I swear the black plastic on the bottom back of the phone is engineered to get "scuffed" the first time you set it down . Other than that I have some lint in the little gap between the screen and the metal rim around the front.
I'm not going to use cases or screen protectors so all of this can be expected, just wondering how everyone else's is holding up? Any drops yet?

Wow, then I'm guessing we should all come back to this post in a month because you're proably our best durablity test example.
I HIGHLY recoomend a silicon case; protects the phone greatly, and makes it more sturdy to hold!
I got a complete package when I bought my GS2 for 5 euro.. A white and black silicon case, car charger and screen protector. Even though it isnt beautiful, I always keep my GS2 protected by a case
holding out for invisible shield now...
Absolutely fine for me, no marks whatsoever, no slow down of the software.
Have got a little dust around the edges between the edge and the screen.
i never use cases or screen protectors wether in mint or sh*t condition after 1 year who cares its time to upgrade.
sold my SGS after one year for AUD$350 and i never used a case or anything. (hopping to do the same next year with my SGS ii
Don't have any scratches or scuffs on it yet, but that's pure luck...I've managed to drop it twice and both times it landed on something soft. I love the phone but holding it can be a little awkward at times, it's angular shape and width does mean that I often have to shift my hands to accommodate it.
For that reason, I've put on a screen protector and I'm now waiting for an SGP Ultra Capsule Case to arrive. I'm hoping that will make it a bit more 'grippy' and less likely to slip out of my hands. My biggest concern is the camera lens, it seems terribly exposed there on the back of the device and it feels like I could damage it just by putting it down a bit too strongly.
Dropped mine 12 days ago. A juggle managed to launch it to a height of 5ft and then it landed totally flat screen down onto concrete with small stones on it. Shattered glass and non-working LCD.
Still waiting for Samsung to supply a replacement.

.... .. my condolences. Something like that is the only reason I sometimes fantasize about getting a case.
The dust between the screen, how do we get it out? wet qtip?
I got 1 tiny scratch on the bezel around the headphone jack. It happen the second day I had the phone. I've lost hope in the couple screen protectors I've ordered. I just ordered a zagg full body protector. I've got an a official samsung case coming now.
But I have never heavily damaged a phone besides my hd2. I'm like 48 out of 50 in keeping phones in great condition while not using a consistent case.
I truly hate the silver cheap bezel on all phones. Usually the only thing I tend to scratch.

Mine has a slightly weird hardware quirk since I first got it - the chrome border around the glass is slightly raised above the glass on right, but slightly below the glass on the left. It's like the glass is a bit angled / tilted up on the left.
Anyone else have this?
Nope mine is fine.
No scratches, have been using it for a month. I always put it on a cloth on my desk when I'm at home.
The dust between the glass and the plastic border annoys the **** out of me. I try to scrape it out with a needle, but they're too thick.

To remove the dust between the screen and the border all you need is compressed air. I was trying to get it out tonight by using my fingernail through a microfiber cloth to no effect. I pulled out my compressed air and that got it all out instantly.
On another note, I'm using the official Galaxy S II case until my Invisible Shield arrives in the next couple of days, hoping to convert totally to that and not have to use a case.
Can't you remove the dust in there with a can of compressed air and one of those straw attachments? Actually I might go out and buy one.
I definitely agree with the raised bottom on the back of the phone; mine's scuffed quite heavily although the front of the phone is fine, and IMO that's all that matters. A phone's meant to be used and it'll get scratches and whatnot over time.
I've got a feeling i'll be replacing this further down the track anyway since most of my phones don't look too healthy after the 18 month mark. Also have full insurance/warranty cover...if I happen to lose it they'll issue me a new one. Gotta love Korean telcos.

Just curious as to how many people use a screen protector on their TF. If you don't, how's your screen holding up?

I have dogs that like to jump on beds, so I use one just in case. Also I use one so I don't fret about my glass being dirty or when a girl with rings on is playing with it, I will always know I have a perfect glass behind the screen protector. Sadly my screen underneath has funky **** going on like light bleed and a discolored spot

I don't have a screen protector, but I am looking into getting one.
I have a very tiny dot on the border of the glass which I don't like much, just in case.
But the problem is how to apply a screen protector!! on my HD2 with its 4.3" display I had too much difficulty to put a screen protector without leaving dust underneath it, on a 10" display it is impossible....

Biggest tip I can give is to apply the screen protector in the bathroom after running a hot shower to get the steam in the room to make the dust die down. Also, the bit of added moisture in the air helps to let you slide the screen protector around a bit before letting it become settled.

I use clear tape to get dirt out from underneath. But yes bathroom helps although I don't make it steamy. The biggest problem I ran into was aligning the whole thing. One corner would always be off just a tad. I ended up trimming it a bit and I can't even tell.

I use a screen protector on my TF101 mainly because it reduces glare and the fingerprints come off easier and it feels smoother that the regular gorilla glass
My tf101 was a best buy display model. It didn't have a screen protector then and it doesn't have one now. I sell saltwater livestock for a living and I'm a mechanic on the side, so it frequently comes in contact with dirt, grease, and saltwater. Not a scratch on the screen. I use a targus case to protect the screen when its not in use.
Regarding putting a screen protector on. Its just like window tint fellas. Clean screen as best you can. Mix some hand soap and tap water in a spray bottle. Spray screen protector and device and apply screen protector. Now spray front side of screen protector. Use a credit card or rubber squeegee to squeegee the water out from under the protector. As the water comes out it will drag the dust with it. Keep a towel on hand to dry the device as the water runs out. You might see a little water left under the protector after squeegeeing but it will dry completely over the next few days so don't worry about it.

its just too bad that SGP has no longevity... and by that I mean I can still get a martian fields and skinomi products for my old Touch Pro 2 but cant get a screen protector for either OR my TF101 through SGP/Steinheil...
When it comes to screen protectors for me its SGP/Steinheil then Martian Fields (then pretty much anyone else), but like I said, 8-12 Months later they drop it completely... so unless you stock up on them, be prepared to be screwed to find a different brand if you have an issue (I had my nephew destroy one of mine... And...you'd be wrong. All those things he did most likely wouldn't scratch regular glass. For the most part keys and coins aren't hard enough. What will scratch glass, gorilla or not, is sand. Sand and grit is everythere. If your hands are dirty its there. It there's lint in your pockets its there. That's the enemy of screens.

Had the transformer since it was first released. After a few months of ownership i tried the SGP ultra fine matte protector as the insane glare was starting to bother me. Had that on for a few months during which the screen nor the protector took any damage as i keep it docked when its not in use. Took it off 3 months ago and since then i've gotten one hairline scratch thats about a cm long, not noticeable unless you knew where it was.
I would say if you keep the thing docked and take care when cleaning the screen its not necessary to have a screen protector. However if you don't use a dock and the tablet is constantly exposed to any number of things that can scratch it, or you're not in the habit of taking good care of your gadgets then a screen protector might not be a bad idea.
Every time i see one of those glass scratch demos i facepalm as i've had quite a few devices that were supposed to be "scratch proof" get scratched by the most mundane things. Its all about angle, material, and force. I can slice a screen and not get a scratch but angle it a bit and give it more pressure and I bet i can get these screens to scratch pretty easily.
Scratch resistance is awesome in the lab, but in the real world there are just too many variables to be absolutely sure.

I've used ZAGG a few times, once on my zune, once on my evo and again on my evo LTE. The original ZAGG product is one of those soft wet apply films that are a bit grippy compared to a hard plastic film protector. I hated it for my zune and i hated it for my evo because of the grippiness as well as the slight orange peel effect. Over time the zune's wore down enough so that it was smooth and had no orange peel, but that took about a year and only in the spots you swipe around to change tracks and volume. Same thing happened with my evo.
On the Evo LTE I was tempted to try zagg HD, which actually was much better than the original film in that it was a lot more clear and had less grip, but alas it was still a soft wet apply film and i just couldn't get used to it.
If you like the grippy texture then the zagg and similiar soft films last longer than the hard plastics. It seems like a love it or hate it situation for a lot of people, myself included.
I will always go with the hard plastic dry install as those are in my opinion easier to apply because you can hover over the screen and slowly lower it as opposed to sliding it around on liquid and then have to squeegee it all out later. Even if i have to replace it once every few months as opposed to once a year for the zagg, i will still stick with the hard plastics.
Hi All,
A tale of warning/caution...
Last night my Razr Maxx fell off of my lap and onto the wooden floor. Literally a fall of less than 2 feet. Even though I have a case on it, the screen cracked all the way down the middle.
This seems awfully fragile for "gorilla" glass. Anyone else with an issue? Manufacturer defect?

There are many, many complaints of this. Not unusual story at all.
Gorilla glass is still glass. When impact comes from the side or corner, it will still break. This is why some of us drop the phone and it's ok, because it depends on the angle where it's dropped.
For those who paid attention in school, you know that when things are hard, they are brittle.
Gorilla Glass is great the problem is because of the increased strength the manufacturers feel they can use thinner glass and end up making it to thin.
Also thats not much of a case, is it soft or hard plastic?
I think the main purpose of gorilla glass is to prevent scratches. The hardened glass is still going to shatter if dropped...
Also looks like you're case only covers the sides. It appears (correct me if i'm wrong) that the corners of you're phone are exposed, and that the screen has almost no coverage. Good looking case but if it doesn't keep the phone safer...
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
My experience is different - I dropped my razr twice and I feel very lucky
The first time it felt of my desk on the tiled floor screen down and not even a scratch
the second was from my chest pocket on the cement pavement - got two tiny scrathes on the botom left of the screen.
My HD2 has a Gglass too and cracked on the first fall. I had better luck after the replacement...
Dropped my Razr from 4 feet up onto concrete, corner hit first, then flipped a couple of times.
No damage.
It depends on the case.
Looks like the good ole TPU case. As others have stated nothing is perfect and imo no matter what case sometimes shiznit happens.
That being said and being the clumsy person i am i have dropped my razr various times in my otterbox commuter and haven't had a problem.
People seem to forget that the most notoriously fragile phone on earth (hint: it's slightly fruity and has a 4 in the name) is made from Gorilla Glass on two sides. It's still glass.
I keep the pictures from these threads to show people who think I'm crazy for using an OtterBox. Haven't had to replace a phone since i started using them.

otterbox ftw!!!
Monkey glass my walnuts
I was also very disappointed with the promises of gorilla glass. it seems to shatter, chips, and scratches just a little less than regular glass. manufacturers also seem to be using very thin pieces for the digitizers.
I think that monkey glass is a brand recognition like pyrex is to borosilicate. you don't buy borosilicate bowls, you buy pyrex.
Manufactures probably pay a steep tax to incorporate monkey glass in their products. To cut costs they might be using thinner layers than appropriate.
Just go to alibaba.com or dhgate.com and buy a tempered glass digitizer for like 20 to 30 dollars. Heck, buy two for good measure and to save on shipping.

Just a soft case, but it does cover the sides (see picture). As mentioned, my guess is because of the angle (right on the bottom left corner).
Some one here recommended the Otterbox Commuter. Is that the consensus on the case with which to go?
Thanks for the input!
Yes gorilla glass is strong but not bullet proof like the Kevlar back "hint of sarcasm"
People have already mentioned about manufacturing and size is one of the issues.
Corning are going to push v2 soon it'll be double strength but half thickness ;-)
Screen protector and a camping pouch for cycling down top all's good.

I've got the commuter case, it looks great, can't speak to protection factor as I have been fortunate enough to have not dropped it YET, every other touchscreen device I've owned has been dropped atleast once but in recent years I have gotten better at not dropping (after losing a 400 dollar archos 5 to a fall in the gravel driveway).
My brother got the defender case and within the first week it got snagged and pulled off and in his words went across the room, and here we are some 3 months later and its still working great, if your crazy worried about the screen, and your one of those guys that like belt clips (I don't) go with the defender as the phone can be placed in the belt clip screen in creating a full "shell" around the phone.
Also that 4 mentioned above with gorilla on both sides, LOL, has notoriously thin sheets of gorilla glass, which is why they break so easy.

This. Yes. This is still glass. Now, if they could make Gorilla Plexiglass, then you might have a semi dropproof phone.
I couldn't stop laughing when I opened the envelope from china. Looks a little thick. I hope its not Plexiglas or acrylic. Either way I suppose my phone is ready for anything with this protector. I'm just guessing they're overreaching a bit on the marketing pitch.

I put on mine 5 minutes ago, I had an anti glare one before, and boy is this smoother than anything I've ever put on a phone... It has an effective oleophobic coating so you barely see any fingerprint, and touchscreen works fine, no issues at all.
It is actually pretty thick, but I guess it adds no more than 10 grams so I don't really care, I have a basic gel back cover and you can barely see it even if it's considerably smaller than the screen (talking about 1.5mm all around), and even though the holes for sensors and led are REALLY holes, you can literally fill them with water (I'm joking, but I will try and let you know... ).
Only problem with these protectors is you have to get it on on 1 max 2 moves, because replacing it is a real pain in the arse. Because is thicker and heavier and stiffer than any other screen protector, you can't simply put a piece of magic tape on the corner and peel it off, you have to do it with a nail or something like a guitar pick or it doesn't come off. Hence the difficulty if you happen to leave a freaking dust particle under it (usually at the center of the screen, where you see it EVERY SINGLE TIME you take a glance at your device).
Lastly, big bubbles are non existing, instead there are a million of infinitesimal bubbles that go away with hard work with a squeegee, or the producer claims they go away by themselves in the next few days.
Overall, if the bubbles really do go away in the next few days, I'll be really happy with my purchase.
Will keep you posted anyway.
P. S. If you're wondering, yeah, pen and pencils work just fine, I'd say better, since you don't have to worry about the screen (or screen protector) getting scratched...

I spent way too much on my Armorz glass screen protector, but it fits perfectly and is really thin. good quality and feels like iphone screen. sturdy and slick. some finger printing but wipes off with ease. no problems with adhering except for the corner where I kinda messed it up. not super noticeable but still upsetting given the price. -__-

Quick update: I ditched the glas.t protector and have gone back to a simple anti glare one, branded Nillkin this time.
I hate the foggy effect on whites, but I love having no fingerprints at all, not having to clean it every two seconds, and not having to deal with several points where the micro bubbles never went away.
Furthermore, I found a slice on the glass protector that seems to have the coating worn off (it came that way, I just realised it was there the day after I put it on), and that slice is prone to be the dirtiest on the whole surface.
I tried to wash it with soap, dish soap, alcohol, nothing works.
I took it off and put it on so many times (after the first time there were always one or two micro dust particles that managed to get under there, and you often you only see them in full sunlight) that the lower right corner would bend a little so that it didn't stick as well as before.
Add to that the WEIGHT of the thing (about 45 grams) and the added .4mm (seems nothing, but they're A LOT on a 6.5mm thin device), I eventually took it off and replaced it and will stay with my plain screen protectors for the entire device life.

Yeah after just a few hours I decided to remove the glass protector. It just doesn't stick to the corners and edges properly. And the screen feels a bit unresponsive. I just replaced it with a regular matte protector I have as a backup and it feels so much better. Sigh. I wasted 50 bucks in that glass protector. Sometimes I feel like I made a bad decision getting the XZU having to think of all this protection crap. I never ever needed to put anything on my other devices before and those are still looking fine.

yea i have had to remove mine also, it made fps games unplayable because the glass made the screen unresponsive to multi-touch use it was very annoying. i recommend just sticking with regular screen protectors for this device.

Unless you remove the anti shatter and don't use two layers of screen protectors...

Since owners have had the phone a for a bit longer now, I would like some feedback on those screen protector choices you have made.
Basically what I want is the common things:
*As invisible as possible.
*Smooth feeling to the touch is preferred.
*easy to apply is a plus
*I prefer to not remove the sony one already there.
So I was looking at M.glass, other ebay glass ones and then my usual choices like Zagg HD the case friendly version for the plasticky ones.
So what is working out for you guys?
I bought one off of ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/261323055474?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649. It feels nice when you put it on. I got something stuck under it though so if you are installing one make sure your phone is perfectly clean. I like the feel of it better than the normal screen. It was hard to install well for me but probably not as hard as I made it out to be. I had it perfect but removed it to get the thing from under it out and that is where things went wrong.
Thats my problem too when installing myself..always some dust gets in somehow. I am thinking on trying to install inside the bath tub or something after running the how water for like 10 minutes to see if that helps...seriously lol

i have the Armorz Stealth Extreme R on mine. a bit on the pricey side but i love it. I also have one of the ebay ones for the back glass. both were put on over the stock sony screen protectors. on the back piece, i actually soaked the back of the screen with a spray bottle before applying it. It was a pain in the ass pressing out all the bubbles, but it looks flawless after a bit of elbow grease.
I have Glass-M front+back for mine and I absolutely love it. (Removed factory ASF as well). My notes
* It is really smooth. Like freshly made toffee it is so smooth it feels faintly greasy (but it is not). On an almost completely flat table the phone will slowly slide across the surface by itself due to a slope you can't see (be careful)
* I believe touch sensitivity is improved. Finicky DPI sliders in Paranoid Android setups give me no trouble now - before jumping 239,243,241 when I really want 240 dpi exactly. Pencil also works perfectly as a stylus.
* I believe screen brightness and clarity are improved. Subjective and probably due to removal of the ASF (and its invisible tiny scratches)
* Extra glass makes the phone a bit thicker but also much stiffer and I liked this. I also have a Z1 and I miss how solid that phone felt in my hand. Ultra always felt a bit too flimsy (bendy). I also had to widen the slot on my DK30 (sandpaper glued to a flat stick aka big emory board)
* Getting alignment correct is tricky - glass-M slightly smaller than the phone screen edges. Mine went on crooked but I can live with that.
* No dust or bubbles in mine. Used the shower trick of old school film photographers. Long hot steamy shower will effectively clean the room of even tiny dust particles.
* Removing the ASF is a truly harrowing experience (see the other thread). Halfway through you *will* have an "Oh God what have I done" moment. Still totally worth it.
Hope my ramble helps someone. In summary really happy with the Glass-M. :good:

Haha yeah I took it off and it made it way worse... ended up being a waste of money which has been happening a lot since my phone had been sent back for repair. I have wasted so much money. But yeah I bought another one and got it a couple of days ago but have not opened it. I will install it right when my phone gets back.
So when you guys go dual glass (front and back I mean) do you just carry it without a case? I mean, when I remove mine from the case it just feels SOOOO good to hold, like the case makes it feel not as ergonomic even though you will think is just one flat object

Glass-M Front+Back and I carry mine "au naturel". Four weeks of sliding in and out of pocket + keys, coins, cig. lighter etc with no marring or scratches. Seriously it feels way better in my hand than the factory finish: smoother, bit thicker (2x 0.25mm glass + adhesives is a lot on a 6.5mm phone), and far more solid. Absolutely love its handling after placing the extra glass.
Downsides are metal sides will eventually pick up scratches and dents and also I don't like the proximity sensor cutout: messes with the Sony design and makes it look like everybody else's iPhone/Samsung/whatever with slots cut into the front of the phone. I don't believe the cutout is necessary for that sensor to work. (could be wrong about that)

yup. I carry it without a case now. feels super classy. picked up some weight from the dual glass but I'm not worried about scratching the screen compared to using the phone fresh out of the box.

Ah you guys are going to make me join the nudist colony!
Well I got too many cases already on the way but they will live in the car to be used when required, but for the most part I love the feel of it naked....and we are still talking about phones just before someone locks the thread
Does the glass go all the way to the edges of the phone? Like if I use one of those cases that go just above the screen (if those will even fit which I doubt) will it make the glass come off?
I guess I should just not use a case but gosh I bought a couple of nice ones already LOL

Thats a very nice looking case...I just wish they would have left the charging port open..kind of strange they did not make a cut for that :/
Well, I guess I use it without a case at home and at work right now anyway since with my case it wont fit on the DK30 but still, if I were to use a single cable, that case wouldnt let me charge.

I modified the case to leave opening for magnetic charging port. some use a dremel. I used a razor blade. came out looking how it was supposed to be, but since I got the back glass, I don't use it anymore. lol

yeah maybe I bought cases for decoration now LOL We shall see.
I just thought of one possible issue if I get the Glass-M vs getting a single one for the screen only....I want to get one of those extended batteries case combinations.
So if I get that, I am pretty sure it wont fit with the Glass-M but maybe it will fit if I only get one glass for the front?
I'm getting my glass-m protectors today. I'll post my opinion tomorrow some time
Cool!
I got one of the front glass only protectors from ebay. Still waiting for it to arrive to see if I can deal with it.
I should have gotten the Glass M but I dont feel like modding the DK30 which I will probably have to do anyway

Got my Glass-M protector yesterday put it on this morning. It works great. Its' pretty comparable to the spigen tr I had on my S4 maybe a littler thinner. It includes the front and back glass protectors, rear camera cutout was perfect. The front appears to cover the camera. There is a cutout for something to the left of the camera but I'm not really sure why. Maybe I am misunderstanding the layout? Luckily it laid down well enough that its not causing any distortiong.
It actually feels nicer and seems more fingerprint resistant than the stock bare screen with its ASF film. It's an expensive kit but considering both front and rear protectors are glass it seems like its worth the money to me.
Shipping was also really fast considering it came from hong kong....about 5 days.
So I ended up trying this glass one:
Protector
The feeling and quality of the image is so pristine compared to my previous regular plastic like protector!
I did have to sand paper the DK30 a bit to make it fit but all is good. I still can use all my cases if needed and I left the plastic protector for the back part.
So overall, I think I will keep this one because with the dual Glass M ones, I dont think my cases will work nor the Charging case combo I want.
With the size of this phone and the Explosion proof glass...I feel like Captain America now
Just got it in the mail today. Install went smooth very simple to install. Glass it's thin but works great with my tpu case.
Came with alcohol pad
Fiber cloth
Hard card for bubbles
And glass
Feels like I have nothing on my phone, and so far I don't have any trouble with the screen recognizing my touch. And no problems with my tpu case with it on! Recommended it to anybody who can get their hands on it!

Pics as promise!
I got the same one, I can hardly tell there is a screen protector on the phone at all.

It really is. It's like I'm running the phone naked. The only time I'm reminded of it is when I go caseless.
Really? I have this and am not impressed at all. Yes it feels nice. Yes it installed very easily with no bubbles. What bothers me is the fit and without radii edges. It's very visible white edges. It's not even close to the edge of the glass and it doesn't cover the camera, LED, and light sensors. Replacements are on the way...
Yes maybe you got a bad batch. But I don't have any problems with rough edges. Mine doesn't fit all the way to edge but very very close but I like that it's like this because of my tpu case I didn't want it to rub up against it to lift it allowing dust in between the protector.
Which could be how they made it in the first place who knows!
Also yes the camera led and speaker aren't covered but it's so close to it that I don't see this area being scratched unless you are running without a case.

Yep, probably the very reason it doesn't fit the screen well.
I'm running a Spigen Slim Armor case, The cases bezel around the screen just covers the plastic edge of the phone, not the glass, which I like very much. I'm not a fan when a case covers glass because it can interfere with trying to select certain things on the screen. So it is more apparent when a screen protector doesn't quite go to the edge of the glass. The white edges and die cut around the camera, LED, and sensors make it that much worse too, unfortunately.
See mine was cut longer on the sides and the bottom so the only gap I have is the top part where they intentionally left uncovered.
Looks to me that there different batches with some weird cuts. You said you getting a replacement from them? Or did you mean you are ordering from a different company?
