Background downloads and processes - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running the 5/29 Imnuts PBJT kernel with comm rom 1.3.
I use an app called tubemate to download YouTube videos.
Lately, I've noticed that if my screen goes off, the phone will throttle back the speed my my download to almost nothing. When I unlock it, it speeds up vastly.
So unless I want to wait for an hour for a 20 Meg download, I have to keep it awake.
Same holds true for ttorrent downloads...
Can anyone explain to me why that happens. Is it normal behavior....is something not set up right....is there a way to give a process higher priority when the screen is off for downloads.....what's the deal? It's really annoying.

Are you on wifi? If so try changing your wifi sleep settings
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

I'm on straight 3g, I don't ever use wifi.

Have you changed any clock speed settings? Maybe your cpu is slowing down when the screen is off?

I'm running the kernel exactly how it comes defaulted.

Problems with streaming nightly latest and glitch

Has anyone had problems. Streaming on nightly cm7 glitch both the latest. Because my phone screen dims super low when I stream
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Streaming as in Netflix or what? Check brightness settings, make sure it is turned up and autobrightness is not on.
No in general lit dims itself
Then the brightness wont work without voodoo
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Also battery charging while phone is off screws up

Streaming what exactly? And try reflashing rom, kernel, etc... kinda hard to understand your problem. You could be streaming a lot of different things.
HBO GO runs fine for me.

Lookout battery drain?

I use lookout.
I only get 1hour of battery. Then it dies. Could lookout be the cause?

No. Does that mean it doesnt?

If your android system usage is high, it may still be the culprit. Try uninstalling lookout and see for yourself.

My battery is very good right now. And has been for the last hour or two.
But I like having the security, so I'm lost. Don't know what to use
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
i dont find it necessary to have a antivirus on an android. as long as your careful about what you download then you should be fine. you could also just get a firewall to use on certain apps or if you have MIUI there is one built in

+1
Read all the review from Market for the apps u want to run. If still paranoid, search on xda first before downloading. No need for Lookout..
I use lookout, I have no issues with battery. I keep data off unless I need it.

In almost every app there is a notification setting and some even let you choose how often it updates
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
yeah but they hardly ever work i have most of them set to the minimum most have 5 minutes or 30 minutes and i still don't see them. could this be a rom issue?

Phone, settings, accounts and synchronize
Turn on both Background data and Auto sync.
Sent from my SGH-I717R using XDA
Do you use juice defender? I will only get my notifications when juice defender connects back to the net. But I do get them soon as that happens..
on sync i have both checked, and no i dont use juice defender any one else have issues with notifications? only thing that seems to be on point is gmail
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
All my notifications are fine. It sounds like you have a bad phone or a bad ROM.
it isn't just this phone my sg2 did the same

XDA App eating battery when running in background?

I've noticed that my XDA app on the Galaxy S3 (ATT) is eating up alot of battery. Ate almost 40 minutes of CPU. One time when I went into task mananger, it showed high CPU usage and I wasn't even using it for a while (so it was idle). I also noticed this with the Engadget app.
Anyone notice anything similar? Just seems like they should be sleeping and not using CPU in the background...
Try reinstalling them. I haven't had this problem with either :/
See attached. My screen has been on about an hour and xda for 50 min.

And this is it just running in the background.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
All I can think of is to reinstall. It shouldn't be doing this obviously
I've uninstalled and reinstalled before those screenshots.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Well no idea then, sorry. You could force stop them when you aren't using them.

i'm having the same issue. att sgs3 completely stock never flashed rooted or odined. my phone also seems to stutter and lag a bit more than i was lead to believe it would but i really only started to notice it after installing xda.
i have been using the xda app quite a bit today but an app doubling the screen in battery drain just seems wrong.
xda app cpu times:
total: 2h30m
foreground: 55m
i'm thinking about flashing the stock firmware odin package....... but i'm also thinking about trading in my blue for a white and i think the obvious lag stutter problem might help me avoid restocking fees.
oh what to do?
so no one else is having this problem? just us two?
I'm having this problem as well. I had 90% when I went to bed. 6 hours or so later when I woke up I had 50% left :/
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I have also been having this problem since my s2. You can see in the task manager its running about 10 pct in the background. Never found a way to stop this apart from manually closing the app in its settings or force close.
I have been having the exact same issue with my XDA app. It just sucks the battery, using 20-35% on average. This is very odd as I have never had a problem with the xda app before. This is an app issue, hopefully they will update this.

Yea I'm having the same issue as well

I had xda premium i while back and then they started pushing update and the app wasnt the same ...so i bought tapatalk..no regret what so ever
Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 2
I also have this problem. I've been manually fcing the app. I assumed it was due to the app trying to serve adds. But I don't really know
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Guys, I've had a little better luck...at least its not killing the CPU total (was above 20% before on idle). I've disabled notifications in the settings and I've also disabled the 2 listeners using AutoRun manager.
Does anyone here who is experiencing xda app battery drain have a rooted device with an ad blocker? I have never had this issue with the xda app and the only thing that has changed other than the phone is not being rooted /ad free. My guess is ads are somehow causing this problem.

[Q] When playing emulators on phone (gameboid, etc.) Or surfing internet phone will s

As the above reads, my phone will shut itself down if I'm playing games or am on the internet. Usually its when I'm on tumblr and have gone waaaay down the pages. I'm running PACman 19.3.0, jellybean 4.1. I'd love to know if there's anything I can do, just short of reflashing to my old CM 9... Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

There could be a lot of things making this happen. It seems to happen more under heavy load as you stated, maybe try another kernel? Are you underclocking/undervolting?
Sent from my GT-i9100 using xda app-developers app
I was thinking it might have something to do with my clock speed. I'm not sure what is a safe speed to move it up to. I'm running at 1100 MHz right now. I think the Max on the scale is 2000. I was also thinking it could be battery related, as the issue does not occur when the phone is charging.
