You could try a new rom like Cyanogen mod 7. It should work. Also use setcpu with it.

2.1? Time for a new ROM! From what I understand Gene's latest ROM supports overclocking, if you want to keep Sense on your phone.

Its dependent on the kernel, not the rom. If the kernel doesn't support higher frequencies then you wont be able to overclock. I'm not aware of any overclock kernels for 2.1 on the aria but somebody else might.
Sent from my cm7 Aria.

Only reason I stay on 2.1 is 2.2/2.3 aren't smooth for me. But isn't it possible to edit the sense kernel to support overclocking?

Yes and this was already done in new roms (Cyanogen mod) based off of an overclockable kernel.

Okay. I need a 2.1 compatible OC kernel. Not CM

There is no reason to stay with 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 are hella smooth on this phone.

Not for me >.> I despise this phone and largely regret getting it honesty.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

This is no phone to regret getting
Try cm7 with my custom kernel, it's very smooth.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

Thats just it. I want a smooth sense, but that's like impossible with this phone.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

I put the Liberated ROM on my gf's phone and it runs nicely, without overclocking. Throw in setCPU and there should be not much that can slow it down.

Ehh. I think ill just go back to an iPhone or maybe stick with getting the Inspire. This phone ruined Android for me.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

Well with that attitude you might aswell get an iPhone, it seems to fit your personality better.
Having said that... normal 2.1 sense without OC is smooth as butter, as is liberated 2.2.2 with and without OC. Or, if sense is what you're complaining about, install CM7 like others have suggested to eliminate it entirely.
I'm sorry you don't like your phone. I always like to try mine out at the store before I buy them.

Well where I got my phone they don't let you try them out. I was just going by what people said on here and else where for my phone choosing.
But the main issue is, I use my phone like a laptop almost. I check xda all the time. I use it for entertainment. I text almost 24/7. I also use it as my only music player, as my mp3 players never last long. But then phone doesn't perform well enough in most or all categories. Iphones kind of do, but I consider them overrated and bland. Even with jailbreak. I like HTC sense because its got enough eye candy, and its very user friendly. I also prefer CM7 as well due to its blazing speeds. But I want to have a phone that suits most of my needs, and I don't know if my thoughts on the inspire are correct or not, but I think it would suit me perfect, as the aria definitely does not.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

You would be better suited to get a phone with a larger screen and armv7 processor. The inspire has both of these although the battery life is not as great out of the box. I would also recommend the Samsung captivate, as it has a super amoled screen but not front facing camera. CM7 has just added support for it as well.
Sent from HTC Aria - CM7 NIGHTLY + Drowning Kernel

Well I don't really need the super quality screen of the captivate, as I'm not a freak on screen quality. But I'm near my charger quite a bit, so bl isn't a giant issue either. My biggest issue is speed and screen size. I have to type in landscape with the aria or I mess up every other word.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

I suggested the Captivate because it has an arguably better screen and can be had for cheaper than the inspire. The inspire will seem awkwardly huge coming from the aria (3.2" vs 4.3"), where as the captivate is still a step up at 4" but easier to handle with one hand. Also with ARMv7 processors you get REAL flash support (10.1+) whereas the Aria (and any other ARMv6 phone) only gets Flash lite 3.1(?) this is a huge caveat for me and will probably be my excuse to upgrade.

Well when I first got the aria, it was because looked down on touchwiz. I wanted a phone I could like out of the box, then root it for more fun. The aria sort of hit that spot, but I think the inspire will hit it out of the park. I really like sense, and thats my main reason for getting a sense phone.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

Well now I'm checking out the atrix. 50$ upgrade refurbished, sounds nice to me. Future proof myself and get rid of blur and well be all good. Right?

Motorola ATRIX 4g roms

I was just trying to get some good suggestions on which rims are good to use with my Motorola ATRIX
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
They are all great and stable. Read through the DEV section and do some research. Find one that suits your needs, then flash away. Just make sure you are unlocked and using the correct recovery. Good luck!
ROMs are like pokemons - you need to try them all yourself.

This is no diss to the developers because I very much appreciate their work!
And I haven't tried all the ROMs
Still, for my suite of apps, for the smoothest and most reliable op of the phone and for the longest battery life..I am back to stock. I have frozen apps, I am running the .97 radio (which has made a huge difference to me in reliability and throughput) but I am stock. Mainly, I had issue with the various incarnations of the Faux kernel and always wound up with lost widgets (I like my widgets I tried all the suggestions and still, at some point I would lose widgets with the kernel. Since this is the basis of most ROMs that did it for me (and it has to be the kernel since I had the problem on the stock ROM with the kernel).
Good luck...it is easy to go back to stock if you don't like the various ROMs.
I intend to try CM7 later on when the Faux kernel and the integration with Setcpu (both cores) is resolved and CM7 has webtop integration (I use the lapdock every day).
I've used a few of the ROM's out there and right now I am on HomeBase version 2 with Faux's latest kernel. I will say that the version of HomeBase is pretty close to stock but it has a bunch of enhancements (zipalign, memory tweaks, etc). My suggestion is to get to flashing and see what suits you. What I like you may hate. CM7 is worth a try as well and I may switch over when it become official (or I may wait for MIUI).
As for the widget issue...fix permissions fixed it for me, hundreds of restarts and I still have my widgets.
You should check out the dev section...good ROM's and good reading!!!

Gonna root my Uncle Thunderbolt

Hey XDA Im going to root my uncle thunderbolt that he just bought. I know all about rooting and unlocking the bootloader. I am a dev for the Inspire. But since this isnt my phone I want to be EXTREMELY careful and not ruin it for him. My question is the best way to unlock and root this phone and what would be a good Sense ROM for him. Thank you.

Revolutionary is the best and most reliable method. Roots and installs clockwork recovery. As for ROMs, I'm partial to Eternity...

Eternity is good, but some phones (like mine) simply refuse to run it smoothly. I love how it looks, but I can't keep it running without multiple lockups where I have to pull the battery. I personally think Thunderstick 2.5.3 is awesome and is the best I have used on my phone, but everybody's is different!

True. Some phones just don't like certain ROMs. See what he likes and see what works.

Since its not your phone and your uncle is probably not too familiar with android I would suggest skyraider 1.3 (or whatever the newest version is when you root it). It is a sense 2.1 rom with a few 3.0 elements and by far the most stable rom I've used. Not on xda though so do a google search.
Miui all the way bro

Question for the thunderbolt community

Hey everyone, I am going to be trading some services (a mechanic is doing my breaks in exchange for me rooting and custom romming his lady's phone) and would like to know what your opinion is on the best thunderbolt ROMs available? She is currently on stock software and hates absolutely everything about her phone and how it behaves.
What would you guys recommend? I'm looking for functionality, reliability, battery life and the smallest amount of software bugs as possible.
Tweaked stock ROMs? AOSP? CM7 or 9? I know nothing about the thunderbolt community and would greatly appreciate any info you can give me.
Thank you everyone

Leaving it on a stock rom unless you plan on maintaining the rom for her..If she has no idea what shes doing then dont cause a headache for yourself, with techs its nothing to change out a rom, or if it gets buggy, well you get the point... the best thing would be a factory reset, or check the memory on the phone she prob has to many apps, install the apps from the sd card to free up the memory cuz im on a stock rom and its way fast, great battery, most of all the battery issues are from apps..just trying to save you a down the road..
I would go to the dev section of this forum and look at the ROMs and see what catches your eyes its opinion over opinion when saying stock is better than custom tons, I myself like custom roms because you can choose a wide variety of tweaks etc etc

LiquidRom 3.2 and use Rom Tool box built in to download pink theme, use built in theme chooser and apply theme, the get a pink keyboard skin and appy. Btw you can customize splash screen and bootanimation to her liking with Rom Tool box too. No bugs for me.

You want no problems use zues.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Definitely a stock based ROM, like Zues. AOSP's battery life isn't as good as Sense (to no fault of the amazing devs of course).
I also suggest Imoyeson's leankernel 5.1.0GB in battsaver mode. Amazing performace with amazing battery life.
I also recommend Zues. ran it for a month straight no problems. only switched roms to see what else is out there
BAMF 1.11 with kernel+++ and turn off task manager at startup. Since I've installed the latest version of BAMF I've had zero fcs, great battery life and good speed. I'm a tech all day long with Windows PC and understand little about behind tor scene android functions. BAMF seems most reliable and low maintenance. Remember every phone responds different to the same os. It's just like gas every kia responds different to bp gas.

any rom would do. there all pretty simple at the moment, nobody has took their rom to the next level for this device.
Many devs are still ROMing for other phones and haven't journeyed to the LTE just yet.
only time will tell. And Ive flash just about all of the roms out now.

I will agree. My daily rom is MeanROM but I've tried them all and I think they're pretty much all the same. Only thing that's separating them are tweaks, they definitely all look the same. From what I hear the VenomRom will be the one that separates itself from the rest, when it gets released.

I had ARHD 6.6.7 previously. It was a stock experience with nothing new. Also my battery was terrible on it. Yesterday I flashed ViperS 1.0.1... And I must say that it's by far the best rom I have every seen and used. It's packed with so much goodies! So much customization options that you'll never get bored. And on top of that, it's also very fast. The venom hub and tweaks app is revolutionary.
So far, the battery is also doing great.

using the AOKP right now. dont really like any of the sense options there are right now. and i like the AOSP lockscreen too much. haha. waiting for that chameleon rom guy above was talking about. hopefully we can get a good CM9 Port going.

nah man, I am just a tester and flasher for my local peeps.
Dude you should try this rom. they've made this rom very light and now i usually have around 175 - 220mb FREE.
just 3 bugs so far.. which i have already reported on day one.
1- Facebook Calender Sync doesn't work.
2- Gallery and Music app fails to load and search files. ( most of the time ) its a pain though :x
3- No Predictive Text in the keyboard. ( you'll have to use the ****ty SwiftKey for that.)
I've flashed Mean rom... All I noticed was 2% drops in battery every few minutes.. And it looked like the same stock ics layout
What's so special about It
We need roms that have boot animations and tweaked batt life roms that tweak the ui something extra ordinary
Stock suits me for now until I see a tricked out rom one that physically just looks different to the eyes

Most stable rom?

I just ordered an Amaze for $250 and I am pretty stocked, coming from the mytouch 4g. I noticed that a lot of the roms appear to not have data working. Is there a complete ics rom you would recommend to flash for the first rom? Also how is stock ics rom?
Sent from my Dark Unicorn Resurrected v.2.5 using xda premium
Stock rooted most stable and is the best rom for this phone imo. ARHD was my favorite deodexed.
If you want mods and a different aosp look.. you can do all that yourself on one of the two above with flashable mods and nova launcher.
Its probably best to read up on all of the ROMs and try them yourself to make your own judgement. This thread will just lead to a few devs shouting out their own roms and their fans following close behind. I know this because this isnt the first time a thread like this has appeared. Im sure u searched before posting though so no worries

For ICS, I'd suggest ARHD (as previously posted). However, for Gingerbread, I'd suggest BulletProof. BulletProof is what I was running prior to migrating to ICS.
Thanks everyone I would definitely flash ARHD first that is after I get a feel for stock rom. I also found the the Amazing guide stickied on the dev section to really nice. I hope to see it explode pretty soon

I tried most if not all ROMs. If you want ICS I say go with NRGs stock Rom with faux new kernel. Been my daily driver for a few months now except the kernel that just dropped. If your gonna be on GB then I also 2nd Bulletproof.
Patiently waiting for some CM9 or 10. Which looks like we'll probably have by August, September.

Whether you use energy with or without stock look, it is the rom I keep going to.. I never have issues with it. I debloat the hell out of it mind you, I don't leave rosie or any other sense feature, but as far as stability, battery, etc is concerned, it is my default rom of choice, and I have tried them all pretty extensively.
If you get the latest build you have to make sure to increase the minimum clock speed to 384 which just requires two little edits in the init.post_boot.sh file in the system/etc directory.
And despite what GG said, even tho I love him(no homo), I am not a fanboy by any means..
I use hd revolution on sensation and amaze. On amaze, it will give you out of box ui but in back processes, lot of optimization were made.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Used ARHD when I had my amaze 4g and never used anything else, that was when it only had GB though, now that I got a GNex, I'm still using ARHD, one of the best Roms out there, no problems whatsoever, stable, and Mike is an all around great guy who puts much care into his Roms. (Not to say that others don't, I've used so many Roms its unbelievable, just like everyone else, and all devs are AWESOME!!!)

My word isn't really needed at this point, but **** it - Android Revolution HD (ARHD), just like the others have said.
Trewyy
Engery Rom is thee best choice
Energy Rom is the best in my opinion. I tried both clean rom and ADRHD or whatever it is call. I like Energy because it is Stable. Battery life to me is awesome, especially when I use my hotspot, Bluetooth and playing Poweramp plus I do play games and etc... Anyways that what I would recommend. Personally choose whatever fits your needs and do not go based off what we say. Remember the most popular rom for the Amaze may not be the best or work for your phone. Not all phones are created the same.
