The funny thing is I don't see a single thread relating to it.
I was looking for info on rooting, installing Clockwork and installing CM7.

Go over to android central. All you need to know to root the Optimus s is there.

I'm sorry, I know I'm in the wrong part of the forums, but my friend just bought an Optimus S on Sprint and I was wondering if the root methods were the same for others in the Optimus series. If so, can anyone link me to a root method guide?
Again, I'm sorry, I've owned a bunch of Android phones but never worked with an LG before. Thanks for anyone's help
FYI, no need to flame, I know I'm probably not where I'm supposed to be.
In terms of rooting, it is exactly the same method with using z4root. You can find it here, and just follow the instructions on the page.

Since the optimus s is just a rip off of the optimus t, does that mean roms will work on both as well?
Just find z4root v1.3 it's the best. google it or download at this forum

Thank you, the prior poster posted the link.
Need roms though, preferably something that's been optimized, deodexed, zipaligned and bloatware removed. The phone is great, but anything to increase speed and performance.
I do appreciate the help, thank you! If ever you need Evo help, PM me!
I tried a few Optimus S roms on my p500, they all failed LOL so unless someone else has attempted to do the same, and has said that it worked, I would highly recommend you to flash Optimus S roms. There are plenty for them here.
So I have a friend who has a droid eris, and i have a galaxy s. He saw what i had done to my phone... Kernel, ROM, and themes and was asking me to do it to his eris. So can anyone point me to a thread or anything to help with rooting, flashing ROMS and anything else? Thanks.
Download Root and Me from the market. It's a guide for rooting etc. I found it very useful
do a little searching on here, you will find everything you need to know about your Eris,

You can find the most important information via links from the Eris Roll-up Thread.
Hi guys, I'm quite new to the android field and own Lg optimus one. To be frank I've got no idea what this-rooting or overclockin or custom kernel or rom is, though i google it everyday!
But now, I want to know what it and how to do it? Please, I need a brief guide for doing it. I want a better gaming experience that's why.
Anyone help me out.
Thanks.
Read the [READ FIRST] thread by The_error in the general section. It is the first or second thread.

You need the following stuff:
1) root (can get it via z4root, SuperOneClick, Gingerbreak)
2) custom recovery (ClockworkMod, AmonRA)
3) custom ROM - froyo or gb based (devoid.franco, void#echo, megatron, CM7 by mik_os, GingerBread by andy)
If you are looking for performance, I'd suggest you to flash devoid.franco, andy's GB or mik_os CM7. Read the feedback from users on each thread and flash the ROM that suits you best.
Instructions how to install different stuff you can get on each developer's thread.

I am new to the forum and I am looking for the easiest way to root my fascinate sch-i500 phone. It has Froyo 2.2.1 currently. Any help is appreciated.
No worries. Use Z4 root, its a one click method which will do what you want rather easily. I posted a link below to a thread which includes the apk file and instructions on how to use it.

If you just want to root, find a one click root app. If you want to flash roms :
One tip: Read the stickies in the Development section. Your better off knowing what your doing instead of blindly following our advice. Sorry if this comes as a bit of a downer, but its for your own good.

^ Yup, he's right...The z4 root apk I posted does work 99.9% of the time without a hitch but sometimes things don't always go as planned and you may end up having to Odin because of it. Like TheSonicEmerald recommended read though the stickies and see what it will take to get your samsung fascinate back up and running again if something were to go wrong. It will save you a lot of time when it does happen, and believe me, if your going to be flashing roms and such things WILL go wrong. This isn't to scare you or anything, it is to assure you if anything goes wrong the forum is here to help. I've learned this one word of advice over my time here and thats, "YOU CAN NEVER BRICK AN ANDROID PHONE."I hope this helped you out a little. Happy modding.
I'm not new to rooting at all, I have rooted several devices. A friend of mine just got a Fascinate and all the info I'm finding seems old and depricated. Will this z4root still work? Is it simple enough for a newb to do? She really just wants root for the wifi tether for root users.
I couldn't agree more. I read a ton of stickies and it paid off big time
Hi folks...
According to reports on this forum, some people seem to have managed rooting their stock 2.3.3 roms.
However, I don't seem to be able to do this
I used the official LG update tool to upgrade to V20C, and it looks like I have a perfectly working Gingerbread installation, but when I try to root (using Gingerbreak, which I thought should work), nothing happens (Gingerbreak keeps running without changing anything).
In the DEV forum FAQ, there is no information about rooting GB roms (yet).
If anyone who successfully did this, would care to comment, I'd be very much obliged
thanks

He cannot do any such thing with stock recovery. ("I used the official LG update tool to upgrade to V20C".) Duh!
@OP: See the recovery howto in my signature.

Either that or do this:
in ADB:
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
then open superoneclick and root (using psneuter).
Thanks, that worked fine. First time I tried I had some problems but I must have done something wrong

Use the EXE installer since obviously you have no clue what you are doing.
crap... didn't see the text file. adb has been moved to platform-tools. sorry
Doktornotor seems to have disappeared (deleted?) and his signature's gone with him also, it's impossible now to search on his username.
Does anyone have a link to the thread where he describes how to root by flashing? I'm probably too stupid to wrap my head around the search function on this site because I really can't find the thread. (by the way I don't think it was the general thread where he tells you how to flash gingerbead)

EDIT: found it! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146566 (3rd post) Maybe Ciaox should mention in his howto-repo that this contains info about rooting stock 2.3.3
