Hi there,
i have been noticing a very strange behavior in my phone these past two days...
my phone is on this firmware I9100XWKE7_CPWKD1_XXKE4 rooted with insecure kernel...
nothing fancy just regular apps
i noticed that when i call or some body called me the mic dosent work at all ...
he cant hear me
switching to speaker ... every thing is fine
rebooting --- no effect
connecting to the charger and then disconnecting the problem is gone -tested once-
Skype testing service ... the same problem the mic only work when in speaker phone
so after this i started thinking it is a software rather than firmware
any ideas ???
encountered the same problem with my gf's lg optimus 7. the mic was defective, there was a short circuit of some kind. had it replaced ( the mic) and everything worked good.
maybe there was some water or some sort of liquid that reached the internals.
nope no liquids ...
this is really annoying this is my 2nd phone the first one had a very loud noise on vibration
gonna do factory reset now
but it appears that when you scream really loud the phone will pick something probably from the noise canceling mic ...
i am out of uk now so going to samsung is not an option right now
so after a factory reset ... it appears that the mic is broken it dose pick very loud sounds though

Hi:
I just got my galaxy s2 today. The only and important problem i found so far is the Speaker ( the one we use for calling not music). I keep hearing the electric noise when i make phone calls. the noise disappear if i use the earphone. So, I am sure that something is wrong with the Speaker........
love this phone so much.
Can somebody help?
Thanks a lot!!!
Return the phone for a refund or exchange, the earpiece speaker is broken.
where was this phone purchased?
I bought it from clove
When I turn the volume down a bit the problem is gone.
It only happens when I turn the volume to max or one step from max.
Is that still mean there is a problem with my s2?
Thanks.

Does anybody know how to solve this?
this problem is still there no matter what.
Thanks.
Might be a dumb question but whatever.
Are you connected to edge/2g? Are you next to a computer/wifi router?

NO I am having 3g or H+ from rogers, Canada.
it mast be something to do with the speaker because If i use the earphone the problem is gone.
is it possible that rooting caused it?
root did not cause it, the issue was probably always there. i really wish more people would reply saying if they do or do not have the issue as well, so we know if its common to all SGS2 units, or you just have a specific defect.
As per request..
No I don't have this problem and have used the speakerphone several times.
No problem with my earpiece speaker or my speakerphone
Not here but I do get the headset issue...though that's another thread..

awesome, there are some data points. max volume doesnt seem to crackle everyone's speaker, so maybe a bad batch is going around.
My SGS2 ear-peace crackles on max volume pretty badly - sounds like something is rattling inside. If I put it one or two notches below max, the crackling stops.
I also purchased from clove and live in Canada.
I had this issue with a nokia years back. I ordered and replaced the speaker and the problem was solved. It could just be that it was not glued-snapped down properly and this causes it to vibrate. real crackling is caused by a distorted diaphragm in the speaker.
Anywho, I also was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

I'm afraid to say I noticed this on my phone today. Turned it down a couple of notches & the crackle could no longer be heard. Far from ideal. Will have to check with clove on next steps, and samsung australia on repair cost if done locally.
Yup same problem here. The local samsung service centre technician says there's nothing wrong with the speaker, I guess he's just lazy to look into it.
I'll send it in again to another samsung service centre to have another look.
no problem with my speakers, but sometimes the earpiece sound does seem too low when receiving calls even if i have it on max volume settings
Have the same problem... Like the earspeaker is distorting and vibrating. It starts just when I call somebody, when ringing.... Tomorrow I will take it to hospital
ok I got back my phone from Samsung Service Centre, after a second persuasion they changed the front panel (whole LCD including the front speaker, not sure if the back speaker too, I don't know the structure of the phone).
And now, it's solved!! NO MORE BUZZING when making/receiving calls!
Definitely go ask for an exchange or a change of your panel guys! It's a HARDWARE ISSUE.

So the phone got a problem after the ICS update, as seen in the video.
Do not know if it has anything to do with the ICS update or something else,
problems are there with stock ICS and stock kernel,
now its running a cKRsH Kernel v3.0 ICS and RealICS 3.1 with the same effect
If entering service menu ( *#*#7378423#*#* ) and run the testprograms for
microphone and speakers, nothing is wrong and they seem to work as they should.
Starts with the person that i´m speaking with hearing itself, and then the acoustic feedback (?) starts and behave as shown.
If opening the USB or 3.5" protector the weird sound stops but the other person is still hearing itself.
If used any kind of headset the problem is gone.
If its on speaker, the problem is gone
If removing the back cover, keeping the waterproof cover the problem is gone
If removing the waterproof cover keeping the back cover, the problem is gone
if both covers are mounted and I lay my fingers on the back, the weird sound stops
but the person i´m speaking with still hear itself, and my voice is barely noticable.
if pushed a little bit the high pitched noise sounds more like a bass sound
Spoke wit Sony support which had no answer and wanted me to send the phone
to them for repair, but due to unlocked bootloader (pinpoint) and rooted, No warranty.
On the utubevid I did get the suggestion flashing another baseband, but that
the guy on Sony I spoke with said would make no difference
I have searched alot, and may be because my mind is missing some english words
that I cannot find anything regarding this issue. What to do?
Problem solved
Hardwareproblem, microphone was too sensitive, replaced
This issue has suddenly appeared. I have tried stock rom (nordic) CM9 and different aosp roms and also different modems, but the problem always returns after half a day or something.
So I can factory reset my phone, make a couple of calls and everythings fine for awhile but then suddenly no one can hear me during calls. I mean there is no sound at all, dont think the mic is turned on. The sound can start to get poor (like im on speaker and far away from the phone) til it doesnt work at all.
I have testet the microphones using voice recorder and taking a video and everything works fine, so i refuse to belive that the mic is faulty. Although its even weirder that the problem still persists after multiple full wipes (format system, cache, data, dalvik) different roms. Probably flashed stock rom with odin 3 times now and the problem is still there. I am now running fully stock non rooted, ive reset the custom binary counter and im ready to send the phone in for repair.
Unless the community can help me out ? any replies are appreciated!
Thanks!
Note that I can still hear the other person but he cant hear me. Switching to speaker and it all works fine ?!?!
What happends when i switch to speaker? does the phone switch microphones aswell? I understand that theres a mic on the top and bottom.

Yes. Regular voice calls use the lower mic, speakerphone uses the top mic. So it sounds like either something is blocking the lower mic, or the lower mic has failed. If you're comfortable opening the phone up yourself, you can try re-seating the rubber housing that is on the lower mic yourself. If not, take it to a service center.
Returned from repair
So guys I received med phone back from repair yesterday and the following parts have been replaced:
Module-RCV+MOT+MIC+E/Jack FPCB (GT_I9100)
ASSY ETC-SUB FPCB (GT_I9100)
And guess what, the problem still persists, my first phone call worked fine, but then the second call failed just like before?!?!!?
Is it possible that there is another hardware fault thats causing this?

Bump..... anyone???
Hmm. Maybe the rubber housing on the mic slipped after the first call, and is now blocking the mic. Or the part failed again. Or did you maybe put a case on the phone after the first call?
I have CM9 for a day now. In the middle of a call, the earpiece started making noises, when the persons speaks. Like when the volume is too high, but it actually isn't.
Could that be a ROM problem, or is it a hardware problem?
Sounds like a hardware problem more than anything mate Either earphone or the phone itself. But just to be sure, flash back a Stock Rom or something and see if the problem persists. That ought to narrow it down
And if problem persists, then its either phone or Earphone so try with a different set of earphones and then, youll know for sure
Hope it helps
Cheers
Flashed CM9 again, and the problem persisted. Now I don't know if it's worth sending it to get fixed.
Did you check it on another rom and also check with another earphone on the same phone ? That would show if its hardware fault or not
It's the earpiece speaker, not the earphone.
my phone was just fine until i did a factory reset on it ,after that whenever i'm on a call on earpiece the mic works just too fine but when i put it on hands free it stops working.........but it doesnt stop completely cause on hands free when i speak from the top portion of the phone while keeping it near my mouth the sound is recieved by another person but it is too low ... i think it is a software problem can anybody tell me how to fix it as it is too annoying.
