I’ve been on this forum for a few weeks now and seen many posts on rooting/s-off etc, and I am confused over the options. (thanks to Globatron and others for their hard work). I was hoping that someone could give me the right reference.
I have the stock View with GB and the OTA update has been staring at me for some time now. I don’t (yet) want to upgrade To HC but I do want to do things like backups, remove Sprint bloatware etc. I understand that I have to root the device to do this. Can anyone point me to the steps necessary to root my stock View? Do I just run the prerequisite steps in Globatrons thread? Which steps specifically?
If I do this, and later decide to update to the OTA HC update, will that brick the View? Do I have to use one of the custom ROMs (and approaches) documented here?
Also, if someone here does a custom ICS ROM for the View, could we go from GB direct, or would we have to go GB > HC > ICS?
Thx for your help.
This thread does not belong in development. It belongs in the general section. The development forum is for just that threads that are about development (roms, kernels, recoveries, tools) and not for general how to questions or questions on how to root.

Flash player not support my device.. help pls.
Before the thread gets moved to Q&A since it doesn't belong in Development...
I can only guess based on the lack of information, but it sounds like your version of the firmware is too old to support Flash 11.1. With that said, no one is going to be able to help you for certain unless we know what firmware you're running. You can find that in Settings. Post it and then you'll get more than guesses.
I updated today. after not working. appliance as he says does not support this item.
You still haven't told us what you're running on your Streak. For example, I'm running DSC 0.73 at the default DPI (dot per inch) of 160. I upgraded to Flash 11.1 earlier this week without issues. So again, no one is going to be able to give you more than guesses unless you tell us what you're running, simply so we can eliminate some possibilities.

Moving to Q&A
Hi Guys,
Just got an s3 GT-I900T moving from a HTC Desire HD.
Few questions in regards to rooting as I rooted my DHD which was rather easy.
My questions are
1. Firmware v Rom - What's the difference and do I need to flash both or..?
2. Anything you would recommend I should know that is different in the rooting process for the device?
Accessories related questions
1. I've tried finding it, but how much thicker does using the Hyperion 4200mAH make the phone, from photo's it looks to make it roughly double the size?
2. For the Hyperion 2200mAH - How more time does it bring the battery to, eg from a day to a day and a half or?
Sorry if my questions seem stupid.. they do seem a little stupid to me, but I did try searching - possibly I'm just terribly at seaching for things

1. Not sure if there is really a big difference. Firmware for me is a rom, custom roms are also roms/firmwares in a way
2. Read the Stickies in the General thread, it will help you to get behind the rooting process.
ps: I guess you meant GT-I9300T not GT-I900T

Yes I did mean that..
In regards to 1 - Cool, I was hoping they were the same, hence the stupid question part, thanks Chrismast.
2 - Good call, missed the sticky that actually mattered - Saw it as the following;

I have personally moved away from permanent custom recoveries, and I am no longer supporting them. On newer devices they cause flash counter and OTA flashing issues. If you really want one, others do provide versions of CWM and TWRP for most devices. Personally I just use Mobile ODIN to install ZIPs and Titanium Backup for my backup/restore needs. I do always want root though, and as such I'm still supporting CF-Auto-Root as quick way to root."
Originally I was going to install CWM, but yeah, what's the best way to go about this?

yes, you can use CF-Auto-Root whereas I did not use it as it was not available (?) that time, but I am sure there is a guide in that thread. Otherwise you could use CF-Root 6.4. Make sure you have the international I9300/T version though! Also a good start to read is here. For backups, once you installed CWM you will be able to do a nandroid backup. In addition backup your EFS folder and copy it to your computer, instructions here. I hope it helps!
I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100M from Bell Running Latest Stock 4.1.2
I have successfully rooted.. I need help with what CWM Recovery to use and how do I find Liquid Smooth for this phone.. Contact me asap

Exactly. What you need to do is some searching/reading & learning on your own.
Reported post for user not searching/reading and wanting to be spoon fed.
Rule #1 is to use the Search function.
This phone is not new by any means, so that answers are all out there. Just look in the General, Q&A and Development Stickies and the answers you will find.

Is the guide I'm talking about. I have a GT-i9100 running CyanogenMod 10.2
No idea given it's on another site (not even going to look at it). Thread stickied near the top of Q&A has all the info you need (plus other guides/tutorials stickied near top of General), which may/may not be the same info as the guide you linked to.

I'll take a look at that, but if the answer is really simple you might be able to answer here? As said I'm on cyanogen 10.2, would it be safe to use odin v1.85 to flash a stock 4.0.4 ROM?
Do not flash stock 4.0.4. Whilst stock 4.0.4 on its own isn't a problem, if you root it & end up doing a factory reset, you'll brick your phone. Flash another stock rom based on a different Android version. Re: which version of Odin to use, etc, read the guide. The whole point of having these stickied threads is to not have to answer basic/repetitive questions. It's all there, it's all very simple.
