CPU Smartass Governor?!! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there a kernel for the 2.2.1 froyo that supports the "Smartass" governor, such as the one found in CM7?

there's a smartass governor in CM7? where???

Haha nice one, smartass! ^

i think (not sure) that all cm7 kernels support the "smartass" governor.. but i'm looking for a froyo kernel for "stock/based on stock" roms that support smartass..
i come from a HTC android culture, where the smartass governor was widely available/used.. and i have to say it beats all the others in terms of usability (speed and responsiveness) over other governors like interactive, ondemand, and conservative..
so it would be great if such a kernel exists...
if anyone knows something about this, please do share your thoughts..

1.Google for android governors
2.read info on them
3.check which one suits you
4.Apply
governor is personal choice thats why you have options

1. Governors are dependent on kernels, not ROMs. Here is a short, but solid explanation about the most famous governors:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843406
2. I'm using the interactiveX and smartass governors (I switch frequently).
As explained above, the best for performance has to be the performance governor. But it's also the lousiest for battery life (sometimes 50% or more decrease compared to other governors).

thank to you both...you got a thanks button sori that i didn't google it it's ondemand now...looks like a good governer...and smartass too...

ROM that doesn't lag or lock up: Suggestions?

Every ROM I've tried on T959 (Vibrant) seems to lag or lock up.
What are the best ROM's that won't lag or lock up my phone?

O-o that's very odd...which roms have you used exactly? Have you stayed mostly with froyo roms? GB roms or ICS?
Also- what kind of settings do you use? Governors and schedulers? frequencies? Do you OC or UV? Etc. Etc.

I've stayed mostly with the ICS roms.
No governors/schedulers whatever...nothing else on top of the ROM.
ICZen with sub-Zero's kernel was always my favorite ICS build, but you're going to have to accept some kinks when you're running ROM that's been ported over for a device that had official support stop at 2.2. Just be sure to pick a ROM that has some active development. And despite how good a lot of the ICS ROMs are for the Vibrant I don't know if the hardware is going to give you a completely lag-free experience 100% of the time; especially with multitasking (at least from my experience).
You can try to address the lag by changing your CPU Governor to something like ondemand or scary since those will ramp up the CPU clocks to your max frequency the fastest. Smartass and smartass v2 try to balance performance vs battery and were the usual defaults from when I was testing ICZen, but I always found it better to just go for broke since I'm just looking for a full 18 hours off a charge.
Another thing to try is tinkering with the number of apps the system will keep in memory. Try setting it low (3 or 4) if you're experiencing unusual lag.

Well, no matter what...your rom is going to have a certain scheduler and governor set...same with cpu frequencies.
If you haven't changed them at all, then you are running on the default that the rom creator set it to...or if you flashed another kernel on top of the rom, then you are running the kernel creator's default. I'd suggest, the person above me suggested...going with ICzen with subzero or devil...then I would suggest downloading NStools free from the market place and experimenting a little with the governors and schedulers....
some good schedulars are: sio, vr, deadline, or noop
and some good governors are: smartassv2, lulzactive, lagfree (if that's what you're going for)
...personally...to avoid lag and get good battery, I go with a modified conservative governor with a slightly higher max frequency of 1200 normally and 1300 if i'm playing a very taxing game like idk,...dungeon defenders or something.
Now, you'll definitely experience better performance by chancing the governor and max frequency.
For reference go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420742
and to see what I meant when I said that I "modified" the conservative governor to fit my needs...
go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817
If you have any question, just ask! But I really think that your lag will go away once you become more familiar with tweaking the settings to run smooth.
If you are really interested in tweaking your phone a bit more than this however...
you can also try running this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276/
with the free app "script manager" from the market. It's definitely worth it in my opinion.
Good luck!

i'm running FE's CM10 jb preview. disclaimer: it's still in alpha. everything works for me; gps is so-so.
the kernal i have is devil3 1.0.4test3 found here. the governor is set to smartassv2 with min of 200 and max of 1000.
also, animations in developer options settings are set to 0.

[Q] Kernel Governors

I'm curious about these CPU governors: boosted, hybrid, wheatley, and darkside. I've been searching the forums for quite a while now with no avail. Can someone kindly explain to me how these work, or post a link to a thread with explanations of the said governors? Help will be very much appreciated.

All the weird named governors are ["optimised"/"tweaked"/"smoothed"/"funky awesome marketing english words" ] governors based on Interactive/Ondemand/Conservative governors ....
So just think of them as pre tuned conservative/interactive/ondemand governors ...

Thanks, man. I guess I'll just try each of them. Darkside sounds like a performance-oriented governor based on Interactive, though.

Good to go. As far as I know, pretty much all of them do by default these days.
Woo hoo! First custom kernel! Thanks for this. I would like to see sound mods(equalizer, bass boost, general headphone + speaker amplification) as well as LED mods(brightness, fade, etc) brought to the device via kernel. But thanks again for the early work. Will flash tonight!

LulzactiveQ govenor
Man that was fast. This is exactly what I was waiting for. Will be testing this tonight. Coming from a note 2 and my favorite Governor was lulzactiveQ, is there any technically reason why that governor would not work with this kernel. I know its a derivative of Samsung PegasusQ and could be specific to their framework. If it's possible. I would love to make that a feature request. If not, I just appreciate the hard work your devs are doing.

The original thread is T-Mobile and it was their source that was published to coincide with release of the device.
The kernel, on the other hand, uses the included spr configuration with the NIE ramdisk (Both Sprint).
Haters welcome, too

It should work, but it'll need to be rewritten. I'll try to find a copy that works as a base.

Samsung has a knack for unified source. They did it on the Galaxy Camera and that one was vzw, AT&T, or WiFi only. At least these are all relatively similar.
Booted up, everything good so far.

I was having a hiccup getting all configured. It's one thing to build a few kernels separately, but it turns into a circus building 5 simultaneously.

Damn .. That's a lot. But again thank you . its working good.
Anything and everything that's in Ktoonez's kernels (been using his for years for of my Galaxy S devices but now I decided to go with the note) ;P
But generally want to see cfq, bfq, sio, noop, row, for I/O schedulers and zen, intellidemand, smartassv2, ktoonservative (if that's possible of course, not sure if that is exclusively available for his kernels).
And of course OC and UV for the CPU and GPU as well as governor support for GPU. Changing the TCP protocol would be cool because I've had a lot of good fortune changing it to "lp" from westwood.
P.S. Not demanding features or an ETA of course, just getting somethings out there I would love to have haha! Thanks for bringing this over to Sprint.

cfq, noop, and row are included by default
sio and zen were added
intellidemand has been attempted but it didn't work at first. Now that a lot of other stuff has been sorted out, this may be revisited.
OC and UV are already a work in progress
GPU has about 5 governors included by default
TCP is already covered.

Edit: pegasusQ and smartassV2 are being tested. smartassV2 is going to need a HUUUGE rewrite eventually
Any plans on faux sound support?
