Widgets for ROMs that use Home Replacement apps - Droid Eris General

Home Replacement apps basically throw HTC widgets out the window, which sucks but i found an app to fix this Beautiful Widgets is one way, it is basically a HTC widget replacement but I also just found a post on this site about widgets too that was extremely helpful in getting the widgets I wanted to replace HTC, here it is.

[App req] rosie replacement app. Is it possible?

Many of us like to use home replacement apps to have more customization. But many of us whom are htc fanboys don't wanna let go of our sense widgets. They do make sense after all. So with the advent of these popup dock apps being on the market like dock4droid i thought hmmm maybe there can be a Rosie dock app that can be created as an overlay to the stock htc Rosie dock! Something that is themeable and looks just like the sense Rosie dock except that it has more app shortcuts embedded on it. Say like 3-5 app shortcuts that can revolve like the android rotary lockscreen that scrolls through different user defined shortcuts like launcher pro/ go launcher. That way we can keep our amazing goodness that sense 2.1 has to offer but having the convenience of using more shortcuts on the dock that home replacements offer. Has anyone else thought of this? And should this have been in the android general forum for more visibility? I'm not a developer btw. Just an enthusiast. Whaddayall think?

Sounds like a nice idea for those sense-lovers. As for me, I don't much care for sense or the widgets, but would be willing to give this a try.
I originally thought sense was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen back in 1.5. After the step up to 2.0 I perfered the look of AOSP with other adjustments. I absolutely hate the dialer, contacts, and several other aspects of sense though. I would do anything to get it removed from my phone completely. I will rejoice to the heavens once CM7 is ported over to this wonderful piece of hardware.
Its funny to me that the way you feel about sense now is the exact same way I feel about aosp. I like the way aosp performs over sense. Feels much lighter and easier on the cpu. But I like the look and the added functionality that htc brings to android on their devices. Perhaps if there would be a wonderfully themed metamorph and some htc themed dialer and contact apps available on the market I'd totally be on aosp. Since there are all these developers out here banking off of htc themed apps ie flip clocks, widgets and home replacements, I don't see why the htc corporation just not turn their famous ui into a highly advanced home replacement app! And/or convert their famous widgets into android widgets for sale on the market. I'd be willing to pay spb 3d shell money for all of that. They can definitely bank off of selling their ui to those that don't buy their devices and to Those who buy their devices, root and flash aosp on their devices. It can be a win/ win situation for them. And btw, they would kill any home replacement app on the market right now if they were to release a home replacement app based on sense3.0!

The most themeable launcher with a doc that I've seen is Go Launcher
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex
Go launcher isn't very sense like though if that matters. It's more like vanilla android or sort of like touchwiz on samsung phones.
With LauncherPro Plus and the theme support of widgets you can pretty much have a sense like ui.
Yea but I'm not talking about an idea for a home replacement appz I'm talking about just a dock replacement app, or dock overlay. Something that is put on top of the default dock to be used with the current rom and can be used alongside the proprietary widgets. Launcher pro is the best home replacement app to mimic sense but sense 2.1 and the upcoming 3.0 has surpassed launcher pro. The developer can updated it to have much of those features but who knows if he will and when he will. A simple dock overlay with a few enhancements can save app storage space and be easier on the cpu. I've noticed when I have more than 3 home replacement apps installed, sense starts to get a bit laggy. It would be nice to be able to still experience sense entirely but with a few added enhancements.

Problem with launchers those widgets are bundled with them on android is they're generally not sharable. App independent ones like pandora don't have that problem, but the launcher ones seem to be be tied into the launchers and wont play nicely. People have ported out or cloned ones from launchers, but I am guessing the actual ones are just too tied to the launcher code to be standalone.
True but the idea I'm talking about is not a home replacement launcher. I'm talking about a dock overlay. Something that can be used with the default launcher, widgets etc. Look up dock4droid on the market. The idea stemmed from that. Specifically what I'd like to see is a replacement Rosie dock that covers the default dock with extra app shortcuts that are scrollable like launcher pros dock.

[Q] CyanogenMod7 - GingerBread NIGHTLY widget issue

I flashed to the rom found on this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944430
... a couple hours ago and love it, the customizations are awesome and I have been so caught up in the new features that i haven't even re-downloaded my apps yet. Great rom so far but i have a small problem.
I cannot use downloaded widgets or HTC widgets, i don't know if its the LauncherPro app or not because i haven't checked because I am unsure if these roms require home replacements to run properly (thats another question of mine, can I turn off ADW or Launcher Pro while running this rom?) but if anyone knows how to use downloaded widgets with this rom i would appreciate it if you could let me know.
Thanks in Advance
I found out that widgets only work if they are installed on internal memory, so if you download widgets or apps that give widgets you must leave them or move them to internal memory or else the widgets will not show up in the home replacement program.

HTC widgets are for Sense based ROMs. They will not work on CM Roms. Widgets that are found in the market can be installed and used though. As far as LauncherPro or ADW... it's all a matter of what works best for you. I personally use ADW EX. Others love LauncherPro. Some also like Go Launcher and Zeam Launcher is also getting more popular from what I hear. Any of those can be installed from the Market and is you go with LauncherPro Plus it has Sense-like widgets that come with it. You have to purchase the plaus version for those widgets though.
I have a lot of free apps and need to go in and "pro" all of them, i used adw for a while and one thing i miss is the uninstall option when you long press an app on the homescreen but launcher pro came native with this rom so im going to leave it and just buy the pro version i think.
I mentioned that this rom does not support HTC widgets because of launcher pro always running, i found a fix. Beautiful widgets is one way, it is basically a HTC widget replacement but i just found a post on this site about widgets too that was extremely helpful in getting the widgets i want, here it is.

[Q] HTC Widgets

Hi I'm comming from an HTC Inspire 4g running HTC sense 3.5 didn't think I'd miss it as much as I do I really miss the widgets like the Message widget and the mail widget I can't seem to find anything like them on the market can anyone suggest somthing?
Wow
Anybody got anything?
As far as I know, the only Sense type widgets you get on the market are clocks. You cannot run the actual sense widgets without sense. Pretty much bad news if you're looking for the message and mail widgets, you have to get an HTC phone.
I would suggest looking for alternatives and forging a new love for something different or even better.
Yeah I see nothing like them on the android market except clocks and weather widgets I don't understand why someone hasn't copied the message widget or email widget I loved having them on my home screens quick and easy to get to

HTC user moves to Samsung

Hi!
I just got my first Galaxy phone after having 4 HTC android phones I must say this thing is amazingly fast!
I have one question though, I do kind of miss some of the HTC widgets. Like the weather widget and the little calendar widget they have that only takes up 1 line on the Home screen. Is there any way to get the HTC widgets onto the Galaxy S III?
I liked these too on my HTC Sensation, unfortunately I couldn't find anything decent yet.
I have a thread in apps and themes subforum and there were some links to ported HTC widgets, but I didn't like any yet
Search play for
Android pro widgets & beautiful widgets.
They are a good start to replacing your HTC widgets
HTC widgets cant be ripped to other android devices because HTC link the widgets to only with with the sence skin.
There are coppys on the Play store. Just not as good
thanks for the replies... I have beautiful widgets and they are so so ;/
Kinda sucks that no one has made replacements...
Edit: for those interested, I found the Simple Calendar widget to be REALLY nice. Replaces the HTC one any day
There is a sense 4.0 clock apk some where in sgs3 apps and theme. Go find it there.

[Q] Desire HD weather. (Weather animation on screen unlock)

Hey guys. I'm the type of person who loves his phone to be like a second home. My friend had an HTC Desire HD and it impressed me so much i actually wanted to but it off him, even though its about 2x worse in specs than my current phone, but it has the most beautiful user interface i've ever seen.
I'm talking about the HTC DHD weather unlock animation.
I first noticed it when i asked the friend to make a call and upon unlocking the phone the screen froze over and it started to snow, it was pretty amazed by how good it looked, and how accurate it was since it was really snowing outside.
Here it is. ( not my video, but exactly the same thing)
HTC Desire HD Weather Animation Snow - YouTube
I think this is one of the best looking widgets/launchers i've ever seen, and i have a question, not as much as a request.
I do know that this is "exclusive" to sense, most likely 3.0, but would it be theoretically possible to rip out the launcher/weather widget you saw in the video?
I am NOT asking for any warez, just some instructions, i feel like i'm dedicated enough to work with this for a few days just to get it.
I'm currently using a SONY Xperia GO , and i would like to port the needed things to it from sense (3.0?) to it. How do i do it?
Maybe someone knows a similar app that does this and looks like it.. But so far i've downloaded 20+ widgets/apps from the play store and didn't find anything ever NEAR as beautiful, or as functional. Most of the apps/widgets require you to click on the widget to see a weather animation, thats not what i want.
TL;DR : How do i port the sense (3.0?) launcher/weather widget? Is there an app that is as functional and looks similar?
Thanks in advance.
It's VERY difficult to port proprietary UI stuff like Sense based things to other devices. So much of Sense is not just based on the apps, but also on the framework-res.apk, systemUI,apk, and another one - htc.resources or something of the sort. Been a bit since I was that deep into HTC stuff. There just aren't going to be any easy or elegant solutions to this. As for a half assed work around, Go Locker claims to have animated weather stuff on the lockscreen in it's free version. Couldn't hurt to check it out? They have TONs of themes, but I find the Go Locker and Launchers to be a bit laggier than some. HTC has started adding some of their apps into the Play Store, including Blinkfeed, but something tells me that there won't really be a way for them to add the lockscreen as a standalone option.
