Is Legend still the best looking smartphone? - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you vote NO then please mention what phone you think IS

HTC is looking to adapt EVERY SINGLE FREAKING SMARTPHONE of theirs with a "premium unibody design". Honestly they must be doing a horrible job (or less likely keeping our legacy alive) because they all seem ugly to me.
I was also being a total **** at Future Shop the other day and went in with very sharp nails. The Desire HD scratched with so much ease, an unbelievable amount of ease, like I'm trying to hug my girlfriend with super sharp nails ease. Packing those same nails,
I headed over to the Wildfire S. Same problem.
The Legend however, stayed alive with very unnoticable scratches using the same rabid scratching force. OMGILUVMYPHONE<3

The look is still one of the best imo, I'll be using it until my contract expires (can upgrade in a year), unless they come out with something that has the same look/feel and more power (like Kal El).

Yes HTC legend is the best looking device.

I never found it a real attractive device (based on pictures) until I won it. I really love the design of the part above this "lump" on the bottom of the device (the part where the trackball is on). In my opinion the "lump" is too big and the trackball worthless, I never use it.

Well, I bought the Legend cuz of the looks. The Desire was basically the same price but the UniBody design got my attention. I don't regret my decision, and I'm still thinking that the Legend is one of the most beautiful smartphones till date.

I disagree with the screen being scratch resistant, ive had mine 2 months and its scratched to hell! my hero i had from the release date on orange uk and it still hasn't got a single scratch on it..In my opinion the Hero looks the best out of them all!

HTC has many beautiful phones, Legend is definately one of the prettiest. The unibody design captured my eye the moment I first saw it!

Maybe you have a different screen because mine only scratched when it slamed on the ground. Only one small scratch and i carry it around in my pocket all the time without a screen protector

How heavy is it really?

Ok, so up until now, i was sure i am going to get the sensation. Then the EVO came out but it was only for the USA people so as much as i wanted it, i couldnt have it... but now that a GSM version has been announced, i am rethinking about which phone to get.
specs wise, the EVO is slightly better. the only thing i am worried about is the weight of the phone.. 170g seems to be quite hefty.
Unfortunately, in my country there are no stores who will be selling the EVO, so i cant just go and feel it in my hand. If i want the phone i will have to order it online from Europe and rely mostly on peoples feedback about it.
So i guess the question is.. is it really that heavy in a way it feels quite uncomfortable to put it in your jeans pocket? All reviews say that the sensation feels thinner and smaller in hand for a 4.3 screen. How is the feeling with the EVO?
Despite the better specs of the EVO, would the sensation be a better choice? please provide honest and unbiased answers for that please as much as possible
Thanks
its not heavy by any means, not the lightest but heavy is kinda over the top. I haven't gotten mine yet but my friend has hers and I held it, it felt average to me. I actually preferred the size and the grip it had.
It's a heavier phone. I love it. This phone is of the highest build quality and, the weight speaks to that fact. HTC didn't skimp on materials.
It feels fine in my pocket. I don't even notice it.

I think they skimped out on the camera button. If you move your phone around to fast it sounds like the button rattles. I've tested this on like 5 different phones so its not just mine...
@op it feels like a gold brick in your pocket don't buy it!

saracsm was not necessary. If i wanted an iphone i would have bought one like the rest of the herd in my country.
Besides, theres nothing wrong with looking at a phone's weight when considering a purchase. If it wasnt important, then reviewers wouldnt have given notes about it when making the review. Its the same thing as judging a phone by its screen size. not everyone feels comfortable with having a phone with a screen size of 4.3
And yes, i am perfectly aware that it is 170g cuz it is made of premium materials and not cheap plastic, but still, the sensation is also made of good materials and yet weighs less

Ok now back to the topic
The sensation has one camera
EVO 3d has 2... Not saying that is where all of The extra weight comes in but take all this the EVO 3d has into consideration before saying there the same and should weigh the same.. witch is what I got out of the last sentence you wrote

I had the EVO 4G and the 3d feels slightly lighter.
I have the 3D and the EVO 4G and it feels sort of the same with one in each hand... I have to admit though, the 3D feels more solid

Heaviness is in the pocket of the beholder.
It is not light. Your tolerance level may be different than mine. Best thing to do is visit a retailer with a working 3VO and feel for yourself.
Oops, sorry. Didn't read completely. It is tolerable for me. You don't want to be running with it in your pocket.
It has some weight to it but you get used to it quickly. I actually kind of like it being so heavy, if you keep it in your front pocket you can feel it there and it helps to remind me not smash it. As for the build quality, I never noticed that about the camera button until I read nate420's post and put it up to my ear to shake it. Otherwise I probably would have never noticed it. The phone itself is solid and the things a beast, but the Sensation definitely does look better. Still it's not as ugly as I thought it would be from looking at pictures. IMO the screen makes up for all of it's flaws though, I wasn't expecting much from it but it actually feels like it's a progression where most companies now are just adding a few more pixels here and there or over saturating the colors so people think it has crazy contrast (S-AMOLED)
With my otter box defender its huge and heavy. Hurts my hand at times lol
Op if possible find an EVO 4g.. the 3d weighs approximately the same, but feels.more streamlined

After having it for nearly a week, I'm over the initial shock of going from the Hero to this bad boy. It's starting to feel smaller and slimmer the more I use it. As for the weight, all I can say is that I have to wear a belt with my loose shorts or I end up looking like a baller showin' off my drawers.

Now just pick up your Hero and wonder how you could've ever used that little thing! (that's what she said)
Remember, it isn't guaranteed that T-Mobile is getting the 3D. Until they announce it, it could easily go to a Canadian carrier.

3vo. That is all that needs be said.
This is what I was going to ask. If anyone had an Otterbox yet.
The phone itself is quite manageable weight wise. It seems lighter then the Evo 4G but maybe that is just my mind playing tricks on me.
And remeber. Because of the 3D ther is a extra screen on top of the regular one so we cab see it in 3D.

I came from a Samsung Epic, and it's quite a bit heavier, but the Epic itself is really light compared to most phones. Personally, I like a heavier phone, it feels more solid.

I think I read that the 4G and 3D are the same weight, but the 3D definitely feels lighter to me. Maybe because the weight is distributed in a different manner, but it it's more comfortable for me to hold(along with being slimmer). The Sensation is definitely lighter though. It even felt much lighter than my gf's Mytouch 4G while we compared it.

I agree that HTC has very good design quality, but keep in mind that the premium build design comes with a cost. Heavy feeling device that not everybody finds comforting to hold and what feels like slight overheating because of the metals used in the design. Every device heats up with use, but because of HTC's choice of materials you feel it more than other devices such as Samsung etc.
With that being said, I do wish Samsung would step up a little bit more as far as design is concerned. Maybe using 95%
plastic with a few aluminum pieces to add a little more character. The Nexus S might be Samsung's worst looking device IMO but I loved it because of how light and easy it was to hold for long periods of time.

I actually did all the research etc too like everyone else, I bought the Amaze on the first day, 2 days ago I returned it and got the SGS2 (blasphemy) and yesterday returned it to get an Amaze again... end of story
SGS was nice, some cool software features, but HTC sense just well makes sense (does everything and minimal need if any for 3rd party widgets or any real need for a 3rd party launcher). Camera compared to the Amaze's camera was sh!t. Kies Air was cool though wish HTC did something like that. battery life was fantastic on the SGS2 though. The Amaze feels just soo much better in hand...
edit: dialer/etc on SGS2 looks generic compared to the polish of all the HTC software.

I understand your point, but I keep/collect phones as a hobby--nary once have I kept a cheap Sammy device. I'd take heavy and solid over plastic and cheap. I bet Sammy only spends $40/phone to manufacture (if even that).
*Keep in mind, that is US adjusted price, not eastern-labor prices.

I need an oven glove to use my Samsung Epic Touch, the phone gets hot to the point that I can smell the heat. This happens sporadically but especially when viewing videos.
I got some hands on the with SGSII last night. My wife's friend bought one from Sprint yesterday. It was a quick phone. I am on my first Android device and since I have the Amaze all I really know is Sense. I found it easy to use and customize but it just felt cheap to me. She loved the fact it was light. For me though it felt like a good firm grip would crack something. I am sure it wouldn't but it just felt fragile. Performance wise it was about like the Amaze. I say total toss up / opinion between the two. I love the Amaze it gets my vote.
Oh and I have had no heat issues as all with my Amaze. My iPhone got warmer...
I had a Samsung Vibrant and hated the GPS on that phone. The SGS2 felt like a Vibrant on steroids. Touchwiz is also kinda boring. The HTC Amaze is awesome! Great build quality and Sense UI is beautiful. Amaze also has higher resolution. Go with the Amaze.

For me battery is important..can you tell me the difference you felt? I don't believe I will be able to go for the SGS2...it is just too wide for me and very difficult to fit it in the pocket..but the battery on the Amaze needs 3rd party softwares to arrive at the end of the day.
I always have Bluetooth on, WiFi or 4g, and sync 2 emails every 15min, Twitter update every 30min.
With normal use for me- txt, phone calls, email, checking twitter, random use of netflix, and checking xda.. I usually jump on a charger in about
6-7hrs at 40-50% maybe. Sgs2 will just about almost double that length of time... Right now I'm at 45% after 6hrs.....

?? - The Galaxy SII for T-Mobile is a dual core clocked at 1.5 gHz.
You know what is really lame? I went to the T-mobile store and since they redesigned the place with laminate flooring and lots of space so it looks more chic they also removed every single working phone available. There was nothing but cases and accessories hanging on the walls and the only two "dummy" phones for the SGS2 and Amaze were hanging out near the entrance. There was literally no other phones, and definitely no real ones besides shells of phones. The T-mobile version of the SGS2 is much better than the ATT SGS2 and Infuse because the black is completely different with a much nicer material and is actually ergonmic since it isn't flat with a sudden hump, but instead tapers with the hump and has some thickness/ergonomics. I could not really tell if the Amaze was a premium handset or not because I could barely hold it with the giant black chastity belt. The black plastic felt nice, but I could barely tell if was metal. Since it was a dummy phone the weight was also all wrong. Well I'll be playing crapsunless I can find a way to get to the Best Buy out of town.
I went with the Amaze simply because I got burnt so bad with the vibrant. Samsung never addressed the faulty GPS and the the all plastic frame just feels cheap. I also used both at the T-mobile store and they are both very nice but the amaze is just elegant. Go with the amaze you won't be disappointed!

Power button paint chipping

Hi One X+ users,
After happily using my good ol' Legend for 2,5 years, I decided to treat myself with the best phone money can buy these days: the HTC One X+. When I buy something new, it's got to meet 99% of my demands. I am willing to pay for "extra quality", but the price/performance ratio is important to me. About that last thing: the mind said NOO when I put the X+ in the virtual shopping cart, but eventually the heart and the wallet said 'hmkay, cut the crap and let's do it'.
So I had very high expectations => Fast forward 3 weeks => I'm very happy with it: it's fast, there's plenty of storage, it feels solid and the thing is still awake when I go to bed (^^).
-> Now here's the thing. A couple of days ago, a piece of paint came off the power putton, something I did not expect to happen on a 3 weeks old 600 euro device.
I wasn't doing anything special at that moment and I treat the thing with lots of care. Having the One S paint chipping debacle fresh in my mind, I thought it might me a good idea to warn you guys (and girls). Maybe I should not complain, but in my opinion this is something that should not happen this soon.
Please reply in this thread when something similar happens to your One X+. Maybe it's just my device..

So far I haven't any issues with paint chipping but there must be different batches of HOX+ because my first device had a rubber coated power button and my replacement hasn't.

FA34D, slight overhang on the top right and bottom right, otherwise quite perfect. Not sure where the light leaks out of, but I don't notice any leakage; nothing as bad as the capacitive buttons leaking through to the screen on my Amaze.
Edit: had the wrong corners identified.
I've got overhang on top left, but it's so minor to me I don't care. Plus with the fact that a lot of other people are reporting the same makes me feel better. Everything else on this phone is PERFECT, and I'm OCD about this stuff. :good:

Ok I love all the android phones, last year I purchased almost all the top high end phones like HTC one x, x+, GS2, 3, Nexus 4 and so on. I get tired from the phones onece I play with all the roms, so I sell them on Craigslist for little cheaper(I take the loss) and add money and buy a new phone. I own the GS3 for almost 6 months, this is the only phone I kept for that long and still love it. So when I saw what GS4 was like and the HTC I decided to get the htc one because the GS4 looked like GS3s
Anyway I tought the HD screen is going ro be a big deal and the aluminum HTC one looked like high quality, but I used it for 5 days and I faund that htc still doing garbage quality control. The phone is looong thebpower botton is very high, and i have big hands. The phone gets hot when I start using, the battery drains (I almost disabled all the apps). 2 dead pixels and so one. So decided to return and never ever get HTC, becuse every time I buy HTC all the time it has toooo many defects. Mytouch 4g, htc one x and one x+. I exchanged the one x for 5 times so I dont want to go tru that anymore.
This is my opinion. Sorry if it was long.

I for one am not going to bash on someone who simply has a different liking. I have been lucky with HTC; out of my last 4 phones, I only had to exchange one (my HD2) because it was overheating. I always liked HTC build and designs.

Quality control of HTC one...

I am a tech savy person who love new gadgets.
In my previous days, I had galaxy s3, note 2, and iPhone 5. Also I've went to T-Mobile store to buy the Sony Xperia z.
Sony was a great phone with waterproof and dust proof. But the downside out weigh my decision.
Sony had problems with their ui, like lag, and slow updates. Also WiFi reception were terrible. Also the battery won't hold charges and it would die within matter of couple hours. The phone's design is all glass, therefore... Holding the device would be extremely uncomfortable because it would get way too hot.
So I've went ahead and got the HTC one.
As far as ui goes, it's far surprior than Sony.
Only issues I have with my HTC one is one stuck dead pixel and making small popping noises through speakers. ( I will be exchanging next week)
Anywho, besides those few quality issues, HTC one feels good in hand. Just wanting to keep playing with the phone.
Anyways, is having stuck pixel quiet common? Along with low popping noises ?
I'll get the HTC one, because it's unique design and it's not galaxy phone. ( just joking). What are you experiences with the quality issues with the HTC one?

The popping sound is normal. It's just the amplifier turning on and off.
The dead pixel seems to be common as well. If it's not too noticeable I wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy your phone.
Nothing is perfect in life.
popping sound will be gone with CM 10.2 unofficial.
Had this sound too while using Stock Rom, ARHD or Trickdroid.
Also i've got a very small gap on top of the device but i can live with it^^
Yeah like not really even finger nail width but enough to see it close if you pinch down? That's what I have too. Got a clear Cimo grip back TPU case coming in a day or 2 from Amazon so once the clear case is on I wouldn't even see it.

The dead pixel is very small and only can be seen at black images or at dark places. But still visiable.
Also there is slight gap on top of my device. I'll still return and get the different one.
Oh and my usb charging poet has a chip... This was out of the box as well.

yeah exactly... but it doesn't close if I pinch down.
I'm only using my Fitbag for the One, didn't like cases so much^^
i bought my htc one at my local t-mobile store. it was perfect. then i bought my gf the same phone 1 week later from the same store. her phone had 1 dead pixel that was very annoying. you could only see it on a white screen. but it was a pretty big square. so i took it back and the replacement one was perfect. i wouldn't deal with a dead pixel with a brand new phone.
is this gap normal? got my one yesterday.

it should be not "normal" but seems to happen quite often :/
I've got the same gap but it starts near the power button and goes to the left corner (facing the phone as normal)
Cool, t mobile is sending me a new one so if the one they send is the same I will just keep this one. Otherwise it's one sexy device

So, I went to the local store and found the one with 7/2/13 manufactured HTC one. I assume being the lastest made was gonna be on par with quality.
And volla! My third one paid off! It's in perfect quality. No dead pixels, no gaps, no glue sticking out.
Mean while, I made a call to tmobile and they sent me another one... But this one looks like refurbished phone. But didn't have any dead pixels. Although it has small gap and glue sticking out... Looks very refurbished and looks like the company were rushing the device to build.
Both are solid without any noticeable defects. I'll be keeping the one out of new box. And send the replacement one. Although this one doesn't have any dead pixels.
I guess later built phones are more quality vs earlier manufactured date. So far, it's an amazing phone. I'm so happy with it in the end and paid off!
Anyways, wish you the best everyone.
