"Tests carried out by NordicHardware show that the HTC Sensation 4G loses WiFi and Bluetooth strength when gripped in a certain way. Using a signal measuring app and regular audio apps, NordicHardware shows how the HTC Sensation 4G rapidly loses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signal, even if its just sitting flat on the palm of your hand. The loss is substantial, with as much as 20 to 30 dBm down in connection speeds."
Will we see a similar issue with the evo 3d?

The sensation's antennas are built into the back plate while the Evo's arent. Still, you would think HTC would have learned from apples mistakes...
I quickly lose Bluetooth connection on my Evo 4G when holding it in most positions. It cuts in and out just bouncing around in my pocket.
Seems like something you would test before you release a phone. Still surprised at what gets over looked.

I don't have my pre-production EVO 3D, but a test Sensation 4G. I did the death grip 4 times, and nothing happened. I've never encounter that mistake on any HTC device I've had in my possession. Then again, why would I hold it that way? I take those test as if Apple are suffering with that mistake, Android devices must be suffering with it too. That's my opinion, because this is the first time I've even heard of this problem.

A lot of Android phones have this problem... Maybe not death grip but holding it sideways will lose reception with WiFi and even Bluetooth..

Really? Let me try doing it with 4 different devices. Is it WiFi and Bluetooth both on, or is it separately?
Edit: Tried the Thunderbolt, Sensation 4G, Inspire 4G, Droid Charge, and the trusty EVO. WiFi and Bluetooth : no problems.

Mostly WiFi... But the g2x and sgs4g does it with both.... That I've tested
Id say try separate
I rarely use Bluetooth and only noticed it on WiFi

Yeah, I really hope the Evo 3D doesn't have that issue.. that's just what I need--all my smug iPhone friends coming over and giving me crap.
Can we change the name of this thread to "death gripe"?

What is your biggest complaint on the HTC Evo 3D so far?
Mine definitely has to be the power button... You could sneeze and the thing would turn on. I had a leather holster that held the original EVO. While the 3d fits it fine, the mere contact of the end of the case on the power button turns it on (and keeps it on).
I think this could potentially be fixed with a software update - possibly requiring the power button to be pressed for a second or two (and not instantaneously) before taking effect.
the 3D makes me slightly nauseous.
and i don't think the camera button needs to stick out so far..
3g, 4g, and wifi signal do not seem to have as fast of speeds as my evo downloading the same page, in the same place. (may be because the evo was rooted)
call quality is not as good as the evo.
but, the speeed, and the screen clarity.. i like.
My updating icon on the top of the phone is constantly on .

I just got back from my local Radioshack. Their store phone wasn't activated yet and their rather tech un-savvy crew was scared to death to even turn it on...sigh
...but I did get to see the mockup. I have to say, I --hate-- the shape. I loved the Evo4G shape. Perfect to me. But, now I've gotta say...I'm more than just a little turned off at how narrow it is. It's going to make web pages suck in portrait and really suck in landscape...sure, the gigantic jump in resolution will surely make that a lot easier to deal with than first glance of a mockup would suggest...but I just hate the way the shape looks.
That said I think the materials, construction and overall appearance (shape aside) are fantastic. Sure, it was just a mockup, but it was the fancy mockup....I just wish the screen was less narrow...I hate that so much.
...I'd will not jump ship to ATT, but, the Holiday looks more my size. I'm a tall guy with big hands, that narrow candybar **** is irritating.
I'll still get it and try it out...but...this might be a deal breaker for me.

Yes this was causing me to have 100% uptime. Tracked it down to Gmail contacts sync. Manually hit the sync button and eventually got it to stop. It may be killing your battery.

I don't have the phone so maybe I'll change my mind when I get it but I think the side would be a better place for it. Seems like it would make texting and doing stuff while charging easier. Just my opinion.

So many times in my truck on lunch break at work I would be texting or IMing or surfing or tapping replies on XDA and streaming through the stereo....and I had to choose between milking my battery dry or dealing with supreme annoyance.
...I just hope it isn't in the same retarded place as on the thunderbolt....or the kickstand case opens up the opposite way...
Not a fan of the the battery cover. Feels like I'm going to break it when I take it off. Also the side charger port and the fact that you have to unplug the charger to take off the battery cover

Could it be the difference in size? The 3D is slightly taller than the Evo, so it could be already bumped up against your case.

My beef with that location is talking on the phone while in the car. The cord goes up, and gets pulled down. I'm almost certainly going to break the charge port.
I would have to say my biggest complaint is the charging port being on the side. With the way I hold my phone it gets in the way. When in the car I use the phone to navigate (I would never text and drive) and the charging port is on the opposite side then the charger so it is pulling down on it and its not comfortable.
Camera takes decent pictures. Have had phone activated for about 3 hours and its not a noticeable battery killer. I have been streaming music on 3G, took a photo one in 2d and one in 3d, moderate texting ( maybe 80 messages) and it is at 69%

I just noticed that when I put my hand around the bottom of the phone my signal drops by 2-3 bars and as soon as i remove it, it goes back up. I can do it over and over again. Just out of curiosity I tried this with my evo 4g and the signal doesn't change. I've seen a bunch of people reporting that their reception isn't as good as other phones with the 3d. could it be the antenna placement just like the iphone 4?

I would recommend getting a bumper...
No, for real though, the iphone had the issue because the antenna was built into the actual outside of the phone, when your skin touched it, it would change the attenuation which caused the issue of poor reception. Our antenna is totally internal so this would not happen.
I think your holding it wrong. Seriously though I just did the same and was unable to recreate the issue. Might be defective.

Mine does it to, very annoying.
I saw somewhere in another thread that the radio antenna is indeed on the bottom of the 3d. Dont know if thats confirmed or not. But it would explain the drop when covered by hands.

61% with nothing touching my phone.
70% with my hand covering the bottom.
56% with both hands around the phone.
I fail to see how this is like apple because EVERY PHONE loses signal when being touched. The problem with Apple's was that it dropped the calls.

Yes, without anything it's at 80% and once I grab it it drops to 30%. The antenna does seem to be at the bottom unlike the 4G which was on the top.
And calls drop all the time.

My problem is that if I cover the upper part but well I almost never do that.
This needs to be recognized as a known issue since it has been brought up many times
I noticed the same thing but wierd thing is sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.
I could recreate it for 15 tries in a row but then I closed the internet browser and moved the phone a couple inches and the problem stopped.
I will keep monitoring the signal while I grab the phone and see what happens. But yes it did happen when I grabbed the bottom.

Its not a "known issue". It just so happens that this is a cell phone. Which has antennas. Which, when covered, loose reception. No way around that. Its the nature of cell phones.
Comparatively its like complaining that when in a lead lined room, you have poor reception.

The iphone issue was caused by them leaving the antenna exposed on the outside of the phone. Whenever you would touch it in a certain spot it would short it out and you would lose the signal.

While it may not be exactly like the iphone, could it be similar in the fact the antenna placement isn't optimal? I think that most people hold their phones toward the bottom where the antenna is where as on other phones like the evo 4g they wouldn't be covering the antenna by doing this. I just know I've seen quite a few complaints regarding reception so this could be a feasible reason why.
Hello All, i'm going to pick this phone up just wondering if anyone encountered a serious death grip issue like the other htc phones that came out. I understand most phones do have it but the sensation had major issues. The Evo 3d I had lost a few bars but never the wifi connection.
I've noticed no signal degradation in normal use. I just tried todeath grip it and saw no change to either wifi or mobile bars.

Same here. Whatever was causing it on the Sensation must be fixed because I don't have that happen at all with this. My Sensation still does it and its quite annoying.
I know lots of users are experiencing overheating. I'm just wondering if it's all or just a select few of the phones. My phone has been perfect aside from the overheating. No sounds screen or pink button issues. I'm debating whether to call amazon and order a replacement. I'd hate to get one back that has more problems than the one have.

The only time i over-heat is when using the MHL adapter. Havn't tried playing 3d intensive games for longer than 10 minutes, so not sure about that (i'll try later tonight, they won't let me play at work).
Might be that the screen is on too long at high brightness rather than just the processor taking in to many inputs? Or it might be the 4g, cause I was streaming movies when watching on the MHL... it'd be nice to know what people are doing that makes there phones overheat so we can analyze more results.
Never had an overheat on my rezound. I run wifi daily all during work. usually only streaming pandora or gmusic over wifi. netflix on some days but never gets hot. mostly on wifi so not sure about 4G.
With the 4g network down in Chicago yesterday I was plugged into a wall outlet and streaming through a radio feed via dolphin and my phone wasn't overheating in 2g. Coincidence? I think not lol. Will be testing my replacement rezound starting today we will see how this one goes.

Is the the battery itself or the phone. I got my replacement phone today but has pink buttons so. I'd rather just swap batteries
