[Q] CyanogenMod Development Status? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
what is the status of CM development for the SGS2?
I got mine yesterday and want to take part in development if there is something already going on or start a new port of CM for the SGS2 if not.
Greets, Goddchen

I don't think anyone is working on CM, but RyanZA is working on AOSP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091554

bump really , i know the thread in developers section was closed due people asking eta's but ......... i just wondered if or when we where getting CyanogenMod

I do believe this is the thread you guys want to be checking.

tldr: No ETA. Hardware codecs and bluetooth fix, then nightlies.
Doesn't seem to far off though

CMSGS Developers needed

So I had always heard that we would see CM development ramp up after the 2.2 source was out. I went over to http://cmsgs.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Main_Page to see how things were going. This place is almost dead except for git updates and a little irc discussion. I was thinking it may just be because so few of the developers on XDA know about CMSGS. Well its a project to put AOSP builds of cyanogen on SGS phones like the Vibrant. If you dont know about the project head over and stur up some conversation, and maybe some code.

On a serious note, I think everybody really does know about Cyanogenmod (CM7) and if they had the capabilities and want to do so, they would be helping. I knew about CM before I discovered XDA. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, the reason CM7 is a slow going process right now is that the source to the drivers have not been released... That is unless the latest source release contains those...

Do you have a vibrant? Stupid question I know but its confusing when you have Nexus One and G1 on you signature. Anyhow how do you make a signature lol sorry? Well hopefully more people help the dev thats porting CM7.
A good CM6 isn't even out yet. Hence I see the purpose for it since the source code is out. Who cares about some broke ass CM7. We will have to wait months if ever the source code comes out for gingerbread on the vibrant. I see no point trying to port the CM7 to the vibrant at all. I do see a lot of sense to get a nice clean running CM6, hence the post is a good one.

We don't NEED source for CM7. Considering almost no phones have Gingerbread source, they wouldn't even be working on CM7 like they are if this was a deal breaker. You know the saying "don't knock it 'till you've tried it"? Maybe you should adhere to this as CM7 actually runs pretty well on the Vibrant already.
Now, to respond to the OP. I realize a lot of people were expecting some change in development speed for CM7 with the release of source, but there was no reason for this. Nothing has changed or should change. The source we have now is barely applicable if at all to CM7.
Honestly, though, if you look at the list of bugs, it's not that long or severe. The only real non-issue issue is the complicated installation, which they have no reason to improve until they're satisfied with the rom.

Can you point me in the direction or post a "how to" to the installation of CM7?

Go to the i9000 android development forums, it will explain everything.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Or go to the Vibrant General section for some more CM7 info..
@dumdidum on twitter said he ordered a Vibrant so Im sure he will help port it to the Vibrant once he receives it.
they already started adding the vibrant to the source the other day but i been running it fine from the i9000 plus what scrizz said for the modem and a toggle headset widget

I think thats a good place to start, i would prefer CM6over any existing vibrant rom (sorry not a insult to existing roms)
If their were any dev's that really wanted CM on their Vibrant it would have been done by now or there is something that is really holding them back. I don't know why anyone would want to lose functionality for a little extra speed. Side by side CM7 on the Nexus S is almost identical to the Vibrant running BionixV, why would you want to give up video codec's and a better UI for that? I would love to get Bionix V on my Nexus over CM or stock Gingerbread any day.
I use to see Cyanogen as a god of android back when I had the G1. His ROM was the ONLY thing I ever put on my G1.
I know that the Cyanogen team really only does a lot with HTC handsets since HTC is AWESOME with giving out the source to their drivers. And I was so hoping to see it on my Vibrant, but in all honesty I've given up the dream of seeing a stable build for the Vibrant.
Samsung don't play nice like HTC with what sources they release so I know it's tough for CM team go get a 100% stable rom for Vibrant.
The devs we have here that do make roms for our phones are the greatest. Team Whiskey, Team Einherjar, Eugene, Master... They all do such great work and also calaborate and make my Vibrant so awesome and sleek. So honestly I am not holding my breath for a stable and easy to install CM Mod ROM for our phones. Tho I would like to see one, I'm totally happy with the ROMS we do have to pick from..
Anyways, Good luck to all of you devs who are working on porting CM over or working on an actual CM ROM for our phones.
But for now, I'm loving those ROMS we do have.
Ill help as soon as I can get a new motherboard for my pc

Im working on building a update.zip from CM source, but i cant promise ill succeed as there isnt a lot of documentation for this device due to the lack of people working on this branch of cyanogen. If i get a flashable update ill post it, maybe that will inspire someone who can actually dev and not just build existing source code.
Okay this is where im stuck, its a documentation issue look at http://cmsgs.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Build_CyanogenMod_for_Samsung_Vibrant#Configure_Build
when i get to lunch cyanogen_vibrant-eng i get this error
Code:
build/core/product_config.mk:190: *** _nic.PRODUCTS.[[device/samsung/vibrant/full_vibrant.mk]]: "build/target/product/full_base.mk" does not exist. Stop.
** Don't have a product spec for: 'cyanogen_vibrant'
** Do you have the right repo manifest?
Im sure its a simple config fix, if someone can figure this out and update the code or the wiki we may have fixed the one part of the build process that scares devs away. Im too stupid to fix this
Moved of: Samsung Vibrant > Vibrant Android Development
To: Samsung Vibrant > Vibrant Q&A
Please put your questions to: Vibrant Q&A
Ill b up and running soon working on a vibrant specific build once I'm completely done with ToXic 1.0 =3

Are we ever going to get official CM9?

Is this ever going to happen? CM7 had easily the longest run time on my DINC. Just curious if we're going to get it or not!
It doesnt officially name any devices but they put together a little chart to help figure out if you will get an official cm9 release. Check it out. http://androidspin.com/2012/03/14/will-your-device-get-cm9-the-cyanogenmod-team-has-that-answer-for-you/
Honestly, I don't think it's going to happen. Based on the No answer to Does it currently have an official CM7 Release?, the next question is answered No as well.
Most people I've talked to about this seem to skip that and go to the question Is the manufacturer releasing ICS?
Based on the chart linked above (which is official and I saw it on their Google+), I don't think we have a high chance. I'll most likely be returning mine today unless my wife wants it when the SGS3 comes out.
The first rule about CyanogenMod ETAs...You don't ask for CyanogenMod ETAs.
Nobody asked for an ETA. Asked if we'd be getting an official release, whether it's now or next year.
No reason to troll someone just for asking a question.
There's an ongoing thread for it in the Dev section as to where it stands, probably some good info in there...
The only way it will ever get official support is one of two ways:
1) A current CM developer gets a Rezound and ports it, or
2) One of you guys ports it yourself and becomes an official maintainer of it, keeping the project active by continuing to merge in all the official CM9 changes as they occur.
There are still a lot of technical issues preventing AOSP builds from functioning fully on the Rezound. Once those are sorted out, eventually somebody will build a CM9 port. Whether or not it becomes officially supported by CyanogenMod as an official release is entirely up to the developers who ported it and whether or not they want to work with the CM team to make it official.
As soon as we get ics kernel source its very likely that a dev will attempt to port cm9.

[Q] CyanogenMOD for Droid Razr/Maxx?

I haven't found a thread asking this question: does anyone know if the Cyanogenmod team will ever work on making an official Cyanogenmod ROM for the Razr? I would really look forward to something like that happening! Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm still kinda new around this area!

There is no new about a official cm9 for the razr. Dunno if it will ever gen one. You can go on drodhive, there you can find the cm9, aokp and other rom working on cdma (the gsm user are less fortunate and only have miui and some deoxed roms)

[Q] Just a question about the HWA of cm10

First,I'm sorry for my poor English.I just have a question about the HWA of cm10.As we all know,we have the su660's kernel source code, but we still can't have the HWA.Once I used the defy which used the old kernel but still could have the HWA.I know the defy uses other phone's drives,so why the A4 can't?Lg su660 has the same CPU as A4.Maybe I shoule be patient, but I really want to use chrome. The chrome is so fast and beautiful, and I really love it.What's more, can epinter post a thread which introduce the progress of building the new kernel?
There are way too many threads/posts on this already, one more thread is really not needed.
Everybody wants HWA, everybody is impatient and pushy about it, and that only produces countereffects. Be patient, quit asking, it'll happen when it happens. Or give it a shot yourself. We all have the same resources available.
Thread closed in light of the above statement.

[Q] [ROM] 4.4 i717 Question

Hey everyone, I'm new here and have been trying to find out what's going on with the i717 in regards to kitkat rom development. Anyone have any updates or know how soon we can expect to see some nightlies or any types of builds?
Thanks!
Has it even been released yet?

I will edit my original post here cause I was a bit of an A-hole. this was you first post and I didn't want your first impression to be as nobody here wants to help. of course if you had already read the previous, than I am too late and can only apologize.
a few spoken rules in one of the threads for newbies here.
1. run a search, maybe the question has already been asked before
2. read, read, read
3. help yourself first, as nobody is going to do the work for you.
there are thousands of people that are more than willing to help here, but you should be mindful of repeating questions as some folks can get irritated. it is usually someone that asks a specific question about an issue that was just addressed 2 post up or on the previous page.
making a personal request for an immediate feature that may have just been announce can also annoy some developers. some to the point where they have stopped developing.
good luck and remember to read

Thanks, I didn't read until after the edit, however from browsing around here I was worried I would just be told to shut the **** up etc...
I have tried looking all over the place for info on a 4.4 rom and if people are working on one for the i717. So far I can't find anything. I was just wondering if anyone knew if the phone would be getting a ROM or left behind.
Our latest official release was 4.1.2.
As you can see, we now have ROMs on 4.2.2, 4.3 and 4.3.1. I have not seen any devs "promise" a 4.4 rom, and I don't expect them to.
But, the 4.4 source just dropped few days ago, and I am pretty sure that they are looking at it, at the very least. If history is any indication, I would say we are going to get 4.4 roms eventually. Developing a rom is hard work, so please just wait.
Asking for an ETA might be irritating for devs, if you are not contributing to the development. And if you are contributing to the development, you should already know the answer to the question.

Sorry, I don't mean to annoy anyone. I only came here because no other place had info and was told to go to XDA. I am not trying to rush anyone and I know these things are a ton of work. Like I said I was only wondering if people thought at some point 4.4 would come to the i717 not plz give me rom now.

And?
He posted the preview in General. I haven't been able to flash it personally because I use TWRP (and only CWM works at this point) but you're welcome to check it out. Flashed CWM Recover to try. P3 ran well, although obviously a bit buggy. P4 is out now with less bugs--both ran smoothly...well enough that I'm happy using it as a daily driver.

Yes, relative to ASOP/CM, the ones that I am aware of: JamieD81 is already working a version of CM11 plus his stand-alone Uber kernel and I believe that you will see Liquidsmooth (Patch_Adams) and Hellybean (ThdDude) come up with their versions. If you have not yet tried them, they all have excellent 4.3.1 kernel & Jellybean builds.

I would be happy with 4.3 if MHL works to use Chromecast features.
Would love to recycle older devices and connect to TV or Projector permanently.
