I had Soundhound installed. Worked fine. After a flash and install of GB 3.5 at the time, I was unable to install. I tried grabbing an .apk from a friend, Amazon, and A. Market. All get to the install step and say unsuccessful. I searched the phone via root explorer and deleted EVERY known file associated with the app. I have wiped cache. Still nothing. Anyone have any ideas? I know I could flash and set it up again, but want to try to avoid that.

i tried to put a third party app on my brothers eris an it said its parsing or whatever. i did it the same way i did mine an it worked fine with my phone.
Try any or all of these:
1. Try rebooting.
2. Menu/Settings/Applications/Manage applications/Running
Click on Market. Clear cache.
3. Wipe Dalvik Cache.

Just experienced this with a friend that tried to install one of my apps I had sent them on Gmail. She long-pressed the attachment in Gmail and got the "parse error". The trick is to save/download it to you /sdcard somewhere (/sdcard/download for example) and then use Astro File Manager (or similar cool file manager app) and short-press the .apk file name to bring-up the App Manager which will allow you to install the app.
Good luck and cheers!
i put it on the root of the sdcard from the computer an tried it from esfile explorer..it was smartcam. an it stopped working on my phone after i flashed to a different rom but it still installs
I recently tried to install the free Avast Anti-Theft software. This software is free, and the feature set is pretty cool. It installs itself into your system apps so that it can survive a factory reset. However, this aspect of the software doesn't seem to be working. When I try to follow the in-app instructions and install the app via the direct write method, there are no errors and I am told to reboot at the end. When I reboot, the app is not there, and I have to go through the installation again.
I also tried an alternative method of installing via an UPDATE.ZIP file from within recovery. The zip claims to install with no errors in recovery, but again, no sign of the app when I boot.
This app used to be called Theft Aware until Avast bought them out, and the old version installed fine as root on my Hero. I have tried to get answers from the Avast forum, but the guys there seem to be clueless.
Any thoughts? Anyone successfully installed this app as root on their Hero? I am running Floyo 1.2 custom ROM.
Are you searching for the correct name? I just installed the app and as far as I can see it disguises itself with a fake name in order not to be detected and removed. You are prompted to choose the name yourself at the beginning of the install guide!
Hi, I'm on Foxhound's Revolver Ocelot ROM and I keep getting these two messages whenever I try to download anything from the Play market;
Package file is invalid & Insufficient storage available
I cannot download a single app from the Play market.
Please someone help me to resolve this, preferably without a factory reset.

Try to download apps using another network connection. Sometime it many be a temporary network issue. Also try these methods http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2011/12/fix-android-package-file-is-invalid.html
try what MyLifeRocks10 said: "go into either the /system/app/ or /data/app/ directory and delete the odex file that has the same name as the respective .apk"
I'm trying to download Sports Car Challenge and am getting the same problems.
First it was insufficient storage space, so I rebooted, same problem. Then I unmounted sdcard, app cannot be installed in default location, so I remounted sdcard now I get package file invalid.
AAARRGGHHHH !
I've tried clearing cache of google play store but no difference.
I am running standard XWLPG firmware with CF-root.
Solved. Sort of.
I've spent two days prowling the web searching for solutions for the "package file invalid" error. My problem was that maps would not restore from a backup or install from the market. I did one of everything in an attempt to solve it, I'm pretty sure. Since it looks like the cache is simply jammed up, preventing the install of large Google apps, I used a Titanium Backup filter to list all my apps that reside on the phone rather than on the SD card. I uninstalled a few of the bigger ones (actually just three of the biggest) and then went to the market to install maps. Came through without a problem. Strangely, using Titanium again I was able to restore all those apps I'd uninstalled to make room for maps. I have no idea why that worked – it seems spatially impossible – but for now, at least, problem solved. What a total hair-puller the invalid package error is.

+1 to this..
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but anyways the issue I'm having is installing Facebook on Bluestacks. I had to restore my computer so now I'm reinstalling Bluestacks and I can't seem to install Facebook. I can install other apps but I can't install Facebook. I tried going back to several version of Facebook and several version of Bluestacks and I can't get it to work. I already tried several fixes like the Google Play deleted data and cache trick and it does not work. The error I get is the Package file is invalid. If I try to install a APK of Facebook I get a error saying "APK installation failed: INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_APK" and if I try to install a downloaded APK through Root Explorer I get a this file appears to be corrupt. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Still no solution to this. Am I the only one having this problem?

Been at this for a couple of days already and still no solution. I noticed Instagram is having this problem as well.
Hey all,
I tend to download off-market apks quite a bit and this is the first time I've run into this issue. I'm trying to download the TomTom Go app and it keeps saying that the app package is corrupted. Whether I download it from a random site, Aptoide, or ACmarket, it doesn't matter. However, I tried testing it with a different app (AccuWeather) and it downloaded from off-market sources just fine and installed. I can't figure out the reason for this, since I tried several sources and all of them had the "it appears the app package is corrupted" error. If it helps, I'm running a rooted phone (RS988) with magisk and Xposed, with a TWRP recovery.
Thank you for any help you can give me!
Edit: I have tried wiping the data/cache of the package installer, I've tried moving the APK into my /system folder and changing the permissions, I've tried resetting the app preferences and I've restarted the phone. The next thing I'm going to try is wiping the dalvik cache and see if that fixes it. Also, quick sidenote, I can install any app I want from the play store.
