If the ROM requires an ext partition, I would strongly suggest getting a Class 4 or better SD card. For what kind of partition, read the instructions for the particular ROM regarding filesystem/size.
Thanks again..
Ok..can u pls tell me which custom rom supports class 2 sd card...and which one doesnt need partition of sd card

This is not a matter of ROM. Class 2 is simply too slow, I would not suggest using with any custom ROM that relies on sd-ext partition. Best case will cause the phone to be slow.
CM7 ......i m using it on class 2 sd card .....
Partition Sdcard:
Partition SD: Partition's sdcard for apps2sd (this formats card so all non backed-up data is lost)
- will create ext2 partition (you will be asked for size of ext2 and cache)
just to clarify things,.the backups made through nandroid will not be erased if i partitioned sd card?

If you partition your SD card all data that was there before will be GONE. (Already written pretty explicitely in the text you quoted.)

Do I need to partition sd-card before flashing ROMs
some have written but some have not...
By the way, what does partitioning sd-card do?
Example:
Nessy's ROM need partition?
You have to go according to rom specification, if it says you need partition than you have to partition it. Else no.

as u see if u create an ext parttition in your sd card all ur app and games moves to the sd card partition by default using a2sd and ur phone gets a larger space but using ext partition requires a minimum of class 4 sd card
hey all,
i was about to wipe and flash a new rom but accidentally clicked the partition sd in cwm. i think the size of the partition was 128mb...
i flashed the rom anyways and its like nothing happened. i plugged the phone into the pc and only shows the internal memory and my external sd card.
any1 had experienced this b4?
a little worried so need some input from others.
cheers
By internal u mean the 11.50gb partition and by external you mean ur memory card? Ofcourse you can only see those two.. You can see the 1.9gb partition of your phone because it is where the application gets installed and it is not used as storage for media etc(if you know what i mean)..

from what i understand, the cwm 5.0 function "partition sd" means the 1.9gb partition. i think i partitioned that portion of the fone. anyway to reverse that? would a restore of backup clear that 128mb partition i made?
No, partition SD is the external one (micro sd)

U mean the internal memory? U won't need to format it m8, just delete what's on it and just flash over whats left.
No need for a format, there probably is a section in there to format it though.

It is very safe and will keep your system clear. I tried. No problem

In some versions of CWM, the internal sdcard and external SD (emmc) are flip-flopped. In order to format the internal SD of my galaxy s2 using CWM, I had to choose the option to format emmc. If I chose sdcard (which should represent internal SD), it would have formatted my external micro USB. If you have an external SD, just remove it before trying this procedure so you don't wipe the wrong thing (I have made that mistake).
I want to create a ext partition on my SD card using GParted. But when I do this GParted will not finish the operation. I wait one or two hours and nothing happens. When I create a FAT32 partition it's no problem. With FAT32 everthing works(read, write). With CWM I also create a ext partition but CWM only create a FAT32 partition and instead of a ext partition there is a non-partitioned area. Did my Legend distroy the SD card? I don't understand it because I can use a FAT32 partition. Need help
Thanks for help and sorry for my bad english!

Use cwm instead to do the partitioning. But be sure to backup ALL contents of your sdcard as it will be completely wiped/formated.

Do you mean partitioning with cwm? I did this but it don't worked. Now I have an other trouble, too. I can't create a 2nd partition on my sd card :crying: I need this partition for my apps. Is there any way to "repair" my sd card or I have to buy a new one?

Since rooting my Legend, I have used up about 4 SD cards. They will work in other devices (DSi, other phones), but not in my Legend. My Legend just refuses to recognize them. So, to spare yourself a lot of hassle, you can try once more to, in recovery mode, format the card by using CWM (first make a backup of your card of course), then partition (create an EXT partition) also by using CWM.
If things do not work out, by a new SD card. That is what I did.
Edit: I just remembered: if your card has an ext partition and you try to create another ext partition, you will end up with two ext partitions. And my Legend wasn't too happy with that, after each reboot all my widgets were gone...

I use a sd card 4gb,.
how the capacity for ext and swap.?
Making partitions on SD card will delete everything from SD card,so make a backup of SD on your PC,then delete everything from SD card and make partition. I did like this

EXT size doesn't matter, put the space necessary to fit your needs. If you doesn't wish to use SWAP (or if you doesn't know what's that), set the SWAP size to 0.
Pay attention to this, also:

My advice to you would be to use minitool wizard to partition your sdcard.
But however or whatever way you choose to partition your sdcard remember to make a copy of your sdcard contents in a folder on your PC.
