[Q] partitioned internal sd (accidental) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey all,
i was about to wipe and flash a new rom but accidentally clicked the partition sd in cwm. i think the size of the partition was 128mb...
i flashed the rom anyways and its like nothing happened. i plugged the phone into the pc and only shows the internal memory and my external sd card.
any1 had experienced this b4?
a little worried so need some input from others.
cheers

By internal u mean the 11.50gb partition and by external you mean ur memory card? Ofcourse you can only see those two.. You can see the 1.9gb partition of your phone because it is where the application gets installed and it is not used as storage for media etc(if you know what i mean)..

from what i understand, the cwm 5.0 function "partition sd" means the 1.9gb partition. i think i partitioned that portion of the fone. anyway to reverse that? would a restore of backup clear that 128mb partition i made?

No, partition SD is the external one (micro sd)

ODIN questions

I had some questions on ODIN if someone could enlighten me.
When I select re-partition... what is it really re-partitioning? Is it just the data or is it supposed to repartition the whole internal sd... cuz mine does not seem to repartition the internal sd.
If that does only the data... how would you re-partition the internal sd?

I do know it wipes the area where you files system is stored. So if you have all kinds of lag fixes like oclf and voodoo and your also flashing roms like crazy. Its good to check re-partition so it completly wipes anything you may have done in the file system area.
Fear the beard...

Repartition should reformat your internal sd card... And it should put you back to [rfs] if you are, let's say, coming from vooodoo [ext4]. However, you do NOT need to have your SD card in when using ODIN, I NEVER have it in as I don't want my sd card to get wiped.
If you want to WIPE/FORMAT your sd card you can simply mount your phone to your computer and delete your phone's internal sd card folder

By internal sd I mean the unremovable 16 gb. Not the removable sd card.
I’ve tried re-partition but it does not usually wipe anything on the internal sd... is it supposed to?

Re-partition should only wipe out the internal data not the regular storage. Internal SD 16GB, and external SD will remane untouched.

so this means it will be safe to repartition even if i have my titanium backup on my internal sd right?

[Q] Internal Memory Full - any suggestions?

Hi!
After installing and playing around with some Roms, I found out, that
the internal memory is full.
I have found several informations about handling the internal memory thing - but I don't know which one is the right answer for Legend.
I used app2sd to install/move all apps to SD Card, but the internal memory still gets full.
Then I found a post in which one says that it's needed to make a ext partition on the SD Card to make it work right.
Can anybody tell me, what is the best way of getting more internal space?
I use the [ROM][RC3][24.07.2011] Gingerbread 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 2.1 - which works perfect - only the memory is strange.
I also made WIPE and Factory Reset before flashing this Rom.
Thank you!

best you can use apps2ext by darktremor, i have also used it on this rom and it works
some quick instructions;
-backup your sd card manually in windows/mac/linux, because making an ext partition on your sd card will delete all your files on sd card
-use clockworkmod 3 to partition your sd card, you can chose different sizes (i use 250mb and its enough) and you need only an ext partition ,cwm3 can be found here
-restore your files back on the sd card (previously backuped)
-flash darktremor (link above)
-restart phone
that sould be it
Thank you, workes fine. Should I IDE LOW Memory option?

I have flashed DarkTremor. But how exactly do I know if it is working? I converted my SD Card from ext2 to ext3 and I still can't move applications over. My internal storage space is still less than 20MB. Can anybody offer any assistance please?
Thanks

theres an app on the market which controles darktremor's script, just search for "darktremor" on the market its free, and see what is using your internal memory and if darktremor is even working
remember, your cache is still on internal memory and your text messages etc are to
Blayo's kernel has data 2 ext support so you can run a ext partion as your internal memory. I would suggest a class 10 for it though

out of my experience and the words of TheGrammarFreak (who made the data2ext script for cyanogenmod), data2ext is faster in benchmarks but slow in real use
and a class 4 sd is the best (words of TheGrammarFreak)
so out of my experience don't use data2ext but use apps2ext

Help! Increase Partition Size

Hi, is it possible to increase the size of the partition where the apps are located? in other devices like my iPad I can use the total amount of disk space for apps but in my Galaxy SII if I want to have lot of apps I have a small 2gb partition. Do you know a solution? I need more space for apps...
Thanks!
Are you talking about the internal or external (SD card) disk?
I think the internal disk space is fixed to a custom partition, but if you're using App2SD or any similar script with a partition inside the SD card, you can repartition that partition to fix your needs without problem with any partition editor (like GParted).
I'm talking about the internal memory of the SII ... In other gadgets like Apple we have the entire disk space to install applications if we like.
Do you know a method to increase the space of the app partition? I think that is not a great solution to depend of an SD card, we have a lot of memory on the phone. I don't know why samsung have limited to 2GB the data partition, I think is too small...
Any idea about resize the partitions of internal memory?

Don't know if its possible atm...
What do you have installed that you need +2Gb for apps? Have you considered moving some apps to SD?
/data partition has 2Gb
/sdcard has 8Gb
Both partitions are from the internal memory so moving any app from /data to /sdcard won't affect your speed, since both are internal memory...
PS: Despite the name, /sdcard is internal and /sdcard/external_sd is the external SD Card mounted on the phone.
Hi! AzureusPT thanks for your help... The problem is when I try to move to Sd card a message appears saying that I have to insert an SD Card... so I think that is not possible to move applications to /sdcard internal memory.
Do you know another method?

sd card means micro sd card.. the /sdcard is the internal sd card w/c you can store data internally.. external sd card is your memory card.. the way android works is (or sgs2) has 3 partitions, 500+ for rom, 2gb for applications and tge rest for storage.. for games like gameloft which has huge amount of data, the installer itself is in thr 2gb partition while its data is stored in the 11gb + partition.. so no need to worry about running out of space

formatting internal memory

I'm selling my Amaze, keeping external memory.
Where is the location for custom recovery - is it on internal or external card, or somewhere else - in the phone?
I want to wipe the internal memory, keeping temp external card, reboot into recover and install custom rom from external memory, then reboot and remove internal memory.
Will the above procedure work ?
your internal memory is basically an internal sd card, so formatting that will not affect your recovery or system etc. there's a partition set for system files. Your procedure will work, just flash a rom and format the internal sd before or after, it won't matter.

Thanks, wasn't entirely sure, as I'm about to do all of this in front of the buyer. I guess formatting internal SD card from recovery is the safest way, as I read doing it via PC renders the card useless.
Thanks mate!

U mean the internal memory? U won't need to format it m8, just delete what's on it and just flash over whats left.
No need for a format, there probably is a section in there to format it though.

Ok but why in others post the people speak about using terminal emulator or dialer code to format sd card?
Usually with rom i used cwm to format but by sgs3 this is not possible or i wrong
It is very safe and will keep your system clear. I tried. No problem

In some versions of CWM, the internal sdcard and external SD (emmc) are flip-flopped. In order to format the internal SD of my galaxy s2 using CWM, I had to choose the option to format emmc. If I chose sdcard (which should represent internal SD), it would have formatted my external micro USB. If you have an external SD, just remove it before trying this procedure so you don't wipe the wrong thing (I have made that mistake).
