formatting internal memory - HTC Amaze 4G

I'm selling my Amaze, keeping external memory.
Where is the location for custom recovery - is it on internal or external card, or somewhere else - in the phone?
I want to wipe the internal memory, keeping temp external card, reboot into recover and install custom rom from external memory, then reboot and remove internal memory.
Will the above procedure work ?

your internal memory is basically an internal sd card, so formatting that will not affect your recovery or system etc. there's a partition set for system files. Your procedure will work, just flash a rom and format the internal sd before or after, it won't matter.

Thanks, wasn't entirely sure, as I'm about to do all of this in front of the buyer. I guess formatting internal SD card from recovery is the safest way, as I read doing it via PC renders the card useless.
Thanks mate!

ODIN questions

I had some questions on ODIN if someone could enlighten me.
When I select re-partition... what is it really re-partitioning? Is it just the data or is it supposed to repartition the whole internal sd... cuz mine does not seem to repartition the internal sd.
If that does only the data... how would you re-partition the internal sd?

I do know it wipes the area where you files system is stored. So if you have all kinds of lag fixes like oclf and voodoo and your also flashing roms like crazy. Its good to check re-partition so it completly wipes anything you may have done in the file system area.
Fear the beard...

Repartition should reformat your internal sd card... And it should put you back to [rfs] if you are, let's say, coming from vooodoo [ext4]. However, you do NOT need to have your SD card in when using ODIN, I NEVER have it in as I don't want my sd card to get wiped.
If you want to WIPE/FORMAT your sd card you can simply mount your phone to your computer and delete your phone's internal sd card folder

By internal sd I mean the unremovable 16 gb. Not the removable sd card.
I’ve tried re-partition but it does not usually wipe anything on the internal sd... is it supposed to?

Re-partition should only wipe out the internal data not the regular storage. Internal SD 16GB, and external SD will remane untouched.

so this means it will be safe to repartition even if i have my titanium backup on my internal sd right?

[Q] partitioned internal sd (accidental)

hey all,
i was about to wipe and flash a new rom but accidentally clicked the partition sd in cwm. i think the size of the partition was 128mb...
i flashed the rom anyways and its like nothing happened. i plugged the phone into the pc and only shows the internal memory and my external sd card.
any1 had experienced this b4?
a little worried so need some input from others.
cheers
By internal u mean the 11.50gb partition and by external you mean ur memory card? Ofcourse you can only see those two.. You can see the 1.9gb partition of your phone because it is where the application gets installed and it is not used as storage for media etc(if you know what i mean)..

from what i understand, the cwm 5.0 function "partition sd" means the 1.9gb partition. i think i partitioned that portion of the fone. anyway to reverse that? would a restore of backup clear that 128mb partition i made?
No, partition SD is the external one (micro sd)

wipe internal storage

Quick question here:
In TWRP recovery, if I choose to wipe internal storage, does it mean I only wipe the internal sd card or does it wipe the system ROM also? I am on the latest moded viperX+ TWRP
Thank you.

Yes it will only wipe the internal sd card . If you choose format internal storage, it will wipe everything. SO DON"T FORMAT
If you format interal storage why would that be a problem ?

When jumping between ROMs people generally like to keep the contents of their Internal Memory intact. It used to not really be a problem, because most Android phones had SD cards to act as their internal memory (this isn't technically correct, but you get my drift), and those SD cards would not be wiped when you formatted your system. Now that the phone's internal memory is actually part of the phone's filesystem, though, it requires a bit more effort to ensure you don't wipe out the contents of your "SD card" when formatting the phone.
but isnt internal storage just where photos/music and stuff is stored? yet, certain apps have folders there, and twrp keeps nandroids there, titanium keeps its backups there, but if you KNOW this, you copy these folders to pc first, then format, then copy back those folders and can still restore nandroids or titanium backups, right?

no external storage

Flashed this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235446
I am getting this error of No external storage available on all the apps that require internal storage e.g. In Gallery, it says no external storage available, same in camera, explorer e.t.c
Have I done something wrong?
Do you have an sd card?
I do have an sd card, currently, the player only works with the sd card.
somehow the sd card is being treated as the internal sd card? this is completely weird. As soon as I take out the sd card, it fails to recognize the internal card.

Find "vold.fstab. (system/etc)" open it, and change "/mnt/sdcard/sdcard1" to "/mnt/sdcard/sdcard0."

1 can you go setting--- memory-- check what is available and send the scren shoot.
2 when you wipe in recovery no any strange message at the screen? like can't read or open mmcblk0p 15....
I got this same kind of problem but i dont have and external Sd, but i want to save the pictures on the phone it self is there a way to change this? Because when i open the camera ap it says, no external memory.
I had the same issue
I had the same issue.
Go into recovery mode and try to mount emmc. That's what my external SD was renamed.
It was fine when I loaded the ROM but it flaked out after I loaded a different kernel.
I would recommend using X-plore from the Play Store to navigate your files. It's the best way to explore, move etc.
Try format SD-card:
Go to CWM -> mounts and storage -> format sdcard

Phone Storage partition disappears.

I have an external sd card formatted as 54 gb fat32,3gb ext4, and swap. When I insert the sd card and restart, the phone storage partition (/sdcard) disappears. When I look for the partition with a file manager it appears as if the link is broke because /storage/sdcard0 is also missing. Instead my app storage partition shows 16 gb.
This is bad because I can't access the internal or external sd card partitions. If I remove my external sd card and reflash the rom everything is ok.
I followed a guide so that I could setup app2sd. My assumption is that I would have access to the fat32 partition on the external sd card while also using the ext4 partition for app2sd. What am I doing wrong?
Just curious. Why did u partition your card?

I for some kind of app/data 2 sd solution. I keep running out of internal storage.
Weird. I'd say to reflash the rom fresh after a clean wipe. Also, if u have that many apps, I'd consider disabling or unistalling some.

its mostly the media scanner app, google currents, and chrome for android.
The media scanner app will take up 300mb because I have about 25 gigs of music on my sd card.
Media Scanner? PowerAmp has a very nice folder scanner.

This is exactly something I wish I could do for my phone. Allocate the full 16G of onboard storage to App Storage and use my SD card as an actual SD Storage. Is this because you partitioned the SD card the way you did (Fat32/ext4)? After a fresh flash of a rom, wouldn't everything work normally with the SD card being the only SDCard0 instead of having 0 and 1?

I used a bad guide which caused my problem. Never use a windows machine to partition ext, or any partition not native to windows.
I booted up a Linux that had mini tool baked in. Once I fixed the provisioning issue with my sdcard it stopped disappearing. Then I gave up. The partition still isn't recognized by the system. My total system storage Mercer changed.
What I think you are describing is switching storage links.
