Difference between themes in App section and themes like for ADW - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

This might be a stupid question but what is the difference?

Themes in [Theme section] is flashing themes that you install thru xRecovery or Cwm.
ADW themes are fore the Home launcher app ADW. The ADW themes dont touch the physical memory of the phone and therefore its much more safe than Themes you flash alltough Flashing themes changes the whole design of the phone and ADW just changes the Homelauncher

Theme flashable through xrecovery of clockworkmod recovery change the framework, for example flshing a sense theme will make your mini look like sense ui
while theme for ADW are launcher based and vanish if you remove the launcher, moreover they dont't give a system wide transformation...

I understand how to install it BUT: if i theme my cm6 will the phone act like i installed a new rom and will i have to do all settings and homescreens again? or will all my settings contacts and apps still be on the same place just with a different appearance?

there are many alternatives to change the stock icons
1. DO IT YOURSELF
decompile APK's and literally change lot of img inside
2. INSTALL A LAUNCHER
launchers like NovaLauncher, ADW, GoLauncher, etc support themes that are meant for their launcher
3. FLASH A ROM THAT SUPPORTS THEMES
ROMs that are AOKP/CyanogenMod based/AOSP/MIUI have lots of themes
if you are the android fanatic type, i suggest AOSP/AOKP/CM
if you think apple's icons look rather dashing, then i suggest grab MIUI
cheers!

Thanks for reply,
Maybe I forgot to say that I prefer stay in stock deodexed rom with original touchwiz home launcher. So I think the only way is decompile apk... is apktool good for this?

[Q] How to change theme of custom ROM without flashing

Hi Guys,
Id like to know if there is any chances to change my current theme of my custom ROM without having to reflash all again.
Im using Zelly Cream ROM on my Xperia Ray.
Thx in advance
Can't you just install themes from the market? Although that is only possible if you have a theme option in your settings(android 4+). Once installed you change them via this theme option in settings
I mean, the custom ROM itself has different themes to chose from.
In AROMA installer I selected one of 4 dif themes that it has.
And I want to know if I must flash once again the hole ROM or just flashing it again with the dif theme will change the theme and also wont destroy my current config and apps.
Use Go Launcher

u can use go launcher for changing themes of ur rom widout flashing anything
google it for more
ADW Launcher is my personal favorite (its customization options go nicely with CM7 for my device). GO Launcher is really good though and has TONS of theme development support.

You'll need a CM ROM to use that, the clues in the title. Themes can be installed in a few ways and generally what they're for either in the title or the theme thread.

"themes can be installed in a few ways". Launcher themes, Theme Chooser, X-Themes, themed ROMS or themed apks, you'll need to read the threads for how to install each one/way.
