Hi, I was at my grans today which is in a more urban area than where I live and noticed my Galaxy S II had a full signal and was showing the 'H' where it mostly says 3G.
I did a speed test and was very surprised at the speed. It was actually faster than my broadband at home.
Is this HSDPA or is it HSPA+? I'm not sure how you tell and what speeds you should be able to get.
I'm in Three UK by the way.

I believe the icon will show as "H+" when you're using HSPA+. So just showing "H" means HSPA.
Here you can see my HSPA+ coverage.
But does not always mean faster than HSPA
Surely at around 6Mbps, that would be HSPA+?
I've never seen the + icon on my screen.

Not really. If it says "H" its HSPA, "H+" is HSPA+. The speedtest result doesn't really tell you anything. For one, during the short time I had H+ I saw lower speeds on H+ than H, either because of immature radio firmware or because the areas most likely to get H+ first are probably the most heavily loaded/congested areas.
I frequently get 6-9mbps in speedtests on H-only, and once hit 11mbps without H+. In theory H goes up to 14.4mbps and in practice it's easy enough to get 80% of max rated speeds at off-peak times in a lot of UK cities. Just did a random test on H only, 5:43pm so not exactly off-peak. Server's in London, I'm in Edinburgh:
H+ would probably give you 12-18mbps at off-peak times but the speedtest.net app has problems going above 10mbps anyway so I doubt you'll see it without a better test.

HSPA+ is available on dongles and handsets, some other people have seen it in key areas. It's not nationwide yet and not everywhere has it. Again, you'll probably see it in the busiest areas first, and it's only a 50% increase in max speed under good conditions so won't be a huge capacity increase, and so you won't notice a big difference. You'll only see a difference on H+ if you were already able to get the top 14.4mbps speed of HSPA beforehand.
I'm on Rogers Canada with HSPA+ and I get those same speeds

poor speed here..
2-6 Mbps Miami, FL
About 2-5 in Socal , have never seen it go past my Captivate (HSDPA) yet.
This would probably be a lot more exciting to people on the TSGS2 forum. I can't imagine anyone on AT&T buying a T-Mobile phone just to gain access to AWS which doesn't even exist in Europe or Asia. Besides, the Skyrocket is the same phone but LTE and will pull 15-18MB down so if AT&T'rs wanted a bigger screen they'd get that. It's good that it works on AT&T for you T-Mobile'rs so it's not a door stop after the merger.
I don't have screen shot sorry. But LA, California I have a bug that does not let me test. -__- i will edit later when it works
No the thing is on the original gs2 I get 1- 1.2 mbps and on T-Mobile gs2 I get 6-10 mbps on At&t. That's why I wanted to know what kind of speeds At&t gs2 owners are getting that's all. I'm not suggesting anyone to go get the T mobile version.

Why is that? What makes the T-Mobile version better for data on the same network?

It's not. The TSGS2 can get a theoretical 42MB down on T-Mobile using AWS so it's definately going to be faster there. Part of the reason isn't just the phone, T-Mobile's using dual-cell HSPA (link below). On AT&T's bands, it's 21MB down just like the ISGS2 and ASGS2 and AT&T's network's not dual-cell. If he's getting different results it's either because of APN settings being off, incorrect account provisioning, or AT&T's network just being randomly flaky. If OP was getting 1MB down with an ISGS2 something was horribly wrong. I get 3-4MB down in 3G cities and have gotten 10MB down on occasion when traveling in TX but routinely get 6-8MB down in fake-4G cities.

Does anyone know if AT&T still plans on enabling 64QAM on their HSPA+ network(if they haven't already)? Or have they decided to ditch evolved HSPA+ in favor of LTE? I love my Galaxy s2, but sucks I can't take advantage of the HSPA+ 21mbps radio, especially considering there will not be LTE here in Detroit anytime soon.

They are still using 16QAM which effectively limits your speeds at 14.4mbps in theory. The latest I've heard is they will not be upgrading to 64QAM and they expect their users to fall back to 14.4mbps capable HSPA+
Totally sucks that T-Mobile users have been rocking 64QAM since last year.
Im nearing that 14.4 limit

We just had updates in central Wisconsin a month or two ago and my data went from about 200k to about 2.2Mbps overnight. My evo lte connects perfectly to the new tower hardware, but is slow (100-150) on the older towers. Oddly, we also now have wimax in the woods near the upgraded tower, but it doesn't show on sprints map.
According to the local techs I know, the hardware throughout northern Wisconsin is about 50% complete and late should be set to go in all current 3g areas of the state by December...but that implied sprint just flips the switch the moment they can.
Either way, my findings are evo with new tower, great...with old tower slightly worse than my nexus.

Try updating your PRL, and if that doesn't work you can try switching the network mode to CDMA only in the mobile network settings menu. If you're rooted you can also use MSL reader off the market to get your MSL, or call sprint and ask for it, then dial ##DATA# and change your EVDO mode to CDMA HDR only. If using MSL reader, for some reason it only works if you install, uninstall and reinstall again.
I got more consistent 1mbps speeds, up from 500~, in the san francisco area, I don't know if they're messing around with the towers over here, but there has been reports from people that these workarounds should force the phone to stop trying to flip between EVDO and LTE

Is it possible to have LTE speed on my GTI9300?
Is there anyway to speed up my internet connection speed?
I'm asking here as I need to know if it possible to increase the speed of the connection.
Or anything that can I do to uncap my speed limit?
The only way to get LTE is to buy a GT-I9305 (or other LTE ready phone.)
Try different modems to increase the speed of the connection, or a different network.
The networks cap speed, not the phone, so there is nothing you can do once you hit your network's cap.
Sad

Even if you would manage to run the 4G frequency, your phone can't connect itself to the 4G network, since it doesn't support 4G and it wouldn't "understand" anything it would receive from the network, since 4G uses different protocols then 2G/3G.
So as long as your phone doesn't have a 4G compatible chip there's no way to use 4G

Ask your network or your networks forum .
Or go to the stickied Faqs and Guides and refer the modem thread . You can always try another modem .
