[Q] Live Messenger client on droid - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I need to have a Live Messenger client so I can keep in touch with family that lives abroad. I have MSN Droid X which I believe was a port from the Droid X phone.
Ever since I moved to comrom, even 1.3, the OS kills the app, sometimes within 5 minutes, sometimes more. I dont have any task killers installed, so this has to be the OS killing the process.
Does anybody have a recomendation for a Live MSN chat client? Or maybe a way to tell the OS not to kill Live Messenger?

Serious Issues with T-mobile HTC HD2

I have a t-mobile HTC HD2. I use the msn messenger on the phone a lot. At times I get the msg "the wireless network is not availabl right now. messenger is trying to establish a connection" and then the msn does not work. I m using the 3g feature of tmobile. Can u please help me out..
i've had that happen to me a lot, unfortunately i never found a fix.
Instead I just stopped using live messenger and switched to nimbuzz and then to palringo. personally, i believe both have stronger connections, they're free and you can them with your live messenger account as well as those of other messaging services (like facebook chat and yahoo chat)

Task killer killing my apps???

I really like my Rezound but it seems like the built-in task killer is killing off all of my apps that need sync and/or push notifications. I saw that the OTA update was set to fix that it was killing off email syncs, and it did fix that, my email app syncs all the time now.
However, my facebook widget, facebook messenger app, yahoo messenger app, yahoo mail app; they work fine for about 8-10 hours, then after that they just dont update anymore at all. When a new email hits my yahoo account, it stops getting push notifications, when someone sends me a new facebook message, my facebook messenger app doesnt get the notification, etc. This really sucks. The only way I've been able to get them to work again is, every morning after waking up, I have to power down and restart the phone 2 or 3 times to get them all back working. But usually by the end of my day, they've all stopped again.
Any ideas?

Anybody experience this too?
Do you mean the HTC power management scheme? Because I don't remember a task-killer being installed.. Forgive me if there is because I haven't seen stock since about a week after I got the phone. Maybe try setting the power management to performance mode and grabbing an app like Juice Defender that's a bit more customizable.
To piggyback on what MrSmith said (speaking from personal experience), if your battery gets to the point where your phone goes into power save mode, background data and/or auto sync may be turning off, and it doesn't always turn back on.

Mine is in Performance mode. Gingerbread comes with a task manager built in. One of the big issues that the OTA update fixed was the fact that the built-in task manager was killing off the email sync in the background (according to the official description of the update).
I'm assuming that the task manager is auto-killing a lot of stuff as well too. My facebook widget almost never updates after a few hours after rebooting.
I'm still on 100% stock. I guess at some point I'll unlock the bootloader, root it, and go with a new ROM. I'm not real familiar with the process for doing that with an HTC. I came from the Samsung Galaxy S world. It was so much easier to root and switch ROMs, etc.

[Q] Should I switch from WM6.5 to Android ?

Hi all, I have a HTC HD2 which is running fine, but looking at Android, I reckon my phone could be even better.
Why do I use Windows Mobile ? Simple, I'm dependent on Outlook on my laptop. This is my work tool, and I cannot go without my email, tasks, calendar and contacts. No compromise. And I use pop3 with my own domain.
Now, the only thing that prevents me to switch over to Android is ActiveSync, or an equivalent, that would sync emails AND calendar AND contacts AND tasks.
As far as I know, that's not possible. I found various apps to sync calendar/contacts but NOT emails. Or vice versa.
Am I correct in this statement ?
And no, I do NOT want to sync over the cloud using Gmail (let alone an Exchange server which I can't afford). I want to keep it as it is : pop3 to and from Outlook, then sync via USB/Bluetooth.
If there's an app out there, bring it on !!!
Thanks.

I am ex winmo (4 phones ago) and think you will find it very hard to go no cloud.
The best solution I could then recommend would be to run a local mail server on your laptop and then sync over your wlan. You could do this using a receive only function on a nix based mail server.
Lot of effort... sorta like re-invemting the wheel.

Did you try apps from Google Play store like Maildroid or K-9 mail or Touchdown Exchange? I use maildroid and email syncs just perfectly. The stock email app can sync mail and calendar !
Looks like you're stuck with WM since there isn't an equivalent for Android or IOS. My first smartphone was a WM6 device and I wasn't impressed. Pocket IE is garbage, thank goodness for Opera Mobile and Mini. WM6's constant memory leaks meant rebooting my phone almost daily if I opened any apps. ActiveStink may be well and good for heavy Outlook users but for someone who just wants to transfer files to and from PC not having USB mass storage in WM6 was a BIG MINUS.
Here's the cherry on top - WM7 & WM8 phones will not be compatible with apps you purchased for WM6 so your phone is already obsolete.
I guess you can do as maskslash suggested or find another contact/task management tool on your that does the equivalent functions which also works with other smartphone OSes.
Or upgrade to WM8.
Otherwise your WM6 handset joins Symbian users - stranded on an desert island.
Well you have the best phone out there if you want to dual boot Android and WM. Android and others all rely on the cloud these days, there really isn't anything out there like Outlook/Activesync anymore.
Thanks for all your replies guys, you've confirmed what I thought. I'm actually looking into getting MsExchange somewhere, but it sux Outlook-USB-WM is no longer an option.
Cloud may be good for western countries etc but currently I live in Asia-Pacific in remote areas where Internet is at best 128k, when it works. POP3 and local sync is the only option for me.
Oh well I guess I'm a dinosaur then

Not until you show me I can sync Outlook using USB...
Then I'll get a new phone.
Theres plenty of 3rd party solutions out there like this, but you'll have to try it for yourself to see if it works.

Not Getting Notifications

I'm not getting push notifications on my device even with Wi-Fi on :/

[Q] Gmail on Android Help

Hey All,
I have an issue with corporate email on my android. Short version, the company I work for uses Gmail as our client. They support Iphone and Blackberry because the platform is secure. They do not support Android.
I am desperate to keep my Android and use it for my corporate email. Is there any way to make this happen?
Second, I can access my email by using the chrome browser on my phone, but, this is without notifications and does not auto update so I have to constantly log back in, very annoying.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
