I have a problem on SGS2 , hope someone can help.
In stock browser Setting-->Auto Fit Pages(Enabled).
Then I zoom to a level I want and double tap
Expected Behaviour : Text reflow to fit the screen at choosen zoom level
Problem : but the browser returns to default zoom level on doing so instead of text reflowing.
I had no such problem on SGS1.
Kindly help .

Hello Friend,
Thanks for the pointers.I also tried to search the form and found several discussions going on the same topic.
It seems there is no solution to this problem as of now.
It looks like a oversight by samsusng because this feature was there in SGS1 but not given in SGS2 .
Tbh the solution, as per the links posted, seems to be to use a different browser.e

Enabling auto-fit in settings and setting default zoom level to close seems to solve this problem upto some extent.
Well something is better than nothing.
Did you reboot? On my phone it works after a reboot
tried Dolphin Hd : didnt work (work on my tab though)
tried Opera Mini: didnt work
the only one that works for me is the Opera Mobile. The browser allows text reflow on my galaxy S2. Give it a try.
Cheers,
AP

On the gs2 browser when i zoom in on text, it doesn't reflow.
Is there a way to get the text to reflow???
(because scrolling left to right is rather tedious)

bullsh*t. there are no settings for this. dont mix up text reflow with double tap fit to page.
i use opera mobile, the only one browser where it works on sgs2.

Isn't the option "Auto-fit pages" what you want?

This guy is right. It is double tap to fit the page.
Really annoying, the only thing I miss on my HTC Desire! Really would like full text reflow, but double tap really isn't that bad!
Opera is the only one with a propper rendering as you are searching for.
Has its own Presto engine coming with it. Best browser at the moment, imho. And I spent some efforts to compare, measure and daily-use almost all the existing browsers.
What I also like: it's the only browser that allows to activate a single flash content in a page with several flash contents.
HTML5-Test: 234+11 (stock: 182+1)
Browsermark: >60'000
Rendering: top
Same issue for me.
I switched to Dolphin Browser HD which is great and does text reflow.

I changed for Opera precisely for this reason, the text reflow.
It changes everything for ease of use.

Speed wise does it match the stock??

Yes it's very smooth, and you don't get the frequent checkerboarding. Make sure you get Opera Mobile rather than Opera Mini.
I don't understand why some people have to lie on this subject !
Some SGS2 owners (a minority, but still) said in this forum that if they pinch to zoom (even to a very large size), and then *slowly double tap on the screen*, text reflow will happen (without zoom being changed). They said they can achieve text reflow at any zoom level using this method.
Apparently you can't trust anyone here. If someone thinks he can do this, please post a video so we could all see it's possible (as of now there a ZERO videos on the net showing this is possible).

I can do it on my htc Desire running MIUI rom, using Dolphin HD.. zoom in, then double tap fast and it reflows. i've always done this on my browser so im really surprise that its not normal!

It does not. As has been stated already only Opera Mobile does it properly on the S2, so far. Stock: nope. Dolphin: nope. Don't let anyone fool you.
Dolphin Browser HD can reflow (see screenshot, full version of Lifehacker website, not the mobile version).
I really don't understand...on my device and another 2 of my mates devices with dolphin installed and fit to pages ticked we can never get it t reflow when piched to zoom..it will only reflow on double tap...how come people keep saying it will reflow on pinch to zoom??? plse tell me how to do it???
Thanks
hi guys, i came across this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13954588 this gallery seems to be from the galaxy's 2.3.3 and it reportedly to be much faster the stock ones. i can't seem to get this working on my streak running SD 1.9.1 thus would anyone care to get this working? P.S i have tried installing via recovery and adb.
Try QuickPic from the market. Default for me.
thank for the suggestion but i still fancy the effects of the gallery3d. Cheers.
nothing better then quickpic

let me tell u a secret.
I have SGSII and I still think gallery has nearly the same speed as streak.
Edit : I also use quick pic and its a must have on any device
Agreed on quickpic, although I find PerfectViewer has better quality.
I use QuickPic for a very good, quick overview, and PerfectViewer when detail is required

Hi guys
Sorry to post another browser thread, but i searched and all i could find were threads full of people saying how bleedingly fast Opera Mobile is for them, so i had to post this.
I've been trying it out in comparison to the stock Android Browser (i'm using a Galaxy SII on 2.3.4). To test, i was loading up the full desktop version of the Engadget site, as it has lots of graphics and seems like a good test.
Well, the stock browser finished loading (i.e the little green bar) in about 20 or so seconds (didn't time it exactly as the difference between the two browsers is so massive). On Opera Mobile it loads for, and i'm not joking here, about 2 whole minutes! The site is readable long before then in fairness, but it should not be taking this long surely. I was using 3G for both tests so i cannot see why there is such a huge difference. I tried out a few other sites, and they too were much slower, so it wasn't a one-off.
The thing is i really like the Opera browser and would love to use it, but not with these kind of load times.
Can people share their experiences, and let me know if i'm not alone in this regard, or if i'm missing something?
Cheers guys.

Opera Turbo usually introduces such 'infinite' loadings for me. Have you tried turning it off?
Yes
I had a bunch of problems with Opera as well......Sticking with Dolphin for now as stock is not playing well with CM7
No.

Thanks for the replies guys. I turned off Turbo and it made a big difference I have to say. The jury's out though as to whether our not it's actually any faster.
Something else is bugging me now though
The font in Opera Mobile is just horrible. I've changed my system font in Display Settings to Helvetica S. With it webpages look so much nicer, but Opera mobile uses it's own horrible font. Is there any way I can make it use the same font as the rest of my device?
opera mini is the fast one... though fairly buggy
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.mini.next.android
This new beta seems to have
1. Much lower memory footprint
2. Is much faster
3. Beautiful transitions!
3. Seems to work like a GPU accelerated app on Gingerbread!
which brings me to the question, is there any way a particular app can use GPU ui in Gingerbread. Not an NDK app, just a normal Dalvik-VM app.
Tested on GT-P1000
I was a fan of Dofin HD, then switched to Opera, a favorite, then switched back to the Fin HD since it seems to be lighter and faster.
I might give Opera another try and see how good it is.
But I definitely using stock WebBrowser when ICS released
Thanks OP

Give Opera Mini Next a try. It does have hardware acceleration says their press release though I don't understand how, on gingerbread.
Are there any hacks for it yet, like free 2g/3g internet?
does it have flash support this time? I loved it, but because of not supporting flash kinda bad...but i loved turbo mode =) saved like 60% internet

You can get Opera Mobile which has the same UI as Opera Mini only the download is larger since it can download and render pages locally, and also includes flash compatibility. Opera Mobile also allows you to toggle turbo mode, I have mine set to be on turbo when on 3G and use the local presto engine when on wifi.

Hey guys, did a quick Google search on this and didnt see any answers to this bizarre quirk.
I am on non-rooted ICS (stock) - no comments from the peanut gallery about this. Once CM is stable enough that I feel I can use it, Ill switch.
Now, on to the problem.
I installed Chrome and set it to the default browser (but Ill probably change it considering what Im about to post) and set the home page to google.
I begin typing a search query, for example, 'Samsung AT&T No' and Google presents some suggestions of what it thinks Im going to actually search for. Tapping ANY of these suggestions hides the suggestion list and does NOT fill in my query with the suggestion I tapped. In addition, the keyboard is also hidden until I tap in the query edit field again.
In addition, Id like to just state for the record, xda is TERRIBLE on mobile (the website). I dont know what this new 'theme' is but it is barely functional on mobile, on the desktop, the website is completely broken in Firefox (14.0.1 w/ No Script and Tree Style Tabs plugins installed - and yes, I am enabling scripting for XDA).
So, I have reverted to the old xda theme until this is fixed.
BUT, does anyone know what is wrong with Chrome?
Is Chrome out of beta?
if you click the arrow next to the auto complete search query it will fill it in for you.

Yeah I was having this same issue. I am rooted and using the stock browser, same goes for the google search widget. But the answer above solves the problem.
