How to update installed apps - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched but could not find a specific thread.
How do i update my installed apps? also is there a way to update them at once rather than one by one?

What apps? Apps you downloaded from market?
If so, open market.. go to downloads.. and it should tell you if there are updates for your apps or not.

no not from market

I use appbrain to sync my apps, but will only offer you updates from the market. What apps do you mean, can you give an example?

[Q] How do I remove app from MY APPS?

Hi guys,
I've downloaded and installed an app from the market.
I don't like it, so I remove it.
I install a new ROM and then restore all my settings using my google account, and the app is re-installed as it is listed in the MY APPS section of Market.
My question is, how I can remove this app from this list in MY APPS to avoid the app getting auto-installed?
Cheers chaps

[Q] Is there a 'market enabler' for the new market?

Hi, so I have Market Enabler installed and for some reason it doesn't seem to work on the new market. Also, cf3d's 'open market' seem to have no effect either.
Is something broken? Anyone knows of a market enabler that works with the new market? Thank you!
We need a market enabler that works with 3.0.27
It will be made, its just a matter of time. Im very interested in this too, I had to rollback to the old market because of this.

I'm very interested too!
I got it!
Download the attached file.
You will find Market 2.3.6 (april 2011) and follow the instructions file.
Now I return to this version of Market which is fully compatible with Market Enabler!
Tested in a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000.
Yes we know it works with the old market. What we need is a market enabler for the 3.0.27 version of the market.

You should be able to get free apps. Only problems with market enabler is actually buying apps. So, roll back and reupdate or something.

Did you clear all data / cache? for Market? then emulate on boot a new provider and reboot. I am using it ever since the new market was released and it works.
Cheers.

Did the same on a Optimus 2x and it didn't work.
I had to uninstall the market update and MarketAccess works as advertised.
Cheers!
This thread should probably be in the general section rather than under SGS II.
I am also using the old market but instead of using an APK I simply uninstalled the update for market from 'manage applications' to go to the old market. Also had to uninstall the market updater system app using Titanium otherwise it updates automatically. Very irritating.
+1 for a solution for the new market since I have to do this every time I change ROMs (which is often). However, the new market is ugly as anything. The waste of screen real estate is appalling!

Updating APK's not from Android Market???

when you download apk's/games from the internet and not from the android market... how do u update the game if future updates become available? it doesnt show up in the my app's list in the Android market?
It depends on the app itself: some have auto updaters, others require you to download a new version by hand.
how do u know if it has auto updater??
and also, does turning on auto update in the android market update the ones that u didnt get from it also?

nah, some of them are lol
anyway i dont have the 3.3 or the newest version of the android market for some reason
Try aTrackDog (market.android.com/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.aTrackDog) It will find out what apps need updating, but you will have to search for the apk yourself.

They won't auto update then, but you should support developers rather than stealing their apps
like setcpu? free on here but won't update in the market?

[Solved] Cannot purchase app because market thinks I already have it.

I "acquired" an apk for an app and now I'd like to buy it but the market only gives me an option to update the app and when I do it tells me that I haven't bought it.
I've tried uninstaling, clearing market cache, installing through online market, delinking from market in tb but nothing works.
Any ideas on how I can make the market forget that I ever had this app?
You said you tried uninstalling; what did you uninstall? The market or the app?
I've got the same problem. Installed one of Getjar's gold apps (free apps that are paid on the market). Got fed up of it sitting there in the Android Market's updates list (it seems not all developers bother pushing updates to getjar, and you still have to manually redownload to see if there's an update) but I can't get the Market to let me buy it - it seems to have latched on to the getjar version.
When I uninstall the app, it shows up in the market as purchased, but attempting to download fails the additional checks. Since it thinks its already purchased, I can't buy it.
I tried clearing the market data and cache, but that doesn't make a difference
Try installing the app again and clearing the data for that app and then uninstall .. Also check your sd card to see if you have app data on there

Both. First it was the app and now I've update market too. It's definitely a market issue as when I check it out online it shows as "purchased".
I just found a solution - find the app on the web marketplace, and it'll let you buy it there, then the phone will happily update.

With the app being uninstalled, when you go in the market and try to re-download the app, what happens?

The app shows up with "purchased " next to it. I then click on that followed by Install but then a toast message appears saying that it's not been bought.
In the web market it also says purchased although that's where I'm going to dig around next.

Weird situation. Here's an idea: Re-install the apk file which you "acquired", then uninstall it through the market. See if this fixes your problem..

That's the problem - when an item needs to be updated in the market you only get options to Open and Update rather than Open and Uninstall. I could try to get the "acquired" version update and then uninstall that I suppose.

Yes you could. Also, you don't always get Open and Update. Sometimes you may see it say Update and Uninstall and if you click update and it fails (for some reason), then it changes to Open and Update.
Don't uninstall from the market use your stock app manager or titanium backup if you have it but first clear all traces of the app your trying to un install.. Cuz their may be some kind of cookie/data Installed that is telling the market you already have it

OK having tried uninstaling through different methods I've managed to solve it.
I used the Old Market app to replace my 3* version and I was able to officially uninstall and then purchase the app.

Hi,
great to hear that you found a solution. I have the same problem here. Can you provide a download link to the old Market version you used?
Thanks a lot
Wrapp
I had the same problem and this is what I ended up doing.
Under Manage Applications/all
clear data and uninstall updates for market
clear data for download manager
Now I opened market and had the old/original market back, before it updated again I searched for the app that was bugged and it let me purchase/install it on the old market. A minute later the market was auto updated. Not sure what steps were actually needed but this is what worked for me. GL

Can you, please, share the old Market apk?
Just install the "acquired" version, then goto Market and un-install it. After that the market will show an option to purchase.
I had the same problem. I installed version2.2.6 of the market. and searched quickly for the app that said purchased before the market updated automatically. It let me purchase it. Problem Solved. I would post the link, but I don't have enough posts here.

Market?

how do you update your market app? I don't know if it's because the app is outdated but a lot of common apps don't show up when I search for them. thanks on advance.

Market
Im not sure that you can thats a good question, what if you update the phone itself
If an update is available it should update itself automatically, however you can force it by clearing the market data.
Also try some market enabler to fake your location if there is no update available.

Market should update on its own. Some apps don't show because of location, download a market enabler.

As said earlier, the market should update on it's own. If it doesn't, then you can manually install the apk file: http://www.multiupload.com/O7AIK6RLAL.
try to search on google the apk, the last is market 3.4.4
