Yeah had to breathe deep on that one, but seriously. If anyone knows that be awesome thanks.
Can't do without a PC.
You have to install gingerbreak.apk through adb.

That looks like a great guide. Wish I had that when doing mine.
This is by far the easiest and quickest method:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...-auto-root-unroot-windows-updated-4-23-a.html
Just download the one file and run it and follow the instructions. it's the closest thing to a one click root
I just YouTube "root thunderbolt" and look for a guy named Nate. He knows what's up.
He's start with the setting up adb for root video. It has all the links.

+1. His video was very helpful for me.
I am new to the Android game so I'm still learning how everything works. I have had this phone for less than a week. When I received it I followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1005292 : to root my device so I can get rid of the garbage Verizon added with the OS. I see that there is an update now being pushed by Verizon. Do I just keep going to check for software updates and just install it as normal or do I have to wait for an update to the process I completed intially? Input is appreciated.
Thanks!
I would suggest not doing the ota via verizon. You would have to unroot, install stock rom, stock kernal before doing ota from verizon. Instead, try the radios here on xda. There are variations to try what fits your needs. Update radios in hboot.

Hey, see the link in my signature, it's the You Tube video that a couple others mention in this thread. I just rooted my tbolt this morning.
Nothing has changed as far as his guide for setting up ADB (my link), but there is a shorter version of the actual step by step root process - the new process ends at step 7 and the old one was 9 steps (I think).
Either way, I also used Nate's guide, step 2, the actual rooting process, on you tube, just to make sure I was getting stuff correct. It's just that the newer step by step ends and Nate's has a couple extra steps in the video - but you don't need to worry about those steps, you won't even get to them.
Hi everyone, this its my first post in the XDA forums yey!!! And the question of the day from me is, is there a clean nice way to root the telus fascinate 4g??? I saw the other posts on it and some soft bricking was happening, not to nice. I tried super one click and it hung on the 6 th step. If anyone can help out or direct me in the right direction that would be great!!

Sorry, not at this moment.
There isn't a quick way to root 2.3.4 Gingerbread phones in general, and the T959P is more of a niche model.
I am in the exact same boat as you Greatcdn. I do not want to overclock my phone nothing like that I just want to be able to remove some files I cannot remove without having root on my phone.
Hey thanks for the reply! Hmm yeah this kinds sucks, I like
GB but it would be great rooted!!! Maybe a clean method will come or soon enough.

Is there anyway to downgrade the firmware???
I just got the 4G as a gift and I'd like to try to root it.
I'm guessing the rooting methods are different from the original fascinate?
Thanks,
newbie

Hi
I want to root my atrix 4G again, I had it rooted on 2.3.4 Gingerbread but I upgraded the software when 2.3.6 (4.5.141 came out. When I was using 2.3.4 I had used Pete's Root Tools. Has there been an update to this app?? I don't want to use the command line way to root this version because I don't wanna brick my phone. Is there another way just like there was in 2.3.4 with Pete's Tools in the latest version 2.3.6?
Please help!
Thanks!!
Wait, you're worried about bricking your phone by using command line, but are happy to try a random app? That makes no sense at all...
All that rooting apps do is execute the same commands you'd be typing in. At least when you're doing it yourself you KNOW which commands you're issuing and whether they worked. If something does go wrong, you will be able to see where and why; as opposed to writing yet another "clicked a button, phone stopped working, WTF just happened!?" post.
PS, I don't think it is possible to brick the phone trying to root it.

You need to give more info, are you on ATT? or overseas?
Command line is MUCH safer than an app that you don't even know what it's doing.
I was sketched out myself doing it all and frankly have no idea if I did it the recommended way, but it worked, and was fairly easy.. For the command line stuff if you're nervous just look at like 3 or 4 different write ups... the commands will be basically all the same...
I read through like 3 and watched a couple youtube videos on it...
Although that's always been my biggest gripe about this place, there isn't ever just a clear cut simple explination or walk through of everything, it's like learning from a Greek, they make you figure it out as a method of teaching... which can be good or bad mainly bad IMO...
but I can't offer you clear instructions so good luck!
I agree. Many of the guides out there are not much help. That is why I made the guide linked below. If you can't follow it, you shouldn't be messing with your phone.

There is a tool called super one click. It works the same as petes root tool. I agree with the above mentioned comments though. Learn to manually do it yourself.

It doesn't work on GB236. None of the automated scrips do. But I agree, doing it manually is a good learning experience.

Definitely find a good guide and figure out how to do it with command line, I spent 2 hours messing with super one click (kept failing) then about 15 minutes later had it done with command line. searching it took about 3 seconds to find a link to a guide...
Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place (sorry I'm new!) but I have a Motorola Flipside MB508 and I cannot get it to root! I downloaded the z4 rooting app and the androot app but neither seems to work. Is there something else I need to do or download cause I desperately need to get my phone rooted. Thanks!
See here. I found it in the Motorola Flipside forum.
Having owned a Motorola Flipside, you can use SuperOneClick. Make sure to flash CM7 because if you don't it's a crap device even with bloat removed.
