official international prongs/plugs - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

As you might have noticed, one can remove the prongs from the official asus charger (kind of like with the apple one).
The question is: where can u get these prongs? Adapters do work fine but it would be so much sleeker just to replace the prongs whe u leave the country!
Have you seen them anywhere? I just cant find them!

Nearly all of my electronics now come with the changeable plug prong thing. Each one is a different mount design. I am certain they are manufacture specific and not easy to get a hold of.

Thats what i figured. I'm gonna contact asus wether they sell them

Would be interested in knowing what they say. I have seen a travel kit, a charger with all different prongs. Price is something like €40 which is a bit steep (unless you need an extra charger). I have plug adapters but I too think it would be soo much smarter to just exchange the prong before leaving.

The adapter set can be found here:

For UK buyers there's MobileFun.
They sell both types which are the correct one's for the Touch HD (not the badly fitted one's that you can find elsewhere).
See here for the cheaper HTC Touch Desktop CHarging Cradle.
See here for the dearer Deluxe HTC Touch HD Desktop Charging Cradle.
I have both.
Note: Both are much cheaper than Expansys.

my desktop cradle from ebay finally arrive today in a nice small box.
http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370151123238
You may want to see the items bundle with the purchase.
i tested immediately by charging the battery and syncing the touch HD without any delay. I would say the cradle is nicely built. I tested the cradle by putting my touch HD in the silicon case and plug it in and it still fit nicely into the cradle and syncing as well. (I need some additional force to push it in due to the thickness of the silicon i have) But it will be effortless for me to sync the HD if i remove the silicon case.
No regrets buying the cradle. The only useless thing i feel is the pouch that came with it. Its simply too tight, Must tighter than the original touch HD pouch. I have a problem pushing the phone into it.
But in anyway the cradle is great!
Thanks for the feedback, are you using the grey transparent silicon case from ebay?

no... i didnt got my silicon case from ebay. i got it locally. Its a clear type transparent silicon .
I had another leather pouch which i also switches around to use....
Can you plug in a standard adapter into the cradle? It looks like it uses a UK adapter to another adapter for that cradle..
What is the battery like that comes with it too? It seems quite a cheap price

As for the adapter, I did not use the one that is provided. I uses my old dopod 900 charging adapter instead. Its the same voltage and also uses USB.
The battery is 1350mAh. So far been using it on my phone and so far so good.
There's a coincidence - I ordered the exact same thing a week or so ago. Waiting on delivery at the moment, but I'm happy to see that there's another user that thinks it was worth it.
Could Anyone advise a model with audio out ?
thanks !

I have both this case and the Deluxe one manufactured by Kidigi.com.
I can say that the case you mention does not have a manufacturers name, only HTC Touch HD.
I can say though that both cases are excellent.
i know its slightly off topic, but are the spare batteries sold on ebay with the cradles any good.. how long do they hold their charge?

Transformer Charger on the ASUS eStore Price Increased

The charger went on sale yesterday for $29.99....went out of stock pretty quickly....
now ASUS is charging $39.99 for the charger...wth...
http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3613
I really hope some 3rd party chargers come out soon...i need one since i lost the power plug part of the charger and havent been able to charge it...
the TF is relatively cheep for what it is, but is Asus thinking of making bank with accessories?
$150 for dock, somewhat reasoable, but still a bit overpriced.
$40 for cheap (as in weak) portfolio case
$40 for cable?!?!?!
i don't like where this is going.

I disagree on this note.
the dock is pretty damn cheap for what it is. 150 dollars, (I paid 123 shipped through tigerdirect) and its a keyboard, USB ports, SD card slot, and the biggest point here, a HUGE BATTTERY. Think of how much something like this would cost if it were just a battery. People love to charge premium for batteries.
For the accessories, everyone knows tat they are gonna be expensive. Look at Apples accessories. They set the standard for expenive ass items.
That being said, the charger price is wicked expensive. 24.99 would be a fair price from a nmanufacturer.
One bad thing about the charger they are selling is that it doesn't look any different than the one that came with the Transformer to start with. And it's defiantly not worth 40$.

Ok I've been wanting to pinout the charge connector and measure the volts and amps on the charger. I'm going to start today. Stay tuned for a new thread.

$40 for a charger is kind of outragous when you stop to consider that one didn't ship with the dock.I'll be taking extra special care of my cable and charger till there are less expensive alternatives availble.

Some effort has already been done on this and it appears that the charger must be connected to the TF to actually supply voltage. AKA nothing when open circuit. Since charger is listed as 5V and 15V it is possible a sense pin in the connector lets the charger know what voltage to supply.

I don't believe anything other than the tablet/dock terminating pin on the cable is what triggers the charger to charge. Once I my 3.0 extension cable comes in I should be able to figure it out.

There's a couple of stores where I live in Canada, selling the dock for just under $130. I'm expecting Monoprice to eventually come out with a USB cable for the Transformer, which will cost under $10.
WG
I posted a couple comments on ASUS' Facebook page. They deleted all of them claiming I "spammed" them by asking in two separate posts about the availability of chargers.
They magically "undeleted" my post and two different ASUS employees responded with boilerplate "we will check and have someone respond to you ". I never heard back from anyone. This was about two weeks ago.
So, does anyone have any updates? Why no third party chargers? I would think the market is huge. eBay is flooded with cases now, but no chargers.
now its $50 for the charger.. lol?
It is consider cheap. In Singapore, the charger cost S$50 and the cable cost S$20.
I paid for the charger as it is very fragile, used less than a month, it is broken.
I posted a couple items on FB. Let's see whether they get a response.

LOL. Since they are not selling it yet, I think any price is likely wrong.
I really like the estore, because they are a direct parts supplier for little guys. We do not have to be resellers nor repair shops.
In retail USA shops and on eBay we can buy AC Adapters now. I am starting to see these chargers distributed in *many* more places as the accessory line catches up.
In my opinion, I cut the estore slack because of the *service* it provides across a broad ASUS line.

USB kit now available at BuySPRY.com

Just wanted to let everyone know I just received the ASUS USB adapter from a company I found on eBay (you can also buy directly from their web site). They currently still have them in stock. The cost is $24.99 w/free shipping. The price is a little more than some other companies list, but at least this company have them in stock.
Since I can't post links yet, go to the web site mentioned in the thread title and search for 668834.

Does it feel like a good connection or is it a poor fit as others have noted?
The connection seems to be good, however I know what people are talking about. Because the back of the Prime is curved, there is no bottom surface to contact the adapter. This allows the adapter to be deflected if you push on it, however it isn't going to fall out as there is too much friction/tension once the connector is pushed on. I actively pushed on the adapter from front to back and back to front and there was no loss of electrical connectivity (I was actively using an XBox 360 gamepad to scroll from icon to icon).
I do agree with others that say they wish ASUS would have redesigned the adapter for the Prime, but it does work and that is what I needed.
Just fyi, I have ordered two different USB female/female adapters to finally put to bed whether these types of adapters will allow different USB devices to work with the stock cable. They didn't cost much, so I was glad to order them just so I could see for myself.
These two adapters should arrive first of next week and I will update or create another thread with my findings.
If you have any specific tests related to the connection you would like me to perform, please let me know.
Thanks for the response. I'm wondering if the little plastic cover that ships with the Prime to protect the power port can be modified (with dremel) to act as a holder for the USB connector. Somehow attach it to the connector to give it a more secure fit?
Thanks I needed one of these really bad

I have wondered the same thing. I plan to try out a few different mods I have in mind to see if I can come up with a simple design to firm up the seating of the adapter. If I am successful, I'll post some pics and set of steps.
If only it wasn't as long, maybe wider instead, and had the USB plug into the side instead of the bottom it would be usable.

Because there are millions more people with any idevice than Transformer/Transformer Prime devices. Simple economics really, they can sell them for less as they are made in higher quantities which makes their production cheaper, and they'll sell way more of them.

While that is how economics works when referring to production costs, I doubt that is the real reason. There is truth no doubt but the difference in cost is not that great. I think it is more of there is less demand so there are less people making them, so there is less competition and they can get away with charging more.
I don't know why I am arguing with you. It is just semantics. Anyway, I find it annoying.
The real reason that iPad wires are so much cheaper than Transformer Prime wires is that a lot more companies make 3rd party iPad cables.
If you are in competition with a dozen other vendors of the same product, you drop the price to stay competitive and if enough companies are making a given product eventually the price drops to just above manufacturing cost.
Only one other company (that I can find) is making 3rd party Transformer cables, so as long as they price themselves lower than Asus's first-party cable they have no real pressure to drop their price lower.
I bought a complete TF101 charger (also compatible with TF201) for 30 from Office Depot.
I figured I can always use an extra USB charger along with the data cable.

Does anyone know if the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 cables are compatible?
They look the same as the Asus cables in photos and they both seem to be based of of the PDMI standard. If the Galaxy Tab cables work, those are available from more locations and at more reasonable prices.

What i am currently using is a USB 3.0 extension cable i got off Amazon for 6 or 7 bucks if i recall correctly (bought i way back in my tf101 days). Plug one end into the charging block, plug the tfp cable into the other end. Mine snaps in snuggly and needs some force to disconnect (if you r worried about that sort of thing). Works perfectly.

[Q] Lost charger, won't pay $50 for plastic, cheap ones have bad reviews?

Anyone know where I can get a WORKING charger for the Transformer Prime that isn't $50?
Amazon has several, but the ones that are fairly priced have reviews saying that the charger disrupts the device, opens and closes apps, ruins the touchscreen, etc. If it's having problems like THAT, then something really bad is happening.
I've checked Amazon, I've checked Monoprice, and in many places even Asus's own stock charger is out of stock.
Is there anywhere to buy a Transformer Prime wall charger that's reliable and that isn't over $25 (even that is stupid expensive for some plastic and metal).
I bought a $6 cigarette one off ebay and have used it 3 times with no difficulties... other than loosing root! J/K I think if you look hard enough you will find someone who will say something bad about anything. Remember, people will take to the internet to complain far faster than they will to praise. Consider that while reading reviews.

Yes, that's true, but when you have an amazon page where a product has two stars and fifty votes, with almost every review citing that the charger interfere's with the device's power and causes it to act frantically by opening and closing apps at random, then you know there's a problem.
Also, I've had the (dis?)pleasure of owning a Nexus 7, a device where you're more likely to have problems than not. So I understand what it's like when a device simply doesn't work or has issues.

Interesting, in the pictures on that item there are "slots" in the end for the prongs to fold up?! Does anyone elses "original" prime charger have folding prongs?
I have bought many "original" "oem" items from ebay only to find they were not. They worked ok so I kept them. Once I bought a motorola slvr "OEM" replacement battery that even had the motorola hologram on it. The way you could tell it was fake was that the hologram had no depth. There was only one layer to it.
