[Q] Atrix: Frozen signal bars displayed on car bluetooth - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have this problem on two Atrix phones. They connect fine to the car (Audi S8) bluetooth but as soon as the phone screen sleeps, the signal bars displayed on the car screen don't change; they just freeze. It doesn't matter what the real signal level is, the display on the car screen stays frozen until I push the power button to wake the phone screen and it immediately shows the correct signal bars.I called Motorola support and I was transferred to level 3 and the technician told me he has an Atrix and it has the same problem and there is no known solution. He then suggested that I post this question.
Has anyone seen this or it is just me ending up with two bad phones?

Atrix: Frozen signal bars displayed on car bluetooth
Just curious, I plan to purchase the atrix, so other than the signal bar problem on your A8, can I assume the bluetooth connection works. The reason I ask is because the Atrix is not listed on the compatible phone list on the Audi USA site.

Phone lists from car manufacturers are never up to date. For instance, the Ford Sync phone compatibility lists don't show any of the newer phones either.
I'm not sure what the Audi BT stack can do, but the Atrix with my new Focus will display the address book pictures (as long as they are in the phone book and not just facebook linked), BT music, phone calls, and the MAP stuff for text messages works perfectly.

Yes it works fine, even if no signal bars are shown in the car screen and I receive a call, the phone immediately wakes up and the correct signal is shown.

Off topic but nice ridee

I have the same problem, but different car ... 2011 Subaru WRX with stock clarion head-unit. Some morning when I start the car up, my HU shows 0 bars of cell reception. Turn on the phone, and instantly it goes to full bars.
I haven't actually tried calling yet (usually too tired and already late for work to sit around and test it).
Oh, and I've got a Bell unit with official OTA update, never rooted or anything else.

[Q] Galaxy S2, Audi Car Phone via rSAP, connection drops!

Hi all,
I have a problem and maybe more experienced users might offer help:
I have successfully paired my Galaxy S2 with Audi's Bluetooth Car Phone via the rSAP (remote SIM Access Profile). I am not using the "hands-free" profile, but the full Car Phone which logs into the service provider network and disables the mobile.
When I turn on the ignition one of the following happens:
a) in 70% of all cases everything's fine
b) in 20% of all cases the connection seems to be rejected at the very start
c) in 10% of all cases the connection is terminated while the phone book is synchronized from Galaxy S2 to Audi Car Phone
b) and c) might even be manifestations of the same problem.
Using a log tool I was able to capture an error message in the phone's log: it seems that the Galaxy tries to send a data package which is not acknowledged by the Audi Car Phone. After 3 retries (ret = 3) the phone gives up frustrated and terminates the rSAP connection -> Game Over!
I have the (general) feeling that Audi's MMI Car Phone is not very responsive when just started and that due to that it might sometimes not be able to acknowledge on time. My former HTC Diamond 2 did not seem to have such a low frustration level.
Questions:
1. does anybody know a solution to this issue?
2. does anybody know how to set the number of retries to a higher value to make the Galaxy more error tolerant?
3. ...?
Help highly appreciated. One thing added: I am a newcomer to Android...
Best,
Beschinel
I thought, I'd bump this up.
Help greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Chris
Hi there! Actually I have a bigger problem than you! I have a Passat CC with btooth rsap and after requesting tge 16 digit code for the pairing, the car mfp says "Could not connect". I am really confused. galasy s 1 worked fine although sometimes it would lose the connection.
O.K. I have an update to your problem.
I tried using S G 1 again and the percentages you describe are true indeed.
However in S G 2 it would not connect at all even after a ROM change and an upgrade to 2.3.4
My second guess was the data connection. I have a data connection in my phone for 5 GB per moth.
When I disabled the data (holding the power button and selecting the appropriate option) the phone got connected immediatelly and after using it for over 1 hour with starting - stopping the car it would work perfectly with no drop connection at all!
I will observe it in the next few days and let you know how it goes.
p.s. My S G 1 worked with data connection enabled however it got all the disconnects you describe. I never tried to use it with data disabled. Not sure why data affects the btooth rsap like that. Which audio system od you have installed in your car (RNS or RCD? mine is RCD510)
OK after using S G 2 for several hours with data disabled on the phone everything works perfect and no disconnects occur whatsoever. Try disablining your mobile data mate and hopefully u will notice difference.
Dont know if it helps but I use SensatioN ROM by Crysis21 (fantastic ROM).
I have the SAME issue. I recently bought the i727R model (Samsung Galaxy S2 - LTE) and have the same problems with the phone keeping a connection to my '07 A4 RNS-e radio.
The disconnections are very random. Maybe 50% of the time the phone will reconnect...only to disconnect again. The rest of the time, the phone disconnects and will not reconnect until I power-cycle the phone.
I suspected it's a data problem right away - it seems to loose the connection when an incoming message or IM or app sends data on the network.
Unfortunately, because of this flaky connection, I've gone back to using my iPhone and given up on the SGS2-LTE. There's all sorts of issues posted on forums about the Bluetooth dropping, but ZERO solutions (or help from Samsung). I haven't tried turning the DATA connection off - and probably won't because I completely reset the phone and put it up for sale on Craigslist.

necrobump and a big +1 here for an Audi RS4 owner using Samsung S2 LTE on Rogers.
I started a thread here in case anyone has an updated solution
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1651867
FWIW, I use my SGS2 (GB 2.3.5, KI3 rom) with my A3's Bluetooth pretty frequently and have never had any problems. However, it's not MMI -- it uses HFP and rSAP.

Q: SGS2 call drops and connecting problems

Hi, I have strange problem with my SGS2. While I'm in my apartment I simply can't use it to make phone calls.
Someone calls me, I answer, either by dragging or by pressing home button (I set that option in the call setting menu). But nothing happens, ringing stops, but screen stays the same, showing that someone is calling me, and of course, it isn't connected, no voice is coming through. I can drag answer icon all day long but it won't make it connect. If caller is patient enough it will connect after 30-60 seconds after I tried to answer the call.
Second problem is that if I call someone, or it connects us after those 30-60 seconds, call will simply be dropped after 5-10 seconds.
Signal is fine, 3 or 4 bars, when I'm somewhere else I don't have these issues. Few days ago I got called while I was in underground garage in same building I live in, there were no bars on signal indicator, but phone answered immediately and it didn't drop for those 2-3 minutes I talked. But When I'm in my apartment (I live on the 4th floor, there are no large buildings blocking the signal, and anyway, phone says signal is 3-4 bars...) I'm unable to make or answer calls.
This is from the first day I bought it, at first I thought it's something with network, that they were doing something, since my old HTC Legend had no problems here, but after a month it's the same.
Do android phones have radio "part" in their software? Like older WinMo phones did? I remember my yet older HTC Artemis had so I could flash other radio versions to get better reception and battery life.
Or does someone have better idea? Because I'm all out, warranty is useless since this isn't something that happens everywhere so I can't show "them" it doesn't work...
Firmware is stock, I debranded it from t-mobile to XWKE7, kies recognizes it so I think I did that part OK. But anyway, this problem is from day one, before I reflashed it for the first time.

Thanks, I'll look if there are alternative software for baseband/modem. Hopefully that will help.

[Q] Carrying more then one phone

Looking around here, i see that plenty of people have more then one phone.
But i don't see any way to make them work together.
How possible would it be to make them connect with wifi / bluetooth?
Have them both ring when a phone-call comes in and make it not matter which you pick up?
Stay connected to the internet on both phones when one loses signal? (living on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands, when one has internet, the other one probably doesn't)
Share audio with 1 Bluetooth headset?
Do you know a way to make any of these happen?

You could pair the two devices together using Bluetooth but that would be for transferring files and other stuff I suppose. I don't think it's possible to have them both ring when a phone-call comes in and have it not matter which phone you answer. To get internet on both phones most people tether phone A's internet connection and create a wireless hotspot and then connect phone B to the hotspot. But if one looses signal then other one would loose internet signal as well, if there is no signal in an area there is no signal, and both devices will be without service. And what do you mean by share audio with 1 Bluetooth headset? You could pair both devices with the same Bluetooth headset if that's what your talking about (For example phone A is paired with Bluetooth headset A and phone B is paired with Bluetooth headset A also).

The problem is that i live on the border between 2 country's, so if i'm in Belgium, i have to set my Belgian phone to tether wifi, my dutch phone to connect to it, and a few hours later il be in the Netherlands and i need to tether my Belgian phone to my dutch one. If i forget to disconnect it, and i leave the country, both phones will not have internet. Then i am home, and i have to select my home wifi. I cross the border 2 or 4 times a day. Doing it manually is a pain.
Both my phones are paired to my headset, but that old thing only connects with one phone at the time.could fix it by buying a new one. But i like the sound of the one i have now.
But correct my if i'm wrong, but the hardware should be capable of much better cooperation between phones. I just can't find software to do stuff. is there any?

That wouldn't work. I would have to give all my friends and contacts a US phone number. They wouldn't ever call me.
But i did figure out a way to properly share internet. Tasker!
While (not roaming) and (not at home(check with gps? Bluetooth of computer in range? certain cell tower? other?)) and (other phone nearby (check with Bluetooth)) tether internet.
Else, connect to wifi.
I guess i have some scripting to do and i should buy a new headset. That way i can answer both phones with the same Bluetooth headset, and share internet.
What is more battery efficient? Bluetooth or WiFi tethering?

[Q] Constant Switching Between 4G LTE and 3G

Hi all,
This question might have been posted already seeing as this phone is about a year old already. I'm running the STOCK ICS ROM OTA 4.0.4 unrooted. I've noticed that after the update my phone keeps switching from 4G to 3G and back but the problem is so bad that I lose every bar of signal (i.e. empty bars and of course no data) for at least a minute when the phone switches. I've already gone through the process of getting a replacement phone and I will need another because the receiver (speaker inside when I make a phone call, not sure what its really called) sounds awfully tinny and when the hang up tone plays the speaker sounds like its about to blow out. I lowered the in call volume to half, but it still doesn't work and my phone sounds tinny when ever someone talks during a phone call. I never had that problem with my old RAZR. As for the data issue, I am aware that I live in an old building because at the most I get between 3-4 bars of 4G LTE but sometimes as low as 2 bars. However, outside on the street I get full bars of 4G LTE and it still switches back to 3G on it's own. I have tried Motorola's restore connectivity app on the play store but that didn't work and I don't have anything like smart actions or LTE on/off app running on my phone.
Is anybody else having these issues? At first I thought Verizon sucks in my house but it doesn't I still get crystal clear sound on calls and text messages are promptly sent and received. I also, of course, live in a 4G LTE area with good solid coverage. As a control I have an iPad 4G LTE with Verizon on a separate account and it consistently stays connected to LTE. It never drops below 2 bars and the LTE of course maintains its fast speed. On the other hand, the RAZR, will switch between both technologies at least 5 times a day if not more. I know that they both have different radio technologies but they should at least be similar in some respect. I have also seen an iPhone 5 at the Verizon Corportate kiosk at my local mall. It's obvious there are repeaters but they are not for 4G because none of the phones are on 4G, they are on 3G. The iPhone 5, however, had one bar of LTE and it loaded up a web page just fine and I never saw it drop back down to 3G. I'm trying to see if there is a solution. Have any of the Jellybean ROMs addressed this issue?

WiFi Connection While At Work?

Here is why I bought my watch (primarily):
I'd like to be able to leave my Note 4 on my desk while I am working elsewhere in the building.....and I often find myself out of bluetooth range. I have searched around a lot and I cannot see if the wifi connection works the same as a Bluetooth connection, only with greater range. I do not currently have a sim card in the watch, and even if I decide to get one later, I dont really want it used if im only a few feet away from the edge of bluetooth range lol. I have read a lot about turning wifi off because it can interfere with remote (3g) connection but that isn't my issue (no sim card to interfere with). I just want to see if the wifi connection will work the same as bluetooth, only with greater range (same building, same network, just further away from my desk). Thanks.
Otherwise, LOVING the phone! Cant wait to try it out when Im back to work in January!

Yes your calls(Call forwarding and messages should work) your app updates will have to wait until your connected to bluetooth again
Thanks again!
Works for me too. I can be across town at the gym and it finds my phone at home as long as the watch is connected to wifi. Or data.
