hey... i have bought the phone recently.... im using "advanced task killer" to kill applications but it starts after few minutes.... is there some good solution for this problem....
also.... can you tell me after purchasig the phone how much internal memory and sd card memory you got... which applictions where pre installed.. etc.....
Do NOT use task killers...
then what to do.... ??? applications run on the background..... eats ram..... what you do...???? plz.. give some tips.....

Task killers are temporary. They will just kill and the task runs again. The best sol. is using a Custom rom

Nothing. RAM is there to be used. Plus the background tasks except for system consume about zero CPU and power. This is not iPhone.
If you insist on using "something", go download Watchdog Lite, configure the threshold to 80% or more, polling to 1 minute. It will notify you if some task starts to eat your CPU consistently.

Android is not Windows or iOS... Android is linux-like so it's not important if there are 200 or 20 MB of RAM free, it won't be slower... Apps remain opened to download notifications or just to be faster when you will re-open them...

You don't need task killer

Alright so I've been doing a little 'installing & un-installing' over the past few days and slowly but surely my phones memory is going down and down, it's running at 28(average) at the minute, Advanced Task Killer, is closing my applications after I've finished but the memory isn't building back up, any ideas why?
The default Status app on this device should give you a basic idea of what's running and what's not, but that is on a battery perspective. Try this.... I'm using an app called TaskControl and it does it a pretty decent job, but mainly opening the app shows you a long list of everything that is running off the memory on the device. Might help.
P.S.: I was showing about 29Mb Free a moment ago and I just manually triggered an app purge from TaskControl. It cleared things up and now I'm showing a steady 52Mb for the last few minutes and I'm refreshing the screen and watching every minute or so. Hope this helps
PERFECT! Advanced Task Killer hasn't got sh*t on Task Control, got my phone running with 99M now, never seen it that high with Advanced Task Killer, thanks for the heads up!
You could also try memory booster lite that frees wasted ram up I usually have between 80-100mb free

but for how-long?!?!
it boosted mine up to 90mb but only for about 20 secs... then i got down to 50 again.
i use advanced task killer... i can choose what i wanna kill. im always around 50 or 60MB ...
Lee-Riley didn't you kill all your tasks now...??? when u up to 90?? mine goes up there when i kill everything...
Yeah I killed everything, it maxes out about 101MB but normally sits at about 90-98MB pretty happy with that! K.D.M. answer the questions about your setup on my other thread please =D
Which is better/necessary for maintaining max speed and free memory?
neither, you do not need any type of task killer with android. why do people insist on using these apps.

You forgot a question mark.
The stock JI6 task manager and a shortcut to "running services". This will show you EXACTLY what's RUNNING on your phone. Key word is running!

Well I don't know why the task related apps exist. If they didn't exist I wouldn't be asking the question.
the one with the JI6 is very useful for me.

Some devs are stuck with the Windows Mobile mentality that Android requires task managers. Android will free the memory as needed, all you need is the stock J16 task manager if you'd like to close the occasional/accidentally left open app.
You guys are doing a very poor job of answering his question and most of it is misinformation.
Auto Killer is NOT a task killer. It is a memory optimizer. It basically uses the same system that is built into Android and modifies the intervals at which it clears memory. It does not kill tasks unless you specify it to.
For instance, default Vibrant is set to start freeing RAM from "empty" apps at 63 MB of RAM left. Empty apps are apps that have been sitting for awhile, not using cpu and not being used but are stored in RAM. You could see why these apps would be the first to go. Well, with Auto Killer, I can change the threshold to 98 MB so when it drops below that, the Android system frees up RAM from the apps that aren't being used.
Auto Killer is nowhere near the same as a task killer or task manager and it actually benefits your system greatly because it just modifies Android memory management system.
Again, the default Android system ALREADY starts clearing RAM automatically at 63 MB left meaning you will always have at least 63 MB of RAM unless you are using tons of apps at once, since they would all be active and Android will not free RAM from active apps unless you are critically low on memory. I'm talking less than 10MB. I like to have at least 98 MB left though so Auto Killer modifies that. Auto Killer does not modify the way Android handles apps, you just tell it the thresholds and then Android does its thing.

Awesome! Thanks so much for being thorough, I'm kinda new. One more quick question, since auto killer seems to be the best way to manage free memory, do I need to remove the task manager if I plan on using auto killer?
Yes. I use just auto killer. No task killer or anything. If I do need to close an app that is frozen or something, I just use the task manager built-in with JI6. Otherwise, just pressing the back button in 99% of all apps will properly close it.

The built in task manager is the one I was referring to. The one that came included with fusion 1.1. So you currently have both auto killer and task manager on your phone? Forgive me for the confusion
Yes, but like I said, I only use it when I really need to close something which isn't that often. Like if a game I am playing freezes. When I am done with an app, just press the back button and it will close. Try it.
Open an app, press home then look in the task manager. It will be there.
Open the same app, press back, open the task manager and it won't. So using the task manager is like just for emergencies if the app won't close properly.
Thanks alot man
When i use my advanced task killer it says i have around 350M memory left i was wondering if that is low for the phone and if it is can someone tell me how to raise it?

You don't need to have any more than that. Also, it is not good to use any task killer on Froyo. The system does it for you. It takes the same amount of energy for Android to hold empty RAM as it does to leave it allocated to an application. It is recommended that the RAM is used up, that way processes run faster and it uses less energy to open applications. Stop using task killers on Froyo. The only time it is necessary is if an app has gone haywire and it needs to be shutdown. I use SystemPanel to exclude certain apps from ever being "killed".

The OS e.g. Android and Touchwiz use up about 100mb RAM for itself leaving only 300-400mb for the user. My HTC Desire S has 768mb but really i can only use 623mb hope this helps.

Is there a way to install a mod to free up some of the RAM the OS uses? Or a lighter android that doesn't use quite as much?

I would recommend a 3rd party launcher like ADW Launcher on Android market very light weight, also a app like memory booster which frees RAM. Their are no such mods to change the file system usage as changing the amount of RAM the system needs could result in a unstable device. I have a Galaxy wifi 5.0 with 512mb RAM and the 200mb left is enough for me without lag etc. hope this helps
I recommend using Advanced Task Killer. It has a very easy interface, and frees up ram quickly.
What does it say for ram on the player.... I have seen 377... and 345.
I have 345 and Im pretty pissed about it.
I have 342mb of RAM available. But I heard that around 100+ mb are dedicated to the gpu on the galaxy s phone, and the galaxy player has the same hardware so should be the same. So I think it still has 512mb of ram, but just 342 is usable by Android.
Have a look at the output of dmesg (e.g. run the following in a terminal and copy the resultant file to your PC to view: dmesg > dmesg_output.txt) and it tells you how much memory you have and how much has been set aside. Note you will probably want to reboot before you do this as otherwise the interesting messages have scrolled out of the kernel message buffer.
I've been using an app called Fast Reboot Pro. It appears to simply close processes that are running in the background. It then shows you how much memory was was freed. I hit every so often and especially when things appear to lag. Seem to work pretty well.

Gingerbread/Samsung has it's own task manager which in turn has it's own widget which does this. No need to install an app for this
I to use fast reboot, find it much more effective than what the player comes with. I also use ram manager pro witch is a very good tool to set different ram profiles, I like "balance (more free memory)" the best. I first select my profile, then I run fast reboot, very effective! The more you run fast reboot, the more memory it frees up, witch is great for big games like asphalt 6. Also, I use zeam launcher, very lightweight, perhaps the lightest, but still a great improvement over touchwiz. Another thing, NO LIVE WALLPAPERS is an absolute necessary! These things eat WAY more ram than they say on taskmanager. THEY CAN EAT 50+ MB OF RAM!! Also, services like widgetlockscreen and such will eat your ram. If you want to play a heavy game, go to running services and kill as many as you can, you can also clear cached apps by hitting the menu button in running services. Hope these tips help you to make the most of our small supply of ram!
Hmm, after more testing, it would appear that wifi burns around 25mb of ram when on! So, if your really short on ram, just turn on airplane mode to kill all antennas. I just played modern combat 3 with 25mb free ram throughout the whole level I had 190mb free originally, that game sure eats the stuff :s The CPU rides at 1000mhz through the whole game, lol, could always use some more of that stuff! That's what oc is for
It always happens that crashes and errors in the system and slow performance are the problems occurred because of the full or nearly full memory. Issue of memory overload the Smartphones are not immune. It can be avoided, if you know how to maintain phone’s storage space. If your phone has large memory then it will run very smoothly.
For performance of the phone to improve you can delete the cache from time to time which in turn will lead to the better performance of the phone. It can be done by using an application Apps2SD which clears both your cache and histories which are not necessary after some time. By clearing cache it frees up the internal space which there by leads to improved performance in the phone.
1.Try turn OFF (a)Sync(b)Wifi(c)GPS by this a constant process will be stopped and which will also improve your battery life and there by making it more use able, bcoz apps like gmail, contacts, maps constantly updates.
2.Uninstall apps which u don't prefer using. Further checking apps which eat more ram is to look in setting/apps/running and try freezing them.
3.Install task manager which provide operation of auto killing of apps in between time interval.
My Config ROM: FXP149-CM10
Kernel : flykernel 0.7a
launcher : ilauncher 2.2.1
Hope this Helps.
what task manager are you using?
it may helpful for some beginner
but i dont think it helps a lot......
just try Ram manager.
if it useful u can buy full version with more flexible option.
It's work for me.

Advanced Task Manager Pro 2.1.5
1. Enable auto kill
2. Enable Regular set frequency to 10min
3. Startup kill
make sure not enabling system wide apps in the list
Free RAM is nothing but wasted RAM. Oh please, android works totally different from your Windows PC.
You can get performance by removing/freezing Unwanted apps, bloatware etc.
Using a Task Manager/Killer may give you a slow performance while Gaming etc.
You should not use a taskmanager, it juse makes your phone slower.

Ok taskmanager are memory hog when coupled with lot of background services eg: widget on screen, social syncing etc.
But if you have organized set of application install with active task managers, it helps solves unecessary lags.
I have 200mb RAM available most of the time ... Installed 40+ apps packages other the default.
Frequently play games like Asphalt 7, Dead Trigger, ShadowGun DeadZone, Real football, Real Racing, GT Racing, CS Portable.

yes exactly, at the beginning i also tried to use taskmanager, but then i google Android RAM and found guides who say the same. and it seem logic for me. so just let it be. no need to use such apps
and custom roms can drain battery more fast,so dont wonder.
first you should check your mobile and wifi signals and stuff like that.

Thats not really true, taskmanagers doesn't make your phone faster, and free ram is not necessarily good, android manages the ram in another way than for an example Windows. Android kills or puts processes in a kind of freezed mode instead of leaving them running all the time, and when a app needs more ram, android will automatically kill apps so that you can play games and so on.
If you want more free ram, you should use Supercharger or Ram Manager Pro instead, because their alot better than using a taskmanager.
Read this article about it:

Switching off wifi and gps when not in use is just a godamn basic when you use a smartphone, i don't even see the point of opening a topic to say that. Are there still people keeping everything on all the time ?
Task managers are not required since 4.0 at least, if not 2.3 if i remember right. Free ram is useless on Android, i never got this obsession about having free Ram. Many 4.1 and 4.2 custom roms leave less free ram than the official 4.0 and are still way smoother and fast.
This topic is complete bul****, and i'm not even a developer knowing that.
This thread should be moved to /dev/null , because its nothing new in it, and there is alot better tutorials on how to optimize your Xperia Ray.
dont use task managers or killers. Because there is battery drain.

No need care about number of apps installed:fingers-crossed:
swap ram expander
Adding swap ram (no need for much, 300 to 500 mb is ok) makes such a difference. Since I've started using it, I can multitask and I don't get the big slowdowns I was used to. No blank screen when returing to the launcher or horrible wait times under Chrome. From my experience, Android phones with 512mb of ram generally struggle a lot because they always have to erase and reload ram pages so they don't exceed it. I have a class 10 32gb sd card btw.
