If it's booting to recovery and not dl mode, you've done it wrong.
Make sure it's only vol + and vol - and then USB.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

nope i am doing it over and over it just goes to a cwm screen and says waiting for usb to mount

As it says in op on front page!!! make sure u can get into dl mode before flashing cm7! Could u get into dl mode before??? keep trying and if it doesnt work maybe a usb jig would work.

ill get one of those usb jigs lol but yes i could get into dl mode before

Okay so i ditched the stock rom for axura 1.0 and am using it...but i changed my mind and want to go back to stock...but never made a backup of my stock rom in clockwork like a moron. Now i tried Odin and here is the weird part it detects my phone in recovery mode...but not download mode so now im stuck trying to get back to stock vibrant 2.1...any suggestions?
Thank You
Start odin first, then hold the volume keys, then insert the usb cable
This always works for me when odin doesn't detect my phone

This is the easiest way. Download Terminal from Market and enter SU (gives you root access) and then type reboot download
Your phone will reboot into Download mode
i tried the su reboot download and it didnt detect it and i reinstalled the drvers too no luck cuz it says usb device not reconized when in download mode but when in recovery or normal mode it is detected no issue
Here's how I do it if everything else fails. Have ODIN v1.3 opened up first. Next, make sure phone is in debug mode and make sure its checked . Next, while phone still connected to pc, remove back cover and pull battery out. Before inserting the battery back in, hold the phone side ways while pressing the volume up/down at the same time now insert the battery. Your screen should now display yellow big letters -
Download Mode - Do not turn off target.

Read the Vibrant Bible here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111 . Read the top 2 sections --Useful links and Odin.
By the way, is your phone rooted?
Have you tried using a different USB port? Sometimes that helps.
yes the phone is rooted and i tried using odin v1.0 and 1.7 ill try 1.3 idk if it makes a difference
One method I've read on the boards is to flash "Eugene's froyo that doesnt' Brick". Of course that is an Odin file so...we need to get Odin working for you. Like icandy said, try a different USB port and see if that works. If nothing else also post in Master's Axura thread and ask him/her what the best method of downgrading to 2.1 is. I'm not sure if you'd have to flash Eugene's Kernel Back Support or not. I know this isn't too helpful but hopefully it'll give you a few ideas.

My vibrant got bricked ! can`t access to recovery mode

Image that you have a hardware locked vibrant and bricked !!
all the methods that was discussed about getting locked vibrant into recovery mode or even download mode has failed except the adb method which successfully got me to the download mode , I uploaded customized ROM and PIT in odin and that`s all the phone can`t be started not even showing battery bar or recognized by my laptop ..
does that mean it`s dead ??would it be covered by Samsung warranty ...
thanks in advance
as long as you can get to download mode it's never dead.. why would you flash a custom ROM immediately? try flashing a stock pit and tar 1st.. then once your recovered go to custom ROM
yea but my vibrant can`t be detected by PC so adb method wouldn`t work ....
I may try making a homemade JIG hoping it to force download mode ..
I know you said you try everything, but just incase, did you try turning on odin with stock pit and tar in, then plug in the usb, with the battery out. hold down volume + and - and then plug in the battery? Should bring you to "download mode" hit start. It work all the time for me. Sorry if you did try it, but it was just incase you havn't.

Ok....
1. Remove the battery and put it back in to make sure its off
2. Hold both Volume buttons while powering on the phone
3. You should go into recovery mode
If not then you gotta Odin your way out.
i can only get to download mode.... no recovery mode!

Well you could use a JIG to get into download mode, but you need a functioning USB connection to use Odin....can you use another PC?
Well I dont really need I think the JIG because with buttons combinations I get on download mode!
ODIN is not an option because my phones usb port I think is ruined.... I connect it to my pc and it only shows as USB Device not Recognized.
If I could fix my phones usb port I could ODIN it....
Now I think theres a combination for recovery mode but I cant get to recovery mode...

OK i misread....i thought your PC's USB ports were messed up....so you can get into Download mode but not CWM Recovery??...usually its the other way around...i'll do some searchin for you
Have you installed the drivers on your pc? May want to, it should recognize the phone for odin then.
drivers are installed and everything but i cant make my pc to recognize my device!
Do you know how to get to recovery mode?

press and hold up and down volume rocker while holding down power button at the same time, wait until you get to first splash screen then release, this should get you into recovery mode.
"THE FACTS
1. Voodoo recovery is included with the kernel, however you can not see it on your phone. However, you can install the program android screencast and view recovery on your computer.
2. Is OK to install coming from a Voodoo enabled rom.
3. If coming from a clean JFD install, you may or may not hear Linda's voice. You will sit at the double rainbow for about 5 minutes before it boots. It is converting to ext so do NOT do a battery pull!
4. ONLY THE KERNEL PROVIDED WILL WORK!!! DO NOT FLASH ANY OTHER 2.2 KERNELS!!!!
5. This comes pre-rooted!
6. Includes KB1 Modem
7. Only REAL issue at present is the GPS does not work."
OMFG Im lost i think i would never boot this device unless I fix the usb port!
please someone help me!!!
How do you know the usb port is damaged? I suggest attempting to use other usb ports on your computer
It sounds like you flashed the gingerbread double rainbow rom if iI remember correctly the only way back to stock or other roms is to use odin
You are able to get into download mode which is a plus but you need to exhaust all possible resources in checking your usb port is ok, maybe you just need a new cable but I find that unlikely as you have to use the usb to charge your phone but in either case its worth a shot.
Sent from my AXURA powered voodoo infused Categorically Worthless Vibrant
It seems that I cant see nothing in recovery mode..... I finally booted the phone to rainbow....
Not a really stable gingerbread build... Now i want to go back to 2.2.1 but cant because I cant see nothing on recovery mode... If someone could use screencast to show how is the recovery menu displayed I could flash back to 2.2.1.....
Shreddintyres:its not the cable nor the pc usb ports.... Its the phone usb port theres no other possibility

[Q] CM7 Error or user error?

i Have a Samsung Vibrant Rooted with cm7 installed. But i went to flash to a new rom and now Clockworkmod gives me an error of cant mount sd card.Any ideas
u wil need to odin back to stock and when u do make sure u check re-partition if ur coming back from cm7! When ur back at stock and u still have the same problem let us know?
if u have problems getting into dl mode from there:
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
OK i have Tried ODIN.... Is clockwork recovery the same as download mode? and if not what am i missing? :more details: I can mount the internal sd to the computer from clockwork but clockwork wont mount the sd to the phone. I downloaded Kies mini and installed drivers for the vibrant. I have odin and the tar and pit files. i have the android sdk also... any help is greatly needed. Thanks.
turn on odin and hook up ur phone to ur pc with usb cable and then go into download mode. U should see a yellow icon saying com if it is yellow then ur phone has been recognized. Then put the pitfile in pit and the tar file with pda and then click start. Give it like 5 to 10 min and then it will restart and u will be back at stock!
download mode is the android guy with a yellow triangle
to go into download mode:
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers

After using odin i get to system recovery 2e. but the phone will not boot, it passes the sgs screen but then black screen, the buttons on the bottom still act responsive. I was on CM7 could this be the issue?
the same problem
i'm on CM7 19
Go back a few builds (CM7)...it is a known bug.
*hint--read the comments on the nightlies before flashing.

[Q] [SOLVED] Odin wont recognize my device unless it is powered on?

I am running stock 2.1 Eclair. My kernel is JFD. I am rooted. Please help.
You can put your phone in download mode, then you can use Odin. Make sure your phone is off, then press the volume button + and - at the same time, connect your phone via usb, then your phone should be in download mode and Odin should recognize your phone.
with your Girlfriend? Tech info please...
Haha I know that.
I may be misunderstanding the whole point of this thread, but WHY would Odin, or the PC, or any other Earthly technology recognize your device if it was powered OFF?
You want a connection it better have juice.
I meant in download mode sorry... lol

Yes, you must be in download mode. That's the phone state Odin uses to communicate with your device.
With all sincerity, there many, many guides that I would check, These threads are difficult,if we dont know your problem, level of expertise, or intentions,...good peeps that can help.
Alright... Thanks anyway guys, I appreciate it.
Any ideas where to check for help?
Here is fine, I think we are all confused. I thought the question was: Does my phone need to be in Download Mode to be recognized by Odin?
The answer to that is: yes.
Is there another question? This is the right place, fire away friend.
whats going on i guess its not working for you yet i see ....what is it that you are trying to do you lost me now lol.....if your rooted mate then you should have the update.zip file to install CWM recovery on your SD then install ROM manager search around for it people say its not in the play store but its all the way at the bottom if you search ROOT install the app and follow the onscreen to install the recovery mod and then you should be good to go on flashing turn your phone off and and hold all 3 buttons to turn it back on as soon as you see the logo pop up let go of the power button and you should be in your recovery then install zip from SD send PM if your lost
Haha sorry for not making that clear. I went into download mode and it didn't recognize it. I knew it had to be in download mode. I ended up restarting my computer and plugged it into a USB 3.0 instead of a 2.0 port and it worked just fine... Thanks anyways for trying to help.
Haha thanks I had CWM installed, I just needed to restart my PC and plug the cable into a USB 3.0 instead of a 2.0...
