[Q] Black screen after boot up - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently upgraded to the new MR2 radio and GingerBAMF 20-5. For some reason, I forgot to put pg05img.zip in a different folder after I installed it. It had been working fine for a few days, but when I tried to install a kernel through RomManager, it started to go downhill. This was my first time attempting to install a kernel. I had "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and "Backup Rom" selected. After installing the kernel, the phone started up with the HTC logo as usual, but it just went to a black screen afterwards. I've tried going into recovery, but it automatically asks me to update to the new radio. The only way I can access other features in recovery is to remove the SD card. Is there any way I can fix this?

1. Remove sd card from phone
2. Put sd card in computer sd card reader
3. Erase PG05IMG.zip from sd card
4. Put sd card back in phone
5. Turn on phone

You could also put the sd card in a friends phone and then use a usb cable to access it like a flash drive and erase the file... That's happened to me on a few occasions now.

Thank you, I'll try those out.

Yup, it works. My tb works again. Thanks again.

[Q] Cant mount sd card to phone. Need help PLEASE

I am rooting my daughters Droid Eris. I used the app from the market and flashed Cyanogen 7. Everything went well until I tried to start restoring her apps and found that the phone is saying there is no sd card. When I go into setting to mount it it is greyed out and wont do anything. the gallery and rom manager also say there is no sd card. the card I am using is not partitioned. I tried taking a partitioned sd out of my old Cliq and putting it in and then it says it has a unsupported system or something like that but I did notice that the mount sd in settings was no longer greyed out. If I reboot into recovery it will recognize the card because it lists what is on it. I have searched everything I can find and cant find any answers. Oh, also, when I plug in the usb to the computer it does nothing then either. Any Ideas??
Go into recovery since her phone can read the card from there and reformat the card. You may also want to wipe data and dalvik and reflash the rom to be on the safe side.
Make sure that you backup anything currently on the SD card before formatting it, which you can do from the usb-ms toggle option in recovery. You will need to copy the rom file back to the phone after formatting the card which can be done from this option as well.
There should be an android.secured folder on the SD card. Delete that. You don't want it on there so make sure you don't copy it back to the card (it will come back after the first boot and it can then be left alone, I like to delete mine before each flash though to avoid possible problems.)
EDIT - DONT FORGET TO FLASH GAPPS RIGHT AFTER FLASH THE ROM! ALL CM7 ROMS REQUIRE THIS!
Let me know if you have any problems

Totally of the topic BUT I'm Selling a fully rooted Droid Eris running CM7 port ROM for $90...interested PM me.

[Q] Help Please!!!

I posted this question in the general forum but now I am posting it here because I think this is probably the more appropriate forum. So I am a noob and I may not know enough to be rooted, but I love the custom ROM's they work so much better than stock. Anyway, I started using the new Theory of Ginger Candy ROM and all was going well, until I downloaded the power options download that lets you restart into recovery from the power options. I downloaded it and then rebooted into recovery using ROM manager then I installed the .zip file for the advanced power options. Then, I rebooted and it freezes up at the lightning bolt. I let it sit on there for 20 min thinking maybe it was just going to take a long time then I did a battery pull and rebooted and got stuck again at the lightning bolt. Next I tried to pull the battery and then reboot into recovery by holding the volume down key and power key at the same time. This reboots into bootloader and automatically runs bootloader and then it asks if I want to update. How can I stop it from running bootloader automatically and then be able to scroll down into recovery? Or do I just flash the Radio again and will that take me back to a stock ROM that is with the radio, and then I can restore my backup I made before installing this advance power option .zip. Thanks for your help guys!

Uh... Yep! I think that we've found the problem! Ha!
If you don't have a SD card reader there is a trick over in the General forum for how to get around that!
Thanks for you help everyone. I now know to delete the PGOIMG file from my sd card promptly after flashing a radio. I couldn't find the way around not having an sd card reader but I did find a way around it. I did make a back-up but I couldn't log into CWM recovery with the PGOIMG file on my SD card, and I didn't have a microsd card reader or anyway to plug the sd card into my computer to get the file off, so I found a tricky little way to do it. I pulled the SD card just barley out and held the battery in at an angle so that it didn't push the sd card back in. Then with the sd card out I was able to get into recovery. Then came the tricky part of getting the sd card back in without loosing a conection with the battery. I ended up using a bent paper clip to push the sd card into place. After a few attempts I was able to get the sd card in place and the battery back in place while staying in cwm. The next problem was that it sitll wouldn't recognize my sd card. I went into mounts and tried to unmount and remount the sd card with no luck, but then I noticed in the advanced options there is the option to reboot recovery. This allowed me to reboot back into recovery and then it saw my sd card. So after all that I was able to restore my back-up version of B1.7. I now promptly remove the PGOIMG file after flashing a radio.

[Q] Rooted Motorola Triumph Recovery help!?!?

I rooted my Motorola Triumph and did a LOT of customization to it and ended up needing to go ahead and put the stock ROM back on it. Somehow in doing this, my phone isn't working and I'm not sure what to do at this point. I got almost to where I was going to recover and restart, but I got this code:
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!
I downloaded Eclipse and got everything I need (I think..) including SDK and ADB stuff
I tried mounting my phone to my computer via the CWM boot menu, but that isn't working and I'm just not sure where to go from here...
HELP PLEASE!?
1. Place the rom on your SD card via the card reader on your PC
2. Re-insert it in the device
3. Boot into recovery
4. Do a full wipe of data and cache
5. Flash.
Is there another option if I don't have a card reader?

You have to be able to place the rom on your SD card. You could place the SD card in another device to transfer it from your PC then re-insert it in your phone (just use any way you possible to place the rom on the SD card).

need help please, won't boot past HTC logo

well, i hope someone here will be able to assist me... having troubles.
I was previously running SHIFT A0SP without any issues and figured I would give Gingeritis 3D a shot since I've been using the same rom for a while.
Well, I downloaded the ROM zip, confirmed the MD5 and then flashed (after wiping everything). After reboot, it just sits loading on the white HTC screen and then reboots itself after a while.
Any thoughts? I tried holding down the volume rocker and the power key to get to the HBOOT screen so I could install a backup etc. However, there must be a recent radio on my SD card which is auto asking to install. Any way to get the HBOOT screen so I can actually use it w/ the PG05IMG.zip on the SD card?
I don't have any external drive to read the SD card etc. to delete that zip.
Thanks

Do you have an old phone you can put the sd card into and delete it via your computer?

i don't :/
I also tried removing the SD card and booting to the HBOOT menu. This allows the menu to come up and use it. However, I cannot pull the battery (even with the phone plugged in) to put the SD card back in... I saw this done on a youtube video, but it doesn't work... My phone powers off if I pull the battery.
Still stuck...

Best thing I can recommend is to borrow a phone with an sd card and use it to access your card. You won't even need a computer. If its android, just download any file manager from the app store. Find the PG05IMG file and rename it or delete it.
Presto. You're fixed. Now just download another Rom or reload another Rom on your sd card.

I'm back. I was able to trick with the SD card and battery to get into the HBOOT menu without it auto loading the radio.
To share, since it could help others in the future... What I basically did, and took a lot of trial and error, was seating the SD card about 85% into the slot, so not enough for it to be recognized. Then, hold the battery on a slightly angle, enough for the contacts to touch, but not enough to push the SD card all the way into the slot. That's the tricky part. Once you get to the HBOOT menu, very carefully navigate to restore, after the reboot, push the battery all the way in and it will also push the SD card fully into the slot.
Now, you can recover backup.
Took a lot of tries as I kept losing the battery connection and it powered off or the SD card made contact and loaded the radio. It worked though as I did not have access to another phone.
Hope this may help someone else in the future.

I had this problem too, and i freaked out! Dont worry, its all good! What happened is that you flashed it incorrectly. I dont know what i did wrong, i dont know what you did wrong, it doesnt matter. Anyway, you wiped your phone and now its trying to reboot but there isnt an Operating system on the phone, so it wont get passed the splash screen. Simply boot back into recovery and flash the gingeritis rom again. Reboot, and you should be all set! Good luck!

SD Card Issues but only on new ROM

The problem: SD card is not recognized when flashing new roms that have been released the month of Feb 2013. Running the Venom Rom, or even the older NillsP roms, the SD card works fine
Here is my setup
- Rooted, HTC unlocked, S-ON, Gingerbread+patch Firmware
Here is what I have tried
- Running the new "wipe tool 5times wipe" , flashing the EclipticRez rom
- I log into the phone, go to settings, storage, click MOUNT SD card, and it says "preparing sd card" but never finishes
- Restarted the phone, back to settings, storage, mount sd card was still there.... clicked it .. no dice
- I then shut the power off, removed the SD card put in a spare 8 GB, settings, storage, mount, and even tried format.. that all failed
- I then... restored the old Venom Rom, and POOF SD card shows up and works....
- I even tried the new viral rom, and the sd card will not work there too...
- I have tried, wiping the rom again, reinstalling the EclipticRez with a different kernal, no dice...
You should get off gingerbread firmware. That sounds like its the problem.

where does one get the most current firmware
I thought that the firmware was the problem, but just wanted to ask everyone what they thought.... I have been digging around and can not seem to find where the firmware is posted. I am not sure which version to use for the new roms. Is it the ICS firmware? If so, do you have the link?
The latest (Global leak) version can be found here. http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390034591667978440. Since your s-on, you might have to relock then flash RUU. Unlock again. Install custom recovery. Then flash a rom. It is a lengthy process.
But since you are s-on. I would recommend flashing this one. http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...cream-sandwich-ruu-for-final-ota-3-14-605-12/
Just a tip, delete the recovery.img from the RUU zip file and then run it. That way it won't overwrite your custom recovery

did you ever try RUU'ing back to stock and starting over again? Did that fix the problem?
My phone just stopped mounting my sdcard on any rom.
I've wiped, tried scott's 5x wipe tool, and both roms I tried will not work. it says "insert SD card" but it's already in. I can get it to say "Damaged sdcard" too, and tried formatting, but that didn't work.
So I'm now downloading the latest RUU [ http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ ] it says 10 minutes left on the download..This will be my first time ever going back to stock on my rez. But I surely hope this will fix it. But does anyone have any other suggestion before I go back to stock?
edit: ok. I had the RUU downloaded, and was about to flash it, when I realized my sdcard in an external reader seemed to be acting funny. When I was searching for a file with "find" [lists all the files in subdirs] it would always error out and I would have to pull it out and put it back in the reader again.
So I tried formatting My sdcard again [I just did it a few days ago because I kept losing files to LOST.DIR, thought a reformat was in order]. So I did that again, used gparted in Ubuntu to format my sdcard fat32 again. I put it in the phone and booted it up, and I got no errors! yay. I'm glad I didn't restore it to stock. all is well.
