Hello to y'all.
I got my new S2 yesterday replacing my tired iphone 3.
I am very impressed.
I am downloading ripped DVDs to it and have a question.
I am using rip it for me, DVD decrypter and DVD shrink to rip DVD
Then using any video converter to convert to MP4.
So far so good (not bad for an old bloke)
when I have finished the above there are 5 seperate files in the completed folder.
Try as I might I can not change that
I transfer them over to the phone using kies air and then there are 5 seperate parts to the movie.
It plays ok but is there any way I can get them all into one file/folder for ease of use.
Oh and while I think about it, is there an easier way to do it?
Bearing in mind I am a tight fisted northerner and like free programmes.
Thanks awfully
Or you could just move the entire 720p/divx/xvid movie to the phone and play it without converting it since the SGS2 supports pretty much every format
Wow, so many programs for ripping a dvd and converting. There should be enough on video-help.com that can do it all in one.

rip and convert can finish with one tool, basd on your situation, i recommend you fox real DVD ripper, with its "merge into one file" function, you can join the seperate files together, but it's shareware, you can try the free version, but there is an icon in the centre of the result video.
i once used handbrake, it a free dvd tool, but it can't merge all files in one and i can't smoothly to use, finally, i take some money to buy the foxreal's, everything is gone well

Thats what I do. 32gig micro SD card stores pretty much everything and if the built in video player doesn't support the file type then the free MoboPlayer does
thank you all.
I tried to put the original file in but when I clicked upload from kies and went to the file there was nothiong in it.
Any suggestions?
the vidoes are saved as .VOB?
does that mean anthing to you?
Guessing all the parts of the video are the same size and resolution, a simple video joiner (or merger) should do the trick.
Here is a free one that seems to work:

Thanks am downloading the joiner programme now.
After some research on the old tinternet i realise that VOB is just another video format nut SG2 doesnt play it.
I have tried a few programmes that will rip the dvd to MP4 so avoiding the palava, but most of them wont rip protected DVD's.
I do find DVD dycrypter working alongside ripitforme the best at bypassing protection.
I have tried handbrake, it is indeed very good but oh so slow.
Does anyone else have any other suggestion for ripping tool that is quick and good at getting past protection all in one.

It can be annoying when you want to rip your own purchased DVDs and watch them on-the-go on a phone or tablet, but the DVD is protected. For that very reason I would suggest AnyDVD...
http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html
It bypasses the "protection" that stops you copying your own property. They describe it as "fixing" it.
I obviously in no way condone or take part in any form of media piracy. We're talking about using something that we have bought and paid for

My first smart phone was the eris. I hated iphones and and pretty much everything else seemed overpriced. So i decided to step into the world of smartphones. I was persuaded by my research of the phones that were out at the time to go with a droid eris as i didnt find any other phones that were strictly touch screen. This was around November. I was shocked by how insane the possibilitys with this phone. I hadnt rooted as it was not possible that the time. Few months later i choose to look back and see what the news was. I came across this place to see that root had been found and how excited i was to have discovered this place. I looked into rooting and how to install things like the recovery img and what a rom was! The people seemed to be very kind and helpful to bringing this phone out of the dark age that was the restraints on this phone. after about months and months of fooling around i learned to own my phone like a 7 year old owning his father at halo. But issues were brought to light sadly and the eris community seemed to slow down with the excitement as is expected of an EOL phone. my sadness slowly over came me but i never left this place hoping to see what the left over momentum would bring out. New roms and small tweaks seemed slow at first then a sudden rise started. Unsure of what it caused brought a rush of new content to this site. The devs seemed almost overjoyed with the small titan that is the Eris. The wave slowly picked up and almost topped off till one thing came to view.
FROYO
This is the start of a beast of a update to the eris. It has givin this phone a burst of reason to buy and even use the phone once more. I hope i can speak for the entire eris community. THANK YOU!! thank you for making this phone the one toy/tool worth showing off to everyone i meet. You devs keep it up and if any help is needed from the community dont hesitate to ask. I will strive to do all i can to make this phone a power house in the android community!!
I echo your sentiments almost exactly! Except I didn't get my phone till a couple of months ago, and I don't play Halo because I don't want to get embarrassed by those same 7 year olds online and then talked smack to lol. Other than that, I am hoping this Froyo concept gets some more members interested in working with this phone a bit more before it passes away. I believe that they have stopped selling it, but geez, there are quite a few of us that can't afford to spend $100s on the latest and greatest phone without a new contract, so let's make the most of it while we can!
dont be so fast to give it an insane rating...Although we might have:
Overclock (to 806mhz)
Apps2SD (save internal memory by installing apps to SD card)
Live Wallpapers
Root
Navi
and now Froyo

What kind of videos are we talking about here? Flash or downloaded formats like AVI and MP4? I use Meridian and haven't had any issues with downloaded movies, although I've really only tried a couple since I don't care to use my phone to watch anything longer than a youtube video or something along those lines.
Rockplayer basically plays everything, avi and mkv are supported I believe. Of course mp4's are.

hm...I'm running damageRom 4.6 r2.....I used the rock player apk from the xda home page from last night...and I got nothin man..it doesnt play a 350mb avi file..
I'm running Sense-able 3.1, and I can install Rockplayer, but when I try to open a video file the screen goes blank for 1-2 seconds, and then goes back to the directory listing. I've never been able to get it to play a video.
To counter this, I've just been encoding my videos using mp4 h.264, and playing them using the gallery. It's been working fantastically so far.

Hmmm...when you "encode" your own files, I'm guessing youre converting any file onto either h264 or mp4 without making any changes to the resst of the file...like size, bitrate, etc....
I have Slingplayer on my phone and I want my wife to be able to use it as well. Can I just copy the 3 slingplayer files from my Titanium Backup to her Titanium Backup.
It seems like it would be more complicated than that. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know.
UPDATE ! It works
This was surprising easy. Just do a search in Titanium Backup for sling on the original phone , there will be 3 files. Copy those and add to any other Phones Titanium Backup files. Open up TB on the new phone find slingplayer and click on restore. Works like a charm.
Not to derail your thread, but hows the quality on the phone over 3g? Thanks

My guess would be no... I would think they have something to authenticate it. Also, if you transfer the registration code, it takes it away from the original.
And to ^^ I was very dissatisfied with the slingplayer for android and promptly refunded it waiting for an update. It still hasn't been updated even though there are numerous complaints about the streaming quality among other things. Options are very limited (no full screen) no audio options, terrible sound n video quality etc. For me not worth the $29.99 price tag. I'm continuing to use It on my bberry for now.

My picture quality is unbelievable , I switched from s-video to component 1080i signal from my HR-20 Directv receiver. It is now full screen , it looks HD.Couldn't be happier.

Yea its possible....
Moving a file from your computer to your phone is pretty basic, just plug your phone into your computer and I am sure you can figure it out.
As to where you can get the movies legally, I am not sure. I think the Green Hornet that is included makes you create some sort of account and my guess is you will be able to buy content threw there but that is a complete guess on my part.
This seems pretty basic doesn't the manual cover how to copy to and from your SDCard?
I think that he was asking what format they need to be in. like side by side, red green, etc.

Gotcha when I read his question it seemed kinda basic to me but put it your way and you have a legitimate question. At least he used real words.
I'd probably use DVDFab Blu-Ray 3D Ripper if you want to rip any 3D movies you already own. I've never used it, but it seems like maybe you'd be able to set the 540p resolution with side-by-side.
I've been reading about 3d content on the EVO 3D, and it seems like we have the CPU horsepower to render the output of 720p with huge-quality audio, though if I were ripping with only the E3D in mind, I would definitely convert to 540p with standard-quality audio.
I have the movie Avatar from my Galaxy S Vibrant. I tried watching it on my new T-Mobile Galaxy S2, via SD card, but it says "Avatar.dcf locked". How do I unlock it so the movie is playable?
Probably easier to just download the avi off btjunkie...

I have same issue. I would like to know if this file can be unlocked to play on my S II?
It's an encrypted/copy protected file, and obviously the SGS2 is unable to decrypt it. Had a similar issue trying to get Batman Begins (same format/dcf) off my old Nokia N958GB.
Doubt you'll be able to watch it on your SGS2.
Thanks for the reply. I was hoping there was a way to unlock it. Oh well, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
NP I remember searching online a couple years ago for a way to copy that movie off the Nokia so I could watch it on my PC. Various bits of software promised same, but they were all "pay" upfront (no trial/shareware & anywhere between $50-$100) and I was very sceptical they'd work based on the other research I'd done on the dcf file format.
Update: So apparently this has been cracked by HBOTroll1, all thanks to him. You can find his thread here. Unfortunately I have dumped my photon because of Motorola's failed promises. It was a great phone but I will never again by from this company. I also do not have HBO GO anymore because of this issue but I might get it again to try this apk. I am reposting a direct link to the apk here.
This has been confirmed to work on the Photon by others. Also if you have an MHL device to try this on that would be appreciated. I am not sure if MHL is a problem to begin with though...
Disclaimer: To my extremely limited knowledge reposting this does not violate any copyright laws, which is not my intention. My belief is that this is a lack of functionality in the program which has been fixed in this apk. If such is not the case, HBO please contact me so we can discuss this error in your program.

I just got HBO GO, I know Game of Thrones is f*****g awesome as **** *** *****!!!!
Anywhoo... I tried plugging the photon into my tv as the PS3 does not yet have an app and HBO GO refuses to play video with the HDMI plugged into it. Does anyone know any way to stop the app or the system of realizing that the signal is being sent out?
I would be willing to put in a lot of effort into getting this hack to work but I don't even know where to start. So any advice would rock!
RANT: I know they have a reason for disabling this but for realz I can just torrent their shows so when I'm paying I'm not going to try and rip off their stuff. I mean there's a reason that I'm paying!
RANT EXTENDED: I hate all of this DRM like bullsh!t that makes it more difficult to be a paying customer then a priate. I mean you can just go to isohunt or thepiratebay and search for game of thrones 720p. Then download the playstation media server and install the extra codecs and whatnot they recomend. This will let your computer transcode the video files so that the ps3 can output the video over your network. Wifi N can handle the video great and plug in a hundred foot Ethernet cable for $13 and get beautiful streaming with 5.1 surround sound.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any kind of workaround for this. I remember having the same issue. Think I tried running HBO from browser in Webtop mode but can't remember if it just didn't work or if it worked and the video was bad quality.
Probably better off downloading vid from the net and installing to view locally.
what we need is to get our hands on the earlier version of the app
I've heard people report it USED to work using a combination of the first release of the app and something called Xternal Display (which just mirrors the image on the screen.)
I know sprint t.v doesn't work either on HDMI out using stock mopho .

I can't believe you're brave enough to use isohunt and piratebay. Those are the two most well known trackers that get people busted.
Game of thrones is full of win, though! Can't wait till finale gets upped. I'm dying to watch it.

I'm guessing that it check the version number and would want you to update. Though if anyone has an older apk I would love to try this out!
I have version 1.3.1, I just installed version 1.7.1 and installed this version and it still plays fine, haven't tried hdmi out using version 1.3.1 yet. But I'll upload it tomorrow, I'm away from my computer right now
I got it working perfectly
I used splashtop on my Macbook which also works on PC to get it working everytime without fail. I have a video on youtube that shows me doing it but I am a newb so I can't post link. lol
sorry everybody, i thought the thread was dead but here is the hbogo 1.3.1 apk, just fyi it gives out the original error message saying that there is something wrong, not the new one stating the program doesn't allow hdmi out.
