Add Slingplayer to another Vibrant - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Slingplayer on my phone and I want my wife to be able to use it as well. Can I just copy the 3 slingplayer files from my Titanium Backup to her Titanium Backup.
It seems like it would be more complicated than that. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know.
UPDATE ! It works
This was surprising easy. Just do a search in Titanium Backup for sling on the original phone , there will be 3 files. Copy those and add to any other Phones Titanium Backup files. Open up TB on the new phone find slingplayer and click on restore. Works like a charm.

Not to derail your thread, but hows the quality on the phone over 3g? Thanks

My guess would be no... I would think they have something to authenticate it. Also, if you transfer the registration code, it takes it away from the original.
And to ^^ I was very dissatisfied with the slingplayer for android and promptly refunded it waiting for an update. It still hasn't been updated even though there are numerous complaints about the streaming quality among other things. Options are very limited (no full screen) no audio options, terrible sound n video quality etc. For me not worth the $29.99 price tag. I'm continuing to use It on my bberry for now.

Thats a bummer to hear. I was going to look into it, but guess Ill wait.

My picture quality is unbelievable , I switched from s-video to component 1080i signal from my HR-20 Directv receiver. It is now full screen , it looks HD.Couldn't be happier.
Now just want it on my wifes phone. Audio is good as well. (Solo)

A few questions before I buy

So I've done some searching and reading here lately, and I have just a few questions before I finally make this leap. I'm ecstatic that the BL is finally unlocked. This is great!
First, I do some traveling and I love being able to plug a device in to a hotel TV and get decent video quality. Is the multimedia dock the only way to allow this? Specifically, I'm looking at streaming Netflix or Hulu. I usually don't travel with DVDs on my storage card, but I suppose I can if that's the only option here.
Second, how does anyone with the LapDock like it? I personally see myself using this quite a bit, as it would make life easier at work with a larger interface and full keyboard. Do you find it too cumbersome to travel with? Ideal when you'll be in one place for longer periods of time?
How's the video chat capability? With some travel, I like to be able to call my son when on the road. Does the front cam give decent quality?
Is there any video chat capability with the lapdock? I don't see a cam on the front of it, so I'm curious if the USB ports are usable with a webcam. This would also be ideal for the quick video conferences for work.
I've been waiting and waiting for something better to come along. However, a refurbed Atrix for $50, and a refurbed lapdock for $175 is pretty tough to pass up. Both for $225...or brand new for $300 after rebate.
Thanks for any help and insight.

There´s a hdmi mirroring mod and i think it will be includen in the custom roms coming soon so you dont need a dock

AFAIK ther´s no cam in the dock but with the hdmi mirroring you can video chat on a tv, i dont know if you can plug in a webcam but with full ubuntu it should be possible
My advice: BUY IT
i dont think hdmi mirroring or webtop via hdmi is working YET in 2.3.4, but in 1.8.3 you are golden on both. with full ubuntu, there is no reason you couldnt use a webcam with the lapdock that i can think of, its essentially a computer, so as long as linux drivers are available for whichever webcam you choose to use, it should work.
Awesome! Thanks guys. Now to pull the trigger and get this thing ordered.
Just want to give my input on the lapdock. Its incredibly thin. and its a nice size. I picked up a refurbished unit from At&t for about 175.
Charges your phone too. I slapped debian on it, and it runs really nice!

Great to hear! I've been thinking about putting the full distro on there as well. I think this is a great concept and a fantastic start, even if there are some bugs/issues/features to address. I think this basic function and form will be around for a while, or at least I hope so.
On the dock, I'm assuming you've addressed the APN issue to take a grandfathered unlimited plan? That's my biggest concern: keeping unlimited data and being able to use webtop. I've read the dev forum, and it seems no one is having any issues with this, which is great.
I have unlimited. You just need to apply the tethering hack found in the dev forum, and you'll be able to keep your unlimited data!
By the way, if you're scared of receiving a bad refurbished dock, don't be. My dock looks and acts brand new

I've had pretty good luck with the refurbs before. Mine have always been brand new, but I've bought refurbs for others, and they've been flawless. I was a bit worried with the Atrix, but when I talked to my sales guy the other day he was telling me about 80% of the docks he sells are returned within 30 days. That gave me the idea to look at refurbs, and 175 isn't bad!
You'll have to get it online for the discount I believe. Free shipping too.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, that's usually how the refurbs work. I was just saying I got the idea from the salesman who said he's seen a lot returned. Now to just make sure they don't change my data plan That's always easier in the store!

Turn my phone into a gaming platform

In another month or two I will be upgrading to a new phone. My6-YO daughter likes playing games on my phone, and I would like to give it to her after I upgrade so she can keep on playing games on it. Is there any way to "fix" the phone so it can't possibly make any phone calls, including 911, but still be able to play games?
I don't know about getting rid of the phone function completely, but perhaps install a 3rd party launcher and hide the phone shortcut from the dock/menu bar area so it won't be as easy to launch and dial.

I would freeze any app you wouldn't want her to use and then have a app that password protects TB so she wont go there or any other system app ( that u shouldn't freeze) that you wanna keep her away from.

I like the Titanium idea a lot. That will be perfect! Thanks a lot.
Presumably the phone won't have a sim in it, so it could only make emergency calls. My view is that if the phone has that capability, then a 6 yo will find a way. Maybe you should either remove the modem.bin file, or flash one from different hardware that simply won't connect to the gsm network.
My 6 and 7 yo's both have ipod touches that they use for gaming. Be prepared to have lots of family arguments about just how much is too much.
You could always flash one of the slightly older CM7's with the 911 bug Between that and no SIM, there shall be no calling done from that phone...
That, or using Titanium/Root Explorer to freeze/delete the dialer and modem.bin, as previously stated.
Froyo will be better for gaming on the vibrant, also airplane mode should be on at all times (you can still use wifi in airplane mode =]) Thats how I've been using mine since I cant afford my bill right now. My battery life has been CRAZY! =D Also I would go with a 1.3ghz overclock for performance to battery ratio (or just stick with plain old 1ghz =P)
I stumbled on this a while back but have not tried it. You could check it out and see if it helps any as well. Even if it does I would still use Titanium to freeze the dialer as well just to be on the safe side.

My 7 y.o daughter actually shows my wife how to use her HTC MyTouch 4g and she could navigate perfectly throughout my Vibrant.
If I freeze/remove modem.bin, and try to keep the phone in airplane mode, I should still be able to use wifi for updating games and/or downloading new ones. Correct? Even with the sim removed?
I like the idea about the kidsproof app. That will come in handy. Thanks for the tip.
Any more permanent tips for disabling in-game ads? That's actually the biggest problem I have now with the phone when I give it to her.
Yes, my daughter frequently shows my wife how to do things on my phone. Pretty funny, actually.
Maybe someday they will put a micro-switch under the battery which disables the phone (and maybe a second switch for wifi) so that we can hand our phones down when we are done with them. These phones are getting pretty nice and it kinda sucks to just toss it/donate it.
1. Try it and let us know. 2. There is a app called Ad Free in the market but I'm not sure if it been updated to still work but u could try it. 3. B4 you know it your daughter is gonna need a phone, thats how fast they grow.

accessing evos cameras from a computer or another android

I am looking to be able to access the cameras on my phones from another android phone or computer. Lets say one gets stolen (I have 3, an evo 4g, an evo 3d, and and epic 4g) I want to be able not to only track them but also access them from another device or computer and see what the people are doing on it or at least be able to access the front and rear cameras with out their knowledge and be able to snap pics from the camera. Not sure if that makes much sense it does in my head and I would really like to know how. I am sure it can be done over wifi or tethered but I won't be either of those. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, sounds like a very cool idea.
If you are planning stalking the hell out of someone.
I very seriously doubt u can just tune into your camera from another device without any action on the phone u want to look through. A cool idea it is but can't see it being possible.

Look up app called "android lost". It once u activate it from web site it will ask user of stolen phone to enter a passcode. Every time they do it takes a picture of them. I believe it also takes pictures every few minutes and gives u GPS, address location, and let u turn on microphone and view outgoing and incoming calls and texts. Bad ass program. And the best part of it all its free
Use the app "webkey" you can do everything you want to your phone from a computer
+1 on androidlost. I use it, its outstanding

I don't believe so
I think the app "gotcha" has similar features... you can also use it for surveillance if you suspect that someone is using your phone when you are not looking.
Androidlost is pretty awesome. You access its functions from a web browser, and you can have it use both the front facing and back cameras to take pictures. That being said, it would be nice if there was a dedicated app that did this. Real-time video would be an awesome addition too. It'll be like your lil'personal security camera.

Could u imagine putting this on ur kids phones or ur spouses phone. I'm sure people take advantage of it that way
As mentioned previously there are already several apps that do this. Obviously it isn't always going to be tractable, because the phone has to be on, have GPS signal (or at very least a connection to three towers) to get a small enough radius of its position. It would need either wifi or a 3G connection. Realistically for live video it will need a good, stable 4g connection (unless you are satisfied with a low resolution, low frame rate video feed). It needs to also use as little resources as possible, and be somewhat hidden so it doesn't make someone suspicious or find it to turn it off, or kill the task or service.
It is a great tool to have if your phone is stolen for sure. I'm not sure that it would be really useful though in the event that your phone is stolen, not lost. I don't know about other people but I am thinking if my phone was stolen the first thing I would do is have my account suspended. I would be worried because people can use your phone bill to buy things, and call some phone whores at 800 an hour.
I am pretty sure I read one of those apps have the ability to format your data so it isn't stolen too. The other function I might want to count on, is the ability for the app to lock the phone down. Make it impossible to unlock the device, at all, or maybe with a password. Of course the last important feature would be to have all this start even after reboot and battery pull.
I can imagine this being used maliciously by some people. Anyway, that is my two cents on the matter.
I remember seeing something with somewhat the same function. When lost, you go to the website, lock it, it shows gps location, and takes a pic using front camera if possible. Don't remember the app right now...

What are you using to read WJS?

Did some searching and didn't really find my answer so going to post here let me know if this should have been in General.
What are you using to read the wall street journal?
I have seen 2 apps on my transformer prime when searching. There is the WSR (wall street reader) its a paid app for 6.09. I already pay WJS for access and think paying again for a reader sucks.
There is a WJS tablet but it does not show up on my prime, only in google market (web) Says its not compatable with my infuse nor my TFP, but will go to the Samsung note.
Then the last app seems not really made for a tablet.
So what are you using to read WJS, do I have to suck it up and buy WSR?
True i could go to the webpage but I was hoping for a local copy that I could read on the way to work.
Thanks
I think WSJ has Pressreader support?
If you have online account with WSJ, try this -
Pressreader - Settings - Accounts - Authorize (put your WSJ's username+password here)
Your subscription should appear.
WSJ Android App
The WSJ has an Android Tablet App. Scroll to the very bottom of the first online page and click on "tablet". It seems expensive at $4.00/week. I have a print subscription and will be giving them a call to see if they have any special offers for print subscribers. I agree that the current solutions in the Android Market don't work very well.
let me know if you find any thing out, please. My email seems to have fallen of def ears.

There are 2 apps for the WSJ, one designed for the tablet the other for your phone. The tablet app is pretty heavy, takes a long time to load and in general bogs down my Prime. The WSJ I have installed on my HTC Amaze is light and flys on the prime but like you said the market wont let you install it on the tablet, soooo....First you need to root your tablet, you dont need to unlock the bootloader just root it. I backed up my phone apps using titanium, once the prime has root I copied the titanium backup directory to my SD card and then restored the phone WSJ app, works great. The Washington Post also has an app for the phone only, did the same thing and it works as well.
Awesome will try it, I already have it rooted for adblock. Kinda sad really, when I rooted my phone I had a ton of things to do... I rooted my prime and I put adblock on and basically forgot I had it even rooted. Thanks for confirming I could just copy over the apk and install. I will post back my experiences in case anyone is watching... Ya I doubt it...
Thanks!

[APP] HBO GO with HDMI support!

Update: So apparently this has been cracked by HBOTroll1, all thanks to him. You can find his thread here. Unfortunately I have dumped my photon because of Motorola's failed promises. It was a great phone but I will never again by from this company. I also do not have HBO GO anymore because of this issue but I might get it again to try this apk. I am reposting a direct link to the apk here.
This has been confirmed to work on the Photon by others. Also if you have an MHL device to try this on that would be appreciated. I am not sure if MHL is a problem to begin with though...
Disclaimer: To my extremely limited knowledge reposting this does not violate any copyright laws, which is not my intention. My belief is that this is a lack of functionality in the program which has been fixed in this apk. If such is not the case, HBO please contact me so we can discuss this error in your program.

I just got HBO GO, I know Game of Thrones is f*****g awesome as **** *** *****!!!!
Anywhoo... I tried plugging the photon into my tv as the PS3 does not yet have an app and HBO GO refuses to play video with the HDMI plugged into it. Does anyone know any way to stop the app or the system of realizing that the signal is being sent out?
I would be willing to put in a lot of effort into getting this hack to work but I don't even know where to start. So any advice would rock!
RANT: I know they have a reason for disabling this but for realz I can just torrent their shows so when I'm paying I'm not going to try and rip off their stuff. I mean there's a reason that I'm paying!
RANT EXTENDED: I hate all of this DRM like bullsh!t that makes it more difficult to be a paying customer then a priate. I mean you can just go to isohunt or thepiratebay and search for game of thrones 720p. Then download the playstation media server and install the extra codecs and whatnot they recomend. This will let your computer transcode the video files so that the ps3 can output the video over your network. Wifi N can handle the video great and plug in a hundred foot Ethernet cable for $13 and get beautiful streaming with 5.1 surround sound.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any kind of workaround for this. I remember having the same issue. Think I tried running HBO from browser in Webtop mode but can't remember if it just didn't work or if it worked and the video was bad quality.
Probably better off downloading vid from the net and installing to view locally.
what we need is to get our hands on the earlier version of the app
I've heard people report it USED to work using a combination of the first release of the app and something called Xternal Display (which just mirrors the image on the screen.)
I know sprint t.v doesn't work either on HDMI out using stock mopho .

I can't believe you're brave enough to use isohunt and piratebay. Those are the two most well known trackers that get people busted.

I'm guessing that it check the version number and would want you to update. Though if anyone has an older apk I would love to try this out!
I have version 1.3.1, I just installed version 1.7.1 and installed this version and it still plays fine, haven't tried hdmi out using version 1.3.1 yet. But I'll upload it tomorrow, I'm away from my computer right now
I got it working perfectly
I used splashtop on my Macbook which also works on PC to get it working everytime without fail. I have a video on youtube that shows me doing it but I am a newb so I can't post link. lol
sorry everybody, i thought the thread was dead but here is the hbogo 1.3.1 apk, just fyi it gives out the original error message saying that there is something wrong, not the new one stating the program doesn't allow hdmi out.
