hey guys,
I've been having a problem with my gmail calendar not syncing, which is very important to me. Not sure if anyone else has this issue. It worked for about 2 weeks then stopped. I still got email, but not sure if my contacts were syncing. I tried the manual sync in Accounts and it said it was synced, but it wasn't. No phone to gmail or gmail to phone on the calendar. I set up a multiple day event (every thursday) and that was when it stopped working.
Anyway, here's how I got it working again. I went into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications, then the ALL tab. First I opened the Calendar Sync Adapter and Clear Data. (That didn't fix it, but I'm not sure if it fixed something else, but this is all the steps I took.) Next was Calendar and Clear Data. (Still no fix). Lastly was Calendar Storage and Clear Data. I'm not sure if the last one was the important one or it was a combination of all three, but that seemed to fix it. I had to re-enter all the events that were originally inputted through my phone so you might want to write those down, but now my phone goes both ways... with gmail... haha. Hope this saves someone some time.
Oh, and I'm stock 2.2.2 not rooted.
What bloat ware have u frozen/uninstalled also you could try force stopping you calender and clearing data and reboot idk if it will do ne thing but its worth a shot
I'm unrooted stock. I haven't frozen or uninstalled any bloatware. I cleared the data and that seemed to do the trick for a day. Now I'm starting to have the same problem again. I haven't rebooted since so I guess I'll try that.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but
Recently ive been trying sense roms and they just haven't been able to sync facebook and my contacts, before sometimes by the time i had finished the setup, my contacts were linked with photos (well most of them) ive tried clearing the data, cache, removing the account and adding it again, leaving it overnight, but nothings happening. Maybe its a problem HTC is having.
Anyone having the same problem?
This is a common problem. You sometimes have to wait up to 6 hours for it to properly sync. I would wait at least 2 hours between trying each fix. Typically fixes have included:
Removing and re-adding your facebook account
Doing the above on 3G (or lower) only
Doing the above on WiFi only
Removing the account, re-installing the facebook app and adding your account through the app rather than the settings menu
ive tried all of that trust me
Then try again. It does work as i've had it broken and working on the same rom. It is just very picky sometimes.
Make sure you're on the latest version of whichever rom your using (would be helpful to know).
Don't do too much at once and be more patient with it. This isn't something you'll fix in a few hours or a day. Try spending a few hours without a facebook account activated at all. Reboot a few times without the facebook app and any account. Let your phone sync everything else for a few hours. Then try adding the facebook account without facebook app installed (don't force a sync) just let it sync in its own time - could take 3 hours or more. After that time try a forced sync. If nothing happens get the facebook app and add your details to that and see if that helps. etc etc. I would probably repeat this process on 3G and on WiFi separately.
Which rom's have you tried? and how long have you had each installed?
ok thanks, i'll try this
i'm using the mmod rom
EDIT: thanks very much, i removed facbeook, rmeoved the account, left it for about two hours, added the account and its working now!
Hoping someone can help me out. For the past couple of weeks, I haven't been able to send emails out using the Gmail app. I can compose, attach, save....but when I go to hit the send button, or choose send from the menu, the button grays out instantly and nothing sends. Doesn't even go to the outbox.
I've read around the forums for the TB and other devices having the same issues and tried all of the tips. I've wiped app data, app cache, uninstalled all updates, uninstalled the .apk, reinstalled from the market. None of those potential solutions have worked for me . Sync works fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: it's happened on multiple roms, so I know that isn't the issue.
Thank God!
Sorry...I am just happy I am not the only person dealing with this.
I am experiencing the EXACT same thing. I was just about to post everything you did...plus
I cleared all drafts from GMail. I cleared all sent mail from Gmail. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling gmail. I have tried serveral different methods for restoring everything....
- skipping setup and turning off auto-restore and auto sync restoring everything with TiBu
- skipping setup and turning off auto-restore and auto sync restoring everything with MyBuPro
- skipping setup and turning off auto-restore. Signing in to google letting sync complete including apps. Then waiting 15 mins...rebooting and manually restoring only my missing user apps via TiBu.
- loaded the 2.11.605.3 rooted and deodexed but otherwise stock RUU posted in the deveopment forum and still it happened after restoring all my apps.
Everytime...I think I have it beat...but within a day...NOPE! No sending again.
At first I thought it was restoring the apps...BUT
What is F'n strange is that it does not break as soon as the restore is finished. In fact I make sure to email myself at another email address each step of the way to make sure if I can identify where I am going wrong. Each time everything is fine at first.
It is usually between a few hours and a day when Gmail stops working.
This last time I noticed that the gmail app updates itself when I am done...even if I make sure not to in my restore. But I immediately sent myself an email to that address and it worked. Then several hours later...it was broken again.
Not sure if this is related...but I noticed that gmail duplicates that address in the drop down after it breaks. What I mean is that when I type the first few letters of my name....all my emails show up....but each only once. But after it breaks ... the email I sent the tests too shows up in that list twice.
This is the most maddening thing I have ever dealt with in my 3 years of owning some rooted droid or another.
I am tempted to just unroot and restore to stock...and pray that it goes away and does not plague me ever again after 11.11.11
Return to stock and see if the problem persists. If it does call up verizon, explain to them what is happening, may be a problem with the phone, not sure how, but just maybe.
I assume this is the best way?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
So I tried wiping and loading a fresh install...and only reinstalled a few of the most vital and used apps.
Have had no problem for 3 days. So clearly it was a bad app causing this. I will experiment this weekend to see if I can figure out which one.
I've had this problem come and go, but telling Titanium Backup to wipe the data for the GMail app always fixes the issue for me.
Can you wipe data of primary gmail address? What happens then - does it take you to the startup screen to sign into gmail from scratch?

It just does it for the whole app... So basically all 4 of my GMail accounts had no messages on the phone until the app successfully synced with GMail. Sending normally works fine after that.
I'll try that next time. Thanks
I just got the Rezound yesterday for my work phone. I have Exchange setup on the phone and my grail account. However, neither one syncs. I let me phone sit overnight and when I came back to it, it said I had 0 emails. As soon as I opened it and hit menu refresh, I got all my emails from over the night. Now the only way I can get my email is doing the menu refresh.
I have factory reset the phone twice and double checked the settings. They are set to push email (even off peak) and always on mobile data is checked.
Anything else I can check or try to get them to work? Is it maybe a defective phone? Everything else works fine. I can surf the web, youtube and everything. Just email issues.

When I've had this problem (on different phones), I go to application data and clear the caches and data for gmail, reopen gmail and it usually starts syncing correctly after that. But I would assume that a factory reset would accomplish this?

I will give that a try. Thanks! Yeah I thought the factory reset would have fixed it too.

Nope didn't work
I just noticed too that I deleted an email from Gmail last night and when I opened Gmail on the web, it still showed the message in my inbox as unopened. So it is not syncing at all, either way.
It might be a bad phone. I have exchange with gmail as well and its syncing fine out of the box. I didn't adjust or change anything.
Is auto sync on

I seem to have deleted my Google calender (or some part of it) from my android (specs below). I can’t seem to be able to restore it.
I had problems syncing a new calender and was trying to clear all cache etc in order to get it to sync. I went into Settings --> applications --> All --> ‘Calendar’ (I’ve always had two of those, so I took the one with data in it, the other always stands on 0.0B).
I cleared the data, force stopped it and then I pushed Disable. The button went from disable to enable and I restarted my phone thinking I could enable it after restart. After reboot the calendar had disappeared. Meaning: no icon in the ‘applications’ screen, when I go into the settings menu I only have one post named ‘calendar’ (the empty one). Calendar Storage still has content though and when I use widgets they seem to be able to access and sync to my main Google calender. When I use ‘month’ view I can see the different events I have in my calendar but I can’t edit anything from my phone. As soon as I try to actually access it I get the message ‘Unfortunately, TwLauncher has stopped’.
How do I restore, or enable the Calender again? I find it really disturbing that I don’t have a calender icon in ‘application’ anymore and that it seems to have completely disappeared.
I’ve tried clearing data, experimenting with the sync option and rebooting several times. I just can’t seem to get any results though. And I can't find it on play so I can't re-install it. Any insight on this?

First check via Google mail/calendar if u see ur appointments...
If u don't see it there, they wasn't saved it Google account and so just local, which u delete (no restore)
If u see them there, just delete and reactivate ur Google account on ur phone.
CHEERS ;-)

Might have worked had it been a sync problem only (my calendar is intact on the web). This however is a problem of the built-in calendar app disappearing. I removed the account and installed it again but the calendar did not appear.
I'm starting to think that factory reset is the only viable option.

Hmm but that's a bit much for just probs like this...
Hmm u checked the options in application > all > calendar and delete data again?
Then also checked if calendar sync is active (I think so but just an idea)
So last option before factory reset would be wiping the dalvik cache
If at all now luck... U can do it.
But would be really strange.
Much success ;-)

Lost Calendar Events
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I have a similar issue/problem
I was syncing and unsyncing with my samsung to google calendars, then the next day I checked, I realized all my events disappeared.
I did not erase anything yet all my events were gone.
I did notice that something was occurring during the period that I lost my data.
I saw that my default Samsung browser on my smart phone went on a refresh loop on google home page. This was an issue on googles end and was resolved eventually.
This was one of google's problems. There would be an issue with google recognizing me logging on the google home page and gmail. This lasted for a week. I wonder if that caused my data to disappear?
There are a few links below describing what happened. I'm wondering if this is an issue with Google, samsung+google, or syncing in general.
if I can recover my lost events that would be great!
It seems like a lot of them has to do with smartphones syncing, which is what I did. Even if there isn’t a solution or a recovery for this, it would be great to at least get an understanding as to why this happened (so i can avoid it in the future). I am currently storing everything local to my phone and havne’t experienced any loss of information. It’s quite disconcerting that if I did use google calendars, at any moment, all my events can go missing.

Restore a recent backup, that way the period of events lost will be minimal; only events entered/altered after the time of the backup, obviously (and you can then sync to Google if you like to bring that back up to date).
So far as recovering your lost events goes, I doubt Google will restore an individuals calendar events. Tho you might as well ask them, they might surprise you. That way you then simply restore them to your phone.
Failing that, unless you've got a copy of the db file containing the calendar events still on the phone, can't see how you'd get them back unfortunately.
As to why, I'd be asking Google. I've been keeping my phone/Google calendar synced a couple of times a day over the year and a bit I've had my SGS2 & never had a problem from their end (a couple very early doors caused by me when I had to reset my phone & I hadn't synced to Google before doing the reset).
Thanks Mistah. Unfortunately I didnt make any backups with TiBu or a nandroid at that time.
I've asked google and you are correct, they dont do event restores.
Yes definitely my main concern is why it happened at all? So it never happened to you?....hmmm..
im wondering if it was something on Google's part or something I did.
Before I realized my calendar disappeared, I unsynched and erased the profile on my device so it only had the local calendar, then i synced again.
I wonder if my erasing that profile on my samsung caused the calendar to delete. Or maybe it didn't register or save?
I can't 100% recall if I saved the events on google's calendar or my local. but if I stored on my local, shouldnt the data still be there even after my sync and unsync or google calendar?

Yep. If you remove the Google a/c from your phone completely, it deletes the events attached to that Google a/c in the calendar app. When you add it back, you'll have an empty calendar until you sync it from Google.
So essentially, what's seemed to have happened is you've done that with the a/c on your phone, for whatever reason your events @ Google's end have been nuked, so when you've re-added the a/c back on your phone & gone to sync it, there's been nothing there to sync back to the phone.
If you untick 'show [email protected]' in the calendar app settings (as opposed to removing the a/c outright), exit the app & restart the app you end up with an empty calendar, because it must have a Google a/c linked. If you retick 'show [email protected]' your events show again because simply unticking it doesn't delete anything.
Removing the a/c outright from the phone must purge the DB file(s) (?? I presume) on the phone.
That's the most logical explanation I can come up with given what happened/the order it happened in with your phone.

I just tried it again. I removed the account from my phone. then resynced it. All the info from the calendar is still there.
Currently i store everything locally and only view local calendar (as you've said, untick google calendar).
Also not sure if this matters, I'm not using google calendars, I'm using samsung's stock calendar planner.
I cant see how removing the account from ur handheld would erase all events from your calendar. Isn't removing the account just deciding not to sync with it?

That's why I added (?? I presume) to that line in my PP about removing the account potentially wiping the DB files.
I doubt you'll end up finding out what happened/why it happened.
Anyhow, that's all I can offer.

ya, it was worth a shot to test out that theory.
back to square one i guess.
google is blaming on samsung's app causing the erase when syncing.

I thought I should post my findings, in case anyone has the same problems down the line.
I tried a new ROM for my SGS4G: T959V. Everything seemed to be working pretty well, there were a few things I didn't like about it.
Eventually I noticed that I couldn't add to the calendar. As soon as I clicked Save it would be gone and not save to my gmail account. This was even the case when I added to "My Calendar" instead of my gmail calendar.
Everything was checked as far as Settings/Accounts/Sync Calendar but I eventually noticed that even things that I added from a computer weren't properly updating.
Even after re-ROMing the problem wasn't fixed. I tried basically every ROM before I figured out the solution:
There are two apps in the Manage Applications section: Calendar and Calendar Storage. I cleared the data of both of them, waited a minute or two. Voila, the calendar app works perfectly.
I couldn't find anything regarding this problem, so hopefully someone might find this useful if they have my problem.
Be careful if you use the local calendar and not the gmail calendar. Also, why do you use the local calendar and not the gmail calendar?
Keep tinkering
