Hello.
When contact list first opened and start scrolling it doesn't show contact's pictures until scrolling is completely stopped. This is very annoying and looks like unfinished product...
I understand that Atrix sync contacts with google account and shows up-to-date photos, but there must be some kind of cache that could be used to display before the sync is complete...
[EDIT]it seems even with no internet connection the photos appearance have the same exact lag (1/2 second) as with the internet, which means the reason for photos not being shown during scroll is not the wait for the sync completion, it's something else[/EDIT]
Any fixes for this nonsense?
Thank you.
P.S.
I'm looking at HTC Inspire next to Atrix and I'm drooling over it's everything-is-perfect-and-polished GUI, it's contact list has no such issue. Hopefully once we get bootloader unlocked someone will port the HTC Sense...(fingers crossed)

High there, got my SGS2 yesterday, rooted and all is well. I had a HTC HD2 before, and I have to say with recent android builds it was quite cool, but no comparison to the speed and beauty of the Galaxy S2.
One thing totally trips me off though and that is Samsungs Social Hub. I.e. when checking for Software updates you need to create an account... no go. But I digress.
What I want is for the contacts app to basically work like the one in HTC Sense,
which pulls in Facebook info of your contacts to the address book.
It will update the contacts picture (most importantly) and also updates/displays recent status updates.
I have tried apps like SyncMyPics (seems to have problems properly identifying contacts and complains about write protection on them) and Facebook sync (which finds 0 friends to match, even though there are several named identical between FB and the Phone book).
Please dont suggest just making an account at Samsung. I will NOT have all my address book uploaded and snooped through. It has to be ON the Phone. (Not using Google to handle my contacts either, no use of GMail).
JOINING the contact sets does not really work well at all, you don't get to pick which picture is to be used etc etc.
I'd like a priority-based link between my phonebook entry and the corresponding facebook profile, where the facebook profile info takes priority of the two.
Any suggestions? It worked beautifully in HTC Sense Desire HD ROM on HD2.
Have you tried installing Facebooks own app? Not used any of the Samsung stuff and I appear to have my friends photo, phone numbers and email addresses added, plus birthdays are appearing in my local calendar.
Sure have. In Facebook for Android the Sync Contacts option is checked at "sync all contacts", so is it in the Systems Accounts & Sync settings etc. Still, it doesnt seem to work. Maybe I'll give it another "delete all contacts" run and check my sequence again.
When i synced my Facebook contacts with my Google contacts, profile pictures were added.... great! but they are shockingly pixelated! When someone phones me and the picture pops up it look embarrassing, anyone else had this issue?
SyncMyPix works ok here. You can still manually "join" not founded to correct ones.
Just redid all my contacts, re-synced with syncmypics, this time it found 72 matches, but it didn't update the contacts. Also, when linking manually in smp, it loads the existing pic for cropping.
No other positive results either...
As I said, not using Google for contacts either. Must be a problem with the Samsung Contacts app? All Contacts were imported from a Sense-exported vcf file and have <HTCData><Facebook>id:XXXXXXX etc etc in the NOTE field. Might that be a cause of the problem?
I deleted it on a contact but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Yes, they don't look good! Also in my buddy widgets they are f*cking ugly. With my incredible s they were nice and normal, good looking. I would like to see it getting better too...
Ok... So I just found two things:
1. If I manually join contacts and the phonebook has a picture, that pic will be used over the Facebook one. Once that pic is deleted, the Facebook pic is used. (No hint as to whether or not it's a FB pic though, as the small blue F in HTC Sense)
2. When editing the contact and switching to the facebook tab on the contact, it says "Unable to edit SNS contact on the phone" - I guess this means that you can't edit your buddies FB pic on your phone, which makes perfect sense. Just wondering if "SNS" refers to a general social networking services or some particular Samsung service?
I must still say that HTC Sense did a better job integrating this type of info.

When you're looking at a contact card, you can choose which contact picture to use by pressing Menu > Mark as default.
The main difference from HTC is that the Samsung will only use the Facebook picture by default if there is not a picture already associated with the contact. You'll also find that the contact pictures taken from Facebook are sometimes stretched when you're in your contacts list to fit the available space (e.g. if the Facebook pic is rectangular rather than square).

SNS refers to the Samsung connectors for the various social networks the phone supports (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.). Equivalent of the likes of "Facebook for HTC Sense" that get used by FriendStream on HTC phones.
Thanks a LOT.
I'd never have guessed the "mark default" meant "select defaults" number etc...
So I logged into the social hub app and was a bit surprised it seems all traffic goes through Samsung servers? I remember Sense not asking me to agree to service terms, although I honestly tl;dr!-ed on the SNS agreement. Anywhere I could read up on that on a desktop screen tomorrow?
Weird thing is with Facebook for Android and SNS both running now, FBfA is labeled an "unknown" info source (displaying pictures in correct aspect ratio), while FB/SNS is labeled with the blue F but distorts the pics as mentioned...
So, so far the only upside to SNS is three ability to also sync the FB calendars...

cheers Wazzamatazz - this has been bugging me and I'm very grateful for your solution - thanks added!!
Hi Im having a hard time with my contact pics. they come out very low rez. I have turned off the google sync and still the same problem
while on that topic, is there a way to make it a larger pic when someone calls, all that space and just a little square in the middle
Same problem, and would like full screen hd caller id but the apps out right now don't seem too hot

Same here, even if I manually choose a high res photo, it gets low quality on the first call. Haven't find a solution yet
Friend caster pro syncs all my contact pics on gingerbread in HQ. They are still small one the call screen but crystal clear
There was a work around with the HTC EVO where you given the option to create a contact saved on the phone verses being saved to your google account. All images saved as phone contacts would display crystal clear on the caller ID. Obviously this didn't back up the contact with your google account so you would end up having to create a contact on the phone and a contact on google and connect two duplicates. A royal pain to set up but did resolve the problem.
I have no idea if a different Contacts APK with this functionality would solve it in the Motorola though.
I know about google sync, it's turned off. I've manually changed all contact pics on my Defy (2.3.7) and exported them to .vcf. Had no problem with restoring them on a new ROM. But this isn't working on RAZR, restoring from vcf or adding manually, doesn't make sense. They remain fuzzy
I have my FB contacts sync to my phone, and whenever I get a call, my caller id shows a blurry image of that contact. Is there a fix to this problem? thx
And FYI im running Launcher Pro with temp root.
I believe that is normal. Correct me if I am wrong, but the images that show up at first are low res. As it goes through the sync process, they look better. I had the same issue but after a few hours they looked normal.
i have had this problem for months now, so not a recent issue
facebook syncs low quality image, but google syncs EVEN LOWER quality.
when you sync your contacts to google, you may have a picture set that you took on your phone in its glorious 8mp quality, but once it syncs TO googles server then comes back to the phone, it's resized to like 96x96 because googles too lazy to fix something that we've been complaining about since 2009. therefore, if you use your own images for contacts, they'll always look like crap UNLESS you don't sync to google. it's a serious problem.
facebook, on the other hand, just syncs lower quality images to begin with.
I have my facebook contacts synced but whenever I get a call all I get is the green android robot for some reason. I dont get the facebook photo. I've tried unsyncing them and resyncing them and still doesnt work.
you're running a captivate? that might be why..facebook syncing doesn't work as well on those samsungs as it does on HTC
Hi!
I have a problem with Facebook application (not Facebook for HTC Sense - I want to avoid using this one) and the way it syncs peoples' pictures in the contact list. The problem is that some of the pictures are missing. I know for sure these persons have profile pictures set, but for some reason my Facebook app doesn't sync them. I double checked the "Link" menu, it shows that the phone book entry is indeed linked with a facebook account. The picture dropdown list also shows an empty person outline next to "Facebook".
Any ideas what might be the reason behind this behavior and how to fix it?
I'm using Virtuous Affinity ROM 2.05 on HTC T-Mobile G2.
Cheers!
Mmm, anyone? This has been present for some time now and is quite annoying.
Cheers!
This is quite frustrating and I can't seem to find a solution to this. I have birthdays and anniversaries entered for my contacts which are sync'd to my phone as well. Most of the birthdays and anniversaries show up in my calendar on my phone but some don't. Doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to it either. I noticed that on my HTC Evo LTE I can go to Calendar and specify which calendars it displays. Inside here there is the 'Contacts birthday's & Events' like what I have displayed on my Google Calendar on my PC and the color is yellow. The interesting part is that there is another calendar option called 'People' that is green and I think is an HTC Sense thing but am not 100% on this. The interesting part is that if I choose to display this all of my contact's dates are displayed in duplicate but some extra ones also display.. the ones that don't display on my yellow calendar. One might think the simple solution would be to uncheck the yellow one and check the green one and be done with it but there are also dates that show up on the yellow calendar that don't show up on the green one. The weird part is they BOTH take info from the same source so I don't understand this difference. I went through my contacts making sure they were all added to my 'Friends' group as I think this may have something to do with what events show and what not but it doesn't seem to help.
What gives? What am I doing wrong or what options should I be looking for to correct this? I've already missed a couple anniversaries and b-days a result and it's frustrating because when I realize I missed it I go to my contacts and there it is listed within the contact info but it never displayed in the calendar for some reason.
Someone who knows the calendars please help me out with this problem.
Anyone?
If anyone else has this issue I was able to uncheck the calendars that were currently selected, back out to let it refresh and then go back in and check them once again to get it to work. I'll keep my eye on it and see if it stays fixed but after backing back out the second time there were birthdays there that weren't prior to this little dance. If you're having this issue try giving that a shot.

Works for me, thanks!
Thanks for this thread! I can't believe 2 years later this problem is still occurring with Android (I'm on 4.4.2).
I experience this problem anytime I add a contact's birthday (or another date) to my contacts. In order for it to show up on my calendar, I need to select "Calendars to sync" in calendar settings, then uncheck "Contacts' birthdays & events", back out to the calendar, then go back into "Calendars to sync" and re-select "Contacts' birthdays & events". Once I back out to the calendar again it refreshes within a few seconds and the new date(s)/event(s) finally appear on the calendar.
Just performing those steps in the "Calendars to display" menu doesn't work.
