I got my S2 through my carrier (Telenor Sweden), who told me early batches would be unlocked as they were still finalising how to lock it. It does indeed accept other SIMs just fine. As I understand there are four methods an S2 can be locked however:
1. [NCK] Network lock
2. [SCK] Subset lock
3. [SPCK] SP lock
4. [MCK]
How do I verify if my phone is locked in any of these ways? No sure what they entail to be honest.
Thanks!

Np. Did you have similar circumstances to mine?
=D thanks thanks for the tip. all off here too!
"Personalizatiob Status"?
Is it only me who's seeing "Personalizatiob" on the SIMlock status screen? FW version KE7. Can anyone report a text fix on a different version?
Mine says that is all off, but when I put a SIM from another carrier doesn't work!

What carrier is that? Remember that the phone has to support the type of network as well.
Hi there,
Know this post is a little old but think my brain may explode!
I have a SGS2 and trying to sim unlock it. I have put in this code *#7465625* and says its all unlocked. Thing is it wont pick up the o2 service at all. I tried the unlocking apps and nothing was found or said phone was unlocked. If I make a call says 'Mobile network not available'.
It picks up the o2 APN settings which are all correct I believe, hope someone can help
2nd day of searching but the search still goes on for the answer! (lucky me! lol)
OK if anyone else has this problem might be worth looking into wether the IMEI has been blacklisted mine has!
I used a website called checkmend cost me £1.99 but soooo worth it!
Hopefully shouldn't be a problem returning it to CEX!!!
I have checked my phone, and it says that it is unlocked, everything is [OFF]. Yet when I put another SIM in, the phone won't accept it? How do I know if my phone supports another SIM card or not?

I've got the Gingerbread bootloader, Passion ICS, and I'm (obviously) rooted... Everything on here that I've searched said I should be unlocked, but when I gave the Vibrant to my AT&T bound friend, it doesn't detect her network (or even that the sim card is in the phone, for that matter.
The phone works fine with T-Mobile, and her sim card works alright in my G2X, but could someone clarify what's going on here?
If you call or email T-Mobile they should send you the unlock code.
There's other apps/hacks to unlock bit of a hassle but T-Mobile sent unlock for me quick. Bought phone used too, they don't seem to care much about T-Mobile account or not.

You see, my other AT&T friend had it while it was rooted with Trigger rom on it, and it worked fine for him. I'm thinking it's the bootloader that re-locked it, but I may not know what the hell I'm talking about.

Still didn't work.
--Disregard. How do I check if it's unlocked? *#SIMLOCK# doesn't bring up anything.
Rooting, GB bootloader and ROMs, shoudl have no impact on whether or not you are unlocked, IIRC correctly. Use the Galaxy S Unlock from the market. Run it (correctly) and don't freak out about the black screen. It's only like that for less than a minute. Once it is done and rebooted, let your phone settle down.
Go into your dialer and punch in these *#7465625#
It will give 4 items. You want the top (Network Lock) to be OFF. If it is, then you are unlocked.
Don't rule out the fact that your friends ATT card might be bad or s/he might need a new one.
1. Yes, I have run said app correctly. The first time, I didn't have busybox, but I ran it again with it.
2. *#SIMLOCK# is the same as what you typed, it doesn't bring up the menu, though.
3. Her SIM isn't bad, if you read the OP, you'd know that it works in my G2X (what I didn't mention is that she has her own phone which it works in completely fine, as well.
Mostly, what I want to know now is why *#SIMLOCK# does nothing.
Strange. There is a manual way to unlock it using ADB, but it is pretty intricate with high probability of errors.
I would suggest just calling T-Mo and getting them to give you the unlock code, especially if the apps didn't work for you.
Let me know if you want me to give you the link to the manual way to unlock. Will take me some time to find b/c it isn't in the Vibrant forums at all.
I didn't say it didn't work. I don't have another company's sim to test it with, and *#7465625# doesn't bring up the menu, so I can't check it.

I must have missed that Disregard. Odd that the code won't bring up the menu, though. Do you still need to know if you are rooted though? If the Galaxy S Unlock worked (or even the fact that you could run it at all) then you are rooted. Did you grant it SU permission? If so, there is your answer.
Do you need anything else on this other than someone else's non-TMo sim card?

I didn't mean rooted xD sorry, I meant unlocked. It was 3AM and I still hadn't slept.
I have an idea. Maybe you need to set another set of APNs for ATT. Just a shot but Google ATTs apns and the go into settings>mobile network blah blah APN. Hit menu and add new, the put in what you Googled and don't forget to hit save. Back out and tick the ATT one and see if that works.
Worth a shot.
Thanks, I'll give that a try when I visit my friend again.
Thanks guys, it works now
Can you post your steps Please, I have the same situation and it does not work. I also have the Tmobile unlock code but their provided procedure was not work in ICS passion.
just fyi , I have the vibrant , no longer active on tmo , my worked changed to att , so i thought hell why not.
I rooted using superone click ,
I put the ATT sim card in ,
I dl'ed "Galaxy S Unlocker from market" by DaGentooBoy
I ran it and got error , dl'ed the "pro" version
I ran it and boom , worked like a charm , now phone works on ATT just fine.
I hope that helps someone
tried other methods first , but kept getting permission errors
While you had tried to find out , was simcard in your phone? so this one Galaxy S Unlocker from market worked for you?
thanks

if you try three times and still doesn't unlock, you cant unlock it anymore using a serial number. so if you have tries 3 times and all were unsuccessful then forget about it. call tmobile ask for a replacement phone and unlock the new one they will send u.

Hi all
I am thinking of getting rid of my Galaxy SIi to get one of these. One of the ones I have seen to buy is locked to T mobile so I was wondering if it is possible to unlock these phones as I am on vodagone. If so is it a fairly easy procedure?
Thanks
Impossible at the moment. XPS is a mighty fine device so try swapping w/ some1 or something similar
Impossible? I'm chatting with my phone operator (Telenor) about operatorunlock-code. And as far as I know, the operator-code will make the phone accessible for other operators.
But the issue I got right now is there is no place to enter this long operator-code
I mean: impossible to unlock by yourself if operator doesn't allow unlocking or bills it insanely, and you don't have the money/don't want to pay such amount.

Put in a different operator's sim card and restart the phone.

My problem is that when I use a SIM from another carrier and boot my phone up, I do NOT get this: “SIM network unlock PIN” message. My phone only says "SIM card is locked" and want me to type in PIN.

Seems your SIM card is locked. I remember old phones gave you an option to add a pin code onto the sim card itself. There was a warning that if you forget it you're screwed. Try getting a new SIM from the carrier
Hi all,
I'll explain my situation. I had a work supplied HTC Sensation. The most god-awful handset known to mankind... except the iPhone. I digress. We are on Vodafone UK. When it came to renewing the work phones I was given an "upgrade" iPhone 5s. Long story short, I'm not using it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which was on T-Mobile. I was given it and I thought I'd give it a go as it has to be better than the HTC Sensation.
Firstly I put in my Vodafone SIM. As I expected it didn't work. I have checked the IMEI number and it hasn't been blacklisted. So I thought I'd unlock the phone and root it. I followed the advice in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365701
After the first go of installing Jellybean which is what was on there initially I got to the end, rooted it and it wouldn't unlock using the method given. The method goes on to say that it works with ICS. So, I went through it again and installed ICS. Rooted it. Ran the unlock. Still locked.
Question 1: Is SIM lock the same thing as Network Lock?
At the moment, I have the stock ROM from the above thread for ICS installed. 4.0.3 I think it is. If I put my Vodafone UK SIM in this phone, when I try to make a call it says "Not registered on network". Tried following lots of advice in different threads. None worked. I thought, maybe that it can't register on the network as I am boosting my signal through a Sure Signal. I tried going to a place where I know I would normally get signal and tried doing it there. Still no luck. I keep digging and I come across the DEBUG MENU on the device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882796&page=4
It suggests this:
dial "*#197328640#" to enter debug menu
click "6 [common]"
click "6 [nv rebuild]"
click "2 [erases three partition!]"
Except in the 3rd option there is no menu option 2. I have kept digging and then came across the "Personalizatiob Status" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740167) and it shows this:
Network Lock
[OFF]
Network Subnet Lock
[OFF]
SP Lock
[OFF]
CP Lock
[OFF]
Please note that during all this my Vodafone SIM is NOT in this phone. It is in the HTC Sensation and is working just fine.
Question 2: Do I have to have my SIM in the phone when I do all this?
Question 3: How can I get this phone to register on the network with my existing Vodafone UK SIM that is working just fine?
I've tried the Galaxy S2 Unlock apps on the market store. The unlock code and unfreeze code show gibberish.
What am I missing? I don't actually care for using the stock Samsung ROMs because the phone is way out of warranty anyway. I just want to avoid having to use the iPhone I've been given.
Any advice welcome.
Any advice from anyone?
Cheers.

Nope, haven't tried that one. I will give it a go later on this evening. I've tried a couple of unlockers that have been recommended in other threads and neither have worked. I'll keep you posted.
Any thoughts on the other questions I had on the original post?
With regards to the iPhone, I think I'd rather stick with the HTC Sensation despite its multiple daily crashes/restarts and almost constant need for recharging.
I tried the app and it said everything was unlocked except for CSC Lock. Now, I did some reading on that lock and that seems to be a geographic lock applied by Samsung. As this phone was bought in the UK and I'm putting a UK sim in it, then this won't affect me because both the original TMobile SIM and my Vodafone SIM are UK.
It said my unlock code was 00000000. I doubt it is that, but on the slim chance it is, where do I even put the unlock code in?
Attached is a screenshot of the lock status from GalaxSim by Spocky.
It now shows everything is unlocked. Any ideas?
I can see the sim operator is listed as Vodafone and the registered operator is O2 according to that. Weird as it had a working T-Mobile sim in it prior to my getting it.
Thanks.
Any further ideas? There has to be something I've missed.
Well, I have still not managed to find out why this phone won't connect to the network. Sadly my old HTC Sensation has pretty much now become unusable and I've had no choice but to start using the iPhone provided by my work as I've not been successful in getting the S2 up and running.
I cannot believe just how bad the iPhone is. I've always said they were rubbish from day one despite having never owned one. Now I have one, I can justifiably say that I was correct in that they are dreadful things, however, I didn't quite realise just how rubbish they really are. Now I know.
Hi everyone,
Everytime I open the phone I'm asked to enter a Sim network unlock PIN.
At first I talked with my carrier, which tried to give me few PINs to unlock the network lock, but none of them worked.
After reading a while on the internet (and also as it says on the box) I suspected that this is about the Region Lock samsung implemented in it's new devices.
I bought my device in Europe (and well, I don't live in Europe).
I talked with the shop I bought the device from just to make sure the device is not sim locked, and they claim that they indeed sell only sim free devices, so I turned to Samsung.
After talking with Samsung in the country I bought the device, I was given an unlock PIN, but unfortunately, it doesn't work.
Do you have any idea what could it possibly be?
Maybe I tried too many times wrong PINs and the network is locked now? Don't know already....
P.S.
All the phone features works fine (if I go out of the screen with the PIN request), except for mobile internet and calls of course.
Images attached below.
They claim wrong that my friend is sim locked & you will need to find out what carrier its locked to, that carrier will have specific codes.
At least that is my understanding.

Thanks, but based on what info are you so sure?
I talked with the shop again and they INSIST their devices are sim free.
I need to have some kind of proof to argue that.
And also, I'd like to hear more opinions please...
BUMP - any ideas please?
Have the shop were you bought it from replace the phone or you can call the carrier that the phone is lock to and request the unlock code. It should be very easy to determine that by firmware build number (For example: G925P is Sprint)

Just confirmed it's a G925F... so it's not sim locked, as the shop stated.
This phone is simlocked to a network. You need to find out what network it is locked to then get a unlock code.
Once you enter an unlock code it will be unlocked to all network....

Why can't it be? that is a model number for UK handset but it doesn't mean anything else. All UK and europe (also middle east) models are G925F , some are network locked and some are not.
Accept it and do something about it. Ask for refund or ask the seller to get you unlock code.

Your phone is regionally locked., which means you should unlock it with a Europian SIM card before using in an other country.

What you need to do is check with the shop where the phone came from? Which country the phone was bought. Once you know that you can try different sims (they are freely available from providers or ask your friends). The unlock code is a combination of Phone IMEI number and the network so you need that information.
Let me know how you get on...
