did it on my tablet and it "seems" faster someone tell me if its not just my imagination
you just used CMW zip? on what ROM?
worked for me. stock tab with pershoot kernel apps load faster. its like a dream come true
I flashed it via cwm on bonsai Rom. Can't say I really notice a difference. Couldn't have hurt though.
pretty sure that script does nothing more than what autokiller has been doing for years (with more options + gui + market app)... http://andrs.w3pla.net/autokiller

If you read the whole thing, you would know that it also changes the virtual memory for each app. This helps with multitasking, exiting and closing apps, etc.
So, it does more than Autokiller does. For me its faster and it doesn't crash my phone or tablet so, I like it.

No idea what that means. Apart from the lowmemorykiller tweaks all I see it changing are some swap / cache write parameters (this are properties of the system vm space not each apps'), most of which is handled in the advanced tweaks section in autokiller. Not to mention the autokiller advanced tweaks also deal with polling parameters of services other than just memory management. It's the more complete, tried and tested solution.
did it on bonsai with CWM yea i dont notice it but doesnt hurt...
Just flashed ona stock, and rooted tab. Ui transitions are improved, but have yet to test serious multitasking.
Guys this will probably not offer any performance improvements considering the highest page size limit set is at 72MB. The GT10.1 has 1GB of RAM, I doubt the tiny low memory page limits set by this script will have any effect.
I would suggest more appropriate page numbers, but it would be better if you just used autokiller over modifying a script like this, it does the same thing but with a GUI like I have already mentioned in the thread. The only advantage this script may have is that settings apply on boot so it could potentially improve boot speed (which is insignificant to me atleast)
Hmm, and I immediately noticed a difference with more free ram. Before, and it would tank, and and slow everything up. I but maybe with that app or some tweaks it could be even better for us!

Just flashed it on bonsai with touchwiz and using it for past 24 hrs. Runs beautifully whether its a placebo or not i notice it and I love it.
Like most of us on here, we want a Fast, Stable, Usable Rom for our Dell Streaks and I am just like you in wanting that as well. I have tried most, if not all of the different flavors available for the Streak from stock to custom. What I decided to do was to take a stock image and make it faster and better. So after many trial and errors, weeks of research and testing, I came up with Longhorn. It is not by any means a final solution for the Streak, but a constant project of mine. So I will maintain it and upgrade it when I find a new way to make it better. I am open to suggestions as well.
Longhorn is fully customizable and is a good canvas to start with. It is based on Stock 354, and had all of the bloat-ware removed. Then slowly added different tweaks and custom Longhorn theme to make it what it is today.
What it has:
Longhorn 1.0 is overclocked to 1.267 thanks to DJ Steve’s kernel (works great without overclocking, but good to have if needed)
Rooted
Minimally installed Software
Net and system speed tweaks
I would like to thank all of those that have contributed to the making of this. It is kind of a Frankenstein made up of small bits and pieces that I have found from all over. Most of the credit goes to Dj Steve, Krad, Spidla, Mid_Life_Crisis, Chrisrotolo, NickShertzer, Frysee ,and everyone else I can’t recall. You guys rock!!
Longhorn 1.3 has;
Based on Stock 354 due to some installation issues for some
a few more Kernel tweaks
New Theme
updated APKs, Fonts and Boot Animation

The quadrant score u are getting is when your streak is overclocked? Can you run it at stock frequency and what's quadrant at stock?
Sent from the SuperStreak! ;-)
Very excited to try this one . I am currently on Fards 2.3.3 I get the random reboot here and there other than that it has been working great just wish it was faster . Hope this is the one.
I love the Orange background wallpapper! Can you link that also please?
Can't wait to try out your kernel. SS 1.2 @1.19GHz.has always been my baseline for how fast a game could load.
Its great to see another ROM for the streak being released! I will give this one a shot later today!
Thanks tenorntex!
Well Done! Looks very nice. 1267 OC hasn't been stable since DJ Steves 1.6.1.
I would really like to give this a try, but this Husker is having a hard time installing anything orange!
Go Big Red!!!

In looking through your zip. I noticed that you have chosen to leave out security.apk. I don't know much about it, but the name sounds important. Is there any potential problem by not having security.apk? Thanks for replying.

1289.
According to Quadrant Standard -> System Information, the frequency is 998,4 (I don`t have any other appropriate program installed at the moment).
Better to include any file manager for the beginning.
@Kraz
I have been using this daily for about 2-3 weeks with out any issues with that file missing. It is an engineering mode security file, and since I removed all of the engineering mode APK's it went away as well.

Post-Install Update:
Installation is VERY fast...about 30 seconds. Installed over SimpleStreak 1.2 with PerfUpdate. Under 3 minutes to boot up the first time. Almost nothing had visually changed, which is good. My wallpaper etc. was the same. Only the orange status bar gave it away. Status bar icons are similar to what I had cooked in UTC. Chrisrotolo's settings screen. Notification dropdown has live action and looks good!
Overclocked to 1267 with no problem. Ran 8 quads: lowest==>1444 highest==>1920. About the same as SS1.2 running at 1190. LCD density is 200. Looks great and my tired old eyes can see everything well.
Phone is HC (chrisrotolo's?) and looks good. Works better than anything I have used yet. Hangs up a call instantly and returns to home screen per my On Call End app. My ICE lockscreen works properly for the first time also. So far everything works amazingly well. I did remove Swype, LauncherPro and a few other apps I don't plan on using. The included Market is a very old v2.1.2 and doesn't recognize that any of my apps are installed. They are however, and work well.
My only CON so far is the speed and potential battery usage due to having OC 1267. The speed is no better than SS 1.2 OC 1190. OC 1190 should yield better battery life than OC 1267, but I will have to use Loghorn 1.0 longer to find out.
One more thing.....NO FC"S SO FAR!!!!!!!!! woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you tenorntex. WELL DONE SIR!!!!!!
kraz
That is true as with any form of overclocking. Speed = Battery Life. I am hoping to figure a way to increase the I/O speed to compensate, but that version is not anywhere stable yet.
Just to clarify...I wasn't complaining. Only observing.
Thanks for the obviously hard work!
kraz
I didn't take it that way at all. I was just doing some wishful thinking in a future release that I am working on.
Well done, mate.
I don't know if really the OC is any worth , considering the battery drain and CPU stress , while the benchmark difference between 2.3.3 without OC with this kennel is just nothing.

Make sure you don't have a SetCpu profile that is in effect.
ok switched to cpu master working good now but noticed there is no contacts icon
I added your rom the the master list on the wiki
Feel free to correct any details if something is off.
As your rom is based on 354 I would recommend NOT directly flashing the 354 amss/dsp1 and using the pkg if you still need to update to it.
This is my general advise for anything but SD 2.3
Rom is very fast is there any way to get the contacts apk for this?
So.
I've took a look at DJ_Steve's work on kernel. As i need stock stability, but would like to do some slight changes, here they are:
+ Volume boost hack - increase allowed driver maximum. I can feel it on speaker on incoming calls, at least.
+ Slight overclock to 1075,2MHz. I've simply replaced values in frequency table, and not sure if it working at all. Doesn't break anything though.
How it's done? Modified stock kernel binary.
Here it is:
http://n0p.8bit.fm/streak/354VOL.zip
This update will also replace your postboot script, so save it before flashing.

This work is dedicated to my died kitten, it was really ill for a week and died at 12 october...
Sorry to hear about your kitten.
Thanks for the kernel. I like seeing more and more people active in the development for this great device. One of these days I hope to delve into kernel building myself.
Thank you. I just needed something to concentrate on...
Thank you for the Modded Kernel. I am glad to see others that are venturing out and trying new skills. Kudos Sir.
I would really like to get some feedback. Do you really feel volume boost?
I will try it shortly and let you know.
EDIT: So far it seems to work fine. It does appear to be louder, but not overpowering. More testing will be needed to be certain later today. I did modify the init.streak.post_boot.sh file prior to installing the zip. ( just to add what I already had, so I could tell if there was a difference.
Does anybody know where I can all thee stock dump files? I see a lot of people talking about 351, 354, 360.....what are the differences of each? Is there an advantage from one to the other? I in some respect do prefer the stock ron but without all the bloat ware of course....but that I can remove my self once I have that dump file so I can modify it....sorry.just a little new to the stresk scene, my previous phone and still present is my beloved Sony Xperia X10a

This has been said a bunch of times:

I like to think that the stuff I have linked in my signature might also be useful.
@ _n0p_ : the music hack seems very interesting. will there be any more updates on this? Maybe a performance mod like in 351? thanks for your work!!
Actually, "Performance fix" is DJ_Steve's kernel, which has Brain **** Scheduler and overclock patch applied. Why don't you use it?My point was keeping the stock one with simple binary change - as Dell don't provide sources.
--
Right now i'm using StreakDroid 2.4 (modded myself) - main change is almost (at least I didn't encounter any in two days) absent random reboots.
@_n0p_
just wanna verify if this kernel contains lowmemorykiller? because almost all custom roms don't have it... I have modded simplestreak 1.3 beta 4 and come up with let_the_game_begins v1.0 which composed of the following:
Theme: GingerKrad
Baseband: 403 (from StreakDroid 2.3 by fards)
Tweaks: ltgbnitro tweaks (collaboration of tweaks i used before with LG O1 P500, Samsung Galaxy Ace & the Nitro Lag Nullifier of V6 Supercharger)
Added some picked ringtones & notifications from Zedge
Default BootAnimation: DukeOS Duke Nukem Forever
The only concern i have in mind is the lowmemorykiller not available from different custom roms except for the stock ones..

I've modified stock kernel binary.
Ok so I asked this question in another thread, but it really wasn't the correct place to ask. Plus i will update it to include more of what i actually know. (Which isn't much btw) =]
I have been using meanRom for a while now, and the newest version (MeanROM ICS v2.4) is eating my battery too quickly. I was wondering if there was a way to either disable dual cores from being in effect while all the time when the screen is on or reduce the processor speed (ie remove over clocking or over clock it a bit less) to try and save some battery.
I have never attempted to change CPU max speed or change the number of cores being used before so i don't know where to start. I thought I read somewhere you can edit the settings in a file, but A. I don't know which file. and B. I don't know how.
I don't mind just having one core always running and I can edit the file and reboot to enable the 2nd core if necessary, however doing it on the fly like below would be pretty cool
On a side note:
I saw in inbREDed 5.2.5 they have a "Core control in quicksettings, change to dual/single core on the fly". Is that available to use in MeanROM?
Any help would be appreciated.

Best place to ask this is in the MeanROM ICS thread. MeanROM doesn't have overclocking ability right now due to the stock kernel so that isn't your issue. Ask over in that thread and I bet you'll get help
I can't I don't have enough posts to ask in that thread. =\
Update: Apparently I can now post in there. Just asked in there. =]
REQUIREMENTS.
MUST BE ROOTED WITH RECOVERY.
HAVE INIT.D SUPPORT for method 1.
HAVE TERMINAL EMULATOR for method 2.
NOTE: This may work for all android devices but is only tested on a LG D851. The mod will install on all devices but may give unwanted results. If it works let us know.
GENERAL DISCLAIMER.
XDA and I are NOT responsible if anything wrong happens to your device by using this mod. Always make sure you have a backup ready if needed.
ABOUT THIS MOD.
Here is a very simple mod that I wanted to share. This is what has been labeled in the past as the build property to remove a FPS cap on all android devices. This doesn't actually do that but you will see an increase in frames per second by adjusting the EGL swap interval. Unfortunately, this property has always had big issues with visual artifacts that made it useless to use.
I found it frustrating that we could obtain such a high FPS but plagued with issues. So I spent some time and found a new value. One that could actually work on all android devices. Instead of 1 for stock or 0 for modified. Here is the new value...
debug.egl.swapinterval=-60
A general description...
https://www.khronos.org/registry/egl/sdk/docs/man/html/eglSwapInterval.xhtml
While other negative values may work, -60 brought the most bang for the buck when it came to benchmarks. I am truly excited about finding a way to make it work and although it's just a new value, I would appreciate if you could give me credit if using this property as it is the first time it will actually work the way we want it. This value didn't just fall from the sky. Certainly no need to ask for any permissions.
WAYS TO USE THIS MOD.
I figured many people would at least like to try this out so I made it as easy as possible for newer and more advanced users. The mod is actually really easy to apply. Simply add it to your build.prop file and reboot or use one of methods below.
METHOD 1.
Use the proper flashable zip to install into init.d so the mod is ready directly after a reboot.
METHOD 2. (recommended)
Use the proper flashable zip to install into /system/xbin and call upon it when needed and disable it when not needed.
INSTALLATION.
Method 1
version 1.1
1. Download https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952603390
2. Flash in recovery.
3. Reboot.
METHOD 2.(recommended)
version 1
1. Downloadhttps://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952602432
2. Flash in recovery.
3. After you reboot open Terminal Emulator and type the following without the quotes.
4. Type "su" and press the enter key.
5. Type "unlockfps" and press enter. This will activate the property for higher fps.
To deactivate type "lockfps"
NOTE: You may need to toggle your screen off/on to fully activate the mod using method 2.
You will also need to activate the mod again after a reboot. The setting won't survive a reboot with method 2.
UNINSTALL
METHOD 1.

CHANGELOG
Method 1 version 1.1- Fixed permissions.
I have had people tell me battery life is better and some say it's worse. You be the judge and let us know.
Happy Flashing!
These zips will flash on any device, so If you have something other than an LG G3 you can try it. If you choose to try I definitely suggest using method 2. This way if you run into trouble all you need to do is reboot and the mod is disabled.
PLEASE!
IF YOU TRY THIS MOD ON ANOTHER DEVICE LET US KNOW HOW IT WORKS!!
So far I have positive reports for Samsung and Sony devices.
thanks bro. gonna try it on my vs985
Installed on my D855 and it improves animation speed an in overall system fluidness. I'm using it in combination with LSpeed tweak and working perfect, for battery impact, if there will be one, will see after daily use. Thanks for this my phone is flaying, so to speak.

Yea. I thought it was only going to work in games and such but it seems to make everything a little quicker and smoother. Scrolling etc... I wasn't expecting that.
after installing unlockfps antutu score not bad, using darkknight rom.
getting around 42+++ on antutu as well. & yes, everything seem much snappier, considering i got shedloads of listview, ime & toast animations (xuimod/xposed, ftw!).
good example is gosms. starting the app uncached is almost instantaneous. then when i go to a long thread (conversations w/ wifey, go figure) i could really say that load time is quicker than before the mod. close to 1 batt cycle & i don't notice any unusual drain.
tried it on my T700 as well. i'm getting the same results, though antutu scores don't agree. didn't explode so far. btw, does enabling hw/gpu acceleration negate this? or is it the other way around?

This mod is amazing! the before and after is huge. My phone already felt really fluid but after installing this is flies--apps open instantly and animations are like butter.
Thank you so much for sharing this with the community. Everyone needs to flash this because the difference it makes is amazing.

I combined method 1 with Velocity set to 4300 and a few other tweaks to build.prop, and made this phone run like butter. Only place where I see stutter is on Facebook, but is better than before the mod.

Both tests after reboot
Why was it locked in the first place?
is this different from the one found in hidden menu? the dynamic lcd refresh on/off - enable 60fps

You don't need to add anything permanent to the build.prop file. These methods will do it on the fly for you.
