It should be on development forum but I'm haven't enough posts.
I have HTC Gratia with CM7 nightly. Here my filesystem (using df -h)
/system Size: 240 Mb Used:115 Mb
/data Size: 185.1 Mb Used:114 Mb
/cache Size: 40 Mb Used: 1.1 Mb
There too much free space on /system and low space on /data. Is it possible to change partitions size?
For example:
/system: 170 Mb
/cache: 30 Mb
/data: 265 Mb (because software and huge dalvik-cache)

No.
There are some methods out there for repartitioning internal memory on different devices but I don't know whether any of them work on the Liberty.
thx
is there any possibility to recreate this partitions (e. g. delete and create) with fdisk without turning device into a brick?
it looks like it needs Darktremor a2sd
i use s2e to move dalvik to sd
no performance loss(class 4 8 gig)
i too would like to know how to do this
also DTa2SD doesnt resize partitions on your device

Somewhere I saw parted for android. It can resize partitions but I don't know will phone boot after that. My knowledges about that are low.
P.S. Sorry for my English
UPD: Now I moved some programs from /data/app to /system/app and some programs work well. But I don't like this method.

When you make partition in your SD card, you must know the maximum size for the partition. I tried to googling it (it's hard to find the best information) and finally, i got informations about it.
(IMPORTANT) For best performance, use SD Card with class 10!
For ext4, it has maximum size 2GB.
For swap, it has maximum size depends on your RAM and multiplied it by 2. ACE has (256MB) so the best swap size is about 400-512MB.
I've tried by myself, i have SDCard 8GB and i make partition for ext4 system 1.8GB and swap size about 496MB and it works fine, i've no problem with my SD Card.
You can check my Customization in this link :

This thread is just an info. Sorry if this is repost.
PS : If anyone find out the wrong things about the size number, please let me know. Thanks

Thanks for your info. I just edited the post, more detail about the SD card class that should be use.
Well..Using swap is ok,but some people has had problems with their ace when they used swap partition..So,its recommended not to use it

What kind of problem? I think if you make partition your SD card with right step, there will be no problem about it. So far, this swap function is truly increase my performance.
I think you should say that Swap partition is only for Darktremor script's users because I use S2E tool for moving apps to my SD card instead and I can't use a swap partition in my system!
Also, thank you very much for your info!

when using dtapp2sd and a2sdgui, I can see the swap partition status.
now I am using S2E and freespace, I can not see the swap partition usage. no idea it is used but can not see the status, or it is not used.

Hi adamziomal, you could configure and check swap with this free app: Swapper 2 (for Root users) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lv.n3o.swapper2

system partition is 1 gb afaik, not sure about the data partition.
I would really like to know this as well.
S2 had a 2gb partition for apps. 11-12 gb for user data.
I wish Android didn't need separate partition for apps. If the device advertise 16 gb of data, give us 16gb of data to use for anything. I find that ridiculous.
I hope they got rid of the partition for apps. If not, I hope they increase the space limit.

I need the same, specially after the infinite reboot bug of the S2 and the note.
Galaxy nexus have only one daat partition of 16gb but.. i dont want a nexus.
I too hope the SIII have one partition, but looking at SII and Note running ICS, I don't think it is likely.
P.S. HTC One X (ICS) also have 2GB for apps and 25GB for user storage.

I bought the phone last night. Installed 16gb class 10 sd card. Can access it only throught builtin file manager not OIbrowser. Also can't shift apps to SD card even after rooting and using app2sd. The optino to move doenst show.
There is single partition now with about 10gb available and 1.1gb in use.

what about installing on extSD? Any option or software?
Unless you install 11 gig of apps there's no news. Move your files to the as card and keep the nand memory for apps.
I saw one at store a few days back, and to me it seemed that on a 16GB model, it shows approx 14GB space in applications management. At that time it showed 0.9GB used and 13+ GB free.
Here is the output of df -h, I am using Omega v7.1, don't think it messes around with the partitions, hope it helps:

No, they belong physically to the same partition. The internal sdcard is a subfolder inside data, so you can't actually use Mass Storage mode because you won't be able to unmount data partition while the operating system is running.
Take a look here:
[GUIDE] MTP and PTP (Media Transfer Protocol) vs UMC (Mass Storage Class)
/sdcard is mounted to /data/media and can totally be "umount" ed....
it's a different file system. They use FUSE to put an exFAT fs inside ext4

I said that you can't umount data, not sdcard, which can do umount, but can't access it from the computer in Mass Storage Mode, right?
Mass storage mode is not an option on the S3. The fact that you cannot umount /data is irrelevant. You wouldn't need to because /sdcard is its own filesystem

No, its possible, you would need to write a script which automounts the ext4 partition at boot as vold won't do that and fixes permissions, as you would get lots of fcs without.

i think he talks about formatting the whole sdcard with ext4 and mount that partition as sdcard for performance purposes. Correct me if i'm wrong, but thats how i understood that post. I actually tried the same a few months ago, there really seems to be increased perfomance of the sdcard and using fat32 on a linux devices doesn't make too much sense for me anyways.

yes thats my question...
I always try and use ext4 in my sd cards. Performance seems to be better. The only reason I ever use FAT32 is so that I can view content in Windows.
No sir. U have to use a partitioning tool to format your SD vard. I am a noob. Learned this technique in xda. It's called a "minitool partition wizard home edition". U can create different number of formats all primary though. I used ext4 for a long time. But now I use ext2. The computer only recognises the first primary partition. So the ext2/4 will not be recognised by the pc and with the help of link2sd or data2sd U'll be able to use it as your internal memory if your phone memory is really tiny. It's related to performance but first its related to expanding your internal memory.

I've done some research, but haven't found what I'm looking for. To cope with the memory limitation of my phone, I move some apps to Rom with titanium explorer. Does the rom use the rom partition free space for something? Writting cache, and so on? I have a Xperia J and a X10 mini pro, and they both have around 20 Mb of free space on the ROM. Is it ok? Is there a "safe threshold"?
Thanks

ROM is actually installed on /system partition, and by default its mounted as R/O (Read-Only). So cache won't be written inside /system partition and it will be stored in phone's internal memory. The ROM free space remains free like that which is unused space.

You can't increase ram or internel storage.
But you can create ext partition and link apps there via link2SD
And you may try to use swap partition if you want.

Man. it is so easy.
Just create a small ext3 partition to link your apps there.
You need your SD card to be fat primary partition ( except some MBs to be ext3 partition. )
Use mini tool partition wizard or do it from the recovery which will be easier for you.
and swap is not so important , set it to zero if you want.
27gb fat32 1gb for ext2.. Fast as hell and heaven.. I got 270-300++ internal memory.. 200mb ram.. Feel like trying swap but i scared my sd dead.. Hoho

Hmmm....you need to make 3 partition for your SD card if you want to use swap.....
First partition is FAT32 (must be primary) this partition is for your main storage....
Second partition is ext2,ext3 or ext 4 (must be primary) this partition is for install apps that link using link2SD or Mount2SD....
Third partition is Linux Swap....this partition is for swap (increase ram/performances)
Now all partition size you will make is depend on how you want it....basically 256mb for linux swap is enough but 512mb is recommended is you have SD sizes 16GB and above....for second partition 1GB is enough for installing apps....if you planing to install plenty of apps then 2GB is recommended only if you SD sizes is 16GB and above....for the first partition is what sizes left after your make all partition needed....
remember Swap will not be available right after you have partition is....you need swap scripts to make is available....

Of course you can increase ram performance by increasing swap and can increase your internal storage by partitioning your sd card, but might decrease the read or write speed of your system as sd card is not as fast as internal memory of your phone

first SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH . lol
im never login this account since 2 years ago.
to increase phone memory u can use application "LINK2SD" but, before u use it, i recommend u to make additional partition with ext2/4.
to increase ram maybe u can use with virtual ram. It not give big differents but for games it would be better.
i have MANUAL step to increase virtual memory ( such as adding secondary ram)
1. Download swap file ww*w.media*fire.c*om/?7pszmgi85sucuuc. Remove * . The password is "crescendo"
2. Extract it so from 800kb will be 800mb eace
3. Choose 1 from 3 files size for swap that u want ( up to you )
4. Copy file to /sdcard
5. U can type on "Terminal Emulator"
for example im using with 256mb size :
- to turned on swap
su
swapON sdcard/swap256
- to turned off swap
su
swapOFF sdcard/swap256
-) the green number can be changed and adjust it with size u want.
sorry if u dnt undestand. i cnt speak english well. lol
