When you make partition in your SD card, you must know the maximum size for the partition. I tried to googling it (it's hard to find the best information) and finally, i got informations about it.
(IMPORTANT) For best performance, use SD Card with class 10!
For ext4, it has maximum size 2GB.
For swap, it has maximum size depends on your RAM and multiplied it by 2. ACE has (256MB) so the best swap size is about 400-512MB.
I've tried by myself, i have SDCard 8GB and i make partition for ext4 system 1.8GB and swap size about 496MB and it works fine, i've no problem with my SD Card.
You can check my Customization in this link :

This thread is just an info. Sorry if this is repost.
PS : If anyone find out the wrong things about the size number, please let me know. Thanks

Thanks for your info. I just edited the post, more detail about the SD card class that should be use.
Well..Using swap is ok,but some people has had problems with their ace when they used swap partition..So,its recommended not to use it

What kind of problem? I think if you make partition your SD card with right step, there will be no problem about it. So far, this swap function is truly increase my performance.
I think you should say that Swap partition is only for Darktremor script's users because I use S2E tool for moving apps to my SD card instead and I can't use a swap partition in my system!
Also, thank you very much for your info!

when using dtapp2sd and a2sdgui, I can see the swap partition status.
now I am using S2E and freespace, I can not see the swap partition usage. no idea it is used but can not see the status, or it is not used.

Hi adamziomal, you could configure and check swap with this free app: Swapper 2 (for Root users) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lv.n3o.swapper2
Cheers. Good luck.

Yes it's true, if you have swap partition on SD card with dtapps2sd installed and enabled in Tweaks. But it's not enough without a kernel with swap support

Swap is an extension of your phone or PC's RAM. That means the linux swap is in a pc, a part of your hard disk will be used as RAM.
So for phones, a part of SD card will be used as RAM. This is good for those who have a class 6+ SD cards.

So does that mean that as long as the kernel itself doesn't support swap, it doesn't matter whether the GUI recognizes the Swap partition since it wont be able to use it anyway?
Which leaves the question, does the CF-Root kernel support Swap?
Tap-a-talked from my Galaxy Ace
What is the ideal size for Swap partition? I have 16GB Micro SD Card (Class 10). Please help.
as far as I know, value of swappiness is set to 0-100. which mean if you set value to 0, the phone will prevent to use your swap, and if you set to 100, your phone will force to use more swap instead your ram. Now I'm using my swappiness to 50
up to you how big partition swap size is. I was checked on A2SD GUI and it's never use >50MB swap. So I think 40-80MB is good enough for you.
sorry for my bad english
Hi to All !!
this is an aplication for make swap in your device but
what is swap?
swapper is an application that uses part of the SD memory to generate more virtual memory and see your performance improve
THIS NO WORK ON STOCK KERNEL YOU NEED UNLOCK BOOTLOADER AND YES THIS WORKS IN CM7 AND CM9 YOU DON'T HAVE TO PARTITION THE SD CARD
instructions to install:
download swapper from here
screenshot
after install the app, launch the app and writes on the white line of what you want your swap, remember that selecting an amount doubles for example: You CHOOSE 300 mb of memory, those 300 will become 600 and 400 to 800 and on
screenshot]
when the swap is this turning takes 5 to 10 minutes and NOT TURN OFF THE SCREEN WHY THE PROCESS CAN LEAVE BAD
remember that you must deactivate the swap to connect the USB cable and then turn it back on, disconnect the phone also restart is disabled, enter only put "deactivate swap" and put "save", then re-enter and to "activate swap "and" save "
also if you have a 4GB SD memory of 300 MB is recommended to 600 if the device is not encouraging, and 8GB of 300 to 800, I use 700 MB for swap and is very fast
before swap
with swap
IF YOU HAVE MINICM9 GO TO SETTINGS - PERFORMANCE - MEMORY MANAGEMENT AND DISABLE ZRAM
sorry for the images.... i don't know how put a preview but is there
That's what I was looking for.

But swap file should have bigger swappiness, "Swapper" gives only 10, which is almost nothing IMO... unless you can find something to activate bigger swappiness (except Swapper 2, it's pain in ass).
Note: You need to disable Compcache/zRAM as those features use swap too, causing conflicts. After enabling swap, make sure to check in some app where you can see memory details that swap is running on your defined size, it might be possible that there's no swap space or that zRAM/Compcache is still active instead.
I don't understand, i activate the swap( like you said) but, my memory free is just 28mb... i make a swap of 512mb( 16gb SD Card)...
Why?
To see if it works you need to type 'free' in terminal emulator. AFAIK swap must be supported by kernel and some custom kernels support it.
making swap using cwm
i am telling you another way of making swap without the swapper app
AND PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SDCARD ON YOUR PC BEFORE USING THIS METHOD
for this you must have clockworkmod recovery on your phone
just go to cwm recovery by pressing back botton when starting the phone
then go to ‘advance‘ using vol down key and press menu to enter then go to ‘partition sd card‘ and make partition of your choice
to confirm open ‘terminal emulator‘ and write ‘free‘ hit enter
yuppyyy you got
and please make a back of your sd card on computer as this will format your sd card
press the thanks botton if you think i helped you

you have all the reason, the app for check is setcpu in info-memory, or terminal emulator typing "free"

In your config you can either use compcache or swap. If you want swap it's easiest to create swap partition via cwm recovery (backup content of sd first!) and disable compcache via cm settngs

Good morning, I'm new in rom and kernel flashing: I started a week ago looking for a trick to increase the internal memory of my xperia ray.
I read a lot in forums, I've also tried to follow suggestions on how to create ext partitions on the sd card in order to increase internal memory, but nothing!
Only a lot of problems inrom/kernel incompatibility, bootloops... quite frustating.
Now I'm using ROM Ultimate HD 3.0.2, and CTcaer 2.6 Kernel.
But my final goal is to increase the internal memory with a part of my sd card (Samsung 16GB class 10).
Any suggestions? I tried int2extv2+, but the memory size didn't changed. Maybe I'm using a wrong kernel.
Please help.
Thank you very much

Just one question: is there a limit for the ext partiotion size?

But you can create ext partition and link apps there via link2SD
And you may try to use swap partition if you want.

Man. it is so easy.
Just create a small ext3 partition to link your apps there.
You need your SD card to be fat primary partition ( except some MBs to be ext3 partition. )
Use mini tool partition wizard or do it from the recovery which will be easier for you.
and swap is not so important , set it to zero if you want.
27gb fat32 1gb for ext2.. Fast as hell and heaven.. I got 270-300++ internal memory.. 200mb ram.. Feel like trying swap but i scared my sd dead.. Hoho

Hmmm....you need to make 3 partition for your SD card if you want to use swap.....
First partition is FAT32 (must be primary) this partition is for your main storage....
Second partition is ext2,ext3 or ext 4 (must be primary) this partition is for install apps that link using link2SD or Mount2SD....
Third partition is Linux Swap....this partition is for swap (increase ram/performances)
Now all partition size you will make is depend on how you want it....basically 256mb for linux swap is enough but 512mb is recommended is you have SD sizes 16GB and above....for second partition 1GB is enough for installing apps....if you planing to install plenty of apps then 2GB is recommended only if you SD sizes is 16GB and above....for the first partition is what sizes left after your make all partition needed....
remember Swap will not be available right after you have partition is....you need swap scripts to make is available....

Of course you can increase ram performance by increasing swap and can increase your internal storage by partitioning your sd card, but might decrease the read or write speed of your system as sd card is not as fast as internal memory of your phone

first SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH . lol
im never login this account since 2 years ago.
to increase phone memory u can use application "LINK2SD" but, before u use it, i recommend u to make additional partition with ext2/4.
to increase ram maybe u can use with virtual ram. It not give big differents but for games it would be better.
i have MANUAL step to increase virtual memory ( such as adding secondary ram)
1. Download swap file ww*w.media*fire.c*om/?7pszmgi85sucuuc. Remove * . The password is "crescendo"
2. Extract it so from 800kb will be 800mb eace
3. Choose 1 from 3 files size for swap that u want ( up to you )
4. Copy file to /sdcard
5. U can type on "Terminal Emulator"
for example im using with 256mb size :
- to turned on swap
su
swapON sdcard/swap256
- to turned off swap
su
swapOFF sdcard/swap256
-) the green number can be changed and adjust it with size u want.
sorry if u dnt undestand. i cnt speak english well. lol

You can have any size for the ext partition. But bigger the size you have, laggier the system will become. As per script, 100 MB internal is needed for every 500 MB of ext partition. So its best to have an ext partition of maximum 1 GB. Hope I Helped
