If anyone needs a stock nandroid image (with root),
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YWQJRO90
There is no need to flash this unless you messed up or just want to go back to stock (with root).
instructions:
DO NOT install it as update.zip . you are supposed to unzip the file after you download it and place the folder called 2010-09-21.18.31.12 in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup then you boot into cwm and goto backup and restore -> restore -> 2010-09-21.18.31.12
what is this nandroid ? stock image ? i mean im new to android and i keep seeing nandroid but im not sure what it does

Nandroid makes a complete backup of your phone, all your data, apps, everything. It's like it takes a snapshot of your phone, and when you restore it your phone will be back to the exact state of when you made the backup.
The image i posted will take your phone back to what it was like when you pulled it out of the package, except with root. In order to use nandroid, you have to flash the cwm kernel and install the recovery for your phone through rom manager.

yeah, you will have to put the information for your gmail account back in, restore anything from titanium. It's completely stock, it has no user infomation on it.

Ok, so I am getting my Fascinate tomorrow (can't wait by the way). I have been cruising the forums doing my research before I attempt to root, flash CWM recovery, etc. I am completely unfamiliar with with using Odin, but have used nandroid via Amon's recovery on my Droid Eris (which is running Froyo by the way).
Here's my question: how do I apply this image? Do I have to be rooted first, or can I go ahead and apply this zip and never have to fool with Oden? I just want to be sure I don't make a mistake. Eris development was firmly established by the time I arrived on the scene, so I have not had to worry about these kinds of things. Sorry if this seems like a noob question?

nope, the update is not compatible with root right now. Wait for a dev to release the root friendly vzw update.

I really appreciate the prompt response. I think I am going to wait until a dev develops a root friendly vzw update. Or I may go ahead and root and wait till then ..... decisions, decisions
I saw where you posted that some Sticky topics need to be compiled, wasupwithuman. I could not agree more. A couple more questions for you (maybe these will help someone else too) .... (1) How stable is CWM on the Fascinate? I read somewhere that it is a duct-taped together recovery that will do for now. Is this true??? (2) Should I just wait for a dev to develop a custom recovery (like Amon's on the Eris), or is CWM stable enough as it currently is? There seems to be some confusion about this from topic to topic. (3) This is unrelated, but has anyone confirmed Wireless Tether working on their Fascinate. I believe I read that it was somewhere else, but would like to know for sure. Thanks again!!!
P.S. - First link is down, but I found another guide on XDA and will probably just follow it (considering it uses adb which I am familiar with from my Eris).
Hello everyone. I'm very sorry for the question, but I really have read lots of topics about Odin, KIES, Voodoo, Lag-fix, latest Nandroid Backup and everything and it's impossible to arrange such a large amount of info.
I received my Vibrant from the US and now I have it (unlocked - accepts any SIM card), but unrooted, with the 2.1 Eclair on it. It has everything set to defaults.
I really want to have it running Froyo. I'm an experienced user that comes from the HTC Polaris scene, but you know, each model is a whole world. I didn't ever had a Samsung Smartphone, so I'm not familiarized with the tools, methods, SPLs...
Please, guide me to the right way. I tried to follow some tutorials, but the appear to be outdated nowadays.
Thanks a lot for the ones that are reading this. I will try to be useful as soon as I get this working.

Yea this is wrong section for sure, you want Q and A, but instead of being a jackass like the guy above ill answer what I can. Odin is used for flashing roms or returning your phone back to its pretty stock rooted self, KIES is just some program samsung has to manage your phone and your internal and external cards on it, Voodoo seems to be fading away in light of the new OCLF one click lag fix.
A good rom to start on is something bionix, fusion does not have the samsung touchwiz and final does. You will want to download ROMmanager from market, use it to install clockwork, copy your rom to your internal sd card, then using rom manager pick the reboot option, you will be taken to the default recovery the first time, using the volume button go down and select reinstall packages and it will take you to clockwork, navigate through it to find the rom you copied to your sd card, flash away. Once you are done with that the roms posts have steps to set up the one click lag fix which will make your phone fly like a damn hellbat compared to samsung bottlenecked factory one.
As far as froyo goes, just be patient is my motto, the ones that they have finally have gps working but still have some issues that are not quite ironed out, hopefully we should be seeing a real asop froyo by the end of this month, if you just want it for the flash you can find flash for 2.1 scattered around the interwebs. Good luck have fun, dont brick.

Yes this is the wrong section AND WE ALL GET IT. Enough said, there shouldn't be more people saying this lol..
The froyos have GPS and everything now.
Seriously though
1.) Root your phone. There are a few good ways to do this, I recommend THIS way.
2.) Install "Rom Manager" from the market. Once installed, click the first button at the top and select Vibrant. (When it asks for permission, allow it.)
3.) Select your ROM of choice.
Eugene373's Froyo (Macnut)
My Axura Froyo (I am going to include all the fixes later this week, right now it is not recommended.)
TeamWhiskeys Obsidian Froyo
AnderDroid's AOSPish Froyo
4.) Download the ROM and put it on your internal card. (Don't rename or anything, leave it in it's .zip file)
5.) Go into Rom Manager, Select install ROM, select the .zip that you downloaded.
6.) It will install, and you will have a fully running amazingly custom ROM! < That didn't come out right

OK! I have an application titled "OCLF". With it, I installed the ext2 tools, but the "lag fixes" are all unavailable because and the reason it says is that "I might have it enabled already" since /system/bin/playlogos1 is less than 5 KB. Does the Bionix 1.2 build have the lag fix included? :S I didn't applied any fix after flashing it.
Thanks in advance!

Hi belishi7! I have managed to install the lag fix using OCLF (from the Market).
Install ext2 tools
Restore Boot Animation
Apply OneClickLagFix V2.2+ (it takes more than 2 minutes)
Done! I will reboot and it's all running
CAUTION: I did this without any other fix (I've heard something about a Voodoo kernel, but I kept away from it...).

That's incredibly vague. Anyway, you're better off using Amon-RA's recovery for an Eris, ClockWork Mod is known to brick our phones... assuming that's what you're using. Seriously you've given us next to nothing to work with.
It is clockwork. Thanks I didn't know that. How do I get amon-ra. Recovery.

Easiest way is to run jcase's 1 Click Eris Root, you can find it on the Market or here
Using Amon is pretty straight forward, just boot into recovery (powering off and power on by VolumeUp+Power/EndCall) the navigation is straight forward, uses trackball. The only thing is it will not see any ROMs inside folders, just keep them at the top on your SD Card

Probably won't work if the ROM on the phone is anything but a stock ROM, as the rooting method relies on a specific "chmod" statement in the boot partition's "init.rc" - most dev ROMs don't have this in there.
I believe that ROM Manager has an option to install an "alternate recovery" (in this case Amon_RA v1.6.2) but I have never used ROM Manager, so don't quote me on that.
There's always this thread, but it may be way more than the OP bargained for. I would sooner tell a newb to just restore the phone back to stock using the "Official" 2.1 MR3 RUU (RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_2.36.605.1_release_signed_with_driver.exe), and then re-root using jcase's Universal 1 Click Eris Root App Apk thread.

joejoe,
if you are not careful you are going to eff your phone up.
There are a couple of people on this forum that use ROM Manager/Clockwork, but in the past, they have not stepped up to help to people asking about it.
Most of the reasons for that are historical - ROM Manager and ClockworkMod recovery were not available for the Eris as early as Amon_RA's recovery - and early versions of ClockworkMod bricked a number of Eris phones. It probably is a lot more reliable now (on the Eris); but because of that history, most people familiar with Eris rooting methods just continued to use Amon_RA because it worked and behaved reliably.
My recommendation is that you return your phone to stock, and then use the "One Click" app to re-root your phone. At that point you will have Amon_RA on your phone, and you will probably get more help (either here or over on androidforums.com) because there are more people that have that experience with the Eris that can help you out with it.
Either that or you simply need to do quite a bit more reading about how ROM Manager works, what a custom recovery looks like when you are interacting with it manually, etc - it is evident from the questions that you are asking that it is unfamiliar territory for you.
Good Luck

Yes i just bought a galaxy Ace and i was wondering if there was an easy way to root or a step by step too root this device
and also what the best Rom was for this phone is
i am from canada here and on the koodo network
For now the unofficial Cyanogenmod7 works best with my usage.
And for the first question, for the love of chuck norris, just google how to root your device... It's as simple as pressing a button. *hint*

Then don't do it. Simple as that.
Figured instead of posting a new thread I'd reply here. I'm in the similar situation sorta, just had a few questions.
My model is the GT-S5830D 2.3.4 and I have Gingerbread.DTLKI4. I haven't encountered any threads with the similar build. I also noticed with KIES it tells me that my phone is not upgradeable. I'm wondering if Koodo put a proprietary lock on my phone and I'm curious whether I can still root my phone? Do you have to unlock in order to root? I've read a bit but I'm having a hard time grasping this concept.
Thanks.

Im guessing that "Koodo" is your carrier? You have to root your device before being able to unlock it at all so it wont really matter what carriar ure on.
I think that's how it works, since i got my ace w/o contract I didnt have to deal with this.
edit: beware, unlocking your phone may brick your phone, or maybe just loosing ure IMEI (source: all the xda threads)
Yes Koodo is the carrier i my self am not 100% sure what they did to it if anything at all to the phone i know i seen a few root guides online just seems like it's alot to do to root it i am sure it can be did i have full access to rom manager and would like to toss a custom rim on this unit as i did with my lg optimus one is all to which is running void forever... Rooting SGA is not hard at all, sga was my first android phone and I was able to root it on my 2nd day of using it.
DONT use Rom Manager, just flash CWM (clockworkmod) and use it instead, ull probably brick your phone using Rom Manager (even after doing backup and stuff).
edit: it just seems to be a lot of step when rooting SGA, i assume you read the information from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12874680#post12874680
If you reduce obvious steps like "2) Turn on your phone" "4) Connect your phone into PC via cable" etc. ull get a very short tutorial.
like this:
(text in italic = added/edited text)
C. Rooting for 2.2.1:
2) Enable Debugging at Apliccations>Programming
3) Connect your phone into PC via cable
4) Launch Super One Click 2.1.1 and Click "Root", wait.
7) When the process is complete turn off SOC and unplug your phone and reboot it.
So it's actually just 4 steps.
Not bad so your saying I should toss rim manager off and such... I now see it easier then i had read before lol... Now what about flashing new software like stock gingerbread? Will it free memory up and what rom would you suggest for this model CM7 or something lighter?

Yes, never use Rom Manager is my tip, even though it does work in very few cases... And as I mentioned, use CWM instead.
I would recommend CM7 to the more experienced users; not saying you need to be a pro to use it, but it's not as stable as the stock roms. Just stay away from settings that you dont know anything about and you should be good (especially the options in performance).
Flashing roms and such are all in the link that i posted before, take some time reading it and you should be good to go.
Perfect... See i typically do read through all guides but beeing new to android by about a year now it dont hurt for advice from people that has been around the OS for a abit longer and have had experience in said things

Oh ok, you need to root before you unlock anyway. Cool. I wanted to root it anyway, just wasn't sure if it was before or after unlocking. I just seem to have some proprietary Koodo firmware on here so if I could remove it I'd be alot happier. I just see lots of flash tutorials for old versions like 2.2.1, not 2.3.4. Wasn't sure if it would be compatible still or not. I just want my phone to be like one I got from samsung, not one from Koodo. Proprietary bungholes. Lol.

Dont know if you noticed but ill quote the part for 2.3.4, download link is in the first post of the "how to root-thread".
"E. Unrooting for 2.3.3/2.3.4/2.3.5 (Thanks to ingbrzy):
1) Download attached file called unroot.zip and copy it to your sdcard
2) Turn off your phone
3) Press POWER+HOME BUTTON
4) Select update from sdcard, select the file unroot.zip
5) After the update completed - reboot
6) Now you have rooted S5830"
In 2.1.1 you wont be able to chose zip, dont know if that is the case for you. But if that is the case simply change the unroot.zip to update, then chose to update your phone and it will automatically search and chose it.
Gingerbreak exploit works for Ace right?
Thanks man! I didn't find that thread. I just came to my phone section and read the sticky but it didn't advise me so.
Thanks again! Will try this in a bit!
Wait: edit. Read that again... Unrooting...rooting?...hrm. I wanted to root. Last line says root but the title says unroot.

2) Turn off your phone

I tried gingerbreak and did not work and that i think the name is z4root and that just stays at the text "applying exploit thing" and i tried superoneclick or what not and it freezes windows while detecting device i tried holding home and power got into recovery gave me option to run the update with zip does stuff then abortion due to file missing so rooting this thing as per many instructions just is not working with me lol

And it's funny i had the LG Optimus One through Koodo and the root was easy as ssh!t and i slapped a version of void. #Forever on it and worked great but i then used my tab towards this because I was 26 bucks short for the Nexus S. Gah now even if i took it back any way this damn phone is abit rough damn the bloatware

Hello all,
I have been reading on here for days now and trying to figure out the easiest way to root my phone. All i want is root no custom roms or anything right now.I found a couple different methods but then they say it wont work with ics then some say there phones wont boot up and all these different things.
So i thought i would post this question here to get a perfect answer for my direct question.
I have a telus note that is updated to ICS and i would like the most simplest EASIEST root.
Could someone please post and let me know what way to go and a link or info detailed on how to do it so i dont mess things up.
I have always been use to rooting with one click lol so this is basically new to me.
Thanks in advance!

Well thank you very much sir. I had that page already booked marked from awhile ago and thought it sounded good but wanted to see if there was a better way or easier way.
I ended up trying to do it last night after i saw your post and it went actually pretty smooth.Didn't think it would be so easy lol.
I do have a couple more questions now.
if i ever want to return phone back to stock how would i do that?
I want to remove the junk stuff that came with the phone with titanium is there a list for a telus note that can be safetly removed?
I read to do a phone backup incase i remove something and phone crashes. What program would i use to make a complete back up?
Thanks again!
If you followed the steps in the link you should have CWM recovery. Boot into recovery - power plus volume held at same time then release power when you feel vibrate or download quickboot or download rom manager - then do backup. If you ever have a problem you can go back to the point if your last backup.

Also i was getting 10MB connection and now when i test its like 2-3
Rooting should not have affected youir wifi at all. What is the app? Try rebooting your router?
