My software on my droid x2 isn't doing good. From what I have seen something will happen in the background that causes all my system apps to restart, only they never finish restarting which begins to devour my memory and eventually leads to my phone freezing up. Also the ringtones like to change randomly to default (alarms set in third party apps too).
I was hoping rooting and getting rid of bloatware would solve this problem but it is still persisting. I thought I could restore backed up system apps with Titanium Backup so I was removing the apps. I'll leave them "restoring" for 45 minutes with no luck (I tried both just restoring the app and restoring both apps and data). So apparently it doesn't work like that.
My question is if I do a factory reset with my phone in its current condition, will I have an issue?
If u diddnt freeze the apps then you might. Did u back them up before u removed them?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yes I backed up all of them, but when I go to restore them it doesn't work. It just keeps restoring them eternally. I waited 45 minutes for app only restore and it wasn't done.
If I am just clearing data in the process of a factory reset, can I maybe wipe data manually or with a tool that wipes data?
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried installing from the apk pack of services, but not all of them would install. My phone really needs a factory reset, I'm getting a lot of software related errors.
Could I maybe manually wipe certain apps? If anyone happens to know which built in apps are okay to wipe I would like to know.

Yes you can wipe an apps data. Go to applications in the settings menu and then click on the app you want to clear and select clear data.

Not all the apps in system can be installed via tapping on them. They need to be manually moved to system/app then change permissions. You can copy all over using root explorer

All you need to do is swap internal and external mount points. My Eclipse ROM has this built in. There is an init.d script that is floating around here that will do it as well.

Hey guys, I've a problem with gingerbread. I've created an ext2 partition on my sd card. LINK2SD successfully installs, but when I start the app it asks for partition type and reboots immediately. I never came across this problem with froyo. Please help me out.
Thank You
as far as I know, there is no solution yet,the problem is on ace you can't write the init.rc file yet.
Link2SD works perfectly on Froyo. Hence I'm holding back upgrading to Gingerbread until that's fixed .

For now, I worked around the problem this way:

You must install with Odin a CODE_S5830XXKP modified file (it contains changed init.rc).
You can use DarkTremor App2SD with VillainROM...

Cool, thanks for sharing. However, I wanted to ask if it is ok to upgrade to KPE and also do the above technique without any factory reset or wiping the data and having to reinstall all apps again. I already have Link2SD set up on my KC1.
Also, I dunno much about DarkTremor's A2SD, is it better than Link2SD in any way?

Every time you make a change with Odin, the phone is completely reset and data are lost (with a backup program is not a big problem). This does not happen just by upgrading by Kies.
Hmm, well not really an upgrade but I did reflash my KC1 when I got soft bricked twice, and all my data was intact I believe.

With odin? I do not know... Long ago I have flashed KC1 and recently KPE (two times) and this has always reset the phone memory (I lost applications, settings, etc.). Better for you
Yeah I did with Odin. Reflashed KC1 twice. I just lost certain minor stuff like Speed Dial numbers and all. My Google and other accounts were still there. Also my Messages.

You can use Titanium Backup or MyBackup for backup your apps and data... its easy and fast...
Yeah I have my apps backed up on Titanium. I just didn't want to deal with manually Link2SDing them one by one again.. I dunno if Titanium would restore the linked and non-linked apps as they are now.

Hi,
I recently flashed a new ROM (fla.sh's fla.sh X2, it's excellent, btw) and successfully set up ext4 partitions for a2sd.
The problem is that I sorta "pushed" my phone a little bit too hard whilst downloading 3 apps simultaneously from the Market (I have a weak connection and was furiously multitasking at that time). In the end, those 3 apps wouldn't start at all; it'll load, then pop up a force close dialog.
First I thought it was a problem with the Market data or cache, so I cleared both. Still got errors. Now I believe that the apps are messed up from the ext4 partition.
How can I fix this? I browsed the partition through Terminal Emulator and Ubuntu, but I can't seem to find anything that'll help.
Should I format the partition (or SD card)? I'm picking that as a last resort, since I have other apps in a2sd.
Thanks in advance, let me know if I'm being ambiguous or you need more info.
actually u can browse a2sd partition directly using ur phone, no need ubuntu or teminal whatsoever. in this case, im using rootexplorer. its /system/sd
I can't believe I just realized that. Thanks for mentioning!
But still isn't helping me with my problems.
I took a look over at the fla.sh X2 post, and fla.sh said that it's caused by the V6 Supercharger script.
I'm downloading the de-supercharger script now, hoping it'll fix it.
Have you tried unninstalling them and then installing them again? :S
No, just do a factory reset before flashing. It will format your .asec and sd-ext folders and clean out the apps.

As a new person to root I have another question that I need help with. After rooting my EVO I somehow did a factory reset and wiped all data from my phone. That gives me around 400mb. After flashing synergy rom and adding a apps I noticed my internal phone storage was 75mb remaining out of 250mb. I have no where near the amount of apps I had before with less space. So my question is, does the ROM file take up internal phone space once flashed? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks a lot for your help.

On sense ROMs, more files are made in the /data partition, due to the greater amount of lib files and other things created by Sense. When you install one app it makes data in /data/data and /data/dalvik , and sense has many apps so the space used goes straight to hell in a basket. But use a Vanilla Rom, and space should go down a bit...Use disk analyses to see what's using the space.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&hl=en
Thanks ill try that. I'll start looking for a vanilla ROM. Any particular one to use with 2.3? I just rooted with the revolutionary. Thanks again.

I don't actually know which ROMs are avail for Evo, maybe you can use MIUI/CM7 or the most popular AOSP? If you choose to use Sense, just remove some apps from the /system partition.
along with resetting the phone to "factory defaults", did you wipe cache and dalvik cache 3 times? I used CWM the other day on my phone to install a ROM and forgot to wipe cache also... kept getting "device is low on memory" errors. Wiped cache and dalvik 3 times, installed the ROM again, everything worked perfectly.
Why 3 times? Extreme redundance LOL. Once is enough. Wiped means its wiped doing it two more times is mildly retarded.

Could be bad blocks on the MTD/Nand chip? If the block are bad then the ROM might not be restore-able anymore. or the backup could be bad, try another ROM instead.
My SD card was full so that's why the backups failed. I had no idea the files were so big. Now still in search for another Rom. No luck with finding the vanilla Rom.

Hello. I'm having a major problem trying to install PowerAMP. I have to admit that at first I tried to crack it, with no success. So honestly, I decided to legally buy it. I know that kind of matters are not allowed here, but actually I'm looking for help on a different thing.
But the problem is that because I intalled, reinstalled, uninstalled and deleted archives so many times in my attemps (with no luck) to activate the full version now it seems like something has been corrupted.
At the moment I will swear that, with the help of Root Explorer I have deleted all trace of poweramp and it's unlocker. But there something broken somewhere. Check this out:
If I try to install Poweramp trial from the store I get this error: Incompatible with other application(s) using the same shared user ID.
If I try to install (or buy) the unlocker I get this: you're replacing another app (when there's abosolutely nothing related in /data/app!!) do you want to continue? App not installed.
So I'm stuck at those points and actually a little bit "scared". I love the app and after my failiures at attempting the activation I reeeally want to buy it legally.
But something is wrong, I've been looking for hours but I coulnd't find anything.
Maybe someone can help me, please? I can only thing of some type of cache or registry or something... anyway, any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.
You can try doing a cache, and dalvik wipe.
Then try to install the app again.

You mean to go into recovery and perform a wipe cache and a wipe dalvik cache, right? Isn't that dangerous for my data and configurations?
EDIT
Tried that just now, nothing changes...
Did you tried to uninstall the whole application using titanium?
I really don't know what can be happening. u.u

Ok first thing is,go into your sd card with a file explorer and search the sd card for any folders, that are labeled with power amp, then go to recovery and wipe cache and delvik and fix permissions, reinstall poweramp that you purchased,if that doesnt work, you will need to install your nandroid and start over fresh, sometimes the files from an app,get distributed into several different folders,so its hard to delete all the temporary files left behind, unless you wipe everything and reinstall a nandroid.

I did all that, go through a lot of folder, in internal sd, external sd and in the filesystem too. I don't know what nandoroid is.
This is so weird because yesterday I installed the app like 10 times. The only different thing I did before the faliure was to look for any files related and delete them, in order to erase anything related with the crack to intall the original one.

I can't quite understand what your asking, but it sounds like you are running out of space, is that right?
If you are having issues with strange files that you don't know what they are taking up lots of space, I would recommend using TitaniumBackup to backup all your applications with data, then do a data factory reset, then VERY SELECTIVELY restore applications with data, ONLY restore the application data that you are 100% sure about, like games you're playing, contacts storage, SMS storage, things like that. Don't be afraid to restore apps 1 at a time checking each time that you aren't getting a rediculous amount of space being taken up.
Sometimes when things get messy a factory reset is the best thing you can do.
Hope this helps.

Only thing I could find anywhere about it was a random thread from the Baidu forum, which Chinese translated to English via Google makes for an interesting read: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2336554174 and someone else on XDA that asked the same question but no one answered. Seems like from the Baidu thread that they deleted the files and the phone didn't break. The files inside the /data/core folder were gone after factory reset, and no one was sure what app or part of the system created the files or what they were for.
thank you very much for your reply...i moved those files in other location to see if anything is wrong.... after using some minutes i rebooted my device... the core files didn't respawn... i just freed 387 mb form phone storage..... once again... thank you sir!!!:good:
