I can't quite understand what your asking, but it sounds like you are running out of space, is that right?
If you are having issues with strange files that you don't know what they are taking up lots of space, I would recommend using TitaniumBackup to backup all your applications with data, then do a data factory reset, then VERY SELECTIVELY restore applications with data, ONLY restore the application data that you are 100% sure about, like games you're playing, contacts storage, SMS storage, things like that. Don't be afraid to restore apps 1 at a time checking each time that you aren't getting a rediculous amount of space being taken up.
Sometimes when things get messy a factory reset is the best thing you can do.
Hope this helps.

Only thing I could find anywhere about it was a random thread from the Baidu forum, which Chinese translated to English via Google makes for an interesting read: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2336554174 and someone else on XDA that asked the same question but no one answered. Seems like from the Baidu thread that they deleted the files and the phone didn't break. The files inside the /data/core folder were gone after factory reset, and no one was sure what app or part of the system created the files or what they were for.

thank you very much for your reply...i moved those files in other location to see if anything is wrong.... after using some minutes i rebooted my device... the core files didn't respawn... i just freed 387 mb form phone storage..... once again... thank you sir!!!:good:

Factory reset after root?

My software on my droid x2 isn't doing good. From what I have seen something will happen in the background that causes all my system apps to restart, only they never finish restarting which begins to devour my memory and eventually leads to my phone freezing up. Also the ringtones like to change randomly to default (alarms set in third party apps too).
I was hoping rooting and getting rid of bloatware would solve this problem but it is still persisting. I thought I could restore backed up system apps with Titanium Backup so I was removing the apps. I'll leave them "restoring" for 45 minutes with no luck (I tried both just restoring the app and restoring both apps and data). So apparently it doesn't work like that.
My question is if I do a factory reset with my phone in its current condition, will I have an issue?
If u diddnt freeze the apps then you might. Did u back them up before u removed them?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yes I backed up all of them, but when I go to restore them it doesn't work. It just keeps restoring them eternally. I waited 45 minutes for app only restore and it wasn't done.
If I am just clearing data in the process of a factory reset, can I maybe wipe data manually or with a tool that wipes data?
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried installing from the apk pack of services, but not all of them would install. My phone really needs a factory reset, I'm getting a lot of software related errors.
Could I maybe manually wipe certain apps? If anyone happens to know which built in apps are okay to wipe I would like to know.

Not all the apps in system can be installed via tapping on them. They need to be manually moved to system/app then change permissions. You can copy all over using root explorer

All you need to do is swap internal and external mount points. My Eclipse ROM has this built in. There is an init.d script that is floating around here that will do it as well.

storage ?

whenever I try to install something it says I do not have sufficient storage. facebook is 3.92Mb, I have 2.3Gb on phone free for programs, 8+Gb free on phone, and 29+Gb free in card! app cache found nothing to clean and reboot did not work. I am lost!
Sent from Photon 4G code name "Neo" using XDA Premium!
Try the following:
Clear cache history and other bs is browser app.
Delete any long old or unnecessary text threads. If you'd prefer there are apps to back them up.
Go into recovery and wipe cache.
See if that helps
EDIT- might even squeeze a bit more out by using an app like sd maid to clean old logs and tombstones and other BS.
@Kenny, still no workie!! I just found it strange because if you look at my OP, I have more than enough space. I will try another app! FB is jacked anyway!
Google+ FTW
Try this and remember, no matter how much you dislike what im going to say, there's no crying in baseball (little tom hanks reference )
Menu>settings>apps>downloaded>market aka vending
Force stop, clear cache, clear data, uninstall update
Now reboot. Pretty sure that should do it and if the update doesn't immediately push let me know and ill give you my apk.

Your gonna have to send it to me because that did not work either. Only difference, before I got Orange Triangle in Notification bar, this time, I got message directly from market. I will do it from home on WiFi in a hour, why waste my data................I have WiFi here duh!
EDIT: Why am I sooooo stupid? linkedin and my news app just updated with no problem. I should have known FB was at the root of this. months ago, I was not getting my IM. They fixed that, but app keep freezing. Last month I could not get to pictures on the phone, they fixed that, but back to the freeing. Now this crap...........

Have you tried wiping dalvik cache? You can try it in CWM but check its size before and after to see if its wiping. I've seen many issues, which I'll bet a google search will validate, that if dalvik cache grows too large it's first victim is preventing apps from installing from the market.
If recovery isn't wiping you could delete with root explorer and it will recreate
What's this facebook thing you mention? I'll have to get on google plus sometime and see if any of my peeps have heard of it
Glad to hear you're back in business.
OK, I went into System Recovery and deleted Delvik Cache, no success. I went into ROM Toolbox Pro, I cannot find a Delvik Cache folder (Likely burried somewhere.)
Everything is data/delvik-cache should be deleted
The Dex's will regenerate
Just a tip, apps including old versions of google apps that are in system, but no longer used because a newer version has been installed to data, create dalvik-cache. This is why I would release a flashable zip to my rom users every time a google app was updated. Id have the script remove the old apk from /system/app and put the new one in and wipe /cache/dalvik-cache (I'll explain in a min). This kept precious /data space free before we had super phones and kept things neat and tidy. It was more my OCD than anything because id always implement a script that's moves dalvik-cache to cache (now does that path make sense?) Which resulted in more than 20mb of extra /data space that's usable.
Food for thought. I've implemented busy box run parts support on my rom but I haven't even bothered touching my scripts yet so ....

Well ... if other apps work then its a FB problem, not our mopho problem. Yes the dalvik cache will recreate although smaller and any cache that was left from a previously installed app that has since been removed would not have recreated.
OK, @Kenny, that explains alot. 2 quick questions, When I look at the folder in ROM Toolbox Pro, it tells me the size is "Null", how do you view its size?
Lastly, I deleted that folder and rebooted @ 6:45PM after I got off work. The date on that folder is today, but the time is 15:18, around the time I used System Recovery to clear it? I exited ROM Toolbox, went back in to assure it was gone, rebooted. So maybe the old crap is still there?

To be honest I don't use rom toolbox despite owning so I just installed it to see what your saying and mine shows null size as well. If you hit menu there's a setting you need to check to tell the app the show sizes. Checked it and still null. So my answer is I don't know. That's the longest I've spent using the app and they were all null.
Also make sure your not deleting the folder but rather the contents of it.
My preferred file explorer is root explorer. In fact, one of my most used apps and I'd buy it 100x's over. In root explorer I long pressed, selected properties and my dalvik-cache was 58mb. I did some cleanup of old apps in /system/app and moved the newer versions from /data/app to /system/app. Then I deleted the dalvik-cache contents and rebooted and gained 6mb from the dalvik-cache alone. Not sure how much room was freed in /data by moving the apps to /system but its 15mb as a guess. So by that I freed 20+ mb of space and did a quick general house cleaning.
If I redirecting dalvik-cache to cache and there's another 52mb.

System Storage having little space

Hi there,
I've been getting Storage low messages popping up from the dropdown. I've got 16GB as its the S2 and 16GB SD card too. I know that the system hold 1.97GB but something is taking up 1.67 of this. I've devlivk cahce cleared. Still no joy. I've also been removing ghost folders for past installs and their cache files too, if any. Removed the last few app's too, Just incase!
I just don't get whats running all this up.
I've been looking around the web and looked in many threads here, as you do, not finding something that relates to my problem. I'd wish OPs would use the fourm as forums are ment to be used. Many people just put "help me please" in the title.
Anyway....
Any help would be greatful on this matter. I'm thinking about just hard resetting. But take to long to get the phone back the way i want.
Here's a few details on what I am running, just incase I've missed something in the don't use that topic
Model I9100
Andriod Version : 4.0.3
Kernel Version : 3.0.15-i9100xxlpq
Build number : IML74K.WXLP8
Cheers :good:
The system ROM has only 512MB of space, so it might be that.
Do you have root? If so, then download Titanium Backup and remove unecessary system apps. Also, download SD Maid & CacheCleaner-Ng to remove cache from all the apps at once, and not one by one.

Tips for apps- backups- latest android

4.1.2 current
4.2.2 Max
I wish to update android. Can I do this safely if I just (un)rooted my device? Whatever the terminology is. (i just did it so I have superuser etc. im a complete mobile phone noob)
What is the most easy way to make an complete backup of the entire phone?
As in apps- settings-internal firmware etc. I wish to make a complete backup.
What would be the easiest way to aquire apps?
I found 4shared and blackmart but they are not as good as the playstore, as in searching, for with this you need to know already what you are searching.
Well you can use playstore and then search in 4shared. But I was thinking maybe there is a more complete solution.
Also I noticed in some of these apps, certain apps don't seem to be present.
So what is the most complete solution to apps? Prefered if they have like short describ, popularity, pictures.
Thanks in advance.

Eh, of course you can update... The method depends on what you're going to flash.
You can use Titanium Back up. Settings of your phone will be erased.
Well, just use the Play Store.
Well first of all, the playstore, only shows up to 500 downloads, and there all scramlbed, as in the 10. mil downloads apps are scrambled inbetween the 100.000 one's etc. Meaning I miss probably alot of popular downloads. Also playstore.. you need to PAY. I want a free-complete solution with the biggest library.
Titanium backup.. backups what? I want a total backup of everything.. does that do that?
Settings erased?? -.-
Ofcourse I can update, where? flash what? I see that my phone can update itself in settings, through official means is this android update?
Sorry im a total noob. I almosted messed up rooting too.

Well the play store is the largest source of Android apps and the next I guess would be the Amazon play store, and what do you mean "you need to pay"? Of course for paid apps, you will need to pay(amazon does give out free paid apps everyday though) but you can have a free version which will contain ads for most good apps.
For total backup you will have to do a nandroid backup by going into CWM(read other threads), you can also use an app called Nandroid Backup to do it for you without the need of going into CWM for restoring the backup you will have to always go into CWM though.
Edit : OTA updates can easily be done via settings and yes it will update your android.
Other faster method is flashing the firmware through a computer.

Hello mates..
This is a developer's forum and discussing sources such as "blackmart" or "4shared" is not a good idea.
If u need an app that needs payment, pay for it..
As your payment is the only thing thr developers gets.
So I strongly suggest that you stop using blackmart or whatever source u use for cracked apk's.
Just use playstore as it is a trusted and tested source for apps.

I didn't discuss using any of those, I focused on Amazon app store which is completely legal and they do give out free paid apps daily(which is also legal), and for your information 4shared is not an illegal source for download it's just being misused like that, it's actually a file sharing website where you can share your photos, documents, and other personal or open source stuff.
But Blackmart is just like the name it is a black market of android apps.

Now for the discussion, I didn't accused u for the disscussion.i just wanted to state the obvious that the other user used sources such as "4shared" or "blackmart" to download cracked apps.
I only wanted to have his thoughts changed mate, nothing else.
And being an iphone user too, mr know that giving paid apps free for a day is legal.

Well I just download nandroid online.
It asked me which kinda of backup I wanted I choose, the first one default one, cook something.
made backup? it was 2.65 gb.. appearently it doesn't backup all since it's only 2.65gb.. so what is excluded from this?? Since I have used like 10 GB apart from this in apps.
Also how do you restore a backup? no such option in the program -.-
Is there also a way to validate a backup?

Yeah lol I understand.. I think you mean clockwork mod and there are further options too which you obviously didn't use, but let's get to you 2.6gb backup it contains your complete firmware, settings , and all the apps you have ever installed to the point, data in your internal and external memory cards should be completely copied to a computer or external hdd, ie you should manually backup that, restoration can be done via booting into CWM(for more info on CWM read other threads it will take too long to explain).

Yeah I now get that you have to use the backup with CWM which was installed with root, can you activate CWM like when booting phone before u get into android?
And well it may have saved the apps, but not the music because that alone is 4GB. so why doesnt it literally take everything?
So this is all I will ever need as in backup? And I just copy the 2.65 gb to my pc for safe keeping

Yes you can access cwm directly by switching your phone off, holding power button + home button +volume up button it will boot directly into CWM.
Backing up all the memory will possibly create a huge file and it ain't that practical but you can do it if you want, but normal backups won't touch any of your data (sdcard as well as ext sdcard) when restoring unless you manually perform a wipe.
You can copy your backup anywhere but you will have to copy it back to restore.

Ok im into CWM, I pressed backup but it doesn't backup everything in a huge file? I dont really care for practical when I got a 3 TB harddrive so it's not possible to include sd data? I also moved all apps to sd card, aswell as mp3's..
And Im trying to backup the phone through windows explorer.. but it seems I can't acces all files there? Because when I count the maps and filesizes, it seems like it doesn't add up, and something is hidden from me.
Also when I make backup it NEVER asks me where to store it, wether I do with CWM or with this other program I forgot name off. Through wifi directly on external hDD would be great.

Lol, you may not consider practical backup, but developers do, a normal nandroid backup is meant to hold all important rom data and and user apps data. Backup of Personal Data is always set to be done separately but you can do it with CWM by using a modified backup script and for restore you will have to use another modified restore script, quite a pain in the ass if I must say and too risky for a novice like you because if you mess up the script you can damage your nand thereby bricking your phone, All your data on both memory will be completely visible to you via windows especially if you are connecting via USB mode, In CWM you have the choice to backup into the sdcard or ext sdcard , it will be stored either in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup or /extsdcard/clockworkmod/backup, in the Online Nandroid backup app you can specify the download location with a manually defined directory structure.

Ok thank you. Well How come then the sizes dont addd up when I press ctrl + a on internal memory or SD card. And then compare free space/total size with the size of all the stuff I selected.. Seems some stuff is hidden 0_0
So are you saying you could also backup through windows explorer by just copying ALL stuff unto external HDD, and make a Nandroid backup would that be "complete'?

Pretty much, nandroid backup + backed up so data is usually pretty much complete.
Edit :There are some minor things, but that would only confuse you further, you don't need to worry about it though.

[Q] Recover lost app data due to accidental app deinstallation

Hi there,
I'm new here, so it's my first post and I hope I'm in the right place to ask here
Yesterday my girlfriend accidently deinstalled one of her favorite apps from her SGS3 (via Play Store), it's a game and all its game data is stored internally as it seems. No backup or anything else has been made before
She just reinstalled the app from the Play Store and opened it just once, but did not do anything else yet.
I've already searched the forum and googled around a lot, but did not get any appropriate answer to my question:
Is there any way to recover the lost app data to make her happy again?
I've already tried several apps from the Play Store like: Dumpster, Undelete, DiskDigger, Hexamob Recovery but nothing worked or even could access the internal storage or was just able to maybe recover lost pictures or videos.
Device info:
I've rooted her SGS3 I9300 and recently flashed it with CM 10.2 nightly (playing around with the phone while waiting to buy myself a new one )
I really hope there is someone out there who has an idea or just gives me an appropriate answer.
I'm not a native speaker so my apologies for every mistake I maybe made
Thanks in advance!

you said the data is not lost. so cut and save the data somewhere you'd like to. re-install the game and paste this data under android>data.

The app was deinstalled and as far as it seems all its stored data with it, so I cannot cut and paste it in again, that's why Im asking for a way to recover the app data

you also said the phone is rooted. enable root option to the file explorer and then you will be able to copy/cut/paste the data on the system. my preference es file explorer. menu> root explorer> mount R/W> set permissions to RW. then you will be good to go.

Maybe I was not clear enough. I tried your suggestion and searched for 'smurf' to find any data, now I got several files and folders containing 'smurf'.
I think the data was deteled while the deinstallation of the app, am I right?
Hard to answer this, but in which files will the app data be stored and if it is deleted, how can I get it back?
I found a solution, she did do a backup without telling me, 2 months ago...stupid little... my bad or better: her bad.
Thanks for your help so far!
Thread can be closed now...
Just FYI, without that backup, there would have been nothing you could have done.

Now that's what I wanted to know
I already thought that there might be no way to get the data back, due to the storage structure / filesystem and even to the fact that she reinstalled the app and started it (main data has maybe been written at that moment, so the old data blocks have been overwritten or so)
Really thanks!
