Best kernal for project v - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys wondering who has tested multiple kernals on project v. I have used the stock and overstock and prefer overstock. Any input on bali, dragon, or any others?

could try overstock 2.4.1 then OC to 1.2GHz, havent been on project v but my battery was ok with that on other roms
or could try dragonmodz and OC to 1.2GHz, that might have better battery than overstock, havent tried it but people on his thread say they have quite decent battery going up to 1.5GHz
just play around with them for a few days each, see which works best

I'm running TigersBlood3.22 OC to 1.2Ghz and I'm gettin average battle life.

Thanks for the advice. How's tigers blood not overclocked?

DragonMODz kernels have the best battery I've experienced. Followed by Bali 1.8.6UV.
Sent from my SGH-T959

IMHO, DragonModz are awesome kernels, they have all flavors. They have the "Standard" version that its the intermediate between performance and battery life, then they have the ULP version that boosts the battery life, but takes a little of the performance, and last but not least, they have the OC version wich is oriented to performance...battery life is ok with this one, does not suck, but it isn't as great as the ULP/Standard version or Bali's UV.
I have tried several kernels, and i think that my phone was the happiest with DragonMODz.

i have found, for my phone at least
bali UV = great battery life ( 15 hours ) moderate use
bulet 1.48 = great performace ( 21 mflops & 7 hours ) moderate use
overstock 2.4.x = good balance

I have to add that im an moderate/intense user. Im on WiFi 37% of the time, i use lots of intesive GPU using apps like Gameloft's HD games, N64/Gba emulation, i listen to music around 46% of the time and im using Project V until GB gets fully functional (GPS) wich seems to be very soon.
IMO, the best option if you want great battery life and great performance is to buy a 3000mah battery and use an OCed Kernel.

Thanks bro great info. I appreciate all the help with this thread!

Bali UV has the best battery life I've seen , after 16-17 hours of moderate use (WiFi, calls, 3d games) i still have on average 40-45% juice.

Any 2.2.1 roms out there with decent battery life yet?

I'm big on battery life so wondering if any 2.2.1 roms have decent battery life yet before flashing one.
My battery life has always been pretty good but it started going downhill after messing with set CPU without really knowing what I was doing so I uninstalled the app. I've never wiped my battery stats. Any benefit in doing this?
people have different views on different roms but from mostly reading up as a noob i have noticed it is the kernel and modem that you are running that matters. so try to do some research on it. and see which one fits best.

i havent flashed alot like only 4 to 6 roms, and not to disrespect any of the developers but i have only used 2 types, trigger and team whiskey roms. both are good in my opinion. i dont do much fancy stuff just text call use data sometimes play games etc etc. regular use.
another thing i did to save battery life was turn 3g/4g off when i am not using it. just to leave it on eats battery alot. im very new and still learning. this is just an opinion.
above in the noob guide sticky you can find how to recalibrate your battery for maximum power as well. i will be doing that as well since i missed on that part.
i have never till yet flashed a different kernel or modem, but for kernel after reading a lot i have seen that people prefer tigerblood or somethign like that kernel. with their roms.
i hope this helps
I suggest an an called Tasker (from the market) which will let you set a profile that turns off data when the screen is turned off. Saves a lot of battery power.
Oh, yeah, of course you should set screen brightness to 10% and use a Dark homescreen.
Never had to do any of those things. But always had at least a full day's use out of one charge.

Gcr3 by eugene! Smooth and good battery life! I average around 2000 in quadrant also @ 1ghz ... it wont let me upload my screenshot but it shows 9h 9m 30s unplugged and I was at 72% pretty beast!

Malice + Tigersbloodv3 is my personal fav currently. As asked its 2.2.1 plus with TB you can OC to 1.2Ghz my avg batt life was around 15hrs.
I got great batt life with Atriarc also avg 24+hrs and I do believe it is 2.2.1 as well

Same here, best battery life I've had to date I think. However, I'm not texting much right now and that seems to kill my battery faster than anything.
ToXIC HEROES/TOXIC SMOKE - its freaking awesome and fast as hell with Voodoo and Fugu Tweaks enabled.
Edit:Sorry misread the OP topic - Toxic Smoke is a 2.2 ROM not a 2.2.1.

[Q] Which ROMs/Kernels for battery life?

For you users that have had the time to run a lot of different ROMs and Kernels, what has given you the best average battery life? I know a lot of this is relative but regardless.
I've tried liquid and BAMF and didn't find much of an increase over stock life. For each one I charged to 100% and used it for a ~17-20 hour period and compared. I've also tried a few under volted kernels.
I cleared all the caches and wiped battery life stats too for each rom.
+1. I think imoseyon's kernel might be working best for me with a max of 1.2Ghz but I haven't done that much testing.

I totally agree with you on imoseyon's kernels. His newest kernel, the 1.92, running at 1-1.2 Ghz is super stable/responsive but has, at least so far, given me improved battery life as well.
As for the rom, I'd have to go with either BAMF or Tesla personally.

Okay next charge cycle I'll try imoseyon's kernel.
Right now I'm back to debloated stock and running adrynalyne's undervolted 1GHz and seeing a bit of an increase in life.
Imoseyon's leankernel is doing it for me. I am using the stock rom with it and my battery life is better than when I was using the stock kernel. It is by no means a miracle worker but the improvement is very noticeable.

"smoothest" kernel with best battery life?

Am using bali now and it gives great battery life, but it is not as smooth as say... overstock. Is there any kernel which gives a balance between the two?
ones gotta give
Not sure what you're seeing but smoothness you're talking about probably has more to do with the rom than the kernel. If you flashed both kernels I'm sure you wouldn't see much difference between the two without the boot screen.

Did you try the overstock UV kernel? You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967861
It is the Overstock 1.5.2 UV download, it is designed to save battery life. You can also try SUPER_DragonMODz ULP, another battery saving kernel, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049894
I literally just got onto the bullet kernel from Bi-Winning, and it has the smoothest i've noticed, but its only been a hour or two since i got on this rom with the kernel so... idk i cant say about battery right now.
I have to say, be careful with SUPER_DragonMODz kernel... For me it almost burned up my phone. Phone was just sitting on the table when I sense the burn The phone was hot as hell...
All dragonmodz kernels are great I ulp has amazing battery life, oc and normal both give me great battery life too with no overheat for me, wayyy less then bullet (has much higher voltage settings) just don't use any setcpu profiles (except for 400/100 screen off) and I suggest conservative govener

Oops double post
bullet just overclock it and it runs smooth i used to have great battery life with when i was on froyo

[Q] Best rom for battery and performance

Okay so I'm looking for a good rom, with good battery (I need at least 16+ heavy / moderate usage), ffc on it (not optional since I could probably just flash the ffc mod.zip), and good performance (since I will be playing alot of games) so any opinions =]

Bi-Winning v3 with one of ECOTOX's DragonMODz kernel. I use the ULP version and get 40+ hours. He's got an OC version too if you OC. Won't get quite as good battery but still very good. I don't do a lot of games but lots of calls, text, and web. Wifi is on just about 24/7 too.
40+ hours god I would love that ...I'm actually on bi-winning v3 myself ...I have no clue what version I'm on ..but I guess I should check out that kernel
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Yeah again I don't do games much but I would definitely give his kernels a look. ECOTOX makes them with games in mind. They're really great.
Also, have you tried different modems? I get better signal with KB5, but better battery with KB1, so I have to choose between the two...

[Q] (Q)Best kernel and basic setup for best battery life

I've tried different kernels and I have found that being overclocked has hurt my battery life. I think that this phone is snappy enough without being overclocked to 2ghz. Have people found the best battery life with the stock kernel? I'm still new to this...any help and opinions will be very appreciated!
So far I'm doing better than stock on the viperRom setup

The problem is you're OC'd to 2 ghz. Most people have reported this as an overkill and it really isn't too stable, if you use set cpu and set up some profiles you will get great battery life. The processor in our phones is clocked at 1.5 to begin with, im currently on joel's rom with the remix kernel oc'd to 1.7 and getting amazing battery life, but i wasn't getting good battery life with the viper rom. I mean everyone's experience is different.
Just find something that works for you, tweaking to your liking is part of the fun with android man!

First things you should do is set a screen off profile. That will be awesome for your battery life. And you can get set cpu here for free on xda or get it in the market to support the dev
And we're here to help man!
