[Q] (Q)Best kernel and basic setup for best battery life - HTC EVO 3D

I've tried different kernels and I have found that being overclocked has hurt my battery life. I think that this phone is snappy enough without being overclocked to 2ghz. Have people found the best battery life with the stock kernel? I'm still new to this...any help and opinions will be very appreciated!

So far I'm doing better than stock on the viperRom setup

The problem is you're OC'd to 2 ghz. Most people have reported this as an overkill and it really isn't too stable, if you use set cpu and set up some profiles you will get great battery life. The processor in our phones is clocked at 1.5 to begin with, im currently on joel's rom with the remix kernel oc'd to 1.7 and getting amazing battery life, but i wasn't getting good battery life with the viper rom. I mean everyone's experience is different.
Just find something that works for you, tweaking to your liking is part of the fun with android man!

Thanks for the lengthy response man..I'll def try messing around with set cpu. I've only ran the phone with the way the kernels come after being flashed

First things you should do is set a screen off profile. That will be awesome for your battery life. And you can get set cpu here for free on xda or get it in the market to support the dev
And we're here to help man!

[Q] Which ROMs/Kernels for battery life?

For you users that have had the time to run a lot of different ROMs and Kernels, what has given you the best average battery life? I know a lot of this is relative but regardless.
I've tried liquid and BAMF and didn't find much of an increase over stock life. For each one I charged to 100% and used it for a ~17-20 hour period and compared. I've also tried a few under volted kernels.
I cleared all the caches and wiped battery life stats too for each rom.
+1. I think imoseyon's kernel might be working best for me with a max of 1.2Ghz but I haven't done that much testing.

I totally agree with you on imoseyon's kernels. His newest kernel, the 1.92, running at 1-1.2 Ghz is super stable/responsive but has, at least so far, given me improved battery life as well.
As for the rom, I'd have to go with either BAMF or Tesla personally.

Okay next charge cycle I'll try imoseyon's kernel.
Right now I'm back to debloated stock and running adrynalyne's undervolted 1GHz and seeing a bit of an increase in life.
Imoseyon's leankernel is doing it for me. I am using the stock rom with it and my battery life is better than when I was using the stock kernel. It is by no means a miracle worker but the improvement is very noticeable.

best rom for battery life?

Which sense based rom yields the best battery life on the 3d? I'm thinking of WTSB.

At this point, any rom is best. You need to underclock your phone while the screen is off. Free app CPU Manager in the market, has all the OC performance options from CM.
I would assume freeza's would be beastly because its a bare minimum ROM.
Any senseless ROM with set CPU underclocked while the screens off is probably your best bet. Use the stock kernel too.

This! I am currently using the "Senseless ROM" and love the battery life, and pretty much everything else about it. As for a Sense ROM, I've used 2, and I found "Viper ROM" to be the best out of those two. If you're into Sense, Viperboy's ROM is great.
I've been trying the various roms, and so far I consistently am getting the best mix of performance/battery life from Viper's rom.
Viperrom is great on battery. Just dont flash any overclocking kernel and just let its built in Deamon script to control your cpu. You can use setcpu also but from what I'm reading daemon does a better job.
Im using viper right now also, damn good ROM.

At this point they are all pretty much the same... Just use SetCPU to underclock.
Its funny the phone runs perfectly fine underclocked in the 500's for normal use.
Vipersrom. Then follow this guide.
My phone has been used moderately for 9 hours and its @79%
Just wondering why you mentioned download launcher pro or adw? Does sense have different effect on battery life?

MoPho quadrant scores

Could I get few people to post their scores? I wanna make sure im on par with a normal photon and I didn't **** something up LOL
Sent from my Unlocked Alien MoPho
I have scored as high as 2,800 and as low as 2,000. Not sure what accounts for the fluctuation (The lower scores have been more recent).

After the first two runs, I can consistently get 2,750-2,800 on Quadrant Standard.
Are you running a stock rooted/locked setup? Or are you running a custom rom/unlocked/overclocked setup? Cause I'm usually around 4500 to 4900.

My scores were just run as stock & unrooted. I reset my phone last weekend for a service call and Sprint is going to exchange it tomorrow for a new (and hopefully less buggy) Photon.
Why are people continuing to use a benchmark that Cyanogen himself proved was flawed and easily faked?

Ill throw in a few. Running CM7
Quad - 3458(before i loaded CM7i was around 2500 if i remember correct)
Linpack Single Thread - 42.34
Linpack - Multiple Thread - 69.239
AnTuTu - 5149
Vellamo - 863
3496 running skinny with the 1.3 kernel I have been loving this rom, having great battery life as well
Just curious but what are your Guy's charging times? Like from anything under 5 percent to 100 percent. I am asking just because drain times vary but charge times should not.

NICE. I just got CM7 and im getting WAY better scores.
And as far as kernels go, i havent flashed one yet because im afraid of it killing my battery, or breaking wifi. Can you give me a link to a OC kernel that doesnt break wifi, and isnt too heavy on battery?
Well you have one option for cm7, lol

You loose all blur stuff. If you ran or have used cm7 before, you'll want it again and again. It's snappy and smooth. My stock blur would fc on me but my photon w cm7 has not fc once yet.
For charge times, I was at 27% (after 3 days run time) and I got to 95% in less then an hour and a half.
This week I may flash the beta kernel for cm7 and retest but depends on work schedule. Still trying to get a good calculation of cm7 and battery run time. So far amazing!
Little better after flashing jokers v3 kernel for CM7. loving CM! I think my phone can go faster then I can type with my ugly thumbs.

Joker's kernel cm7 better battery

Who knows which kernel I can use to undervolt and how do I do that using CM settings? And will this give me better battery life? thanx guys

there is only two so try one for a couple of days to see which one is better for your phone. you need to go through a couple of charge cycles to get a true test.
use myrt from the market to uv.

i fixed the setcpu bug so you could use anything now.

Im using 1.3 kernel for cm7 and the battery is not i was expecting, uv'd -75 to all... got better battery life with jokers skinnyrev1 rom, still will wait for 2 more cycles to see real stats... any advice for getting a better battery life will be appreciated

I have the 1.3 kernel for Joker on CM7 with it UV'd by 100 and I routinely get 15-20 hours off of the battery with moderate usage no complaints here.
Thanks for the feedback, now testing -100 uv'd, i noticed that 3g-hdspa in GSM kill really faster the battery, anyone noticing that too?

I have the same kernel. Using myrt I ubdervolt everything to -100 but after I apply changes the 1.3 setting goes back up to Max.
Any ideas?

How many people are stable at 1.6ghz?

Hey, so just like the title says are you stable at 1.6ghz do a little test run quadrent on your phone and than if it passes your probably good but also try 10mins of angry birds just to make sure i on the other hands cannot run quadrent at 1.6ghz
No problems here, but every CPU is different. I've seen some people use 1.5ghz instead

Running stable at 1.6 also. Check this to run at 1.5.

I'm stable at 1.5 (1350mV), though I don't run it at that daily. It was covered in steve's init thread in development. Look in the last few pages.
i run antutu all the time at 1.6 with no problems. guess i got lucky
Ok just gave my 1600mhz 50mv more and its stable now so i can finally overclock a little higher when needed
Stable only to [email protected] here. Locks up after that.

Mine overclocks to 1.6 with no issues at all. I ran it like that for weeks until I decided that I want longer battery life. The stock speed is still fast, and underclocking still results in acceptable responsiveness.
I use Tasker to overclock my phone when playing certain intensive games. Otherwise, my phone is usually underclocked.
Mine's never crashed at 1.6, but I don't really stress test it there besides with benchmarks.
Mine locks up at 1.4Ghz. Each one is different i guess..
Stable at 1.6 with custom kernels or tegrak on stock kernel. UV too.

I am very stable at 1.6
I have never had any issues at 1.6 and that is on just about every rom. I dont ever keep it at that cuz i dont enjoy sucking my battery but it is definitely fun to show off to others, HAHA! Also I have a captivate and the highest it would let me overclock it was 1.7 and that is ridiculous but it was unstable. lol
I've found a way to make almost every setting I have tried relatively stable. You just have to keep tweaking. It's not as simple as getting an overclock app and maxing. Here are some screen shots I took of a recent bench. This is only at 1632. I customized a I9100 ICS rom to be fully functional on my I777 and I'm scoring higher just above 1600 than I was closer to 1700. I was ranked 720 but those transformer primes! I wish it was only mobile phones on the chart! lol
Mine is stable at 1.6.......but im like everyone else. Don't like watching my battery drop like the ball at times square on new years eve lol .mine seems pretty happy at 1.4 with some under volting
