[Q] Xperia TW V007 - instaling custom ZIP - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I admit I registered recently but I didn't find solution to this problem (yes I did try to search)
I did a frest install of 2.1 via Update Service
rooted my phone with SuperOneClick (1.9.0.0)
and finally installed xRecovery (1.0.0)
when I go to xRecovery to "install zip from sdcard" (to choose Xperia_TW_007.zip) the first problem is
"Amend scripting is no longer suported.... Please switch to Edify scripting..."
so what I did - I downloaded amend2edify v1.0.1.0 and converted the custom ROM.
now it says:
Performing Update...
Mounting mount points...
Unmouting mount points...
Update Complete.
Install from sdcard complete...
So I reboot my phone, the phone starts but nothing happened I still have 2.1 installed :-/
where is the problem?

Well use older version of xrecovery, don't use v1, use 0.3 and everything will work fine.

the 0.3 version is just an apk that you can easly install as an app

You were right! thanks,
but now it ask me for enter SIM network unlock pin when it starts...
I press cancel and it lets me to the system, internet ok, signal ok, I can even call... wierd but why not

Installation aborted

Whenever I try to install a zip rom on my Vibrant I get an error msg. After I ask the rom manager to install from the SD card and select the file from the internal memory it reboots and A very quick installation takes place until it stops on "installing Muti-CSC". After that it just stays like that forever....so I go to "reinstall packages" and the system tells me:
--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted. (in red letters).
Can anyone help?
thanks
Rafa
P.S - I've read the other related threads and didn't find the answer. I've tried with nero V3 and V4.
Try this, If you can Odin back to stock, Then root the phone (if you are already there then ignore) Download the Axura rom 2.6 rom or the latest (it seems to be less buggy on some phones. Load it on your internal card
Get permission from the rom manager then reboot into recovery. The manually install by reinstall packages/ choose rom on sd card
That should work
also, there has been some phones that have used the rooting method Loading the folder then reinstall update...... This on some phones does work, not sure why, you can get the one click root, (go to unlockr.com) they have there along with a video.
Thanks, I´ll give that a go.
Installation aborted-plz help asap

[Q] Help needed to upgrade from 1.6

Hi,
I have a problem with upgrading and wondered if anyone could help, please. I have searched the forum and couldn't find an exact answer to my problem.
In November my wife broke the usb on her X10i and hasn't been able to upgrade to 2.1 because of Sony's lack of OTA updates.
Is it possible to root and flash 2.1 on the X10i using the SDcard only instead of connecting the phone to the PC through usb?
What is the best way to root and the best 2.1 rom to use when flashing a pay monthly O2 X10?
Thanks for any help in advance.
The model is an X10i
Firmware 1.6 (obviously)
baseband 1.0.16
Kernel 1.6.29
Build R1FA016
1. Search & download Z4 root to your sd card (use google, can't miss it)
2. Download BUSYBOX from the market
3. Follow the instructions on this link to install XRECOVERY:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
After these your phone should be ready to be flashed, it's just a matter of what you want to flash it to.
Hope these help.
Thank you, I'll try your suggestions.
A standard 2.1 rom that works on an O2 x10i is fine to flash to, doesn't have to be customised or fancy. Any suggestions on the best and most stable rom to go for?
Cheers.
I think you will be fine with the Generic 2.0.2.A.0.24 build. (Thought I had the link to the zip file but I must have deleted it, I used the flashtool exclusively for 2.1 and I used xrecovery when I started to use froyo.) I've only had my x10 for a little over 2 months, flashed it to 2.1 after a few days of getting it then I switched to 2.2 betas since the new year but I was happy with that 2.1 version the short time I had it.
Thank you very much
A couple more annoying newbie question though.
I rooted the phone but couldnt install busybox from the market, does Z4 root install it when it roots the phone?
I can't move the three xrecovery files from my sdcard into the system/bin folder on the phone. Do I need to install Root Explorer from the Market to access and write the 3 files onto the phone system folder?
Thanks.

No problem I have a few things I still need to learn myself so no worries.
First, when you run z4 root does it say that its rooted?
Did you get an error when installing busybox or are you saying you can't find it in the market?
No, z4 doesn't install busybox.
Yes, you'll need to install root explorer before you can push any file to the system/bin folder/ on the phone.
Z4root worked, i chose permanant root, when I try to install busybox I get the message
Your Phone is rooted.
Busybox was not found.
The app failed either because your device is not nand unlocked or we were unable to remount.
I installed Titanium backup to check the phone is rooted and it says it could not require root priviliges either.

Sounds like z4 root didn't work since 2 different apps does not see your phone as being rooted. Uninstall z4 then search and download for Universal Androot 1.6, that's the other root app I've used in the past.
Thanks.
Phone rooted, busybox and root explorer installed.
Xrecovery files moved.
Can't get into the xrecovery menu at startup
My rooted Orange San Francisco is looking like a good buy now. I'll give up on messing with the phone. Thanks for all your help and time, my wife gets a new phone in year and it will probably take me that long to get it working and for SE to release 2.2

hi there, dont give up now, you are getting so close!
you dont really need to use xrecovery menu at all. the idea for you would be the following:
1. root the 1.6 phone - done
2. install titanium backup/my backup pro and backup your data - done (i think)
3. download the 2.1 flashtool from the following thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793 (choose the appropriate ROM - if unsure ask questions! i would recommend the latest X10a_2_1_A_0_435_GLOBAL)
4. run the flash tool and update phone to 2.1
5. reroot phone with z4root and reinstall backup software
6. recover all backups and you are now done!
i should clarify also.....the reason i have recommended you NOT to use the xRecovery menu is fairly simple. If you are not planning on constantly flashing new ROMs and booting into other ROMS, then its simply not necessary for you.
The benefits of xRec are that you can take a complete backup of your phone, flash it with something else and then recover the backup when you are done. Its a simple way to flash new roms quickly, but as i said, not really necessary for you.
Flashtool is very easy to use, all the instructions are provided on the screen, and it is done in 5 minutes also, there are lots and lots of tutorials posted around the place too.
good luck!

You are on point MRTIM, I can't argue with what you said. But like he mentioned on his first post, his wife broke the USB on the phone that's why he is doing it the long way.
@Scribbling Are you pressing the back button on the phone as soon as you see the white SE screen?
If you are still having trouble there is another way. One thing I failed to mention is the new version of xrecovery 0.3 is an actual APK file. That means you can just download it to your PC, transfer to your SD card, browse to the location on your phone then tap to install it. If you need a browser you can use ASTRO FILE MANAGER from the Market which is free.
PLEASE NOTE AND I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. If you are going to try and reinstall the xrecovery APK package, make sure to uninstall BUSYBOX then pull any xrecovery files that you already pushed to the phone prior to installing the v0.3 APK.
Let us know if you have any other questions. I agree with MRTIM, why stop now? You are almost there.
Thanks.
Broken Usb is the annoying bit
I'll try installing Xrecovery as an apk.
Ugh..... Xrecovery could not be installed to this device. I'll try Xrec 0.2 later, if I can find the will.

[Q] What can i do ? After cf-root

Hi all,
I rooted my SGS2 yesterday with chainfire's post which worked GREAT but where can i go from here? advise would be good
I used cf-root,KF3 kernel and then went back to the stock KF3.
Ive had problems when trying to access the INTERNET today (nothing would load) then i cleared the cache and rebooted the phone. I.E wouldn't work but went to orangeworld and i could view the net but when i tryed to access pages on xda, potuk it kept coming up with orange safeguard. So i rung orange and complained that something was wrong with my phone. They tryed 3 setting messages and nothing would work. They asked me to try and access my account from my phone and that kept comming up with a error message "didn't reconise my phone" SGS2. They came back to me and said that second line support had found a problem with my account and needed to do something, and to try my phone again in 2 hrs NO JOY still around 07.30 am. 12.30 i get home and get a phone call from orange saying "try my phone now" All good seems fixed. They also gave my £10 credit on my next bill ???????? Why??????
add applications or themes to customize your phone to what ever you like. Most application a dn other programs on this and other sites require a rooted phone.
Can i use roms and things like that? if so which ones can i use with having root and
being on this:
XXKE7
XWKF3
Roms will either have root in them or not .
Use whatever rom you want .
A suggestion would be to start with an easy rom like Cognition .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396
Simple install as below .
I highly recommend flashing the full rom! (updates can be unpredictable)
(If you have problems with the update version, flash the full rom instead)
BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!
Download the rom zip from below (don't rename it!)
Put the downloaded zip file on your internal sdcard
Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery (don't do this from rom manager, it won't work)
Select Install zip from sdcard
Select Browse for zip on sdcard
Select the zip file you put on your sdcard above
(Let it flash)
Reboot, Enjoy!

Cant install apps on Cyanogen Froyo CM6

I'm having problem installing applications after I flashed with Cyanogen Froyo CM6 on my mini pro. Every time I try to install something it just hangs for a while and then reboots.
Tried Wipe Dalvik Cache
Tried hunting down mdl2tmp1.asec
rm /mnt/secure/asec/smdl2tmp1.asec
rm: can't remove '/mnt/secure/asec/smdl2tmp1.asec': No such file or directory
Someone sayd it might exist on the sdcard so I formated that.
Whiped everything with a factory reset and did the root (SuperOneClick) /cwm (CWM_INSTALL.exe)/custom rom (slade87_MiniCM_v6.01.zip) thing again.
Tried installing Cynogen Gingerbread CM7
Tried disabling JIT.
Nothing seem to help and it dont matter if I install an application from market or the sdcard. It download fine from makret but when the installation starts the phone just reboots.
Never mind
I found how to solve it. There seem to be some kind of problem with the location settings. I changed it from automatic under
settings/CM settings/app settings/Install location
WELL DONE MATEY!!!! I couldnt find this solution in ANY of the FAQ's etc. Been driving me mad since flashing to froyo last night!
A total noob at all this, but lovin it!!
X10 Mini Pro, running FroyoBread 6.1, xRecovery - SWEET!

urukdroid messed up - help please

Hi,
I've upgraded to urukdroid 1.6.4, the upgrade went smooth but afterwards I got stuck in a bootloop...
Found that is was related to overclocking so I disabled this in the rescue menu and I could start up again.
I had some issues with some apps which is a known bug apparently so I wanted to install 1.6.2 instead but I couldn't access the "/data/UrukUpdate" directory.
Turns out none of my apps - with exception of titanium backup - are getting su access any more (not even the superuser app)
I tried fix permissions from the rescue menu, doesn't help.
I want to do a reinstall of urukdroid now but when I go to "Boot Menu" and choose "Developer edition" urukdroid just starts up, I don't see the UrukDroid Installation framework
I was hoping that someone could tell me the steps to reinstall 1.6 as clean as possible
thx!
b
Did you try to put the kernel files? ;o
1.Hold volume+
2.Enter the recovery menu
3.Browse thru the settings and enter Developer Edition Menu
4.Choose to flash zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz
5.Let the device reboot and you will see the installation screen.
Tip: Make sure you download Urukdroid 1.6 installation pack (rar). Everything you need is there. I'm using 1.6.2 because with 1.6.3/4 I can't install apps sometimes.
thanks, this worked!
