[Q] HD2 stucks while flashing HSPL @ loading... - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
gave my HD2 away for an repair - was not repairable so I obtained a brand new one.
Now I has been t-mobile branded (NO TMOUS!) and has an 1.42.6666 SPL.
Everytime I try to install HSPL it goes into bootloader, show the tricolour-screen and switches to "loading..." there it stucks.
For flashing another radio I used SSPL as also for my ROM - but this is not a situation in which I want keep it.
What can I do to flash HSPL?
Regards and thanks in advance!
Maeffjus

When I remember correctly, 1.42.6666 SPL is indeed SSPL.
Which version of HSPL.exe did you try? Which stock ROM is on your device?

Can't flash radio with SSPL.
Get a stock rom, phone into boooader, usb, flash rom.
If still problems, flash stock rom from sd card.

Nope, I tried to put a rom on SD - it also stuck while pressing the volume down-button after tricolour-screen...

What SD card do you use? Bigger ones tend not to work.
Is it formatted FAT32?

confusion with spl
spl 1.42.6666 is spl 3.03. confirm this by going into boot loader with out connected to P.C.
use hspl4.exe to back track to 2.08. or use a spl 3.03 friendly rom

no, sspl changes your spl (any spl) to 1.42.6666 just for one reboot.
sspl - soft spl - works for one boot then your normal spl is restored.
hspl - hard spl - once installed can only be removed by hspl.exe or sd card flash.

try smaller sd card. fair few people reported 8gb not working.
alternatively run hspl and choose your stock spl from there.
That worked

When I run HSPL3 again I can only choose 2.08 spl and I wanted to get back to the original 1.42 spl - any hints?
The reason is because I want to install the new official 3.14 rom from HTC and I've read that this is not so good with HSPL3 on the phone.

The 2.08 SPL is also an official/original SPL version (don't choose SPL2.08 HSPL!!).
If you have 2.08 SPL, you can also upgrade safely to the new 3.14 ROM.

Thanks.
But can I, after I've used HSPL3 to install SPL 2.08, install an old official 1.66 rom with SPL 1.42? and will this remove HSPL3 and return my phone to SPL 1.42?
I asking because I've read on this great site, that the new rom 3.14 uses spl 3.03 and it's incompatible with spl 2.08 as well as with HSPL3?

depends how you flash it, , over usb, hspl will remain, via sd card, hspl will be removed. You can also do it by running hspl2 and choosing 1.42.0000, no need to flash anything

correct, you would show only 50 meg ram (I believe, i havent tried it yet, gonna wait till hspl or my carier version of 3.x comes out)

Already tried to flash official 1.66 rom via sd card, but was unsuccesfull - no errors but nothing happened - didn't remove hspl3.

sure, the actual 2.08 spl/hspl contained in hspl3 is exactly the same as in hspl2, only difference is that hspl2 is more versatile (more spl/hspl options) and hspl3 supports telstra and tmous phones.
For regular hd2 users, hspl2 is the better option.
(Plus hspl2 detects what you currently have running, and offers you the opposite, so if it detects spl 1.66.0000 it defaults to offering you 1.66.hspl.
hspl3 on the other hand always offers you 2.08.0000 and many MANY noobs have just simply hit 'go' without changing the dropdown and then think they now have hspl installed, and they dont, causing much confusion and hundreds of 'oh my god it doesnt work' posts.)

Yes freshly formatted fat32 1gb card - and nothing. But I have the spl 2.08 hspl and not the spl 2.08 on the phone. Perhaps thats the reason?
I'll try and find the hspl 2 and see if I can change to spl 1.42 that way and then I'll install old stock rom 1.66 via sd to remove hspl and then upgrade to the new 3.14 rom.
Does this sound like an ok approach?

if hspl has been removed you don't need to flash from sd card. the spl will be updated by normal usb flash. only need to use sd card if hspl is still installed.
just flashed mine.......great
I am having the same problem HSPL 2.08 and trying to flash from a FAT 32 2GB SD card with Stock rom 3.14 (LEOIMG.NBH) and I get to the grey screen saying loading and it just stays there.
Any advice?
I put on HSPL 2.08 (though Bootloader just reads 2.08).
Will try tnad flash to 1.42 using HSPL and see if I have any luck.
it doesn't "just read 2.08" it reads either 2.08.0000 or 2.08.hspl, there's a huge difference.
also, if you need hspl because there isn't a stock 3.14 for your phone, you should know that
o sdcard i that nstall 3.14 it won't flash anyway. (step one of sd card flashing is the spl gets updated to 3.03, second it checks the cid and region, finds they don't match, and you get rom upgrade code error.
if you use hspl to customruu install 3.14 it will install and run but be very buggy and only 60mb free ram because spl isn't 3.03.
Ok so I flashed my device to 2.08.hspl - 3.14 then installed happy days.
Not content I decided to run task29 then install 3.14 off the SD card. It got have way through and errored. It changed my SPL from 2.08.hspl to 3.03.0000 but gave a wrong ROM code error please try again.
I think I need to put on the stock rom (it's a stock HTC phone) but it wont accept the 3.14 I have nor the 1.48 I have downloaded.
I try to download 3.14 off the HTC software support site but it tells me that software is'nt for my phone?! it's a late 2010 model (got it mid nov 2010 already had 3.14 when I got it.)
I tried to revert it back to 2.08.hspl but HSPL3 wont recognise the SPL.
Any ideas?
YOU CANNOT INSTALL 3.14 USING HSPL - YOU GET LOW MEMORY AND UNSTABLE PHONE.
you now need to flash back to a correct stock rom. usb is fine, no need for sd card.
Thanks,
I've figured as much but when I try to install the correct stock rom (3.14.405.2 unbranded WWE) it wont load up!
Just does 1% then goes to the software update failed please try again.
so basically my question is what is the correct stock rom for me? because the Stock 3.14 and Stock 1.48 file I downloaded neither work!
Message on bootloader screen as follows -
RUUNBH
PB81100 SS-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP (LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x05
Upgrade ROM Code Error
Please Try again
Just spoke with HTC informed I have a Swiss device!!!! so basically Exspansys sent me a swiss device with WWE 3.14 rom how the hell did they do that or why even?! any way i degress.
Installing the German 3.14 rom now seems to be working will then enternain thenotion of switching languages using goldcard....cherrs for your help.
no need for goldcard.
you already have spl 3.03.0000 from the german rom so just use SSPL to flash.
Tried 3.14 WWE using SSPL_RUU
It gives the usual 00028002 erorr (or 294 Invalid Vendor ID)
I was under the impression now I have a German HD2 with the correct German 3.14 rom with the correct 3.03 SPL I cant flash any other roms with out going down the HSPL route (which cannot be done correctly with 3.03 any way)
I want the stock WWE 3.14 rom and it looks like the only way is the goldcard method? Unless you have any ideas?!?!!?!?
Cheers

[Q] Flashing my HD2 to T-Mobile OEM Spl from HARDspl

Morning,
I have a T-mobile HD2 I used the HARDspl 2.8 and I'm unable to return my device to the OEM SPL...
I tried copying the file to my card, renaming it to LEOIMG.nbh however the device will only flash the gray screen and return to the rainbow screen... Any advise?
Regards,
run hspl3 choose 2.08.0000
thats stock
If you want to go up to 2.10 (no real need. but its nice to match if you have the 2.13 rom) then remove hspl first as above, then run the 2.13 rom flash over usb
I was able to get it to revert to 2.08.0000, but I believed it was 2.10 or 3.10 after the TMO update to 3.14. Heck I have no idea and to be honest, this is the west my phone has worked since I first purchased it! LOL
it should be stock spl 3.03 now, and it works! winner.

There is no HSPL version present yet who is compatible with SPL 3.03
We need to wait sir
Ow Ps, do you have a Branded UK Orange device?
no its unbranded
Any updates on hspl for this yet
if its unbranded just flash a stock 1.66 to downgrade the spl then hspl as before.
Hi. I am on 3.14, i would need to downgrade too...
would this file i found online be good? :
RUU_Leo_HTC_NLD_1.66.404.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.0 ΒΆ
7U_2.06.51.07_Ship
Its 1.66.404.1 but not 1.66.0000.. is this a problem?
I need to find a stock rom on NLD (dutch) to downgrade before putting my HSPL... Why is it so hard to find an original file from factory, say 1.42 in everylanguage?
And what is the difference by downgrading to 1.42 or 1.66?
Thank you kind sirs
1.66.404.1 is rom version,,, 1.66.0000 is the spl version.
yes that rom should be fine assuming you have an unbranded hd2. doesn't matter which you downgrade to, they both will allow hspl.
its not at all difficult to find them.
look for "leo official roms" thread, in rom development section, and in there, first post first link takes you to most of the roms.
Samsamuel, thx a lot for that positive answer HD2 is indeed unbranded.
makes me feel better, been in despair with my dutch HD2...
So its finally clearer to me, 0000 is SPL and XXX is rom version
But to Downgrade, a non SPL version is ok then?
But to install HSPL, i need an SPL version?
And one last thing, can i install all of this stuff without booting from SDmini?
Those were the old procedures, no?
Thx!
all stock roms come with a version of spl, but it doesn't say which spl in the filename.
1.43 and 1.48 roms come with spl 1.42.0000
1.66 and 1.72 roms have spl 1.66.0000
3.14 comes with spl 3.03.0000 and hspl doesn't work with it.
the numbers you see in the filename are rom (1.66.404.1) and radio (2.06.51.07) versions, not spl.
when you look in bootloader at spl, it will always end either .0000 or .hspl where 0000 is stock.
it doesn't matter which spl you have, so long as it isn't spl 3.03 then hspl will work and allow you to flash roms andradios.
Thx! Even clearer now
Unfortunately, i am currently on 3.14.. i tried installing a lower version ROM (1.66, the link i put earlier) but it didnt work..
How can i downgrade to those versions who enable me to use HSPL? Once u have a higher rom, it detects lower and u cant downgrade?
Is the only method to flash with SDcard?

Then that isn't your stock rom. (Although you didnt say why it didnt work, , ) if its teh right rom it will work
I think i managed to install my English pack allright!
I installed the earliest official pack from HTC, rom 1.48
Then installed HSPL3, then my official HTC WWE 3.14 rom!
Confirmed, it works!!!
Again, Thank you for your time and your explanations of roms!
See you around on the forums, mate!
dont smile too soon, if you flashed a 3.14 rom whilst spl is installed then you will have memory and stability issues.
Go to
settings menu all settings system memory, what does it show for free program memory? around 50meg? should be about 140.
Couldnt really find "memory settings" but what if ound was this:
Total storage: 176 mb
Used storage 56
Free storage 119 mb
TOtal programm 208 MB
Used program 163 mb
free programm 45 mb
NO SD CARD (must buy one tomorrow lol)
So, as u said, its around 40 mb.. What should have i done better?
Also, what is the difference in the SPL?
I mean, from factory settings, i upgraded to 3.14.
With HSPL, i upgraded to 3.14
What difference does it make, isnt it the same? Doesnt 3.03 spl install itself?
Anyways, will be glad to hear your comments on my new problem then haha
not through usb flash. If hspl is installed it remains installed.
3.14 roms must have spl 3.03.0000
Before the 3.14 roms it didnt matter, all roms worked on any version spl, but the 3.14 roms dont.
You should have removed hspl first, (so that your spl ends .0000) then flashed the 3.14 rom, , this allows it to upgrade spl to 3.03.0000
Hhm, i really dont wanna brick my HD2 with all those stability issues.. is there a risk if i leave it like that?
Anyways, i'll restart the instalations then. I checked on bootloader, currently this is what i have: SPL-2.08 HSPL 8G XE
How should i proceed? Should i flash from SD card a 3.14 directly WWE? I have nothing yet on my HD2, (using 3.14 WWE official rom from HTC website) so i dont really care about flashing, reinstalling, hard resets
Just give me advice on how to proceed to have the perfect installation
Is a flash from SD card obligatory? But that would get rid of HSPL, no? and if i get rid of HSPL, my HD2 is going to go back to its original language (DUTCH), right? I want to avoid putting my HD2 in that language...
Say, if i SDFLASH the latest rom WWE (even though my HD2 previously to HSPL only accepted NLD (hence dutch) roms), will it work?
Sorry for taking up so much of ur time, but ur comments are so helpful
connect to usb, put the phone in bootloader.
then
run hspl2
choose 1.66.0000
when phone reboots, quickly hold voldown to reenter bootloader
run the 3.14.exe
Thx for the quick reply.
Why would i use HSPL 2 now, i was using the HSPL 3 before? Isnt it the latest most stable one tu use?
Can i still run HSPL3 and choose 1.66? (i think not actually i only had choice of 2.08)..
So can i run HSPL3 and then re run with HSPL2??? It wont have compatibility issues?
And how to install the exe while in bootloader? Is it a flash from SD Card?
What will happen if i leave my 3.14 in the 2.08 SPL? only stability issues? No risk of bricking, or long term affecting negatively the phone?
So many questions.. hope u can answer all of them..
Also, one last big question: Now that HSPL is installed, isnt it easier to simply, when i recieve my SD card, to flash a WWE official rom 3.14? wouldnt that do the trick? Or i need to go through HSPL2 for sure?
Thx again!
the .exe's are just installers, the spl/hspl inside is the same. So, the 2.08.hspl in hspl3, the actual code that gets flashed to your bootloader, is IDENTICAL to 2.08.hspl in hspl2.
But, hspl3 only has 2.08.0000 and 2.08.hspl as options, but since spl 2.08 isn't stock for your phone, if you ever needed to get back to stock, you can do that with hspl2, but not hspl3, so since the one version of spl/hspl that they both contain (2.08) is teh same, and hspl2 has extra options for a non tmous user, why use hspl3? there is no reason.
Oh, and whilst we're at it, hspl2 detects which spl you currently have and offers you the opposite (so if it finds 1.42.0000 it sets the dropdown to 1.42.hspl)
HSPL3 doesnt do this, it always offers you 2.08.0000 until you manually change it, and many a newb has just clicked OK and thinks they have installed hspl, when in fact they haven't.
Lol, i be one of the many noobs.. But in my bootloader, it says i have installed HSPL, so.. i guess its installed!
Will follow your recommendations, but just one last thing
How to remove this current HSPL3 then and restart the steps with HSPL2? You said that
"But, hspl3 only has 2.08.0000 and 2.08.hspl as options, but since spl 2.08 isn't stock for your phone, if you ever needed to get back to stock, you can do that with hspl2, but not hspl3, so since the one version of spl/hspl that they both contain (2.08) is teh same, and hspl2 has extra options for a non tmous user, why use hspl3? there is no reason"
I used HSPL3 because i read on forums thats its better to use the latest HSPL as the previous versions usually are out of date.. seems i was mistaken then... Also, i used HSPL3 because it was compatible with any 1.XX rom, and i could only downgrade as low as 1.48. Would HSPL2 be able to be installed on 1.48 official rom? I thought highest HSPL2 could work on was 1.42?
So you say that now that i have installed HSPL3, i cannot go back to stock? Im sure there would be a way, but what should i do then?
Should i just flash some stock rom from SD card, hoping it takes HSPL3 away, and restart procedure with HSPL2?
Or with USB sync i can restart the procedure, by just openiong HSPL2 without touching any rom?

only choose 2.08.0000 if you have a tmous.

any spl that ends 0000 is stock and warranty is valid.
as for sd card, is it a 4gb or bigger card? if so, thats why it doesnt work. best results use a 2gb card.

oohh noo...another problem, I managed to install LEOIMG.nbh through sd card but now it wont boot and STUCK on HTC Logo, then to get it working I installed dutty v13 ROM that worked without any problem? couldnt understand how and why as where LEOIMG.nbh was installed without any error..
now I am on hspl 2.08
dutty v13 ROM
2.15.50
after fresh install phone memory is 11.30mb???
another thing i noticed when i installed dutty v13 the custom ruu.exe shows no ROM previously installed but when I click upgrade/update then it shows dutty v13 will be installed..i dont know why it didnt shown me the branded ROM installed already like 1.72 etc.. I hope you understand what I mean.
I tried to install Energy latest ROm as well that didnt boot either, only Dutty works??
Please guide me what to do?
Regards
it doesn't show the previous rom info if you put the phone in bootloader yourself before running customruu. this is because the "upgrade from" info gets taken from the registry which it can't do when the phone is in bootloader. its nothing to worry about.

also i just installed artemis 48.1 and phone memory is 11.30 mb available?
You keep on saying that it is a branded phone - to whom is it branded (O2, Vodafone, etc) and which country?
the 1.66 ROM is the HTC unbranded version. 1.72 ROMs are the branded versions (except for the T-Mobile USA versions).
Boot up into BootLoader (Press and Hold the Volume Down button then tap the Power button); tell us what it says on the coloured screen.

Sir the problem of small available memory is mostly cause to the combination of stock ROM 3.14 and HSPL.
So remove your HSPL before installing stock ROM 3.14

i think my stock o2 rom is 1.72 and they not yet released 3.14, you think this could be the reason I am unable to downgrade to stock ROM from 3.14 and that's why only Dutty ROM works with HSPL 2.08 and Artemis with SSPL 1.42.666 etc..

O2 users who will like to use a 3.14 stock ROM need to use the GoldCard technique.

hspl 2.08 was installed when I was using Dutty V13 on HD2 however to install Artemis 48.1 I used SSPL so now my boot loader screen shows 1.42.6666 etc.
I tried to flash with SD card to put Branded ROM 02 1.72 that didnt boot and stuck on HTC Logo..

To go from your allowed 1.72 ROM or HSPL'd Dutty V13 ROM to Artemis 48.1 ROM, then you need to remove the HSPL (use HSPL2 and change SPL to 1.66.0000) and then READ the Artemis ROM thread.
You can only use Gold Card method to get Artemis 48.1 ROM flashing. SSPL is only used if you already have a Artemis 4X.X ROM or another 3.14 ROM already running.

for info the spl only shows 1.42.6666 for one reboot cycle. once you reboot the phone, the spl returns to what it was before.

[Q] I am truly stumped........(Won't flash)

So the short version of the beginning of the story, my phone became radio blocked after I HSPL3 before upgrading to a better radio. I followed these instruction to get it back to the shipped ROM.
The problem......I am at the end of the instructions where it is back to the test ROM that the OP states in the above linked thread:
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.02.531.MASD_S__Radio_Signed_15 .29.50.07U_2.06.50.04_TeleNav-5.5.42.zip
It turns on normally and works, but it is SPL-2.00.1000 and it will only allow me to go up to SPL-2.02, buit not above that. (So I cannot load my shipped rom) When I try to do any ROM above that it get's me stuck at the Loading Screen or if on the comp it gets stuck at 0%
I am TMOUS and I have looked all over this website a thousand times and can't find any answers.......This is not my first round with the HD2 as I used this website to HSPL3 my other one run Energy rom and macfroyo 1.8.
Any help is appreciated...
Can you not flash the 2.03 or 2.05 ROM? Just to reiterate though.
Do not flash the 2.01 ROM from that thread as it will brick your HD2.
It let me flash 2.03 but not 2.05

What SPL does that rom have with it? Go to bootloader to see what SPL you have after you flash the 2.03 ROM.
After I flash the 2.03 it says 2.02.0000

Ok you still do not have a SPL version that you can flash HSPL with. So do this I know you said it will not let you flash the 2.05 ROM so go to the 2.07 ROM and flash it, if it will ledt you flash that ROM check your SPL. If it is not a SPL that is in the list I posted below then move to the very next ROM wich is 2.09 and then check the SPL after flashing it. Keep doing this until you flash a ROM that gives you one of the SPLs in the list below then you can flash HSPL and then flash a custom ROM or the official update ROM from T-Mobile.
SPL 1.42.0000
SPL 1.62.0000
SPL 1.66.0000
SPL 2.07.0000
SPL 2.08.0000
SPL 2.10.0000
Okay, so I have tried every ROM and every one of them except 2.02 and 2.03 get stuck at the loading screen.
In the list of roms in that thread, the last entry in the list is hspl edited to work with spl 2.0 did you try that yet?
Sam is talking about this ROM "HSPL with MFG SPL 2.00 support" in that thread.
Okay so I was able to flash the HSPL on the 2.02 and then got it to the most recent update for TMOUS. I then put energy ROM on there and MattcFroyo1.8 desire android on there. This is the same exact set-up on my other HD2, but I am now having trouble with getting the phone to be consistant. I was able to boot the ENRG and Froyo, but after 10-20 minutes it froze. I can get ENRG to boot most the the time, but other times it comes to the boot screen and freezes, or it will come to the boot screen and vibrate 3x's and freeze. Not sure what to do at this point.

The three vibrations is not a good sign, it is a sign that something in the hard ware is malfunctioning.
