andy's, mik's, or noejn's gb rom? - Optimus One, P500, V General

which do you prefer?

I prefer andy's gingerbread rom. It's really fast, smooth and stable with a awesome battery life. Everything works great, no important bugs for me at all. I'm really satisfied.

Miks ROM i like personally

Is Andy's ROM feature-complete relative to the stock LG ROM?

No, you are wrong, it is compatible with clockworkmod, that's why I flashed his rom.
Read the first post in andy's thread. It says that he has added support to ClockworkMod and removed support for AmonRA.

IMHO mik's rom is more stable, but Andy's rom have better battery life and feels a bit faster. I am yet to try Noejn's version.
Btw thanks to all three of them for great community work. We couldn't enjoy our phones as much without their support

I prefer mik's because andy's sucked my phone dry in under 20h.
I flashed and reflashed it and still nothing. Made sure to delete, wipe everything, format everything, and still 10% battery drain every hour.
I don't know what's wrong with it but something is definitely wrong.
I installed mik's and everything is back to normal with good battery life.

One should consider the differences:
Njoelns GB misses a lot of system apps
Andys GB has crappy bluetooth audio, so you cannot use it hands-free
Miks GB seems to have the most features
I had very bad battery drain with Miks and Andys ROMs, even after calibrating, but I stopped testing them 4 weeks ago (need a workable phone sometimes ;-), so they may have changed that.
I am back to Ciaox-Froyo, which has very good battery life for my usage profile.

Using Mik's CM7..havnt used any other..its almost complete & i am lovin it ..

oh good to know thanks

I tried mik's and andy's ROMs, and i really liked both of them, they are as good each other.
But i prefer andy's ROM because it includes the new LG theme, and i really like that one

thanks for all your responses! but, is andy's kernel better than franco's? i want to flash a new rom because i want to experience something new for my phone

Mik's ROM
(+)
stable
more apps
performs well on all games
(-)
Battery becomes too hot sometimes
Battery Drain is huge during calls other times its fine
Noejn's ROM
(+)
the interface seems to be very smooth
gaming performance is same as MIK's, i found no difference between the two rom's performance wise
(-)
nothing really, has less apps but if you have titanium backup you can load all your apps and data anyway
some tabs in setting like volume and display brightness give you force closes
------------------------
i don't use GPS, and Data and Sync are always off both perform same battery back up wise
and i use franco kernel most updated one
Going to try Andy's ROM in a few mins

Andy's rom:
1. Stable
2. Excellent performance in games/No lag whatsoever
3. No battery drain if you calibrate the battery, and let the battery to settle down.
4. Gingerbread makes it special
5. Nice new icons/style which makes the rom more sweet
6. I love it.
-
Nothing except the known bugs posted by Andy.

using Andy's ROM right now, Everything's fine no problems so far
i have not yet done any battery calibration.
+ Battery drain 2% 7hrs (i.e. not used the phone a all). Runs cooler than MIK's i think, i' m not yet completely sure
+ Performance isn't any different from other GB rom's, its just as good
- screen take a little more time to wake with the push of button, but can get used to it
its a actually a difficult choice to select one best GB ROM out of three... all are good

most economical rom?

Hey guys I love all these custom ROM's but honestly the battery gets drained so fast it takes the fun out of it. I was wondering if there was any specific ROMs that were easier on the battery>?? The only feature I truly use on these things is the wifi tether, other than that I don't care if the phone is a litte slower etc, i just want to be able to make it a day on 1 battery..TIA
I can easily make it a full day with the PowerWashed 2.0b3. Yet I also have Juice Defender Ultimate installed.
Ill be quite honest, gingerbread is not what its cracked up to be imo... I have found that powerwashed 1.2 ed05 froyo w/ pbj 0808 kernal is one of the most stable roms out there. Im getting between 1.5-2% percent battery drain per hr. That means I go 2 days without charging the phone with normal use. Heavy use such as browsing the internet for a couple hrs and sending dozens of texts usually equates to charging the battery once a day or slightly better. The only issue is not all fascinates play nice with the -100 undervolt that the pbj kernal has built in. If thats the case, then just run the otb fusion kernal that come with pw 1.2...battery life is still good(2.5% per hr) and you can overclock with that kernal, but truthfully overclocking does not really improve much imo.
Wow thanks guys! Yea I am on MIUI and its horrible.. I will look into the ROMs you guys suggested..thanks!
vanilla gb is insane. running with the glitch 9/15 kernel, undervolted, smartass, noop and usas tweak applied, simply the fastest rom i've ever used battery is also holding up really well, but I have the naztech 2400 installed just yesterday, so battery should only get better with more charges. pwgb is also really good, but the file system is still samsung rfs, which is really slow. Pw froyo is probably the better choice for most people with pbjt kernel which has voodoo. Ill stick with vgb and see how battery does and if it doest yield me 6hrs of screen on time ill switch back to pw froyo and see how it does.

Ok sweet! Yea, everything seems to be good, only issue I am having is in BLN it says the Biblight isnt working or something like that..Voodoo control is g2g, just the BLN. I'll have to look into it
I had the same problem with bln not working on this kernel. What worked for me was to flash the older 0531 kernel first, then flash the 0808 kernel. Bln works fine after that.

Actually pwgb beta 3 with adrenaline shot mod is yielding some crazy results for me. Screenshots to follow when battery decides its held on long enough.
Only my 2nd day on ED05 powerwashed w/ pbj0808, but man I must be doing something wrong. At BEST my battery is draining roughly 5% an hour and thats with practically little to no use. NO clue how you guys are getting such good battery life...

What kind of programs do you have open/on, on a daily basis? I found that twitter absolutely destroyed my battery. I actually turned notifications off unless its a DM or @ me, otherwise I just open Plume and refresh to read the timelines.
Its doing A LOT better since then. I haven't used the phone much, but its only at 75% and Its 140pm, been off the charger since 6am

@Droidstyle: I was thinkin of trying out for starters the rom you recommended "powerwash 1.2 ed05 froyo w/ pbj 0808 kernal" but when i did a search for powerwash 1.2 the thread mentioned that it was outdated and to try gingerbread...just a little confused since i'm still new at this: considering my samsungs fascinate uses this base band (this is the general info of my phone Model : SCH-I500
Firmware Version 2.2.2
Baseband Version: S:I500.04 V.ED05
Kernel: Version 2.6.32.9 )
i will have to use a rom that supports ED05? or am i okay to try out any of these roms? did a lot of reasearch today, just trying to narrow it down as to which rom will be the most apt for me (meaning which one will i get the best use out of) and what will i be able to do after that? do i apply themes from the themes section, or i can only do that if they correspond to that specific rom? to anyone in the room please enlighten me, i've spent almost all of today researching this and would greatly appreciate help from the experienced...

Im not sure why he did that... Its a very functional rom and is up to date as much as it needs to be. Read my guide, uses that rom for an example on how to install a froyo rom. You are not limited to what your base band shows, you can flash 2.3.4 gingerbread roms if u like,, but they still have a few minor bugs. Actually 2.2.2 pw 1.2 ed05 is the most functional rom up to date imo... everything lse still has minor bugs to work out.
@DroidStyle thanks man, your guide to flashing power wash is pretty direct, but i'm a little lost here...Isn't the Rom mgr. program you install for the market used for flashin the Roms so that you don't have to odin the rom to the fascinate? also, can I apply whatever themes? ...ie: are those used to customize ur GUI?

Stay away from rom manager!!!! It only works for the mtd based roms such as cm7, miui, aosp... even then odin is a much more reliable way to work with the fascinate. imo just get use to the fact that your going to have to use odin most of the time when flashing.

Best rom battery wise

So im using MIUI Galnet ICS with Siyah kernel, and i completely love almost everything about this rom, but i say almost because my battery life is not so good i get like 13 hours with pretty low use.
So my question is:
What rom has the best battery life, fairly smooth and stable (battery life at highest priority)? What would be the best kernel (battery wise) to use with this ROM?
Another question kinda not on topic but anyways;
If my phone fell a few times (sometimes on side, sometimes on screen sometimes on back)(with screen protector and back cover) can any of the internal components get damaged? cuz sometimes the phone gets minor freezes.
P.S.
I have been told CheckromRevolution 5.5 is probably one of the best roms battery wise, the thing is there is CheckRomRevolution HD 3.1.x now
So which CheckRom ROM has best battery life?
The best ROM for battery life is the one which is so bad, it makes you not want to use the phone.
Currently using Simple and Clean with Speedmod. Pretty good, but it's just my first discharge cycle so I can't judge yet, but I definitely see some improvements from Litening. CheckROM and Sensation 1.9 also seems decent. Cognition as well.

This will depend on so many variables, network, location, Modem, ROM, Kernel, user installs of software, wake locks, bad signal.......
Hence the only way to find is via flashing bedding testing....
As you will notice users can have same setup but very different outcomes..
Using CWM backup you can always revert to stable setup.
On that note thread closed...

Any recent roms that are fully stable?

Seems that every ROM I look at in here has a bunch of issues. I'm coming over from the OG Evo, and know nothing about photon's development- although I get the gist its an underappreciated device. Just looking for something to make it worth rooting the photon, which is a great phone imo.

CM7 and CM9 are the best. Use both of them, CM7 is more stable and all works, but CM9 is very smooths and awesome!

As quick as it is to root the Photon I would do it just for the ability to use root apps. Then, try some of the custom locked roms available before you unlock. CM9 is a great rom but still a beta and has issues such as camera, signal, battery, etc. which is to be expected.
I still prefer the stock rom just because of full functionality, battery life, and signal quality but there are many good custom roms based off stock builds (which I have not tried) that might work well for you.
Running CM7 here and am happy with that as my daily driver. Not brave enough to try CM9 but that's just my personal preference/bias. Joker's non CM9 roms & Lokifish Marz's roms are also good choices.
Three great roms:
-CM7 (KANG)
-ROCKO 3.0 (NOT 3.5)
-Imperium Initiative 1.04
As for which is better... It's a tossup. CM7 last longer, but ROCKO feels more fluid and user friendly. CM7 is more technical...
CM9 is very impressive but it is a beta.

I'd like to quickly point out that Jokersax's CyanogenMod 9 beta is honestly pretty stable. The camera, MMS, signal, and battery life is very much exceeding my expectations, considering this is a rom that is labelled as a beta.
I'd also like to state my opinions towards the OP's original question: In order of stability, here is what I would recommend.
1-Stock. (obviously).
2-HomeBase
3-CyanogenMod 7.2
4-RockoRom 3.0 (3.5 is good as well, but based on experience I recommend 3.0)
5-Jokersax's CyanogenMod 9, link is in the beginning of my post.
6-Imperium Initiative
Finally, 7-[email protected]/[email protected]
The rom I use the most is Jokersax's CyanogenMod 9. It's a very good rom.
Quickly-- One last thing. If you DO flash a rom, please please please PLEASE do not complain about the battery life until you do these steps:
~Let your battery drain to 0%
~Charge your battery to 100%
~Wipe battery stats via the advanced menu in a custom recovery(recommended), or an application
~Drain battery to 0%, then charge to 100%.
Then you can complain about the battery life... if it's bad, that is. Lol.

I was comparing CM9 to stock and there is no way CM9 has better battery than stock. Not even close. In my experience with running CM roms on multiple devices they all seem to drain the battery more I would assume due to the kernels used. I know this doesn't really have anything to do with stability but relates to the overall feel of the OP question I think which is why I mentioned it.
With that said roms are going to run different for each user especially with a beta build.

I don't quite remember saying that the battery life was better than stock... But surely sir, you must be doing something wrong. I have 2 photons running cm9, one is activated and one is not, the one that is activated has the minimum at 216 mhz and the max at 1300 mhz, and it's usual cpu is going at 800mhz-ish. the one that is not activated is clocked to the max at 1300mhz constantly, min is 1300 and max is obviously 1300. they both run roughly the same amount of time before dying, usually 7/8hrs. with stock, not rooted, my batter lasts anywhere from 8-9hrs being heavily used.
I never said that the battery life was better than stock on cm9, i said it was EXCEEDING MY EXPECTATIONS FOR A BETA. Sir, you honestly should double check the post of which you're criticizing before you make such an accusation.
And of course roms are going to be different for everybody, depending on how they use it and what they do with it. I've only tweaked jokersax's build to fix the mms issue, as his fix doesn't help. my fix helps ME, but considering the fact that jokersax's fix works for plenty of others, that obviously points out the fact that roms run differently for everybody.
One last thing; who's cm9 build are you talking about? because you mentioned bugs, and jokersax's barely has any. the battery life issue has a solution that can be found at the end of my first post. please, read it.

I will say it.... jokers cm9 roms battery life kick the crap out of stock. It does have some pretty annoying bugs tho.... like everytime you rotate the screen while using the browser it force closes, or the camera that doesn't take great pictures...mainly with the flash. But other than that it does work pretty well.
I did just switch to cm7 and while everything on it seems to work great, the battery life is no where near as good as cm9.
Btw both I have Max CPU at 1000.

I will only comment on a few items because we could go about this all day with really no positive outcome and the thread will be hijacked.
First, I am not doing anything wrong. This is not my first rodeo. Yes, I know about the battery "conditioning" steps at the end of your post. This is part of flashing 101. With what I am running on my phone it just wasn't the life I needed it to be.
With that said I agree with you on CM9 exceeding expectations. Great rom but OP was looking for a stable rom and beta versions have bugs.
We can agree to disagree and put it to rest?

miracle v4 VS adrenaline rom

hi folks
im kinda new to the custom roms and phone flashing
plz forgive any ignorance
to the matter at hand
ive used adrenaline rom ad its great
want to switch to miracle v4
not sure if to make the plunge from stock rom to custom rom
im lookin for an decent enough battery life (adrenaline batter life is awesome btw)
and a good gaming experience( not etremely heavy games...to be specific id like to run angry birds space with no lag, thats as intense it is with me lol)
nothing else really matters lol
any input wud be greatl appreciated
id say go for it!
what i do is if im not at home I underclock my phone via SetCpu 225min 614max normal and 225min 225max on screen off or around those values, brigthness at the minimum, a task killer set to kill apps at screen off and i get decent battery. miraclev4 is one of the best cm based rom imo.
CM ROM's aren't that great for battery life really but at the same time it is not terrible, if battery life is important to you I would recommend you stay with a stock based ROM. If battery is more on the back burner of your concerns, then yes CM ROM's offer better gaming performance.
Right now I am using Bald Eagle (Stock based ROM) found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534804
And it is great for both, I play angry birds a lot and I get less lag using bald eagle over any other stock rom I've used so far, and believe me I've tried them all. On top of that you get the good battery life that you get from stock roms.
Bald Eagle is in the middle, it has good gaming performance, but not at much as a CM based ROM, on the other hand it has good battery life, unlike CM based ROM's
But again it is up to you to figure out which is more important, gaming performance or battery life.
ok i think ill take the leap
one thing, if i flash wit miracle 4 and dont like it can i just simply flash back to adrenaline
would there be a custom rom/stock rom clash or anything?
If u know how to set ur phone right on cm7, u'll get good battery life. Ive using both roms, stock and cm7. I can say its quite similar. There are battery tweaks for cm7. Find them, and choose the right one. Good luck with that

When im going to custom stock,I've always do the hardest way. Call me a freak or noob,I will flash stock firmware via Odin, backup my sd on lappy, format it. Then use cwm to partition my sd again. Just for some precaution. And I never face any prob with link2sd or any app2sd apps.

CyanogenMod 9

I've been reading up a lot about custom ROMs, and more often than not CM9 always gets a mention. I'm tempted to flash it but just wanting to know is it really worth it? Does it have major improvements on battery and performance, and what are the main things that make it so much better than the stock ROM?
Also is it easy to revert back to the stock? I've already got my phone rooted with CF-Root, is that the clockworkmod recovery I've read about, and if so can I just go ahead with making a backup and flashing with CM9?
Any help/info would be appreciated.

Its users choice read what does not work first .
CF root is not Clockwork Recovery but it probably has CWM recovery incorporated .
CWM manager in apps and boot to recovery should show CWM options .

CM9 is experimental and still has several flaws and issues.
I'd not recommend it for everyday usage if you're not a developer or like living on the edge.
Plus, 3G battery life is terrible since CM9 has no Fast Dormancy. Within ~5 hours the battery was always dead on me.
Samsung-based Roms make it more than 24 hours in contrast.
It will of course get better when the ROM is properly fixed and all features integrated. It always does =)

Flash Stock firmware through Odin, then factoryreset the phone in CWM. You're back to stock

So that must be the drain issue everyone is talking about. I use 2G only on T-Mobile and I get awesome battery life haha. Good to know I must be the only one

a lot of the battery issues are due to not resetting battery stats. You fully charge the phone, clear the stats, then charge it again I think? Search there are instructions.
I've got CM9 on an Atrix which isn't even a supported device and it's totally daily usable. The only things I lose which are only b'cause it's an atrix are:
Fingerprint reader
Webtop
video camera
Check out what works and doesn't with CM9 for your phone and decide. I like it a lot, it's TOTALLY stripped though, like no google aps (you can install them as a package)... There are lots of weird intricacies to it but it's cool as hell IMO

At least the build for Atrix is not pre-alpha EXPERIMENTAL =)
It takes some time for the developers to get it right on the S3. I've never said CM9 itself had issues, it's the combination of CM9+ i9300 that needs some serious work.
I have or manage a couple of CM9-flashed devices (from Galaxy S1 over Galaxy S2 to Motorola Xoom) so I know how awesome the Rom is =)
Cheers for all the replys.
Are there any other custom ROMs worth looking at? I've heard CM9 is the most popular but if it's not quite usable daily yet I might give something else a try.
CM9 is currently very usable. I have no problems whatsoever. It has many advantages to stock ROM like no low free memory problem, no launcher redraws and no lags. The only real disadvantage is that the camera app sucks compared to stock.
It must like your phone better.
Kept turning off the modem for no reason, sometimes restart was necessary to connect.
It also has no fd as already described, so many people will notice a huge drain in 3g.
Btw you can easily get rid of memory issues by freezing/removin, all the apps you do not need but which are always running.

I agree 100pct.
I don't even notice it's rom'd till I want to take a video or use webtop :-(
The tablet switching roms work great though. I played with jokers and LOVED it but couldn't get gapps installed for some reason.
