hello,
To improve the Debian project on Archos (www.debian-archos.com)
I wanted to know if there was a simple way to boot directly to SD card?
And therefore does not pass through a "rootfs.img" but by true partitions?

Simple, no. You can partition the SDcard and unpack the img to it, then make a custom initramfs that will tell it use the partitions instead.
Thank you. I will unpack intramfs and see what i can do!

I am not sure if this is the best place to post, if not mods please feel free to move it as needed.
I have version of CM7, Nookie FroYo and NookHoney. I am trying to figure out how to unpack and repack the these images so I can make a custom CM7 that boots from SD Card as I don't want to write to eMMC to try CM7. I know CM7 is still in late Alpha/early Beta but I would love to be able to run in from SD. I understand people wanting to make things run from eMMC but there are those of us who don't want to constantly rebuild our Nooks just because we want to try new things. I have looked online and played around with different ways to try and extract these things and nothing seems to work. I know there has to be a way to get it working or these custom ROMs would not exist. Can someone point me directions for unpacking, modifiy and repacking these items so they can be turned into an SD bootable image? Something that works.
As a side note I would also like to know how I can mount these IMG files under ubuntu as they are multiple partitions and I can't get them to mount.
Thanks
For the CM7 bootable SD, you'll need to create 5 partitions in the following order: boot (fat32), system (ext4), data (ext4), cache (ext4) and sdcard (fat32). Give /boot the boot flag. Use gparted, round to cylinder and 1mb space at the beginning of each partition except boot.
Then you need to edit the uRamdisk (boot), (see nookdevs nookie technical page) to mount the previously created partitions. For instance, change mmcblk0p5 to mmcblk1p2.
Then copy CM system files to /system. Data and cache will stay blank before first boot.
Use loop mount to access your img file. Google It..
You'll also need to change vold.fstab (/system/etc) to mount sdcard on mmcblk1p5.
Use stock mlo and u-boot.bin for /boot.
Regarding partition size, I guess 50mb is enough for boot, 500mb for system, 1 or more gb for data, 400mb for cache and as much as possible for SD..

Yowza. If anyone manages to pull this off, how about posting an IMG for the rest of us?
Awesome! Thanks for all the details. One more details question, about the *.bin files. What format are they in? I've tried opening them to explore them; but I haven't had any luck. The best I could do was a binary/hex editor, but it was still mostly garbage to my untrained eye.
Thanks!
Dave
You can't simply edit .bin files. They're compiled from source.
You'll have to build it yourself it you want to change anything..

That would be the most efficient way... instead of everyone doing the same thing, one person does it, and then the other people contribute something else.
I skimmed through the forums and i cant find a solution (specifically for the X10) to how i can flash a ROM without the use of a MicroSD card. If WP7 wasnt such a pricky OS i wouldnt have this problem but now since the card is integrated with my Focus i wont be able to use it unless i know someone with a Symbian powered Nokia which is never going to happen.
anyways is there a way i can flash a ROM thats in the .zip folder without using a microSD?
No one? theres gotta be a way
all i want is to take the files in the .zip folder and convert it to a flashable file for the PC application because i have no more MicroSD card

I dont think so. Even there are some methods over bluetooth, you need some external storage for flashable data. Because you cant store flashable file on the same filesystem as is intended to modify when flashed. Yes, maybe cache, but you will need to somehow remount it as /mnt/sdcard instead and not sure if it is even possible in xrecovery.
Hi guys, searching on the forum I noticed that all the SD version from CM10 needs one bootloader like cyanoboot and I'm having troubles installing it. Does anybody knows where can I find a SD version of CM10 which doesn't need Cyanoboot and starts directly from SDCard?
thanks
This image includes Cyanoboot, AFAIK, but no need for any separate installing. Download, burn (increase partition if you want to - you probably do), pop in device and go!

thanks so much

Format the SD card on a linux box using the ext4 filesystem. You will be able to use large file sizes, and almost everything Android will be able to read it.

Thank you for your kind response Mike. I've tried ext3 filesystem on sdcard but it does not work out indeed. I just want to make sure it will work on kernel-2.6.35-10 of dom customize kernel and CWMv5 recovery v5 . Do I need to install any extra app on my device for supporting that file system.

Hi everyone, i''m technically new to the forum, but I've been snooping around for a little while now. Just want to say I really appreciate what the people here do for all, thanks.
Without further ado I'll begin with my questions.
I have a NT16 running internal CM10 with recovery flashed to emmc. (Also I have the memory partitioned in 8/8 by BN )
I've also managed to make a CM10.2 bootable SDC
For a number of reasons I want to go back to stock, what version should I choose? Once back in stock i guess I'll have to reroot and flash recovery again?. Running stock is iT possible to repartition the memory to have 12-15 media ? what would be the best way to go around and do this?
My bootableSDC has 32gb capacity, how should allocate the memory? What exactly are the different partitions for?
Thanks for the help

/boot holds the boot-related files and recovery, /system holds ROM system files and Gapps, /data holds apps you download, /sdcard holds apps data and media content.
