Hello all,
I am running my X10mini on miniCM 6 for months, I am happy. 5 hours ago my 2 yo daughter kept playing with my phone for a while.
I see a very annoying problem, the Pointer Location (from dev-tools) appears overlayed on all screens! (see tool) I cannot close this application, the advanced app killer does not as well. Its top bar with "dx dy .." is displayed over the status bar.
The touch traces are displayed over all apps, the performance went down as well.
Using root explorer, I deleted the /system/apps/dev-tools, then gone to the recovery and cleared the cache (+dalvic). rebooted, but the problem is still there.
I don't know what causes the problem. I need to disable/delete whatever runs to draw this annoying debugging tool.
I have been trying for hours, updated to miniCM 6.02 with no luck, I don't want to make factory reset. Please help!
Open dev tools, go to development settings, touch pointer location then select no pointer location.

I can't figure out where does its ghost sit!!

First of all, let me say, you all are awesome! Without you, my tablet would be so plain! I just got it this past week, and after watching videos and reading through your forums, I knew I had to try to root mine.
So, I have a question - and it may seem silly, but I've looked all through my tablet at settings and such, and I cannot find a way to fix this little problem.
I used Clockworks and I loaded Vegan version 7 as my OS. I love the Vegan, but in checking things out and personalizing it, I put some of the main icons on the bottom of my main screen. One of those main icons is the one that you touch to pull up a screen with all your apps on it. Well, somehow or another (I just can't figure out what happened) I managed to do something that caused the icon to malfunction. When you touch the app icon, instead of showing me a screen of all my apps, it shows a see-through blank screen.
I cannot figure out how to fix this so the icon will bring up a screen of my apps again. I figure the icon works as a shortcut to get to the directory of my apps, but I just cannot figure out how to fix it. I don't really know if it's something I did or if it is a glitch in the program.
Any thoughts?

Have you tried changing your launcher to something else? Maybe VT Launcher is fouled?

Thank you, but there is no launcher icon in those settings to uninstall and reinstall. I thought maybe deleting the icon that was on the screen and then reapplying the icon to the desktop would help, but it didn't - I still just get a blank screen with no program apps showing.
I appreciate you responding. I'm still stuck with the problem, if anybody else wants to give it a try.
Do you think maybe I should just reinstall the VEgan program? Will my apps still be there when I do that?

You've probably created a blank 'catalog'.
The App drawer allows you to create catalogs of different apps (so you can organize your app drawer, etc).
After opening your App Drawer, press menu and see if you don't have some options regarding catalogs.
So twice now my icons disappeared on me. The only programs I can access will be the ones listed in the recently open list. I have to reboot to get the icons back.
Anyone else getting this? Also, I don't think I am doing much of anything but switching between apps. Thanks.
Little more info please?

I got this too last night
a lot of times when an app automatically updates, it removes the icon. looks at the icon that disappeared and see if it was automatically updated in the market.
Every icon installed and apps/games, widgets. I mean everything disappears. You can't even swipe left or right to get to your other desktop. The only things you can access are the home (which really doesn't do anything because you are already home), recently opened apps, and the back (which again will not do anything). Settings work too but that's it. To get everything back, you will need to reboot.
Icons also going invisible
Add me to the group of people who lose all their icons. This happens to me several times a day. The icons are still there just invisible. If i touch the right spot I can launch things as normal. I can also change the background if I touch an empty area. But every single icon is gone and the entire background is displayed. Also the app button which I can touch and launch if I pick the right spot simply brings up a blank black background again with no apps/icons.
I do have the video issues on occasion where certain games blink/flash and lock up, but usually don't do this if I restart the tablet and run the game first thing. Also have the random occasional screen tearing especially when using a live background.
I'm looking forward to the February update and hope this fixes the issue. I'd reset the icon cache if I knew how but I'm not sure that's the issue. If anyone has ideas let me know.
Thanks
Possible cause?
Hi guys,
I didn't have this issue after upgrading to 4.0.3, but then sometime last week I did start having the same issue with the stock launcher "crashing" (well, it was still running, but in brain-dead mode where it won't display icons or widgets).
I started un-installing stuff and after about 4 hours of messing around I noticed that the launcher didn't crash when I had disabled "cool tool". (This is a really cool floating CPU graph.) Cool tool _seemed_ to work fine on my prime, and I had it floating over the status/button bar. But apparently it was, after running for a couple hours, causing openGLRenderer to run out of memory which caused the launcher to freak out.
At least that's my take on what was happening. Anyway, I'm using SeePU now, and I haven't had a launcher "crash" in a couple days. Maybe this isn't your problem, but I used "System Info Pro" (or something like that) to view the android log. Might help in troubleshooting? If this IS the root cause, I guess somebody should tell the developer...
Getting this thing loaded with apps & widgets AND staying stable and fast has been a challenge to say the least. But a fun one. I think?!

Same bug here. It happened to me a couple of time. I reported it to Asus Canada yesterday... But no news yet.
It looks like the "foreground" become transparent/invisible. The System bar still works. For me, I can even click on the invisible icons to start the apps.
The only work-around I found is to reboot my device.
I experienced the bug once more this morning. I tought it was related to "force GPU rendering", I had it enabled and since I disabled it, most of my bugs are gone.
But this morning again, the foreground became "transparent" and I was only seeing the background.
BTW, you could rename the thread: "Icons disappearing/transparent desktop".
Also, does version .13 fix this?
Same problem here.
Problem occus now a few times a day. All Icons/Widgets and app drawer icon are invisible but still clickable! Only a restart solves the problem or going to settings->apps->force close for the homescreen-app will solve it for some time.
Any Ideas or a statement from ASUS?

I reported the problem to Asus.
You should do the same, if it's not already done.
I have seen this 3 times in day or so...any one had any update on cause or fix other than reboot
Same here
Add me to the list as well... all icons go transparent ... only see the background ... can tap "invisible" icons and they work ...
I confirm it is still present in WW .15.
Sometime a "force close" of the Launcher is enough, but other time it happens again and again, only a reboot fix it (for a while). Beside this (annoying) bug, I consider my Prime very stable. Gmail sometimes crash, but it seems to be fixed (or less prominent in .15).
Asus Tech. Support suggested me to do a factory reset... Haven't tried it yet. I may also try an alternate Launcher (Trebuchet...) to see if it's only related to the Launcher or the system.
PS: Don't forget to report it to Asus Tech. Support.
I saw this for the first time today on the non-Prime TF101. I upgraded to the FOTA ICS update a couple of weeks ago (for which I've observed the same occasional resets as others) but this is the first time I've had this app problem.
Different desktops can be accessed, but they're all blank. Apps can be run from their invisible icons. The top-right app menu also has invisible apps which can be run.
I have a small (2.5MB 30s) video, if I manage to upload it.
I had a similar thing again since, but this time the icons returned when moving between desktops. I think the common thing I was doing was grouping apps together into single composite icons.
I'm not 100% sure, but since I cleaned up my home screens it does not happen anymore. I removed all my widgets except for gmail and calendar. And all my stuff is on one screen (thanks to folders).
You may try this too to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks. My screens were almost completely full. But I never saw this issue until I started using folders!
I got it the other day for the first time.
I had just downloaded Simplistic Text.
Rebooted, everything was fine--just assumed it had something to do with some file cleanup or something that didn't get done after the download.
Ah, and fyi, I'm running Honeycomb on the Japanese build. (They still haven't given us the damned ICS yet over here.)
All the icons disappearing used to happen to me a couple of times a day, with only a reboot fixing the issue.
Whilst trying to fix a constantly crashing GMail I removed the Beautiful Widgets home screen weather/clock widget and this amazingly fixed the disappearing icons and hasn't happened since. One down only another 101 bugs left to fix!
Hope this helps someone.
Howdy all,
This might be stupid of me, but i will ask anyway...
I have my Razr running ICS with Go Launcher
Everytime i go into the app drawer, and tap "Running", I find all these apps that i haven't even opened. I tap the little broom to close all apps (Which it does) then exit out. A couple of minutes later, even after not opening anything, i go back and there are all these apps running again that i don't use.
My questions are...
1) Why are these apps popping up???
2) Is there a way to stop it from happening again???
I feel that it would be draining my battery having all these apps running in the background, which as you could imagine would be fairly annoying lol
If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance
:good:
Android always runs apps in the background and from what I understand some may be for a feature you do not use but there are required processes for the system to function.
What you can do is go into settings, applications, all, and things you do not use you can uninstall updates and then disable them.
I got rid of a bunch of background apps that way.

or get rom toolbox and use the auto start manager to choose which applications will start in the background during boot. but do this with caution as it can cause you to have a boot loop if you accidentally disable a system required file from being loaded

Do you need to be rooted to use Rom Toolbox???
yes
That's Android for ya lol. You can also root the phone and delete certain apps you don't want. Titanium Back Up is good. If you do this make sure you check the thread of bloat that's OK to remove. Some apps need to be on the phone. And if you do root your phone and flash roms most roms already remove unnecessary apps.

I noticed this early on and it was annoying me a lot. Especially as it was slowing the whole system down, when it was sat at 91% of memory being used. So I've turned off background processes in the developers options in the settings menu. Not sure if thats available unrooted, but I've got that option now. Now it sits at 78%.
I don't have Go Launcher, did use it with GB, but I've got the power meter and the memory status bar.

Trying the "No background processes" option now (It is in developers options as default without rooting the phone) :good:
I am suddenly unable to add widgets to my home screens. I am running the stock ROM. I have several empty screens, so there is plenty of room to add. After selecting the widget from the list, the phone goes to the screen showing all the available screens really small and has the "touch to edit or remove" at the top. If you pick one, nothing gets added. This phone is really getting frustrating. I have done 2 factory resets in the past couple of months to deal with problems with the keyboard not responding (using swiftkey). It takes hours to get everything back the way it was before. I am about ready to bite the bullet and pay full freight for a replacement phone. My upgrade isn't available until November. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cross over to the dark side and try a ROM?

You can back up your data and settings so that at least you can save that time, or make a nandroid depending on why you're doing the factory resets.
MyBackup Pro or Titanium BU will do the trick.
I don't know why you're having issues with widgets. Are you grabbing it and then moving it up to the screen you want it on? Then just drop. Drag and drop. You get the edit and remove at the top if you already have the widget on the screen and long press it. I've never seen the edit and remove at the point where you drag and drop the widget.
I tried the new swiftkey for flow and I didn't like it. If you're using the flow version you might try swype. Some people don't like it but for me it's smooth as butter and swiftkey was driving me crazy. I don't tap though, always swype.
Are you updated to the latest version then? Been taking all the OTAs?
I have thought about trying a new ROM., but the root process seems too complicated for me to wrap my head around. And having the time to sit down to figure it out is another issue. It won't let me drag widgets to the screen like you can app icons. You have to long press a blank spot and work through the menus. I am planning to just do the reset this weekend when I have some time. Thanks for the suggestions.
Turned out my problem was Snowfall Live wallpaper. I have used it for a couple of years with no issues, but that was the culprit. No problems with widgets since I uninstalled it.

Hello
I have Wildfire S with Cyanogenmod 2.6.35.13-CRYPTOMILK-g721bcd9 (version 9.0.0-RC2 ALPHA 6 marvel) based on Android 4.0.4.
I've installed also Int2Ext and two or three days ago Adrenaline.
And it worked just fine.
Until yesterday. Two days ago I started to have a indicator that i have memory full. But when i went into memory settings i have a lot of memory.
But i've uninstalled one game.
And still nothing.
After that i've browsed internet with Opera and a popup showed to ask me if i want to download Porn.apk. Of course i cancelled it.
And today my phone didn't go beyond the loading animation.
So i've uninstalled Andrenaline.
And it started.
But since that i can not touch and move my screen.
On the screen there is a blue circle displayed and when i move my screen it does not move; the circle does.
And i'ts impossible to do anything now on my phone. Because it's hard to use this circle thing.
I've found on the internet you should go to Settings -> Developer Settings -> Touch display and disable it.
So i did it but still i have this circle. I also tried to enable it, restart, disable it, restart and nothing.
Installing Andrenaline didn't help also.
Is this some kind of a virus? Or settings broken?
Is there any way to fix it with command line or some other software and not with wiping whole phone?
Did you ever find a solution to this? The same thing just happened to me!
Me too! a solution?
Solution:
Create a file called "melf-touchscreen.idc" with content "touch.deviceType = touchScreen", add it to "system\usr\idc"
