Fact about these reviews. - HTC EVO 3D

In the past week or so we have seen a few reviews. It seems there are 2 sides to this subject. You either think the reviews are legit or they are bias against this phone for one reason or another. The fact of the matter is the people reviewing this phone are individuals they are expressing their personal opinions about this device. They may work for legit companies but this is a review from an individual. The only 100% truth coming from their mouths is the specs of the phone. The rest is just their personal opinion. So people come on form ur own opinion and don't go by what others say. Get ur hands on it play with it then form an educated decision to whether this phone will fit you. If you plan on not getting this phone let it be because u tried it and figured "hey its not for me" not because engadget said the camera sucks and 3d is a gimmick. Form ur own opinions.

Agreed. Only thing that helps is watching a video where you can see their complaints yourself and decide if they are just being nit picky or there really is something to be worried about. So far everything that I have seen have been articles that you have to take with a grain of salt.

At least use your=ur and you=u....
Great now I added those in my dictionary....

Except in the Evo 3D's case, even HTC's spec sheet is incorrect. Some reviewers have been repeating HTC's specs on the video recording without verifying the capability.

All that needs to be known is that the MSM8660 is capable of encoding and decoding video up to 1080p.

That's fine, but I turn to professional reviewers for information that I can't get myself (easily) with the phone in hand.
I want a review to give me information of battery testing, reception, connectivity, fps on video recording, bleed or blurring on photos, or any number of other quantitative measures that are highly impractical for me to test either in store or in a short amount of time in home after purchasing, particularly in a controlled way. I have neither the time, tools, or (sometimes) technical expertise to execute this kind of testing. That is what I want from reviews -- good, solid, empirical, quantitative data that I can use to supplement my current knowledge.
I already knew, with reasonable certainty, that the screen is sharper than GSG2, but not as vibrant or good in the sun. This has been a given for a long time. I already knew that the 3D display would have a good chance of giving me headaches after prolonged use. I already knew that the spinny carousel was neat looking. I, really, already knew most of what they were going to say in a cursory review. And, with limited testing, I knew that some "reviewers" would have good reception/call quality and some would not. That's the nature of wireless communications in an uncontrolled environment.
I don't want their opinion, I want their data. If the data looks valid, then I'll consider their interpretations.

I prefer to not let one's opinion influence my decision. There has been countless times when I've loved something that others didn't approve of. To each their own.
I agree though, there wasn't much data in the reviews.

I'm not saying I look at reviews for the approval.
If it's well collected data, it is not opinion. That data leads to an informed decision. Anything else, including handling in store is lesser. In store, conditions are often optimized for your "first experience" -- lighting, signal, etc. You can see if something is bad in the store, you cannot necessarily see if something is good.

Guess we shouldn't consider photo or video samples, reports of signal strength from those who have an Evo to compare with? It shouldn't matter that if shoots 720p when it was advertised as 1080p?
When people tell me the Cubs suck, I always say "That's your opinion." Standings don't matter. Right?

One thing I noticed while watching all the reviews was tje great media playback and the spiderman demo is a game that our 4gs couldn't get past the loading screen

Giving us specs and verifiable data is totally different if they did that there would be no discussion on whether these "reviews" are bias or not. Telling us "sensation did better in this or that area" without data to back it up is an opinion. The claims of other phones doing better its what I have a problem with cause that is a personal opinion not data. I also have a problem with the reviewers comparing the phones camera to other phones that are not 3d. If u are gonna compare 2 things u need #1 data and #2 they must be the same type of item. Thats like comparing tablets to laptops. Its the the same this the opinion is useless

no i totally agree, but honestly these companies are sending these blog sites phones to give real reviews, and most of the time that isn't what happens

I dont see what's do hard to believe about the bias in these reviews. Lets say you just dont like 3d technology or you are one of those people that have a hard time viewing it. I personally feel these people have a natural bias against anything 3d and cannot fairly judge something with 3d technology. I also feel some of the reviews we have seen have been a victim of this bias. I feel that way cause I notice an overwhelming concentration on the 3d aspect of the phone and lack of concentration on what they normally review in phones. I feel for an honest review of this phone the 3d switch needs to be left alone other phones dont have this feature yet so there is no way to honestly compare or honestly understand the quality.

It also seems like those reviewers who are willing to play with the phone a bit, adjust view distance and angles, etc. find the 3D to be quite impressive and even comfortable. Those that flip it on and expect 3D like you'd get from modern glasses-type 3D from any angle speak much more negatively.

Evo 3d - Wasted Potential?

Between 2:10 and 2:25.
When I first heard about a glasses free 3d display I was pumped for a real 3D usage experience. Especially when considering the widget animations and now 3D carousel screen transitions in sense 3.0.
In the video above, precisely at 2:22, the HTC rep confirms that not even the new weather animations will have a 3d effect.
I for one am bitterly disappointed, I could care less about filming my girlfriends tits in 3d, or posting pics on Facebook so I can be boring in 3 dimensions to the 7 people worldwide that can actually view 3d content on their monitors.
I also can care less about mobile gaming, and will never spend a penny paying some company for 3d movies... although I might pirate them come to think of it.
So besides recording some 3d porn, I cant see a single use for this 3D screen...
Realistically speaking, what are the odds of a UI update, or a modded version coming to fruition? Will the 3D platform mature anytime soon? Or should I grab the superior (arguably) SGS 2 and revisit 3d in 2 years when content developers are taking it seriously?
If green hornet 3d is what I have to look forward to then they can keep it.
Please add your thoughts/rumors/reports.

They said in March when they revealed it that the UI would not be 3D, don't know why this comes as a shock to you now.
Plenty of Movies/Mobile Games will be more than enough 3D for you to handle. You'll be glad the UI is not in 3D anyway, it gets strenuous on the eyes. Its an effect that you're not supposed to be exposed to all hours of the day.

I was aware. That didn't preclude the possibility of incorporating 3d elements here and there. Furthermore, I'd like to know if anyone has heard anything about this being expanded.
Are there any tools in existence for creating custom content to build into a ROM, how feasible would that be etc.
The 3d effect only works in landscape. So a ui based around portrait use has no chance of working in 3d no matter who takes up the challenge.
Btw, I'd love to be proven wrong. I hoped the whole experience could be 3d.
Personally I don't really care ..the 3d to me is an added bonus ..I'm buying for the powerful specs and since Sprint gave me. Free upgrade I'm all for it..
Who cares whether you like the 3d or not, don't use it. It is an added bonus that you are obviously not paying for as the device is $199 after upgrade.
It would be exactly the same price if they removed the 3d feature so why do people really care! It is nit like HTC skimped somewhere else. For the people who say the 5mp camera, please do your research about mp's before making the stupid comment like many others keep making about it being a downgrade.
The EVO's 8mp camera blows and if they took the same EVO camera and made it 15mp's it would still blow, just larger!
when i first heard about glass-free 3D technology on mobile phones, i couldn't be more excited... waiting for the day i get my hands on an evo3D
and some time later, i heard news about samsung not making 3D phones, saying they don't see potential in making the devices... and then i was growing a bit skeptical...but not stirred (cuz samsung ain't exactly my cup of tea anyways)
today.. i went and tried a LG optimus 3D... and you know what? to my surprise... it's crap, pure marketing gimmick, it's like them 3D stickers, but with motion pictures, i am sorely disappointed in this technology and i imagine the evo3D would have similar affects.... now.... i'm planning to skip everything mobile 3D...
I could care less about the 3D as well. What makes this phone so great, is the phone itself. This is the best phone Sprint has had since the EVO which is why I think most people are excited about the phone. I am looking forward to seeing what Devs can do with this horsepower.
I will be interested to see if 3D apps start coming out over the next year. It looks like HTC is going let Devs produce apps made specifically for Sense and that might include 3D stuff. Right now there is very little too be that excited about in regards to 3D - but there is a lot of potential for some pretty cool stuff.
If this phone didn't have all of the other specs and all it had going for it was 3D then this phone probably goes the way of the Echo (dual-screen phone) but the amazing specs along with 3D is creating a lot of excitement.

Exactly, if HTC had not added the 3d and called this new device the EVO 2, I would bet that it would be exactly the same phone we are getting now minus the 3d. It would be the Sprint version of the Sensation.
I don't understand why people don't get.
Even if you don't like the 3D display, being able to take 3D pictures and video is pretty amazing on a phone that's $199. 3DTVs are still growing in market share, they're not going away. I myself have a pretty nice one, and the EVO 3D is coming out the day before my Florida vacation. Really looking forward to getting some nifty 3D videos.
Besides, they could be like every other manufacturer and come out with the "EVO 2" with just updated specs. The 3D functionality is a really awesome throw-in if you ask me.

I agree with everyone who wants the phone for its specs rather than for the 3D. For those who are surprised the 3D is not as good as theaters then anything I say to you, you wouldn't understand cause your just to damn stupid. (No need to say my grammur is wrong anywhere cause I dont give a **** and I add this cause whenever someone says someones stupid or retarded someone always says...its then not than, who's stupid now) The phone is gonna be sick and it has amazing potential to be even more bad ass than it is. 3D games.....fun. 3D movies......showoff. 3D pictures and videos........can't tell me you wouldn't have some fun with it. But with all the 3D effects gone, the phone is still equal to or greater that Samsung.
To actually address the wasted potential argument, I think we're all on these forums because we individually feel like every phone has potential beyond the stock versions.
As far as wasted is concerned, you can't really say it's wasted if there's no proven way to efficiently better it. I haven't really looked around, but I don't think there are many phones that are using the potential of 3D tech in a better way. Granted, you could say that every 3D device that will hit the market in a similar time frame may be wasting potential, i'm not sure anyone knows of a proven way to better it at this time.
3D everything would be great, especially if the 2D/3D switch could turn it off/on on the whole phone. but i don't think the tech is there yet.
personally, i'll be getting it because it's the best device for me, even without the 3D feature.

It's not about the quality, it's about the pervasiveness of the effect creating an experience vs. a little periphery functionality. I was hoping for 3D Sense 3.0 immersion, even to a slight degree.
Also can you please refrain from cursing out imaginary people in this thread? I'm hoping that some useful news, rumors, development info, and hands-on experiences will be posted here.
So please try to keep it Highbrow. (which 3D porn is)

Gizmodo has hardly anything nice to say about the evo 3d....i don't really care I'll be picking mine up on launch day anyway, but I just thought I would share with everyone else.
I noticed that, it's like everyone wants to complain about the 3d being ****ty while turning a blind eye to the raw power that is Evo 3D! You don't have to use 3d people!

The problem is that this is the first 3d phone. They aren't going to rate it that well. You can read the bias in some of the reviews and tell that they're overdoing it.
No the problem is Gizmodo are one of the biggest group of iPhone fanboys. Though I'm sure the newness of 3d isn't going to instantly wow anyone (until its on an iphone and its called innovation)
Very happy EVO 4G owner, but now after all these reviews, for sure waiting on the Sprint Galaxy S2 coming out end of July / early August, then will decide.
One of my beefs with the EVO-3D, is the gimmicky "3D" feature. I can give two ****s about 3D on my phone, would rather have seen HTC spent more development time in making it a thinner phone, while improving other features. And including the Green Hornet in 3D, and Spider Man 3D, who ****ing cares about that bull****, is that truly a selling point ? To who ?
I think HTC and Sprint dropped the ball a little here, they should have just made the EVO-2, and made it super bad ass specs to destroy the Galaxy S2, and should have tossed that "3D" idea in the trash for now.
Proud owner of my EVO 4G, but crying a little on the inside after reading lots of these reviews today.
Its funny how so many people here at xda have stated they could care less about 3D and would buy the phone without those capabilities while at the same time, the 3D feature is a HUGE focus point for reviewers. I could care less about the 3D, it will be fun to play with I'm sure, but its not a major concern for me in my decision to buy or not buy this phone.

Most [H]ardcore geeks I know, don't want the EVO-3D for the "3D", they want is for being more of the EVO-2, or a next gen EVO, with double the spec's as the original and Sense 3.0
I wish reviewers, would look at the EVO-3D that way, step back away from the "3D" aspects of the phone, and just review based on much improved battery life...the cool updated Sense 3.0...and faster hardware with dual cores, more memory and RAM...and the higher res screen...Those updates are very worthy of a high review in my opinion.
The phone is a beast. 3D is cool I'll be happy to have it. 95% of reviews are b.s. buy what u want not what some guy u don't know says.

I just don't understand what spec isn't up to the highest level. I mean Yeh could use more internal memory but not a big deal with apps2sd. So people who says shouldn't have focused on 3d what spec would u raised the bar on and no saying quad core don't work tablets aren't even there.

3D is not important to me. I mean, I'll probably use it in the first month or so, but then I'll probably forget about it. That being said, I don't think it would be fair for any reviewer to disregard the 3D, as this phone is going to be the "trendsetter" for the niche. Just like the OG Evo was the trendsetter for large screens and kickstands.
I do believe, however, that the 3D feature should not be given as much weight during these reviews.
They did mention that it's FAST. But 3D hurt guy's eyes. Some people are more sensitive to these things than others. What I am after, is a solid phone and new Sense. (Sorry AOSP crowd, I like my pig with a professional makeup on)
I think all the reviews and people wanting the phone need to ask themselves would you buy this phone if there was no 3d?
I know I would buy it just because of the specs and sense update.... This is a definite upgrade from my og evo
The 3d is just icing on the cake....
And the whole experience of the phone isn't 3d.. Only 3d movies videos and pictures will be in 3d... Your normal day to day use of the phone (text, email, etc) isn't going to be in 3d...
And as someone else pointed out... As soon as an "i" whatever comes with 3d it will then be accepted...

$5 bucks says that if the phone did not have the 3D feature, or the 3D feature was not the headlining feature, it would have had better reviews across the board for all websites that examined the phone.
I understand people don't like the idea of 3D being "crammed" down their throats, but it's not like the phone is more expensive than lets say the Sensation. In fact it's cheaper.
Overall, its a huge spec bump (understatement) compared to the original evo.

Exactly, well said! You remove the 3D which will have limited use I don't care who you are. This thing will be insane. I'm a sense fan, so I'm looking forward to 3.0. Like what you like, but you remove the bloated monkey from this phonethis phone and it's going to be a while before another phone comes out that would be as fast or buttery smooth as this phone would be.
* this post was not intended to start the "Oh yeah the Photon.. Blah blah." Or "Well the GSII.. Blah blah blah"... So please lets not start it I can view that crap on any number of also non related threads around here.
The only one thing I don't get is people only concern themselves over the 3D but when it comes to its power they just say its fast. They even go so far as to say it never lags even slightly. But they all hate on the 3D so to me this phone is awesome to still get a 7/10 or 8/10 cause remove the 3D and those are all 9/10 or 10/10. I do want the 3D because I will have fun with it, but It is not the reason I am buying the EVO. Its the community and the specs and 'I' like the design as well. I just hope it doesn't bother my already F'ed up eyes.
I like how they call it a "Lightning Review" as in, "We don't give two ****s about this unless it says "Apple" on the back, so he's what our 5 min with the device looked like"

just got done playing with the sensation at t mobile

Hey I figured after all the negative commentary about the 3vo I would take a drive over to t mo and take a spin on the newly launched sensation..the sibling of the 3d..I for one was impressed..the screen looked great..the camera was very nice and one thing I noticed was it as buttery smooth.. scrolling was great..it loaded sites quickly and I enjoyed the new "thinner" form factor..for those who are wondering I do believe its worth an upgrade..I didn't like my phone as much after playing with it..so i know its a different phone but turn the evos 3d off and you basically have a sensation with more RAM and diff camera..don't let the negative reviews throw u off...I think its funny how reviewers are like "its a relatively powerful phone" what? Name a phone on the us market that's more powerful..guess what the gs2 isn't here yet and I think when it does drop it won't be the holy grail everyone thinks..
Stay strong evo lovers.. / rant
Check the new android central hands-on. He says the Evo 3d is a lot smoother than the sensation. Also he said after using the 3d he went back to use the sensation and was disappointed at the sensation's performance compared to the 3d
That would be great! See I dunno why all the negative reviews...being slammed for an extra feature (3d) shouldn't make reviewers act like its less than an echo

I see these reviews like I see Movie Reviews, they are not the users and I could care less about what they think. I can't count the number of movies I have enjoyed that got bad reviews.
Man all these bad reviewers are trying to protect the beloved iCrap. They won't even acknowledge iCloud and the notification feature in iOS 5 are Android ripoffs, fack them!
I played with the sesenation and it was awasome if the 3d is faster then its going to be crazy

well part of the problem that we will see with reviews of this device are going to be because of the 3d.. you either like 3d or you dont.. almost every negative comment that i have read has just been about the 3d portion.. so like it has been said it will basically be like with movies, just because 1 reviewer doesnt like 3d they are going to rate it like crap..
i personally am not into this device for the 3d, i have been waiting on a dual-core.. the 3d will be fun to play with potentially and dev for eventually..

People keep saying this, but why did the SGS2 get such high reviews if thats the case? Its time for folks to realize that not everything negative that was said about the phone is "hate." The screen and viewing angles definitely looked terrible compared to the GS2 as well as the web browsing and the pics. 3 out of the 5 reviewers complained about the call quality/volume. I mean is all of this a "coincidence?"

Speaking of which, here is a good comparison of the Sensation and the SGS2, a very real world comparison. Warning, its very long.

The only negatives the phone is receiving is those that pertain to the 3D screen which, as most of us know, can be disabled. I think they are bashing it just because its first, and will be judging its performance for myself on the 24th.

Thanks for that link as well
thanks for that link and that review was most excellent. I think this gives us a window into the Evo 3d's abilities and performance. Got mine pre-ordered and ready to go.
God I love my Evo and will hate to see it go but her big sister is sexier....lol
My roommate just got his Sensation yesterday. Nice handset! I don't like the rounded off shape of it though, but overall seems pretty nice. I was a little surprised on the lag it sometimes has just flicking around Sense. 1080p video recording on it is quite nice and the playback of what you recorded is awesome looking. I can't wait for my 3D, and I can't wait for the first opportunity to strip it of Sense as well. Even 3.0 doesn't attract me at all. AOSP all the way.
so the Sensation can record 1080p 2d but the Evo3d can't? yeah I think there will be an update that will let the evo3d record 1080p video

Agreed, it would be silly not to include it at some point lol

I guess all android users are poor now.

I saw this on pulse in an android section. I thought it was ridiculous. shows how ignorant isheep are. I guess $500 for a tablet plus 150 for a dock is cheap. Also there are android phones that cost way more than the iphone.

I saw those articles. lmfao just goes to show how childish alot of IOS users are. they are hating the fact that Android has Instagram now. Android flood of instagram users will overtake apple users in a short period of time. Android has way larger user base. I got it on my Atrix. haven't really tried it out yet. seems like a bunch of b.s. really. so i want to see what the hype is over. I hope its not just some dumb filters as I've had those and more alot longer on android in general. seems like some kind of picture sharing thing mostly between users. overrated IMO.
also funny is how the most popular iPhone model is the free 3gs iPhone offered by at&t. lol. how can we be poor if they using a free phone..lol

I'll not get too worried due to this. Only hipsters use Instagram and think they are "real" photographers. Yeah right.
In fact, no self respecting Android user will and should use Instagram. Camera360 beats it any day, anyway. Instagram is for spoiled brats and hipsters who think android owners live in a ghetto and live on food stamps.

This is horrible. What pisses me off the most about Apple is that they outsource their manufacturing and claim that it is to keep the cost of their product down, yet I believe they have the highest priced devices. Secondly they create a standard for the outrageously priced devices when they could EASILY shave 30 to 40 percent of the price on ALL of their mobile products if not ALL of them products. And, what's the worst part of all is that the mobile market is exponentially growing, meaning the two grand you dropped on your current phone/tablet setup will be obsolete in 3 to 6 months. Rather than really fine tune a product, they continually shell out new devices with "better" specs. Kinda ridiculous the way they produce products, even Android is guilty of this. It's bad for the consumer, but great for the companies. I mean why create a solid product that stays current for at least a year when you can make devices obsolete after three months which in turn will guarantee that at least a greater percentage of consumers will repurchase the newest devices at a quicker pace. Whatever happened to companies providing what is best for the consumer and not what makes the most amount of money in the shorted amount of time!
Oh well, it is what it is. Before you know it there will be an entirely new type of gadget out that replaces the smart phone/tablet all together and then the cycle repeats but with higher prices and shorter device life spans. Actually, to be honest, I am suprised that we aren't forced into purchasing firmware upgrades... Hmm, maybe I shouldn't of said that, I could totally see a CEO reading this post and going ZOMG GREAT IDEA $50 to update your device!
In any event, kudos to Cult of Mac for reporting on this, given that they're describing a large part of their own audience.
Ever jealous of being behind I see.
even if the iPad3 would cost half of the prime i wouldnt buy it.
man i hate the apple ecosystem and its hipster fanboys!
and whats up with the 'professional' photo-editing lol..
buy a real cam for that !
We didn't get Instagram, we got an emulator for the magical phone. Now we can carry all that smug self-importance in our pocket whenever we want to feel rich. 2 stars though because the voice recognition sucked and the photo filters made me feel ironic.

I am not going to read that article...
But I do have to say that when people buy an iPhone, they don't just buy a phone. They buy into a highly proprietary culture that promotes thoughtless spending.
Android? Well just comparing how easy it is to get refunds for purchases on Play vs App Store should give us all a good idea.

LOL! That is funny!
Social media really brings out the stupid in people. We used to think about something before sharing it with the world but now people share it with the world before thinking about it. It is because there always seems to be an audience (the internet) available. This is not the only case. (Incoming Hunger Games Spoiler) A while ago when the Grammys were on there was the whole "I would let Chris Brown beat me any day" tweets. Then when the Hunger Games movie came out there was the whole "I don't feel so bad about Rue anymore after finding out she was black".

lol all their rage right now.
What I get from this is Apple users blindly buy apps and hope they work for what they want it to do (As there is no refund). With Android I'm going to look for the free app if i'm looking for a specific function. If it does it well, then It might entice me to look into the paid version to see what extras you get if you pay for it. There are a lot of crap apps, and you kinda have to test them all to find the best one that works for you. It's annoying when there are no free apps on Apple to test what you want to do, and if the app you bought isn't what you thought it was or has problems, you can't refund. Sucks!
I really hate waking up, reading a thread and finding out Im poor.
I really need to talk to the IRS and get my 30 sum thousand dollars I sent them last year back.. do they not know Im poor?!?
What else can the Apple gods tell me??

Apple has kept a pretty consistent 1 year release schedule. Also why would you expect a company to lower their prices when they are selling their products as fast as they can? They arn't charities.

PhoneArena review out now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_s1oWPfgIZc
wow
Wow... really good review.
8 hours of HEAVY use, full brightness, with 25% battery remaining... I'd say that's pretty encouraging.
Phonearena: "This is an amazing phone. Definitely the best android phone out there and probably the best smart phone right now."
What's with the mixed reviews regarding the camera? Were their expectations too high?

I think more or less, people are starting to expect smart phones to be a point and shoot replacement, and therefor are disappointed when the camera still produces cell phone quality pictures. So yes, expectations are really high. But, I feel that anyone's expectations are totally reasonable in thinking that this camera will likely be the best camera you've had on any cell phone you've owned.

He said "good, solid use" in the written article.
Too bad that's an entirely subjective phrasing. One man's heavy use is another man's light use.
I can't believe these professional reviewers still haven't figure out that they need to give percentage usage info, especially the display percentage and display on time (also, in-call time.)

Yeah? He also says he used HEAVY use. You will hear it if you watch the video to the end.
10:50 min
I see how "solid use" could mean heavy use but how could solid use or heavy mean light use?

How? You just call that use "light" and there you have it. Or you could be streaming HD video continuously for 4 hours, and that would be heavy use compared to what he did.
The point is we don't know what he used and for how long, hence we can't form an educated opinion about how good that battery really is.
I think it is pretty important to note that he was 100% brightness, 8.5 hours of whatever use on WIFI. Not 3G, but WIFI.
I can get 16 hours on my 3D using WIFI with moderate use.
Like anything, wait until real world use.

That's why when it comes to reviews it is really hard to take one person's review over another -- However, if you're a numbers kind of guy, gsmarena.com do their entire reviews strictly with lab testing and numbers (see: Lab Testing ). You really can't deny what they show, the only problem is they haven't done one on the EVO 4g LTE just yet.
Edit: It is coming though - http://blog.gsmarena.com/htc-evo-4g-lte-dropped-by-heres-the-video/

I think you are right about that one.
They probably waiting for the battery to settle voltages so its performance can be measured accurately. However, it still would have been nice if he'd just taken 30 seconds and gave those numbers like he should have...
There's only one thing I would point out in their testing methodology. Their video playback test heavily favors amoled screens over lcds. Maybe they are using very dark test video.
Is it me or does this guy seem to be biased towards the Evo 4G LTE.
HD voice isn't even available as yet and he's saying how great it is, also aren't both parties required to be on hd voice supporting networks and phones to get the benefit?
I'm a big fan of the phone myself but this guy didn't seem objective at all.
Another reason to not put too much stock into reviews. I just like to watch the videos because it's like gadget porn for me. My inner geek won't let me stop watching.

I don't know if he seems biased, maybe lacking in a bit of experience. Overall, phonearena is a trusted site, and undoubtedly EVO 4g LTE is the best Android phone out yet. As for HD Voice, I may be wrong on this, but I am pretty certain that in order to take FULL advantage, yes you will need both phones to have this capability. However, the noise canceling from the caller's side on the EVO 4g LTE still should improve call quality to the listener, just not the other way around.

The expectations aren't unreasonable. Many phones ARE just as good as point and shoots. The samsung Gs2 is an example. The nokia n8 and others are additional examples.
The reason there are mixed reviews on the one x camera is because they are deserved. Given the one x's optics (f/2.0 lens), it should be performing better than it is. But it's not due to overprocessing of images.
Hopefully it's possible to fix this I did a software update, but i'm not holding my breath
