I've read so many different threads about EXT partition but none have the answer I'm looking for.
Are EXT partitions only available for custom roms?
Is it possible to make one on my Ace without installing a custom rom?
I installed Links2SD and It's not really doing much of anything and I still have the same full internal memory issue. I also looked up Rom manager on the market. Can I make a partition with it?
I've been deleting and installing apps all day long and I'm tired of not having enough space. I have an 8GB class 4 micro SD.
Can I get some help please? :/

1.) I am on a stock ROM coupled to a 8GB Class 4 card and i am making use of a ext4 partition. That makes my experience relevant to your interest
2.) Do you know what the ext4 is meant for?
3.) DO NOT USE THE ROM MANAGER. IT WILL BRICK YOUR S5830.
4.) To answer your question, go here http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php, download and burn the iso and boot into Gparted. Use GParted to make an ext 4 partition. BACKUP your entire SD card before doing so as partitioning wipes everything in the card.

u have a higher chance of damaging ur pc hard disk when using gparted livecd. just a single wrong click and all ur data will be gone, or even corrupt the hard disk itself. linux livecd is not something to mess around when u dont know what ur doing. minitool partition wizard is working just fine for me, never had any problem with it.

beg to differ. Gparted comes in a GUI and one has to be careful on selecting the right disk to work with. Other than that, i don't see how one can accidentally partition the HDD containing Windows.

I'll post whatever happens.
Okay, can you guys tell me the steps for this thing? I just opened it and I have no idea what to do or what format to make my SD card
EDIT: I made a 1GB partition but it doesn't have a format or anything. It just says (Unallocated). How can I fix this?
What happens to the crappy internal memory when you choose the data2sd option? Is it still accessible for storing files / movies / pictures etc. Or does the microsd card become the only storage option?
you will be able to access it under /data1/

It doesn't become data1, I made it become InternalSD.
There is a flashable file in post 2 of the androwook thread that will make that folder available from the sdcard.

Thanks... I should learn to keep reading. Using that flash able file worked out well.
And I also learned a lesson about not ejecting the microsd card while the system is running. Curiosity got the best of me.

Well, it still becomes /data1/ when you choose the data2sd option.
i didnt know about that zipfile , sounds good to have it mounted on a better accessible place. maybe include that in the rom itself?

It really doesn't mate. I made the data2sd kernel and I should know what I named it lol
If it really did get renamed to data1 the script I also created in post 2 would not work

You know, that is the only option that I never tested. If that is showing data1 that is a very old one I made and should not have been included in 1.51. Wook must have added it by accident.
The script in post 2 to mount the folder into sdcard will definitely not work for you.
Any reason you're not using the clemsyns one with data2sd? Without that you are missing out on fsync, init.d and other speed improvements.

Yea it used to be like this in the old versions too.
I choose the stock kernel because of stability, have seen weird things happening with older custom kernels on this device, i think mostly due to overclocking and undervolting.
Is clemsyns kernel stable? No SOD, no instant reboots etc?

We all use Clems kernel. I use it now without data2sd but I also used it with data2sd for ages before while testing and I know 1 or 2 of the team members still do and we have never encountered any problems with it at all.
Sorry for doubting you earlier mate, glad you brought it up really so I will know to swap it out on the next release.
Weird how no one else has brought this up sooner but I guess everyone else who is using data2sd is using the clems version.

if you have never used data2sd with clemsyns kernel you will find the clemsyn kernel used with one of the two stock roms is the fastest your prime has ever been. with data2sd it is still slightly better. but not enough to warrant the purchase of an microsd card. In fact I will not even test non stock roms right now because this kernel is only available for stock roms and its way to big a performance hit to use another kernel.
noob question
hi this is my first post ever on xda, so i have some noob questions sorry, ive looked and havent been able to find anything concrete. i installed hairy bean 1.5 with clemsyn elite 1.7 kernel, but id like to try the clemsyn data2sd kernel instead because of the i/o issues, i havea 32gb class 10 micro sd, ive read that its a good idea to partition the majority of the card in etx4 is this true, im not sure how to properly partition for this rom, if someone could give me a recomendation that would be awesome, and from what ive understood so far if i install clemsyn data2sd kernel i would not have issues with accessing the internal storage of prime right?

You can use Gpart (linux) by running live cd or you can download minitool http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html you need a fat32 partiton first then the rest ext4. For the fat32 I suggest using a cluster size of 16k I have tried lower with poor results. Depending on what you plan on using the windows partition for will determine the size. You can go any where from 1 gb and up, just know that when you connect to the sdcard on a windows machine you will only se the fat32 part so if you plan on transfering files make the partition big enough to handle that.
And what is on the EXT4 partition ? System and other folders which is on internal storege??
thx

The only thing on the ext4 partition is the entire contents of /data
So basically the FAT32 partition is for media (music, picts and movies) and the EXT4 for the system to install app and what it needs to work? Is that right?

The fat partition is the External SD space. The ext partition becomes the entire /data folder from android which also includes the Internal SD.

UM lets see maybe because i came from a iphone already. The whole purpose of extra storage is to use it. Im aware you can use it for music and videos. It was a simple question because i havent had a android for years and before you were able to install apps straight to the SD Card.
You can't actually install the apps to the external SD card, but with the previously mentioned Filemount you can move the large data files to the SD card. the 9 gigs you have available will go quite a while with media files on the external SD card.

Yes. Also don't hold your breath on the installing apps to SD card thing.
Install your game, use FolderMount to simlink the folders to the SDcard. it will trick the phone into thinking the files are still on internal memory when they really are on the sdcard. only thing is you need root

not sure what you mean "lose the touchwiz" but no you wont lose anything. you will only gain abilities. there is no getting rid of the touchwiz UI unless you flash a custom AOSP rom which hasnt happened yet

good to hear! i would definitely look into titanium backup. i know its like 5 bucks or whatever but the best app around. it will let u freeze those bloatware apps and help speed the phone up. i would check out each S4 forum (Tmobile, AT&T, sprint, and the general one) and look through those "Apps to have threads"

I won't deny that it works for you but I know for fact it doesn't work for me and many many other people. U can read these forums and Google it and there are issues. For me it creates a dir on my sd card but it's just a mirror of the original dir on the phone. So it actually doesn't save space. Has anyone else got foldermount to work and can verify it's not just mirroring the original dir? I'm using the SanDisk 64gig card from amazon.

Link2sd plus will do that for you. It has an option of placing the application and/or its data on the sd. It's a paid app, but only $2 - well worth it imo.

OK, I should have been clearer. This is more complex than what I first described. In order to use Link2SD plus optimally, you will need to perform a few steps. You can find the reasoning behind them in the Link2SD FAQ (although a bit outdated). Here are the steps you should perform:
1. Backup your SD. This is a means of precaution only.
2. Reformat your SD drive to add a second ext3/ext4 partition (no need to wipe the data or anything like that). Its size should be about 10% of the total SD size. You can do it with MiniTool Partition Wizard. Make sure that the new partition is primary and not logical.
3. Reinstall Link2SD plus in order for it to recognize the new SD layout. May need to reboot here.
4. From Link2SD plus, choose your game. Tick all Link options, especially the link data option.
This will fool the game to think that its data is located on the internal storage, but it's really on the SD. In this case, the 3GB data should now be downloaded to SD.

LOL yeah. Although I'm a big android fan, this specific issue (the whole dealing with external SD that is) is a weak spot which android keeps failing to address throughout its releases. I know where it's coming from (basef on linux) but it's still something that should have gotten a proper creative solution by now.

No problem mate. It's best for you to try all the methods posted here by other people before trying Link2SD plus. If they work, it'll save you much hassle. I've tried to think of a guide for you, and it figured to me that the only way for it to work is if you either get an SD card reader or alternatively another device that allows you to mount the SD in a USB MSC (mass storage class) mode, as AFAIK LG stock devices only allow MTP mode, something that won't allow you to format a partition using your PC.

Do you happen to have CWM installed?

Yes, CWM is Clockwork Mod - Android's recovery program. Reason I asked is that it has a built-in ability to partition your SD, something that'll ease things up.
And don't feel bad about not partitioning theSD - this shouldn't be done in the vast majority of the cases, only in when you wanna use apps like Link2SD or others that need to push Android to the limit...
ok ill look into that today and get back at you also is it possible to sideload an app directly on to your external sd? could that work and let me side step alot of trouble thanks

I guess it's possible, but I don't know how to do it...
Regarding Link2SD plus guide, you'll need one of the following two:
1. CWM on your device
2. A card reader, or another phone that allows you to mount the SD as MSC (like Disk On Key - in windows it'll show as an additional drive)

yeah i dont have a card reader and i dont know anybody that has one neither i wish i would did more research before i made the leap from ios to android i thought android was more accessible open and easier to deal with i assumed that since you had an sd card slot having a ton of internal space wasn't critical like it is on ios because you could buy memory i had no clue how wrong i was and since i got this phone and ive noticed something odd gl to sd seems to be doing what i want but only for on app assassins creed black flags companion app runs fine when i use gl to sd the additional data downloaded on my external sd and when i try to run the app without gl to sd it tries to download the additional files on my internal sd are you familiar with that app and how to get it to work with other apps like gangstar vegas? thanks man for your and everybody eles help
Hi! I've got an i717 16GB, and according to my settings, I only have 2GB of space on the total system. I plug it in, and it says I have 10GB available and 5.8GB used. What's going on? I have CWM 5.5

Still waiting for any expert's tip - android re-partition skill.
I really do want to solve this problem to keep using my current note until I upgrade to new phone.

There are plenty "how tos" and ways to do the expansion situations.
Hope that helps.

OPPS sorry about that dead link.....
This link is working today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHsHiXDgSy4
I put the whole URL this time to copy and paste.
I use the FREE EASEUS Partition Master 9.1.0 Home Edition to partition the sd card. I find it easier to and faster to back up the contents of sd card to computer than partition. and than transfer bkup to sd card on the 1st Primary Fat32 partition.
Takes to long to transfer 4 to 6 GB back from bkup to card from pc to phone IMO.
OR
Here is a step by step .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nllIEBzuPHo I prefer the 4000MB partition for the NU storage.
Be sure to set or make BOTH the partitions "Primary" partitions or they will not work with Link2sd.
I tried Mini tool and Aparted but they might work for others, they didn't work for me.
Link2sd card is the most reliable and easy to do the linking from old tiny internal storage to the NEW enlarged external storage that I have found.
And if that app does not do it for anyone try foldermount https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATWTghTploY
OR
HERE at xda .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39178981 Give a BIG thanks and support to madmack
And get that apk from madmack at bottom first post.
And if you do NOT have ROOT than try. . .

Hope those suggestions help.

So, basically your solution is based on using additional SD card not changing/modifying the phones' EMMC memory.
I think I had tried Link2SD/Folder mount earlier and not all apps supports with this method.
It is still helpful but I think we(other users) still like to change the EMMC side.
But I still want to tried your suggested method to try. Thank you!!!

BTW, how do you use? (Partition Size and link to External SD? or Internal 2nd Partition?)
Just wondering... If you have spare time to share. Please share how you did and how you are using it with which combination sizes. Thank you!
