Hi All,
I've been thinking about this and wanted to run it by everyone here to see if it should be moved forward. Looking at the 3D, I think there is a potential market for a replacement back cover for the phone. Think about; the cover shields the entire back, bottom, and sides of the phone. Since this is the case, why can't some aftermarket companies develop a "better" cover?
Something that has better tactile feel for the buttons (an apparent flaw of the current cover) and provides additional protection to the phone and camera lens, without having to add a bulky case on top of it.
I feel a case is necessary with a phone like this; however if something like this came out I would be all over it. I hate to add bulk to an already giant phone. Wearing a suit and having an Evo w/case in your pocket looks like your carrying a brick or Bible.
I think if we can draw enough attention to this, we can get some third party companies interested in development. Obviously, I think it is a good idea; do you?
^
i do believe that i would buy it!
a replacement back cover wouldn't do anything for the buttons as those are on the frame. or do you mean replacement full body housing? that would be cool but they wouldn't be able to sell a lot of them since that project would be too indepth for the average joe.

Lol looks like somebody's not keeping up to date XD the Evo3D back cover does indeed cover the sides as well...
I think its a great idea!

Just make them different colors... especially Android green... and keep them cheap. Make profits on bulk sales
just a replacement cover with a kickstand would make me happy. im hoplessly attached to the kickstand on my og evo but i keep it naked with no case as i dont like the added bulk. maybe powermat will look into it since they make replacement covers anyhow.
edit: i actually emailed powermat and will update if i hear anything back.
I think a kickstand should totally be doable. I have a contact that is a machinist...maybe I can get a proto done in aluminum and see how that rolls. Now all I need is the damn phone to be delivered !
something rugged ish would be great with an extended batt.

I am hoping there are some people here who know about what brands/sites are good ones or trustworthy.
Ok, picking up my Evo 3D on Friday..... and surprise surprise, the phone isn't even out yet, yet there are a million different places with brands nobody has ever heard of with supposed cases for this phone, some of them even having dimensions smaller than the phone itself despite being listed as for the 3D.... (Yes I know, no need to tell me many manufacturers will take existing stock and claim it works for the new device just to sell it).
So the thing is, I have no idea what cases might be designed specifically for the HTC Evo 3D, or even any respectable sites to buy such cases from.
But I am also sorta over-complicating the issue by not being sure if I should first over a back cover for the phone or not. See, I am not a fan of the way the camerapod sticks out, I was wondering if there were any GOOD cases that add enough bulk to essentially make the cameras level with the rest of the phone, even if this will add thickness.
Something like this, but I don't know if this really is an official HTC product or not, and if there aren't better ones (or if that is a trustworthy site):
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=28040
And this brings me to my main concern. The main case I want to get is a belt-clip holster, not just a simple little clip that attaches the phone to your belt but basically a whole pouch to hold it, something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Horizontal-Leather-Magnetic-Closing/dp/B0051IGCAI
But on top of the problem I already mentioned of there being a million cases just simply calling themselves a HTC Evo 3D case... there is also the issue of how it will fit. Normally, I don't care if a case is a little too big for a phone since it will hold it anyway, but all of my previous phones didn't have sensitive parts like the camera sticking out so much before, if I were to get a case, id want one designed to hold the pushed-out camera in place too.... but that would only work if I decide not to get a case that ads bulk for the purpose of keeping the cameras flush with the back of the phone.... and if I do decide to go with a back-cover to add bulk, will those pouch-cases then even still hold the phone or will it then be too thick?
Sigh... I'm over-complicating things aren't I? So anyway, any ideas? Its a shame those back-covers that increase the size of the phone can't make use of that size, such as storing a slightly higher capacity battery or something.
That first one's badass. I wonder how much coverage you get on the front. I ordered two slide together ones (like the innocase surface, but a clone), and one super-silicone one. I like buying a bunch of different colored cases to shake things up every now and then.

This is the snap together (innocase surface-esque) one. Might be sold out now.
where is the case with the kickstand?
I went yesterday to a sprint store and got me a otterbox commuter case. I love it. They had about 4 different kinds but none with a kickstand. They also had the car dock as well.
TPU case for me. Ordered a few weeks ago from ebay, $4 shipped.

I got the case that Best Buy sells with a kick stand. It's 2-piece, kickstand, soft-touch, protects well. Very streamline. It costs too much ($40.00) but I had some reward points and ended up getting it for free. Love it!
Hmph, just terrific. To complicate matters, that hardshell case I posted isn't even available until July 13 apparently.... and nobody is showing that it looks like from the front...
I guess I should just at the minimum get a belt-clip pouch for now. Does anyone know of any good horizontal ones that were specifically designed for the Evo 3D instead of just general cases that roughly fit a phone of that shape?
This is more of a philosophical question and I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinions on this.
I've always rocked my gadgets without a case. I absolutely hated the thought of adding a stupid ugly case and covering up the sexy curves of my new phone...
But for some reason, I went ahead and ordered a ballistic case for my evo3d. I don't know why i felt like it was a good idea...is this the sign of adulthood? Could it be that I am just lamer than my younger care-free self? Why protect something I'll be replacing in a year or two at most. Tell me XDA, why do you embrace this modern day burqa for your gadget?
I never have used them either. This is my first phone I bought one for. I just bought a cheap 3$ eBay cover. It is great so far. I rooted this weekend hand had to pull the battery a few times. I still haven't put the case back on yet. I found I missed the thiness of the phone. I can't decide wether I am putting it back on yet

It depends on your personal taste and how you handle your phone. If you like the textured back and you're careful with your phone, then I would suggest you don't use a case. However, if you are worried about dropping your phone and don't mind a little extra thickness, then you should use the case.
All in all, it comes down to your personal taste. Try it with a case for a while and without it for a while and see what fits your use best

Exactly what this guy said. I love the textured back and would hate any added thickness. (I've tried using bigger batteries on my OG Evo, hated them) I am also extremely careful with my phone and have insurance in case I accidentally drop and break it. That is why I never use a case.
If you don't care about aesthetics, feels, etc. and aren't too careful with your phone, you should definitely get a case.

Yea I would never get an extended battery. I find that it adds wayyyy too much extra thickness. I personally loved how the 3d felt (textured) in my hands but I don't have insurance and against my better judgement, I bought a case from seidio. It has a very nice soft feel but I miss the textured feel.

Seeing from this, If I were you, I would ditch the case.
Hated cases in the past, wouldn't rock them very long or often, but copped a sweet "White Rubberized Hard Phone Cover for HTC EVO 3D Protector Case" off Amazon for under $2 dollars, and its grip and quality are great. It snaps together too, completely encasing the 3VO, and also adding that extra buffer to protect the camera lenses and glass (feels way better holding too w/out cams protruding.) Won't be sporting a naked phone again

I would but I have a clip that I use come some shorts I have don't have pockets xD go figure...and I also don't want the camera lens to scratch. To me, the tradeoffs aren't unbearable so I'm happy with a case I slip it off from time to time just for kicks.

As nice as this case is I'm a little skeptical about its practicality. For one the wallet/case appears to add a lot of extra bulk to the phone, kinda making it to big to put in your pocket.
Second, it is a case-wallet. Would you be using it as a wallet as well? If you are keep in mind that if you ever lost your phone you would be losing your money, credit cards, ID's, etc along with it. Basically you would be getting screwed in 2 ways if your phone happened to get lost or stolen.
Third, unless you have a Bluetooth headset it seems a little too cumbersome to have a call on. The flap seems like it will get in the way unless you fold it back.
Lastly, the price. $60 for a case is just a lot of dough. I'm not one to cheap out on a case but for this to work for me I would not only need the case but a full body kit such as Zagg, Bodyguardz, Phantomskinz, etc to go along with it.
Don't get me wrong its a beautiful and classy looking case, just not sure if its for me.
I like these cases a lot. I think they may appeal to many people. I have always wanted a case that incorporates a wallet. However, my ideal case would be a big rugged Trident, Ballisitc or Otterbox that allows you to slide in a few credit cards.
I should add that I like the look of the cases. I haven't actually seen them in person.

I agree with pretty much everything you said here. That being said....
I currently use a Credit Card Case for my IPhone 4S and have carried my License, Credit Card, and Debit Card with my phone for the last 8 months. I absolutely love being able to not have to carry around a separate wallet. I haven't lost my phone as of yet, so no worries about losing my credit cards...but I understand how that might be a concern for some. It just simply cuts down on the number of things I have to scramble around the house to find before I can go out. My checklist currently is (Keys, Phone, and unfortunately...cigarettes). Now...would I prefer to have it in a non-flip case format (like what I'm using now)? Sure would. But until someone comes out with one for the Note, this will have to do.
On that note (no pun intended), case manufacturers need to pay attention here. I suppose when a phone is as insanely popular as the Iphone's are, it makes sense to make a wide variety of cases. Android phones don't seem to get the same kind of love. I would buy immediately a thin case that allowed me to slide a couple of cards on the back of the case..but alas...no credit card case android love.
Will this hold the i717 tightly? My flip cover for the N7000 does not fit on my i717.

No phone yet, but this case came in today!
wow! it looks a lot lighter than i expected. Still nice though ^^
How well does money fit in there? I pre-ordered one from ebay as well, and I'm just waiting for it to come in.
I've been using an iPhone wallet for months now and love it. I can't go back to using a standard wallet. I already got my hands on the Anymode wallet case with a swivel stand, but I'm not happy with the little bulk the swivel button adds in the center.
Since I'm a noob I can't post a link yet, but its one of the two tone wallet cases on ebay that have the picture window for the a drivers license. I also find that the swivel piece moves a bit too freely.

Sorry to hear that!!!! When I ordered it said more than 10 left....Guess they had a rush on them.
My Advantage came with a case like this. Even though it offered great protection and the ability to stand the phone up, I found it to be too cumbersome so it never saw the light of day. I got a belt case instead.
I can see why you bought it, impressive...kinda retro-classic...but still tasteful; not overdone. Right out of a Gibson novel. A unique case for a unique device.
Interested how this eye candy will translate into practical daily use. Feel free to update.
No worries on the magnet. The notes amoled should be okay with the magnet, just don't rest it on your laptop at home or worse get near a plasma tv!

So I'm looking at the flip case made by Samsung and noticed the back cover is substantially thicker than the one that comes on the phone. It also looks like you could snip off the flap that covers the screen. I know, kinda defeats the purpose but at very minimum, you'll have better protection on the back....
Anyone actually like this case as is? I find it cumbersome for most situations and only see its value for covering the face while in a pocket. I'm thinking to chop the front off and use it just for the back.
Bring on the OtterBox!
As a side Note, the flip case back is also textured and does provide a grippier feel.

Returning mine
I bought mine at the AT&T store. The back of the case is the best part, it is superior to the provided battery backing supplied with the phone.
I feel like the flip cover can get in the way of certain actions, particularly talking photos. It makes holding the phone feel a little unnatural whether you leave the flip cover open to the side or folded against the back. For those two reasons I've gone back to the standard battery back and will be exchanging it for another case or a refund.

Yep... this.
I like the way the brown one looks ont he white but the front is pretty flimsy and they didn't put too much thought into the overall design. The fact that it replaces the back was a nice thought and helped keep the thickness down opposed to a lot of the journal/folio cases you see on Amazon though.
I'll still probably end up replacing it with one of the aluminum bumpers that looks really nice and offer some more protection.

The edge of the flipcover came apart on me today. it is peeling open. the edges are just heat sealed material around a thin plastic slab. have been using since launch day. i have Best Buy's GSBTP so if i drop it and it breaks, i'll just get another Note - so i am not too worried about the protection factor from drops. i like the idea of the flip cover, however it does get in the way of the camera and can make using the camera awkward.
i think the lines / grooves that show in a zagg shield would bug me...
hopefully i will find something i like...

So now im just nervous anyways please let me know what one appeals to you and why? Thanks. Can't say for sure if I'd get any. Flip design are cool in looks, but fall short in practice. The flip front makes taking pictures a pain in the rear. The first case pictured just looks cheap and bulky. The third is appears to be a snap on. I like what appears to be a finger loop on the back to help prevent dropping it on your face when reading while laying down, but I’m just not a big fan of the snap ons as I have had them wear out. Had these come along a month or two ago, I would have a different opinion, but there are far too many other cases out or being released to consider cases with such drawl backs. These are, after all, merely my opinions and it boils down to what I look at may be irrelevant to you.

I have the yellow and blue Masstige. I like it but I'm getting rid of it because the yellow has discolored already, the material over the snap has started to open, and it takes away from the slim form factor of the phone. I like the all in one idea, but I prefer to feel how slim and light the phone is.
