New to SGS2 - CWM problem? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm new to the SGS2 - I previously had a Motorola Atrix, which was locked down so I couldn't use things like CWM.
I've rooted the SGS2 with the CF kernel, and now when I boot in to CWM it says 'Can't access to /system/csc/XEV/system' uder Applying Multi-CSC
And there's no backup option - does anyone have tips?
Thanks

Which root and CWM are you using and how did you flash .
jje

I used CF-Root with Odin, the CWM it came with is V1.80
Cheers

Try to flash the newer kernel from chainfire (4.0)...there's an newer cwm-version included...should work ;-)

Thanks for the responses.
Dontomate, I used CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4.zip
I found it on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

Do you use the ke7-firmware or a ke7-based-rom? If you do that but the problem is still there I recommend a full wipe and install the rom and kernel again.
Edit: maybe you must only flash the kernel again
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

Before I rooted it I checked the 'about' section and it already had KE7 there, so I used CF's KE7 firmware (I'm assuming this was the right thing to do). I then flashed another KE7 firmware over the top to remove the triangle warning on boot.
Everything's working, aside from this issue with CWM. I can boot in to it, but as outlined above I can't seem to backup
Cheers

Strange...seems you do everything right...but to be sure you should post your problem in the kernel-thread also! There're more people who can help you.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

SuperOneClick Issue! SGS2

Hi,
I own a Samsung Galaxy S2/ GT-I9000
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKDJ
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
[email protected] #2
I wanted to root the phone and i have followed this thread to the letter: [Guide] And then there was ROOT.
So i did everything;
-I flashed the kernel (XWKDD) succesfully.
-Phone reboots.
-Opening SuperOneClick; pressing ROOT. (phone still connected)
...And then it just does nothing.
It hangs @: Waiting for device.
As soon as I try to click something, like minimize window, it stops responding.
My device is in debugging-mode (as required for ODIN, reboot -> Still debug, so that's not the problem).
I'm really out of answers..
I don't know how to get it working..
Remember, i followed everything by the letter..
Until the root-part with superoneclick... It just won't let me...
Anyone got any answers?

Did you install Kies for the USB drivers?
Yes I did. I even tried Samsung PCSuite plus downloading drivers manually!
All is up-to-date.

firstly the thread you mentioned has it in bold red colours that its old and three is a new thread..
your best option.. download your stockfirmware or any other stock firmware ..use odin to flash..
then download the corresponding chainfires kernel and flash using odin.. you will get root plus the yellow triangle.. numerous guides around

I have a yellow triangle already @ Boot..
Does this mean I have root?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I thought the yellow triangle had to do with the fact it starts up in 'safe mode'
-Phone detects other Kernel than stock (or corrupt kernel) and notifies you by that triangle?
Right?

Someone?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
should be rooted if you flashed a rooted kernel, hence the triangle
did much of that today myself to unlock a phone that never had a simlock to begin with, and flashed a new rom, now stuck at getting BLN to work ...
Im pretty sure that GUIDE is very old and outdated , all i did to root mine was flash cf kernel with ODIN from here .
And done you are rooted , why would you need to use superoneclick ? or do some weird steps
easy to understand that he got confused in the jungle of threads w/o a wiki or how to guide....the info is all there it;s just not that organized imho.

Flashing clockworkmod

Has anyone tried flashing clockworkmod using rom manager app? how was it composted to manual flash? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
You cannot compost CWM .
Root and CWM post .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
ClockworkMod
CF-Root includes a custom version of CWM4. I always make custom versions, as the originals often do not take some Samsung specific things into account.
CF-Root/CWM4 is NOT compatible with ROM Manager! Manage/perform your backup/restores from CWM directly or using the CWM Manager application included with CF-Root
I'm sorry I don't know what you're saying. My phone is rooted already I only need to instal clockworkmod to install rom right? Please make it simple.

Make it simple if you root with CMW & Root you get Clockwork Mod thats the method most custom roms use .
Other methods not a clue .

Think jje might be saying keep it simple and use a kernel that has cwm. Chainfires cfroot kernels for instance.
Rom manager...why when you have cwm app already in cfroot.
Edit: like above post said. Cfroot is not compatible with Rom manager.
It's pretty simple.
Flash one of chainfires kernels with Odin. Now you have root and cwm accessible via up+home+power or cwm app.
Download the desired cwm installable package (eg Rom) to your internal sdcard.
Access cwm recovery mode like said above and follow the process EXACTLY as the instructions say in the thread where you downloaded the cwm installable package. Eg Rom
Hope this helps.

Ahh you're making a sense. I thought my tech language was bad do iv can't understand JJ. Anyway thanks guys I'll try the manual way.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
THe thing I learned:
Never use ROM manager when using a ROM based on samsung firmware.
Use ROM manager when using AOSP ROM like CM7.
Here I am again guys, sorry to bother you with my quest to change rom.
OK, so I can't install cwm with Rom manager.
I've tried installing cwm using the cyanogenmod guide, with no success. It gave me this ''ERROR: Failed to access device. Libush error: -12"
At this point, I'm desperate to install any rom. So I tried to unroot then install a sercure kernel back in to update official firmware. Even that doesn't work. I can't install the secure kernel. I eneded up installing the insecure kernel just to get the phone to work. So please lead me to something that easy?
Install a CF-Root kernel via Odin. You get root and CWM all included so you can install ROMs and do whatever.Thats what people have been tryin to tell you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
As that's great I'll try it asap. This is what I want to see simple and direct, you even provide a link.thanks a bunch dude.

That was just too easy and here I was trying every other method. That thread should be pinned to the first page. Thanks everyone.

[Q] Why is it showing yellow triangle

I bought a samsung galaxy s2 today and rooted it with "odin" and "s2 root".
I installed the insecure.tar rooted it and installed original.tar
Then I installed ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4 and Rom Manager from the marketplace, I rebooted into recovery mode and tried out clockworkmod and it worked fine but whenever I reboot my sgs2 it shows me this yellow triangle again.
Did I do something wrong? Is my phone "bricked"?
Your phone is not bricked. It is not bricked if you can boot into download, it certainly isn't bricked if it boots normally. I like to be more helpful with noobs, and would normally explain the triangle, but I'm in a bad mood, so search yourself.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
the yellow triangle just warns you that your ROM is not from sammy.
Just means that you aren't running an official kernel/rom. Nothing to worry about. To get rid of it either flash back to an official rom and kernel using Odin or use a USB jig and an old bootloader.
If you have no jig use cf's method: install the correct cf kernel, then flash the original kernel back, then extract the zImage from your cf kernel put it on your sd card, go into cwm manager and flash the extracted cf zImage as a kernel and your triangle will be gone. There are more detailed instructions on his thread.

Not the best 1st post
Welcome.
It's alway good to search before asking questions. The sgs2 has been discussed on xda for a fair while now so I reckon just about anything you would want to know will already be posted somewhere.
Don't know if you have already found chainfires cfroot thread it's the easiest way to root your phone and all the info you need is in the 1st few posts.

Hi, its incredible how helpful some people are...
Anyways, if your planning on having a custom rom on the GS2 learn to love that yellow triangle. Sadly thats the way samsung devices are design to annoy users of custom roms.

If you are one ICS, ChainFire made an app to remove the triangle and reset the flash counter.

Dont think anyone is trying to be unhelpful. People understand more when they have answered the same question many times or had to read it over and over again.
OP appears to be intelligent, rooted and flashed cm, all without asking so I'm guessing they were just having a moment.
BTW reading what has been written about that new triangle removing app before using it is vital unless you're happy to brick your device if you get it wrong or Samsung change something.
Anyway happy flashing.

Rooting S2

Hi! I attempted to root my S2 via a method I found here whereby I flash an insecure kernel then root using S2 root. I followed the guide to the T and still my phone is only ''partially rooted'' according to rootchecker and no root apps could be granted su access.
I am running ICS 4.0.3, Baseband Version XXLPS.
What should I do next or should I accept defeat and leave this phone unrooted? What could I have done wrong?
Thanks in advance for reading.

flash the latest siyah kernel v3.4.1 either from ur recovery (use siyah .zip file) or thro Odin ( use siyah .tar file) and then see
Thanks Sun!
I have downloaded the Tar file. I assume what I do now is flash it onto my phone and retry S2 Root again?

If you flash Siyah you will be already rooted.
Ah, then perfect. Thank you!

Either I am an uber noob or there is something wrong!
I downloaded the Siyah 3.4.1.tar kernel from gokhanmoral and flashed via odin and the phone sat at the boot screen with the little yellow triangle on it. I left the phone on and running like that for 10minutes.
I flashed my insecure kernel back on from last time (the one I used when trying to root using s2root) and it is fine again.
Anywho I am back to square one! -.-

1) Dwnld the official ICS firmware(4.0.3) and flash thro odin
link Here
2) after that please dwnld the Matching Cf- root kernel and flash thro' ODIN
link Here
ur phone will be rooted properly and should wrk fine
ps- read the OP of both the threads carefully and follow the instructions over there to root ur phone successfully
If you only need proper root, no custom or insecure kernels and no yellow triangle, look at the guide in my signature. Worth the try

help with basic rooting and flashing roms

hello all
i have a gs2 i9100
i rooted it folowing this guide short way (update from recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994544
it installs cwm recovery 4.0.1.5 and supersu.
i tried installing a cm10.1 nightly version for my model,it allways abort with staus 7.
i tried different nightly version,no success.
then i folowed the official cm guide:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9100
i flashed the zimage for cwm recovery via heimdall on linux,it went well then i booted into recovery to check and success.
i didnt want to flash cm at that point (middle of the day) so i rebooted the device and problem:
i could see the samssung boot logo with the yello triangle and then the screen goes black and..nothing.
for now i restored via recovery a backup i made on the older 4.0.1.5 recovery.
i also tried looking for a kernel that matches mine - jhls4 and couldnt find one nor a solution that solved the stsus 7 error.
what could be the problem?
That thread is so old now. More phone details. Firmware you have installed or had installed before you flashed cm? Model of i9100?
Phone model is gt-i9100
Im on stock tw jb 4.1.2
Never installed any other firmware just updated the official with kies.
I rooted it from the stock recovery-installed super user and recovery as update.
The rest is in my first post.
Appriciate your help.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Flash it with philz kernel for root and custom kernel cwm recovery that will let you do anything. Philz is the easy way to root and install cwm to your i9100.
When that's install do the wipes and reboot.
Thanx for your reply
Q: any phils kernel or one that matches mine- jhls2?
2nd Q: can i flash the kenel via recovery ? Or just heimdall?
And if i flash a kernel do i have to flash a rom immedietly or can i still use the stock rom?
Total noob at this.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Flash lss or lsw philz as its just the cwm that's updated in dif versions and yes this will work on your stock 4.1.2 no point in telling you to flash something that won't work on the ROM you have now then if you want to flash custom ROM you can do this from there. Either way is possible with philz . tar for Odin/hem and singed zip for stock recovery:thumbup: reading is the key to flashing well.
Thanx again
I read a lot and got a little confused.
Will do what u suggested.
Hope ill get it right this time.
Cheers.
