I bought a samsung galaxy s2 today and rooted it with "odin" and "s2 root".
I installed the insecure.tar rooted it and installed original.tar
Then I installed ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4 and Rom Manager from the marketplace, I rebooted into recovery mode and tried out clockworkmod and it worked fine but whenever I reboot my sgs2 it shows me this yellow triangle again.
Did I do something wrong? Is my phone "bricked"?
Your phone is not bricked. It is not bricked if you can boot into download, it certainly isn't bricked if it boots normally. I like to be more helpful with noobs, and would normally explain the triangle, but I'm in a bad mood, so search yourself.

the yellow triangle just warns you that your ROM is not from sammy.
Just means that you aren't running an official kernel/rom. Nothing to worry about. To get rid of it either flash back to an official rom and kernel using Odin or use a USB jig and an old bootloader.
If you have no jig use cf's method: install the correct cf kernel, then flash the original kernel back, then extract the zImage from your cf kernel put it on your sd card, go into cwm manager and flash the extracted cf zImage as a kernel and your triangle will be gone. There are more detailed instructions on his thread.

Welcome.
It's alway good to search before asking questions. The sgs2 has been discussed on xda for a fair while now so I reckon just about anything you would want to know will already be posted somewhere.
Don't know if you have already found chainfires cfroot thread it's the easiest way to root your phone and all the info you need is in the 1st few posts.

Hi, its incredible how helpful some people are...
Anyways, if your planning on having a custom rom on the GS2 learn to love that yellow triangle. Sadly thats the way samsung devices are design to annoy users of custom roms.

If you are one ICS, ChainFire made an app to remove the triangle and reset the flash counter.

Dont think anyone is trying to be unhelpful. People understand more when they have answered the same question many times or had to read it over and over again.
OP appears to be intelligent, rooted and flashed cm, all without asking so I'm guessing they were just having a moment.
BTW reading what has been written about that new triangle removing app before using it is vital unless you're happy to brick your device if you get it wrong or Samsung change something.
Anyway happy flashing.

Hi,
I own a Samsung Galaxy S2/ GT-I9000
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKDJ
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
[email protected] #2
I wanted to root the phone and i have followed this thread to the letter: [Guide] And then there was ROOT.
So i did everything;
-I flashed the kernel (XWKDD) succesfully.
-Phone reboots.
-Opening SuperOneClick; pressing ROOT. (phone still connected)
...And then it just does nothing.
It hangs @: Waiting for device.
As soon as I try to click something, like minimize window, it stops responding.
My device is in debugging-mode (as required for ODIN, reboot -> Still debug, so that's not the problem).
I'm really out of answers..
I don't know how to get it working..
Remember, i followed everything by the letter..
Until the root-part with superoneclick... It just won't let me...
Anyone got any answers?

Yes I did. I even tried Samsung PCSuite plus downloading drivers manually!
All is up-to-date.

firstly the thread you mentioned has it in bold red colours that its old and three is a new thread..
your best option.. download your stockfirmware or any other stock firmware ..use odin to flash..
then download the corresponding chainfires kernel and flash using odin.. you will get root plus the yellow triangle.. numerous guides around

I have a yellow triangle already @ Boot..
Does this mean I have root?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I thought the yellow triangle had to do with the fact it starts up in 'safe mode'
-Phone detects other Kernel than stock (or corrupt kernel) and notifies you by that triangle?
Right?

should be rooted if you flashed a rooted kernel, hence the triangle
did much of that today myself to unlock a phone that never had a simlock to begin with, and flashed a new rom, now stuck at getting BLN to work ...
Im pretty sure that GUIDE is very old and outdated , all i did to root mine was flash cf kernel with ODIN from here .
And done you are rooted , why would you need to use superoneclick ? or do some weird steps
easy to understand that he got confused in the jungle of threads w/o a wiki or how to guide....the info is all there it;s just not that organized imho.

Hi everyone.
Ive had my phone rooted for a while and ive been flashing allsorts over the past few months (kernels,roms,mods...)
I had the yellow triangle on boot when I first flashed the CFroot kernel (like everyone does)...
But somewhere along the line id managed to keep my phone rooted and somehow remove the triangle!
No matter what I flashed the triangle was still gone...
Unfortunatly today I had to 'ODIN' flash my stock rom again cuz all my backups were saying 'md5 mismatch' and thus the warning symbol appears when i root my phone again...
Does anyone know how I can root my phone and keep that triangle away? Without using the Triangle away app...
Thanks

Try using triangle away if youre using ICS, search for it. or flash a stock kernel that matches your firmware

Have a look at this thread, post 2 will tell you how to remove the yellow triangle then return CWM to full working order. If you flashed using chainfires CF root this will sort it for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
You will need the stock kernel from this post that fits your phone so make sure you download the correct one

Try re-reading post 3, which is right above yours.
If you care to learn... the triangle is a visual indicator that a kernel that was NOT signed by Samsung is currently flashed to your phone.
So you can root your phone by flashing a CF-root kernel (linked in post 3), then re-flash a stock Samsung signed kernel (also in that post) to remove the triangle, and you will retain root. (That will NOT, however, remove the flash count. But you didn't ask about that...)
if u use a GB Rom u cand remove with ISB JIG,but before install with ODIN an old BOOTLOADER. i.m not sure if USB JIG work on ICS. u can give a try.enjoy.

@match_stick : now only thing is to get an USB JIG, and type on google : i9100 old bootloader, download and flash with odin.first, search on youtube: how to use USB JIG on i9100 . good luck
What you ask is simple and that is what you must have done....
Flash the official kernel back after cfroot, it removes the triangle.
But remember, the counter stays that's why people use jig, triangle away.
Thanks everyone. I think I must have flashed a secure kernel again at some point thats probably why I had No triangle. ...
But i was using Siyah for a while...no triangle.

If you had flashed Siyah with a method OTHER than Odin, then it would not show the triangle.
The triangle (and by extension, the count) only registers non-Samsung signed kernel flashes that are done via Odin. Sorry, I forgot to mention that before.
you can use a usb jig if you have access to it
Its better if u use triangle away....just make sure ur already using ICS rom...

I think I done it by installing a new recovery, and flashing CWM, Busybox etc
With no yellow triangle. Is this method possible on the s3? Or is it possible atall?
Many thanks

Afaik not possible yet, just flash a CF-Root kernel you need with Odin (SU, busybox and CWM), download Triangle Away 1.51 and reset the binary flash counter. This is the easiest way.
How did you root s2 without a pc?
Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
I think this is a great rooting method since it doesn't involve flash kernels making it a very safe method and you don't have to worry about Triangle Away etc
I did try doing exactly the same as this on my S3 but using the s3 version of CWM http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.4-i9300.zip but it fails to load the zip with a signature verification error which is a shame.
Does anyone know why this works on the s2 but not the s3. The s2 doesn't seem to have an issue with signature verification.
Probably because Samsung read through this site too... Can't make it too easy now, can they....
By the way, S3 doesn't have a yellow triangle anymore.
Just the binary counter is increated but it can easily be reset with TriangleAway.
Any clever person been working on this or know of a way?

Hi I am rooted on stock android 4.0.4 and I seem to have the brickbug (checked with gotbrickbug app).
So I want to be safe and flash the new siyah v5.0b2. Can anyone tell me where I get a temporary cwm to flash it and if this is possible? I don't want to use odin and get this annoying yellow triangle again.
Use rachmat3's method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22626294
Siyah 5.0 is still in a development stage so you MIGHT face a few bugs which would scare a guy trying this out the first time around.
BTW, you can knock off the triangle using chainfire's triangle away app.

You can try the methods mentioned in this post.

Yeah, mobile Odin is an option. But I've never used it myself so can't comment. Personal subjective opinion, I prefer using the standard Odin 1.85 and then chainfires triangle away. Simple, quick and painless.

I always Mobile Odin. For flashing ROMS, kernels and basebands. It never failed me. Just make sure that you have the latest and greatest. Some 3.xx version (.10 I think) caused some problems). 3.45 is the latest I think.
If you really want to be safe, go with Siyah 4.1.5 (Latest stable).

I rooted my i777 and have CM10 running on it, overall I am happy, but the boot screen is saying gt-i9100 and has a yellow triangle. Before I take on getting rid of the yellow triangle I want to make sure I didn't load an incorrect root, or that a more appropriate root isn't available - can anyone confirm, or offer a root that will fix the splash to report the correct version?
That means you tripped the flash counter. You can use a jig or triangle away on ics. Incoming flame btw

The triangle isn't really my concern - I really want to fix the gt-i9100 message as it's incorrect (at least I think it is)
The GT-I9100 is the kernel splash screen. If u don't want it to show for the few seconds that it does when u boot up then u have two options...flash a Stock i777 firmware or a Rom based on that. Or if u have the kernel source u can build ur kernel with ur own custom kernel splash.
And an added third option...u need to read some more and get familiar with the basics.

Nope, kernel has nothing to do with the opening splash screen. To the OP it doesn't matter if it's there it won't hinder your flashing in any way. If it really bugs you then use a jig

My apologies to the OP for my initial sarcasm and to the others in this thread, i admit i was wrong in my initial thinking about the gt-i9100 image being the kernel splash. I knew about the flash counter of course. But forgot that it was attached to the gt-i9100 image.
Took my own advice (to read and learn some basics) and went back and read creepyncrawly's thread on the flash counter...specifically this..." The Samsung Galaxy S II contains an internal flash counter which is incremented each time a non-stock binary (kernel/rom) is flashed from a computer using Odin or Heimdall. (Using the new Mobile Odin on your phone does not increment the flash counter.) The purpose of the flash counter is believed to be to allow Samsung and or AT&T technicians to detect if the phone has a voided warranty through flashing non-stock firmware. The first time the flash counter is activated, the phone also displays a warning screen on boot up with a yellow warning triangle containing an exclamation point. The warning screen also contains the i9100 logo. (Evidently, Samsung did not change the warning screen from the International version of the Galaxy S II for the AT&T version.) Some rooting methods require that a non-stock kernel be flashed before rooting can be accomplished. So rooting and flashing custom software can both cause the dreaded yellow triangle, and increment the flash counter." Had read this of course in the past but it had faded in my memory since.
All good now. And OP here is a link to the thread about the flash counter...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18576627
