Hi I am rooted on stock android 4.0.4 and I seem to have the brickbug (checked with gotbrickbug app).
So I want to be safe and flash the new siyah v5.0b2. Can anyone tell me where I get a temporary cwm to flash it and if this is possible? I don't want to use odin and get this annoying yellow triangle again.
Use rachmat3's method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22626294
Siyah 5.0 is still in a development stage so you MIGHT face a few bugs which would scare a guy trying this out the first time around.
BTW, you can knock off the triangle using chainfire's triangle away app.

I tried now but the attached cwm file from this thread was not working for me. Anyway I found a mobile Odin app, can you recommend it?
You can try the methods mentioned in this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105
Be sure to read each one carefully before taking the plunge though.
Yeah, mobile Odin is an option. But I've never used it myself so can't comment. Personal subjective opinion, I prefer using the standard Odin 1.85 and then chainfires triangle away. Simple, quick and painless.

I always Mobile Odin. For flashing ROMS, kernels and basebands. It never failed me. Just make sure that you have the latest and greatest. Some 3.xx version (.10 I think) caused some problems). 3.45 is the latest I think.
If you really want to be safe, go with Siyah 4.1.5 (Latest stable).

I bought a samsung galaxy s2 today and rooted it with "odin" and "s2 root".
I installed the insecure.tar rooted it and installed original.tar
Then I installed ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4 and Rom Manager from the marketplace, I rebooted into recovery mode and tried out clockworkmod and it worked fine but whenever I reboot my sgs2 it shows me this yellow triangle again.
Did I do something wrong? Is my phone "bricked"?
Your phone is not bricked. It is not bricked if you can boot into download, it certainly isn't bricked if it boots normally. I like to be more helpful with noobs, and would normally explain the triangle, but I'm in a bad mood, so search yourself.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
the yellow triangle just warns you that your ROM is not from sammy.
Just means that you aren't running an official kernel/rom. Nothing to worry about. To get rid of it either flash back to an official rom and kernel using Odin or use a USB jig and an old bootloader.
If you have no jig use cf's method: install the correct cf kernel, then flash the original kernel back, then extract the zImage from your cf kernel put it on your sd card, go into cwm manager and flash the extracted cf zImage as a kernel and your triangle will be gone. There are more detailed instructions on his thread.

Welcome.
It's alway good to search before asking questions. The sgs2 has been discussed on xda for a fair while now so I reckon just about anything you would want to know will already be posted somewhere.
Don't know if you have already found chainfires cfroot thread it's the easiest way to root your phone and all the info you need is in the 1st few posts.

Anyways, if your planning on having a custom rom on the GS2 learn to love that yellow triangle. Sadly thats the way samsung devices are design to annoy users of custom roms.

If you are one ICS, ChainFire made an app to remove the triangle and reset the flash counter.

Dont think anyone is trying to be unhelpful. People understand more when they have answered the same question many times or had to read it over and over again.
OP appears to be intelligent, rooted and flashed cm, all without asking so I'm guessing they were just having a moment.
BTW reading what has been written about that new triangle removing app before using it is vital unless you're happy to brick your device if you get it wrong or Samsung change something.
Anyway happy flashing.

No but only a foold does not have a backup of data and most important rule one backup your EFS folder .

If you put the wrong one, it could.
Settings> About Phone> Baseband Version> check the last 3 letters, and I believe yours is LPQ so get CF-Root for LPQ and you should be good. After flashing that with Odin, you should have CWM and root.
Use the efs app to make a backup.

I'm still a little confused on how root my phone.. do I just flash the rooted kernel by chainfire via Odin?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Download the correct file from Chainfire. Unzip it once. Dont unzip it twice. Your looking for the file to end in .tar. Make sure Kies is not running. start Odin as administrater, connect the phone to the pc through USB. ID:COM should show up yellow. Click on PDA. Load the .tar file.
Make sure Re-Partition is NOT TICKED. Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time SHOULD BE TICKED. Press start. DO NOT REMOVE THE USB CABLE till you have a green pass,as this will result in a bricked phone..
How big are my chances to get my phone bricked by using triangleAway??
Hi! I attempted to root my S2 via a method I found here whereby I flash an insecure kernel then root using S2 root. I followed the guide to the T and still my phone is only ''partially rooted'' according to rootchecker and no root apps could be granted su access.
I am running ICS 4.0.3, Baseband Version XXLPS.
What should I do next or should I accept defeat and leave this phone unrooted? What could I have done wrong?
Thanks in advance for reading.

I downloaded the Siyah 3.4.1.tar kernel from gokhanmoral and flashed via odin and the phone sat at the boot screen with the little yellow triangle on it. I left the phone on and running like that for 10minutes.
I flashed my insecure kernel back on from last time (the one I used when trying to root using s2root) and it is fine again.

Hi guys,
Recently I bought a used GSII but it has some problems and I had send it back. Today I bought another used one. Read here on XDA about eMMC Brickbug and this thing scares me, I don't want to brick my phone!
On the first GSII, installed eMMC Brickbug Checker from Play Store and the chip was sane. But this new one I got today has a insane chip it says. Does this mean the hardware is damaged or the kernel has this bug?
Flashing a custom kernel ( for example: Siyah kernel) will it solve this or it will brick my phone? Phone is running stock ICS 4.0.3 and it is not rooted.
Thank you!
If you're on 4.0.3 you have nothing to worry about. Even if its an 'insane chip'. More so if you're on stock and don't intend to mess around with custom kernels, rooting, etc. Its certain 4.0.4 firmwares that have the bug.
If you do wanna root et al, just to be absolutely safe, install a custom kernel like siyah via Odin before flashing custom ROMs or performing a backup, wiping data n all that jazz.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Flashing any custom rom or kernel from dedicated devs like gokhan, codeworkx or dorimanx won't brick your phone with their reputations as elite android experts if u follow detailed instructions carefully as per. Also it will root ur phone automatically..

I rooted flashing a custom kernel and I like how the phone works. So for now I'm leaving it as is. Will wait for Samsung to release official JB for our SII next month
And the yellow triangle is that one you see during when your phone is rebooting. It appears if you have flashed a custom kernel/ROM.

Hi, if you are doing OTA it will be 4.2.2 or 4.2.3 at best, you will loose root, but not files or data.
Some apps may stop working or work differently, nothing to worry about.

And there is a new chainfire's root out there i guess....

Just want to say this isn't correct. Don't know if it's mistyped or something else, but it should be 4.1.2 'at best'.
Last official (thus OTA available) update for S2 will be 4.1.2. Sad as it is, for today's standards it is still acceptable.

The OTA will probably fail.....the OTA package looks for a stock setup, and if you've modified that setup in any way (custom kernel) the OTA won't install.....even if it *didn't* fail, the kernel would be overwritten and you'd lose root.
If it were me, I'd make use of chainfires mobile odin, download a jb firmware from sammobile and update that way......

Yeah....I guess that's 'project butter' or whatever it's called....it's supposed to give an overall smoother performance........
If you are going to stay with stock, my advice would be to 'de bloat' it.....I used Titanium Backup to freeze the bloat first, then delete it after I'd found out that it wasn't needed/critical for the phone to run.......
